Re: Soapbox: The Week After PS5's Showcase, Sony Told Us Nothing About Its Next-Gen Console

Eadgar

@S1ayeR74 Thanks for the response.

I meant to say Microsoft has as of yet shown actual gameplay running on an Xbox Series X. I know they demonstrated Halo, but it was running on a PC if I remember correctly (feel free to correct me if I am wrong).

Sony on the other hand has demonstrated actual gameplay running on PS5, which to me is much more important than showing UI features, etc.

@BAMozzy "You know if Sony bought Bethesda, there wouldn't be any discussion about games releasing on Xbox..."

Absolutely agree with these sentiments of yours. People just need to accept this business transaction and move on. Microsoft is playing catch-up, so to speak, to Sony, so this was a business move to close the gap.

Also, regarding your Game Pass comments......I think game pass is obviously an incredible deal for gamers, there is no denying it. My question is in regards to developers. Do you think they make they best amount of money they can make by releasing the game on game pass?

I admit I still need more knowledge regarding this service, but I would always wonder, with the rise in game development, do developers really make the most money by investing in game pass, or releasing the game traditionally?

Re: Maybe Don't Get Your Hopes Up for Future Bethesda Games on PS5

I hope we can hear in the near future about what the studios think of this acquisition. I really wish Microsoft and Bethesda the very best in their new-found partnership, but I just wonder if the studios knew of this ahead of time and how they felt (I am sure they did).

For example, my favorite studio of that group is Arkane, because I love the Dishonored franchise. From certain interviews they seemed estatic, lively, to be able to work with the PS5 hardware. They praised it and Sony. Now with this acquisition they will probably not be able to work the the system again, which considering how amazing and talented they are to me, and as a future PS5 owner that I will be, it is really a sad outcome in a personal level. I would really like to hear their thoughts on the acquisition. Same with Shinji Mikami's studio, considering they will now develop for a console manufacturer that has never done well in his home territory (even though most of his games are indeed targeted for the western market).

Of course, I am sure they will do well with the Xbox Series X and I hope they are succesful. I am sure with Microsoft's backing they will continue to release more great games that do their talent justice.

Re: Maybe Don't Get Your Hopes Up for Future Bethesda Games on PS5

@AdamNovice I will agree with your point only and only if the PS5 is a resounding success on par with the PS4 and the Xbox Series X is not. Basically, if this upcoming gen is more of the same as this one we are currently in, with the PS4 obliterating the Xbox One, then I will agree with your point that they might come to PS5 for the simple fact that it would be stupid for both Microsoft and Bethesda to ignore the 4X larger playstation market compared to the Xbox market.

Of course, it all depends on how well the Xbox Series X does in the market. If it does well or it is closer in sales to the PS5, akin to the PS3 Xbox 360 gen, I do not think any Bethesda game will be playable on playstation.

Just my opinion.

Re: Maybe Don't Get Your Hopes Up for Future Bethesda Games on PS5

Eadgar

@Rash Not mediocre, I think some of them are great games (I love Dishonored for example) but I think most of them do not sell as well or as people think.

Dishonored 2,for example, did not do well sales wise, which hurt because the game is amazing. But Bethesda games do not sell like playstation studios games. For example, I do not think a Bethesda game sold 10 million this generation while playstation had quite a few who did. Of course if I am wrong please feel free to correct me. I do not have the numbers in front of me but I am going from memory of many articles I read in the past pointing to the fact.

Re: Maybe Don't Get Your Hopes Up for Future Bethesda Games on PS5

They will be exclusive to Xbox and rightfully so, as they are the proprietors of the studios. This is business, just like people celebrate PS exclusives people will now celebrate Xbox exclusives. We all need to accept that and not make a big fuss about it. It is business and I think in the near future more of these things are going to happen, it is going to get interesting.

Re: Reaction: Bethesda Acquisition Is a Kick in the Balls for PS5, But Sony's Goals Won't Change

Eadgar

@get2sammyb "Clearly the project is deep in the red right now, but the firm doesn’t seem all that fussed about the losses it’s incurring."

This line the the article you wrote caught my eye, so my question is, do developers/publisher make money by putting their game in game pass? If they do, do they make the most they could possibly make, or could they have made more, for example, if they released the game normally or traditionally?

I know Microsoft pays them to have their game in the game pass model, and gamers certainly benefit the most from the model, but my question was regarding developers. I did not want to comment since I still know little about the subject so I had hope you might know more. Thanks in advance.

Re: Reaction: Bethesda Acquisition Is a Kick in the Balls for PS5, But Sony's Goals Won't Change

Eadgar

Definitely a monumental moment in gaming history, I do not think a purchase for that amount of money had ever been done (if I am incorrect, feel free to correct me).

Definitely not upset as some are, as it is business. Make no mistake, microsoft is trying to sell you some xboxes or get you into it's ecosystem with this purchase. Good luck to them and their ambitions.

I will definitely miss Arkane Studios. Dishonored is amazing and if they continue the franchise I will not be able to play it unless I invest in building a PC, which this move has all but certainly made me realize it is not a bad idea to do.

Re: Devs Evangelising the Ease of PS5's Development Environment

Eadgar

Good to hear the support. Sony has always had the support of third party developers, the best really, and growing up it was painful to admit as I was a huge( and still am) Ninty supporter. But I soon realized that Sony merited that support as they were easier to work with than Nintendo.

The only hiccup one can say is the PS3, because of the cell architecture. It is still an amazing console and I still own and play on mine, but sony has definitely learned from this so-called setback and realized they need to do what made developers happy to work with them in the first place. Long may it continue.

Re: Soapbox: Screw Sony's PS5 Game Pricing, I'll Just Wait for Sales

Eadgar

Still have not decided what exactly to do. On one hand, gaming is a passionate hobby of mine, but one I do not need to live a comfortable and enjoyable life. I have an obligation to myself and others in my life to decide that there are more important things, necessities, to spend your hard earn money on.

On the other hand, I decided to go all digital with the V because I wanted to support some of my favorite development teams and I know, or rather have read articles on the topic, that buying digitally supports them and is financially healthier for them in the long run.

All of us have a difficult decision to make but waiting for sales is always a sensible thing to do.

Re: Reaction: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Today's PS5 News

Eadgar

@Matroska I agree. The facts and thruths are there for all to see, even though it is admittedly still hurtful. We all love gaming and it is a passionate hobby for most, but there are definitely more important things to spend your money on.

The good thing is we still have options which I will implore people to consider. Waiting for a sale, or better yet, waiting for the inevitable complete edition to release with all extra content will be the way to go for many this coming generation.

I will suggest only preordering a game from your favorite developer for example.

Just my thoughts as I understand the rise in prices but I am still not happy to see it.

Re: Godfall Gets Its Best PS5 Trailer Yet

Eadgar

If I change my mind and decide to purchase the fiver on launch window (was originally thinking of waiting a year and play my backlog of PS IV games), this is at the top of my list of games to purchase, along with Demon's Souls if it is a launch title.

Exciting times!

Re: Activision Bumping PS5 Price Points Beginning with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Eadgar

@rachetmarvel No offense taken mate and you bring up a good point about the assets being reused.

We as gamers can refute these advances by talking with our wallets and I believe may of us will defo do this. I think companies need to set a budget then in order to keep cost down and reassess game lengths in order to do this. I think there was an old article here on push square a while back about a former Sony CEO mentioning this. He was bang on I felt.

Re: Activision Bumping PS5 Price Points Beginning with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Eadgar

Not particularly static to be paying more but I do understand the reasoning, at least with regards to rising development costs (I am okay with DLC that adds to the gameplay experience, but against microtransactions, but that is just me).

The truth has always been that gaming has never been an inexpensive hobby for most, and it will continue to be this way if not worse, maybe. Time will tell how gamers react to this, and it will show on sales charts that is for sure.

Re: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Announced, Full Reveal Next Week

Eadgar

I have not played a COD game since Blops II. I really enjoyed both Blops I and Blops II, but decided to leave the series after that because I had my enjoyment. Since it has been a while I am definitely looking forward to the game because I might jump back in since the series will feel fresh to me, at least I hope. Looking forward to next week.

Re: There's Been a Big Scandal About Whether PS5 Can Run Games in 4K

Eadgar

Console Wars are fun for me from a personal perspective, as long as they are not hurtful. I do not take part in them, but they do provide me with hilarious material I can read and laugh to.

However, spreading false information is something nobody should tolerate. What is the goal of lying? I am glad this was proven false but people should never take what is said on social media as thruth.

Shame that some sites ran with it and made entire articles about it, that is just bad journalism.

Re: A Bunch More PS5 Box Art Has Emerged

Eadgar

Like previous comments have mention, the blue box coloring does not mesh well with the new black and white header. They should of used the color of the PS3 cases, it would of worked well.

However, from a personal standpoint it will not matter to me much since I will be going all digital with the PS5.

Re: 13 Sentinels Gets 19 Minutes of Gorgeous English Gameplay

I have had it pre-order since it was announced it was getting a western release date, back in June I believe. Big admirer of Vanillaware, so anything with their name on it will get my attention. I am looking forward to the game and believe it will continue to uphold the quality of Vanillaware.

Re: Guide: All PS4 Controller Colours

Eadgar

The alpine green is my favorite. The white and green combination is always great, and it just looks class.

I still regret not getting it while it was still being manufactured but, I still had a working controller at the time and could not justify adding another.

Re: Control Locks Free PS5 Upgrade Behind Ultimate Edition

Eadgar

So glad I have waited on my purchase of Control. I know how highly thought of it is to many, a great game.

For me this has no negative effects but, I do feel for early adopters who supported the game from day one. If anything this teaches us all to be more patient when it comes to game releases, since it seems an inevitable complete edition will be release in the future.

Re: Game Sales Are Leaning More and More Towards Digital as Sony Reports Huge PlayStation Store Success

Eadgar

I have over 150+ physical games for both PS3 and PS4 (around 75 games for each, maybe a bit more) but, I will be transitioning to all digital when I eventually get the PS5.

I do still prefer physical games but my main reasoning to go all digital is for the health of the developers, as a while back I read an article about how healthy Capcom business is at the moment and they themselves credited digital sales for that.

I think they get a bigger cut of a game sale is it is sold digitally over physically if I am correct.
