I've been playing games and owning systems since the Atari 2600 and the Switch is easily my least favorite system. It's just so bland and boring and the exclusives seem like stripped down and lazy versions of games Nintendo did better 20 years ago. I honestly can't understand the love for the system, but to each their own.
@Th3solution Movies and Books are artistic statements as are videogames. Like film they have a Director who tries to achieve a vision. Respect the vision and realize that every experience is not for everyone.
I hate this debate. Should authors offer an easier version of their books which avoid using difficult vocabulary or complex sentence structure? Should Jazz musicians stop using chords that go beyond a triad? Should Hollywood release multiple versions of a movie for people that Schindler's List to have a happy ending? Should Korean restaurants change 1,000 year old recipes for people that don't wantbspicy food?
Every experience doesn't need to be for everyone. I own all the Souls games and have only beaten one and I'm okay with that. It is okay to not finish a game and it is okay for a game designer to make the game they want and not cater to the whims of everyone on the Internet.
@get2sammyb Except @Porco is right. The film will have to clear around $250 million to break even and this opening weekend isn't anywhere near where they would need to be to achieve that. Most movies drop by 50% in the second week and even more if there is negative word of mouth. The original $30 million was based around the terrible reviews and breaking that low number isn't the sign of a hit even though Sony PR will probably say otherwise.
Think of it this way. If I expect my child to fail a Calculus test and they get a D, should I start filling out applications for MIT?
Also, Sonic banked $70 million on the same weekend when it released. Perspective.
@get2sammyb I just installed Death Stranding and it keeps trying to install the PS4 version. Sony is approaching Nintendo levels of technological incompetence.
My least favorite console of all time and I've had just about everything since Pong. I play it less than I played the Vita which was just a dust catcher. Usually love Nintendo consoles and games, but the Switch has been low energy, bland, and generic. I am well aware that this is a minority of a minority position.
I watched the fan made Uncharted on Youtube again. 14 minutes and a much better Uncharted than this will ever be, Helicopters lifting pirate ships prove that the scriptwriters have no respect for their audience.
Obviously staged. The fact that people couldn't figure that out within two seconds explains why we're still fighting and losing the battle against Covid. Too many people don't have the ability to see through a lie.
@iamtylerdurden1 You're spending an awful lot of time defending Godfall to the point you're beginning to look like a shill. Also, if you are trying to convince people perhaps you shouldn't refer to their unhappiness at getting half a game as "little girls crying." Also stop using words such as idiocy, embarrassing, sickening, and mob mentality. You're not helping, you're just coming across as a knob.
Also, insulting people by using the word "girl" as a pejorative says a bunch about your lack of respect for women.
Godfall is just a game and you have way too much of your self-esteem wrapped up in it. Go out and get some air.
@naruball I think @Stocksy is absolutely right. Sister site Nintendolife already gave a review (a 4). These aren't new games and don't require the reviewer to play the entire thing before comment. All they need to do is spend a few hours with each game and comment on the updated package. The fact that Pushsquare is refusing to review it now really feels like a thumb on the scale and they've done it before. Review the game as launched and revisit later if it is significantly improved. Film critics don't wait for a reedit or director's cut before reviewing a film. Rockstar felt this was good enough to ship so it should be good enough to review.
@hypnotoad I'll agree but none of the companies are doing this all that well. Microsoft seems to be doing it best, but their subscription model is too expensive. Nintendo is an actual punchline to a bad joke - pay to play 30 year old games. Now pay extra to play 25 year old games. Sony, at least, gives decent content on occasion, so I would say they're better than the other two when you do a cost benefit analysis. Still, PC owners get all the best deals, so the only "real" alternative is to join the master race.
@clvr Wow, I'm always amazed at people that are willing to defend multi-billion dollar corporations. Do I mean the individual programmers and designers that are overworked and underpaid to the point that they can't afford to eat in the employee cafeteria? No, I'm talking about the decision makers who decided to slap microtransactions into a product or insist that designers destroy their vision to get it to fit into whatever trendy package that the higher ups think will earn them a bigger bonus. I'm talking about the decision makers who chase trends and recoil from ingenuity and creativity. Intellectual laziness. The Avengers game is a perfect example. A lot of time and effort went into creating one of the cyclical, abysmally boring games released in the last year.
@clvr My head almost exploded when you mentioned Splatoon 2 and defended developers as not being lazy in the same post. So how long did it take Nintendo to take care of all the hacking and cheating on that game? Last heard they only banned the guy that hacked the game to point out the hacking. Did Nintendo finally add voice chat into the game or did they just use their lazy phone app work around?
You can't claim that developers aren't lazy and then cite the laziest developer as an example.
@LiamCroft I certainly hope you are being sarcastic with "developers are lazy" comment. My sarcasm detector is a few cups of coffee shy of functionality, so I am assuming you are being ironic when you suggest that "developers are lazy" is never a legitimate criticism.
@Ralizah Except you don't even get fair performance from the Switch. It's a 30fps machine on occasion with frequent drops into the teens in some of its biggest titles.
Will the bots actually listen to orders and follow directions instead of running from point to point taking a new location while losing the one they just left? If yes, then I would rather play with bots than people.
Still not seeing why everyone liked the Nintendo showing. They're continuing to strip mine their past. Re-releasing ancient games that weren't that great to begin with. They even dug up the rotted corpse of a cancelled game because they have absolutely nothing new to show.
@nessisonett Honest question. How did Nintendo kill it? They have a metroid game which they uncancelleded which looks underwhelming and... what exactly? A Zelda game that isn't coming out for another year if we're lucky?
Sega is getting just as bad as Nintendo. They have an entire history of games to pull from, but just keep releasing the same tired titles from the same ancient systems.
@Jacko11 I own the game and I'm not sure it is worth $70. What I do know is that the industry is enjoying the highest profits in their history and don't need to increase their profits. They are doing it because gaming media and gamers don't pay attention to economic data and trusted them when they cried poverty and claimed they needed to raise prices.
@Xenomorph_79 I was of the same attitude about Returnal $70 for this sort of game just doesn't feel right. I was determined not to purchase it until after a discount, but I had some extra cash lying around and bought it on a whim. Is it worth $70? I think Sony is taking advantage of the lack of PS5 content and overcharging for this. That said, I am enjoying it quite a bit and I usually hate these types of games.
@KippDynamite Hmmm...the article I'm reading says he is a reporter from Venturebeat (a site that covers emergent technologies) who has a good relationship with Microsoft and a reputation for accurately predicting Microsoft announcements before they happen.
The point is that the companies aren't hurting and they don't need to be raising game prices. The credulous games media has just been repeating their talking points and now gamers believe that the prices need to rise because... reasons.
@themightyant The problem is that the price increase isn't based on necessity, but greed. The industry is more profitable than it has ever been, yet they are raising the price even though the already are making money hand over fist with DLC and microtransactions.
@somnambulance Nintendo is beating them both? With what? Worst versions of multIplates? Ridiculous online? Year long dry spells? Over reliance on Mario? Framerate issues on every game? Gimped hardware that guarantees none of the newest games will reach the system.
I know people love the Switch for some reason or another, but it's my biggest gaming regret and I even bought a PSPGo.
@Ralizah That quote gets thrown around an awful lot while ignoring the context of the quote. It was true when Miyamoto said it because games were released on cartridge and the the game that shipped was the game you got. Now developers can develop a patch and fix their game.
@Grindagger I'm not pushing any agenda and you have no idea what you are talking about. But please, feel free to keep stringing words together to pretend you know something about a topic you are completely ignorant of.
@Jimmer-jammer The gaming industry is a cess pit of evil executives abusing their workers and customers to further enrich the already rich executives that do nothing other than yell at their employees, sexually harass them, not pay them enough to eat in the company cafeteria, and fire them at a moment's notice so they can add a few pennies to their stocks.
