What's especially troubling, is that this means we could potentially be waiting until march for the next big exclusive PS4 title. Which is good for our backlogs, but is still a bit worrying.
@belmont @get2sammyb Stop it, you're making me blush!
As far as which version I'll be buying, It has to be Vita. I'm just going to go ahead and assume that they won't release the special edition down here (they rarely do), which means I won't have that temptation to worry about. Really, JRPG's work best on handhelds for me, as for most people. I find it super hard to commit to 40+ hours of couch time just for one game.
@XavandSo I'm with Optus I believe, which could quite frankly be a pretty serious tactical error on my part. I get about 12 mb/s on a really good day. I can't complain, though, because like I said - I'm one of the lucky ones.....
@KALofKRYPTON I live in Brisbane (but you shouldn't hold that against me ) and my internet fluctuates wildly, sometimes within the same day. That said, I'm pretty sure I'll still be getting the better version of the NBN (you should definitely hold that against me). So hopefully that'll stabilise the situation. This is all assuming that we even get the service down here. And, as Sammy said, it's not looking too good at the moment.
@get2sammyb To be perfectly honest, the internet infrastructure in Australia is essentially just a hamster on a spinning wheel. So even if we did get the service, we would probably only be able to play the games at about 3 frames per second. But by golly it would be a consistent 3 frames per second!
So, uh, I guess those of us stationed in Australia get to change the name to PlayStation Never. Unless they're lumping us into that "EU Launch". This is very odd indeed...
@get2sammyb Urgh. That's like $80 Australian. That's too many dollars Sammy, too many. Yet I can't stop myself from re-watching that trailer again and again......
@get2sammyb But Sammy! They've put so much effort into making sure her skin looks perfect! Seriously though, that part of the video make me just a little bit uncomfortable - as does her new face design. It's just a little bit too far into the uncanny valley for me.
The problem I have is that I always forget to charge the damn thing. Like I say, it's mostly because I was so used to the PS3 controller lasting for days at a time - my brain is just so used to not having to worry about charging Sony controllers.
I really hope this doesn't work as advertised. Not because I don't love the idea - I think it's genius! But because if it does work, I'll be able to play Last of Us on Vita. And if that happens, all of my already waning productivity would be gone immediately. The future is scary.
@charlesnarles Fry and Laurie is without a doubt my favourite sketch comedy show of all time. So when I realised it was Stephen Fry narrating in LBP, I almost had a conniption fit of excitement. It's so perfect!
@get2sammyb You're too kind! In all honesty, I've been waiting for some Gravity Rush news just so I could whip those ones out. But yeah, that comment suggests that they haven't even really begun full development yet. Hopefully there isn't too long a wait on this one, because I am already stupidly excited, and I don't know if I can take much more.
The game is looking pretty great. I'm thinking I'll probably pick it up for Vita - JRPG's just feel at home on there. Also, "Ti-die for" and "Yuna you want it" may just be the two best things that have ever happened to me.
@get2sammyb @RawShark I totally agree. I assume we're all talking about the same bit at the end. I don't know about you, but I sat there for a solid 5 minutes trying to find a different way to pass that section. But the game just wouldn't let me push square (teehee). It was so so powerful, and really served to demonstrate the differences between Joel and I. As for Bioshock: Infinite, I'll be the first to admit that it had some intense pacing issues. It's probably just my GOTY because of the soundtrack.
Super solid choice. While Bioshock: Infinite was my personal PS3 GOTY (for silly personal reasons), I'll readily admit that Last of Us was a much better game. The last section of that game is utterly devastating. Man, it's been a pretty solid year for PS3, and gaming in general, this year.
@get2sammyb It is a very bizarre system. I guess there really aren't enough people out here to justify a huge operation. It means that things can get a little primitive sometimes. The other day SCE Australia didn't even bother to email me a press release - They just sent a kangaroo with a couple of scraps on paper in its pouch
I'm honestly so excited for Second Son. Unlike most games, it's looking better and better the more I see of it. I'm a huge fan of games in which it's fun to just run around the world, like Infamous 2 and Gravity Rush.
@get2sammyb For sure. Watch Dogs is looking more and more like a slightly altered Assassin's Creed game every time I see it. That said, I've always been a huge fan of third person shooters being bent around the framework of an RPG. Also, I do love me some post-apocalyptic setting. It'll be interesting to see how this one turns out.
@get2sammyb So changing the name to VGX didn't actually make it a better show? Who'da thunk it? Seriously though, I just tried to watch an archive of the full show. I lasted about 15 minutes. Joel McHale is aggressively awful.
This is exactly the sort of game I love to play on my Vita. I was interested in the PS3 version, but never picked it up - Maybe I'll give it a shot now. Also, I really dig that art style.
@Bliquid I think Sony's pitch for Gaikai streaming should have just been Yoshida sitting on a stool in a blank room saying "Last of Us on your OLED Vita!"
I'm pretty keen for the PS4 version. A console Final Fantasy MMO has always appealed to me, but I always got the impression that the game was a little too ambitious for the PS3. Plus, it'll look gorgeous on PS4.
@Ginkgo Yeah. When I suggested to the man at my local JB Hi Fi that there might be extra stock to sell on launch day he just flat-out laughed at me. It seems that Sony sent Australia about 3 PS4's total.
@get2sammyb I checked with my local retailers, and they all basically said that they were completely sold out, and weren't expecting any more units till either a second shipment (which appears to be the case here), or until after Christmas. As usual, it's been pretty slim pickens out here in the land of oz. At least in my area, that is.
This is genuinely good news for me. I pre-ordered my PS4 months and months ago, but recently found out that I won't actually be getting it till mid December because of shortages. And even then, they couldn't guarantee that it would arrive on time. So to hear an official word that Sony is sending out a tonne more is very heartening.
Announcing pointless bundles 10 hours before the console's launch is just silly, and I think it speaks to the overall way they seem to be treating the Vita. The bundle feels like an afterthought, and it makes me feel like Sony thinks the Vita is an afterthought. Which it obviously isn't. Weird stuff, indeed.
@get2sammyb That's totally fair. I'd call him an acquired taste, but that doesn't really do it justice. I probably should have said: "Also, if you like your comedy pitch black, Trevor is hilarious."
@Ginkgo I must admit that after that crazy trailer I was hoping for the game to be something a little more interesting than this. Maybe it'll end up being super fun. Who knows?
"Don't cross the streams!" - I'm sorry, I had to...
Seriously though, I had a sneaking suspicion something like this might happen. This is, after all, the internet we're talking about. Hopefully the few don't end up ruining it for the many.

@XCWarrior Oh man! Another brilliant suggestion. The best I could come up with was: "I CE what you did there...." which is barely even a pun.

@Cowboysfan-22 Ahhhhhhhh! I can't believe I didn't think of that! Hat's off, kind sir, you've severely out-written me...
