Praying to god we don’t get any random celebrities. Why has Geoff invited people like Zack Snyder, Nicholas Cage, and The Rock to these announcement events. Like I can kinda get TGA, but not SGF or Gamescom
Unironically really happy with this lineup. Yeah the overall value of these games aren’t the greatest, but I’ve been meaning to play Streets of Rage 4 and Cosmic Shake for a long while. It’s one of the few months this year I’m gonna download and care about more than one game, and that’s why its a success for me.
The majority of that showcase was games trying to be Overwatch, games trying to be Sekiro, or old games. Bless Astro Bot for carrying the PS5 this year.
@Shad361 Do you think Mr. John McGee who plays only a couple games will leave something like Fortnite or CoD or Overwatch to play Concord, especially when it isn’t free to play? They’re gonna need to knock it out of the park ten fold and back if they want even a bit of hope of forcing casuals off of games like Fortnite.
Idk man stuff like Fairgame$ and now this just feels so far removed from what Sony fans want. The writing style is so weird. You can’t really appeal to PS fans with these games cuz they normally like grandiose single player games or unique smaller titles like the older days. Ideally something like Helldivers would happen where they attract a new fanbase, but will people really play another hero shooter?
I don’t mind Soulsborne games but I kinda hate how they’ve largely replaced character action games. Every game is now trying to be Sekiro. Hopefully this game isn’t just a series of Sekiro bosses.
Astro Bot is peak but yeah that was pretty bad. I know people are saying “it’s just a SoP, what did you expect.” But not only has there been a ton of great SoPs (June 2022 and Sep 2022 especially), but you can’t ignore the context of the PS5 exclusive lineup being dire and first party output being incredibly dark.
What I want: Ghost of Tsushima 2, NieR, some new first party smaller game like Sly Cooper or Astro Bot, Playstation port of Killer Instinct, Plucky Squire release date
What I expect: Lego Horizon, Concord, Astro Bot, KH4, tease for a PS5 pro
Unrelated (kinda), but I feel like it’s time for a new Ninja Gaiden game. Everyone, including Team Ninja, have largely just been making Soulslikes and adopting Souls or Sekiro style of combat. We need more character action games like Ninja Gaiden. We have DMC which hasn’t had an entry in 5 years, Bayonetta which has a rocky future, and Hi-Fi Rush which just had its studio shut down.
I do think them having essentially a monopoly on anime in the west is incredibly concerning. Even tho people had issues with both Crunchyroll and Funimation, at least them being two separate options gave some semblance of competition. Now Sony has no formal competition.
This summer is gonna be a backlog year, but as soon as this comes out im buying day 1. I know Sega games go on sale relatively fast, but I want to support this team and, if it reviews well, what I’ve seen looks more than worthy of $70.
Ghost of Tsushima 2. They could announce they’re cancelling every game in existence and are going to wage a war with Nintendo and I would still be happy if they announce Ghost of Tsushima 2. It’s been 4 years since it launched, that feels appropriate to start hearing info on the sequel, especially considering Insomniac gave Spider-Man 2 info 3 years after the first one came out and that was with Ratchet and Clank and Miles Morales. With the steam port becoming Sony’s second biggest PC release, it’s perfect timing.
You still gotta imagine how this game is gonna sell. The day before it comes out it’s the 15th best selling game on Steam. The original was a PS console exclusive for a decent period of time so there’s definitely a sizeable people who were fans of the original who can’t play this one. It’ll probably get a lot of players on Gamepass but I can’t see how this would make its money back. Maybe the budget wasn’t that high but it’s been in development since at least 2019.
Very weird thing to still stick on but im still so mad this got nominated for indie GOTY. The game or devs didnt do anything wrong but a game from a billion dollar corporation thats collaborating with one of the biggest franchises ever ain’t indie.
I mean Hi-Fi Rush was literally the best exclusive (former exclusive anyways) had since the 360. It should’ve been the #1 rated Xbox game on Steam regardless, maybe tied with Psychonauts 2 (also I swear if they go after Double Fine next it’ll be more over than it was before)
I think their current system is great. Singleplayer games on PC about 2-3 years later, and live service games also on PC day one. I care less about the value of my PS5 and the value of the PlayStation brand compared to good experiences, so if these PC ports help increase revenue for better sequels then I can’t complain.
I mean this with the least amount of hyperbole possible, I feel like we’re about to enter the lowest point for Xbox if we’re not already there. This is 2013 Xbox levels of bad. Developers don’t like them after their mass layoffs and butchering of talent, general consumers just don’t really care for them, Xbox fans are mad at them for getting rid of the promise of exclusives as well as shutting down studios that they spent billions on, gaming media don’t like them because of how corporate and contradicting their language is, the government doesn’t like them because of their insane consolidation effort. All the while Xbox sales are incredibly poor and the Gamepass model is at its tipping point. The Xbox we all wanted and hoped for is long dead.
@Swirly Microsoft own all of Tango’s IPs. They hypothetically could’ve down what Sega did with Bayonetta where they have Nintendo or Sony publish a Hi-Fi Rush 2 on their own, but that would be really counterintuitive.
In the podcast where Phil Spencer revealed that 4 games were going multiplatform, one of the reasons he explicitly stated was that by expanding consoles, the fanbase would expand to where they could capitalize on it by making sequels and follow ups. A Hi-Fi Rush 2 would have matched their explicitly stated plans. Genuinely baffled about how they shifted from this to the nuclear option of closing them down in just 4 months. Theres almost no value in what an Xbox executive says anymore.
Remedy had a number of projects in the work, including another multiplayer. Adding another multiplayer game in an unproven IP would’ve been a lot of effort for a lot more risk. Makes sense.
Are you kidding me. I’m actually so mad. Hi-Fi rush is my favorite Xbox game and they just gutted the award winning studio with no remorse. Absolutely shameful.
@dark_knightmare2 Ehhhh. I think the big thing that pushes Hades beyond Returnal for me is build variety and writing. I think Returnal has better moment to moment gameplay, but Hades has way more diversity in terms of how runs can play out. Also the writing is way more appealing and better imo.
It’s so hard waiting until early access is finished. Hades is one of my favorite games ever and im genuinely so shocked that they seemingly topped it, like I don’t think I have a single issue with the first game except that some of the enemies in Elysium are more annoying than challenging. 2025 GOTY inbound.
This is why everyone being vocal ultimately matters. Yes, it was annoying with everyone doing a mass 180 on this game for something that’s so common for console gamers. But this shows that Sony is a company that is willing to roll things back if the line gets too far pushed. I know the account creation isn’t a big deal but the delisting in a ton of countries is. Let’s just hope everyone reverts their steam review scores now.
At this point I’ve just accepted that not even Microsoft knows what they’re doing with their multiplatform plans. It doesn’t really affect me tho, there aren’t really any Xbox games I wanna play after Hi-Fi Rush besides some legacy stuff like older Halo titles and Rare Replay.
Unironically I wouldn’t be surprised if the next BG struggles to find a dev. Not because it’s not a good opportunity but because of just how much work and scope this game is. Topping BG3 is a Herculean task and one of the biggest reasons Larian were able to do it in the first place was because they weren’t under a publisher’s thumb.
@Vivisapprentice That’s literally what at least Roll7 was. A smaller dev team that made cheaper but still high quality games. It’s just corporate greed from the Take Two higher ups
I would like some kind of just simple touch up remaster
I do not want a full remake. It would straight up be a waste to remake a game like that when the tech between the PS4 and PS5 isn’t that big and the visuals for Horizon still largely hold up. It would just be creative bankruptcy on Sony’s part if that’s what they remake instead of dormant but popular IP.
Crazy how this early access stuff has become normalized. “Pay an extra 30 or so dollars so you can play the game when it’s ready, and everyone else who can’t afford it are just locked off ”
Ratings boards have always had weird biases. Like when lootboxes were big in like the late 2010s I remember the ESRB made a statement trying to justify it in E rated sports games saying it was far from gambling despite advertisements using a lot of gambling imagery and techniques. I don’t think if the dismemberment in Stellar Blade is near Dead Space, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some kind of bias.
Absolutely stunning. I was telling myself that after P3R, I was gonna try to keep away from buying $70 games (I haven’t even bought Rebirth yet and I loved Remake). But this just looks a class above every recent Atlus title since P5. Nothing was as big of a flex as when the original trailer revealed that the team was made up of people who worked on Nocturne, Persona 3-5, NieR, and Evangelion of all things.
Obviously I haven’t played it and i respect your opinion, but even what was stated in the review a 5 seems too low. Good combat, narrative, visuals, and sound compared to some frustrating design elements doesn’t seem like a 5/10. But again im just basing it off of what you said I obviously haven’t played it myself so it could be a 5/10.
Really big improvement. Sure some parts might appear less detail but the shot from the original reveal made James look honestly a bit whiny(? I think that’s how I would describe it). The newer shot looks a lot closer to the quiet, broken despair that the original game had for that shot. Still think the art direction in the original looks the best but I would much rather take this than what they should a year or two ago.
Baldur’s Gate still being so high up is impressive. I thought it would’ve hit a ceiling by now after all the GOTY hype has largely subsided, but no it’s still up there.
I’m all for supporting new IP, but they positioned Immortals of Aveum in one of the worst ways possible. $70, huge budget, in one of the busiest months of the year (BG3, AC6, Sea of Stars)
@Intr1n5ic I mean at the same time Cyberpunk’s “comeback” shouldn’t be encouraged in this industry. We’re now awarding games for doing the fix it later stuff.
Makes sense. Remake was always going to sell more for being the first part in a multipart series.
Rebirth also launched in a pretty crowded JRPG window, at least much more crowded than Remake did. And even tho this becoming less of a factor, it’s still the 8th year of the PS4 vs the 4th year of the PS5.
I haven’t played many from this year, I kinda want this year and next to be a backlog year. However from the games I have played, it’s definitely Hi-Fi Rush. It’s just a pure, unadulterated video game in the perfect sense. We need more games like it where big studios make smaller projects focused more on core fun than a huge experience.
Deserved tbh. If you sell a game for $70 that has microtransactions and has had an awful first season and isn’t even technically a game people own due to being always online, I think it’s within their right to try to get all their money’s worth by any means necessary.
