Oxenfree II is excellent, enjoyed it quite a bit like everything Night School does. Playing Dead Cells and Hollow Knight, might get into the Stellar Blade demo at some point too.
@SgtTruth Gotta say this one is much better than the majority of what you will see on Gamepass, especially if you're a story wonk like I am, i think putting it in that bucket is doing it a disservice. Based on what people say about Vampyr, this seems to do a lot more right but keep the well-handled storytelling
I noticed a few of the glitches Liam mentioned but didn't have any audio bugs nor did the map disappear for me. Seems par for the course on PS5, some folks get all the bugs, some get none, but as he said, a Day 1 patch should get rid of most of that
@Resurrected-X460 I need to play that one, I never did give much regard to Don't Nod before this even though I love story in games, will need to try Vampyr too
Great review Liam! I reviewed it for Seasoned Gaming and loved it, one of my favorite stories and combined performances in ages! Really hope this one finds an audience and doesn't get buried by the releases in the next few weeks, it has a small pocket to get its recognition, just don't want it to end up like Immortal of Aveum.
@TrickyDicky99 Ah yes, the days on the Pentium chips. I will never forget my Dad buying me a 4MB RAM upgrade for my PC, $500 to get it. That much money buys you 128GB today... utterly mind-blowing
@ThaBEN This is very faithful to the game though, you never see Bill or Frank again, or Henry and Sam (obviously), so if there was more time with them they'd be making it up instead of adapting the game. I get the desire for more character building but I don't think creating new story that doesn't at least have the game's framework to follow is what you want
Just (finally) started RE2 Remake to get into the holiday spirit, and will probably play Darkwood on PC for the same reason (super spooky game, def try it if you can). Want to also revisit Scathe for a bit after the latest patch seems to have fixed some of the issues I had when I reviewed it for SUPERJUMP. Cheers everyone!
@johncalmc i definitely see that, and I had the same basic issue with the balloon levels, it just seemed more pronounced to me in the air because things felt more sluggish, appropriately, in the water levels.
@nomither6 They will have to deal with it once the farms of actual PS3 systems they are using to stream the games start to fail. Until then, I wouldn't hold my breath. The Cell Processor continues to exact its revenge on the world.
If the gameplay is even just good, that is going to be incredible. So much there, I am a bit worried that they can deliver on the promise, but it already looks so fleshed out. I am beside myself with excitement, it was already going to be a Day 1 purchase for me but now I'm counting the days. Have to figure Thanksgiving release to get that buzz leading up to Christmas.
I think this is fantastic, there's so much history that is completely untouched as far as settings for games, I will play this just because it is a different time period and setup. Looks cool too, bonus.
Digging the skill tree for sure, nice design. Even though it hadn't yet been created in the game's timeline, I'm really hoping for a game map that functions like the Marauder's Map. I could lose hours just watching people walk around the castle.
Love what I saw, the PiP of the game share and the help stuff is really cool, I love that PS Store is now integrated, etc. They seem to already be a long way toward their stated objective of making it as easy as possible for the player to actually play.
Agreed with SSD and load times being the best part about this gen so far. Console manufacturers have been promising to eliminate load times for 15 years, nice to see it finally happen. I played Moonlighter recently and there were some load times after leaving a dungeon that were 3-4 minutes!! I think that was a new dev and non-optimized code for sure, but still, something like that is nuts, can't ever see a load time like that going forward.
@kyethegr8t They don't have to share anything at all, that doesn't mean it wasn't a mistake to go quiet this last week. No company wants you to be surprised at the capabilities of their system/product/car/whatever, they want you to be sold on it from the beginning and in this case to pre-order it so they have your money and the other company does not. There's a reason that no other console launch has gone this way, because marketing and talking about your system sells that system.
PR just isn't something Sony does well, hell until a couple of years ago they had multiple PR branches often working at cross-purposes and mixing messages across the company. They have a history of stepping on game launches with other information releasing on the same day, they just often seem to be fumbling about.
I'd rather they make a great system and screw up the PR, but PR and marketing is the thing we're discussing so it's fair to call out the mistakes.
@Olmaz Some good points here, but I don't see quite the same worry that the UI will be s***. They have seen what the players want and have made, as you said, many of the improvements over the PS4's life. I don't see why they wouldn't just carry over most or all of those improvements to PS5. They have had to re-do some of the UI to take advantage of the new capabilities, but I can't see them binning everything. As far as the Twitter outrage, you're spot on there, if I was a company I would definitely want to keep everything quiet rather than dealing with the mobs hating everything I do or say.
@eddie429 I didn't say they were doing great, I said they were doing better, which isn't a high bar to clear sadly. And they have shown gameplay of Dirt 5 running on the new consoles (not that it looked super great).
It makes no sense that they are keeping this information to themselves. I can't fathom a single benefit to Sony for not talking about it. They clearly think people will buy the system anyway, but they are in a far different competitive situation than they were with the PS4 launch and they just don't seem to be able to grasp it. The pandemic is no longer an excuse, and while I am very confident that the product will be great, Sony needs to be talking to the people that don't have that same confidence in order to convince them that PS5 is where they want to be. Xbox isn't doing a great job communicating the details, but they are certainly doing better than Sony.
25 hours in on Hollow Knight, hoping to finish it this coming week and then jumping into God of War, would like to get that and Dishonored 2 finished before PS5 comes out.
I don't think Sony owes a free remaster for this game, it will be over two years old when PS5 launches. I understand that some games that are even older than this are getting free upgrades, but a full remaster with all Sony and Insomniac is packing in (reportedly) shouldn't be expected to be free.
I'll end up stacking my PS3 on top of my PS4, then still have room for the PS5 next to my NES and SNES Classics! Have to imagine my PS4 will get stowed once I know all my games will work on PS5 though.
@Rob_230 lol good call, the ones who don't create Ron or Hermione is your answer. I wonder if that's why they went that route, like NCAA Football, they knew people would want to at least name their characters after their movie favorites.
I am just hoping to get one of the 11 million units, I don't care what the box looks like lol. But I loooove the black box, just make the console black too and I'll be happy.
This will be great value to some, a yawner to others who have already played them. It's a great step in the right direction for Sony to make though, hope it continues and grows
The further below $400 they go, the stronger their case of 'it's almost the same price as Series S for a much better machine" becomes. Now if we can get them to bundle PS Now and PS Plus together into one package.
Really wish they would have stuck with, or at least added, the canine companion for Ellie. I know it would have been a huge pain and not necessarily added anything, and the dogs made the combat feel more frantic, but I really wanted to walk around the apocalypse with a doggo friend.
Doubt this impacts Forbidden West much, like Sammy says it would reason that the story is pretty much done. Talent moves on all the time, hard to argue with someone wanting to be on the ground floor of a new studio with AAA dreams, especially in a city like Barcelona. Good luck to him and whoever takes over for him at Guerilla!
@AdamNovice I have to think Microsoft understands their mistake with the last event, and they've said as much, so I expect we will see something pretty impressive on the 23rd. Whether it matches what Sony has or not is yet to be seen, but based on Phil Spencer's interviews of late, I don't think they feel any pressure of a make or break situation.
This generation could see two winners really, as they are both going in somewhat opposite directions. I truly think Microsoft could sell half the consoles that Sony does and be quite happy if they have millions of people signed up for Gamepass and playing their games on PC or eventually through XCloud.
Playing Little Nightmares to prep for an article, so good! Never played the DLC so that is a treat as well. Will play Subnautica and Outer Wilds at some point too

@Sequel oh yeah, loved it, actually the last game I reviewed, over on SUPERJUMP, before reviewing this one, I'm on a Don't Nod roll!
Re: Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden (PS5) - Storytelling Great Has Gameplay to Match
@Resurrected-X460 Nice, just threw it on my Steam Wishlist for the next time it goes on sale, appreciate the recommendation
Re: Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden (PS5) - Storytelling Great Has Gameplay to Match
@Fyz306903 Not at all, I took the "good" path, so to speak, and had no problem with combat

Re: Games 'Big and Small' and 'from All Over the World' at PS Showcase
Probably get a preview of the next Destiny season too, you know Sony wants to wave it's Bungie flag around a bit

@jimbouk good call I forgot all about Cory's new game, this would be a great place for it

I reviewed the game with a code as well, I actually didn't mind the water levels, the Larry the Balloon levels were crap though

Slow clap

Just unbelievable that they could be this clueless and this inept.
I mean, I believe it, but its still unbelievable.
