Re: Americans Earn the Fewest Platinum Trophies for PS5, PS4

Jakovasaur

Is this a reflection of culture or design philosophy based on the types of games people play in each geography? For example western FPS games often require hundreds of hours online to get all achievements which are preferred in the US. Is this similar in Eastern titles? Or do you tend to get more games where a platinum is earned upon completion?

Re: FIFA 21 - A Step Up from FIFA 20, But Must Do Better on PS5

Jakovasaur

This might be only applicable to the Switch version, but I think EA should consider publishing this feature on every sports game that make:

“GAMEPLAY
FIFA 21 Legacy Edition will feature the same gameplay features from FIFA 20 without any new development or significant enhancements”

Re: PS5 vs Xbox Series X vs Xbox Series S: Full Tech Specs Comparison

Jakovasaur

Now I get the funny comments here about the minimal spec difference and how it won't be noticeable, all true.

Really this comes down to the following differentiators:
PS5: Twice as fast loading times & awesome exclusives
Xbox X: "Free" console with access to over 100 games at launch through game pass with a decent level of upscaling and enhancements thrown in.

I get the "Free" statements a little provocative, but literally day one you can grab a console and games for nothing and the subscription works out slightly cheaper than buying the console and gamepass out right.

I think this is really interesting, very different approaches.

Re: PS5 Games Could Cost $10 More Than PS4

Jakovasaur

Lets see, cross platform development has never been easier saving money.

The market size is growing increasing volume of sales increasing revenue over time.

We now pay for online services like PSN adding more money into the coffers.

Online gaming services are heavily monitised through dlc, subscriptions, microtransactions and online currency boosters etc.

But yeh let's ramp up the cost of core game prices on top of that, if it wasn't for games like Cyberpunk 2077 im not sure id have much hope for the industry.

Re: More Publishers Pondering PS5 Game Price Hikes

Jakovasaur

Greedy its not like development effort between platforms drives cist like it used to, every platform shares the same architecture type so modifying a game to run on each is likely days or even weeks worth of work rather than months.

Also, gaming as a medium is growing still, they recoop dev costs through volume of sales growing, this is just an excuse to double down and rake in profits.

And lets not even get started on the monitisation of online games, we pay for online services, then pay for dlc and or microtransactions often in addition to the core game price... This medium will be a shadow of itself if the industry continues to normalise this approach.

Re: Don't Believe Everything You Read About Naughty Dog Right Now

Jakovasaur

@Paranoimia Absolutely dilemma is a wonderful story telling mechanism that gaming in its many forms has a monopoly on, real life is one big grey tinted mess, right and wrong are not absolutes, but it seams many people are focused on what makes us different, constantly recruiting to their ideologies in hope of growing influence and status, if we all had the same skin, hair, eye colour and were asexual, we would have people campaigning against others with higher pitched voices or perhaps folks who roll there eyes too much and over use sarcasm.

Lets hope game creation can hang onto it being an art form in some capacity, fingers and toes will remain crossed.

Re: Don't Believe Everything You Read About Naughty Dog Right Now

Jakovasaur

Personally I hate any kind of politics in games, anyone pushing an agenda will likely have taken their eye off the ball in terms of story telling, character development and relatable personalities.

Diversity is great, and the idea that gaming is somehow lacking diverse characters playable or otherwise, is just nuts, we have been lucky to have so many cool characters from different genders and ethnicity's, often entirely configurable from the get go.

Sure there have been some fantastical portrayals of human anatomy and a few games I would say clearly objectify women, I'd argue that male characters have seen this also, but apparently this is driven from a male power fantasy and does not share the same intention and therefore offence :/.

My understanding with some of the outrage around this sequel has nothing to do with gender of the protagonist or sexuality, it is to do with the treatment of legacy characters, this has been seen in numerous movie & TV IPs where a large fan base gathers and is then upset to find they bin all the stories they know in favor of something new or change characters or universes into something unrecognizable, looking after a franchise should be somewhat sacred but unfortunately in some cases, they are seen as platforms to get a message out, rather than continue to tell compelling and relatable stories for all.

Personally I'll wait and see, what actually comes out, fingers crossed this game is all about growing the world and characters we love from the first game, the sad news is rumor and speculation seems to be getting more accurate in general every year, fingers crossed.

Re: PS5 Is One of the Most Revolutionary, Inspired Consoles Ever Designed

Jakovasaur

@zekepliskin I agree, the biggest issue with games I think is larger assets equating to longer load times and I think to some extent lazier coding as memory limitations were largely eliminated this generation, I've sat staring at Borderlands 3 loading screens far too long, without any visual or environmental justification for this.

My concern is that this is tricky to market and Xbox Series X is already demonstrating loading times down to one 3rd of the time. As a mere consumer, I can't call which way I'd lean right now and MS is bringing the evidence to the table, I prefer their controllers and like the design, but Sony has better software historically.

At the end of the day it is still early, customers voicing their concerns can only help Sony address these problems and I get the feeling that launches may be pushed back to 2021 the way everything is shutting down at the minute.

Re: PS5 Is One of the Most Revolutionary, Inspired Consoles Ever Designed

Jakovasaur

@Porco I guess what you sighted as a perk I see as a risk, expecting devs to codes things differently for one console to unlock it's potential is a bit of an ask. Perhaps this is all really simple stuff to the industry vets, but to me, it stinks of the same challenges the cell processor presented back in the day, sure it was powerful but it took years for devs to get into the swing of it.

Re: Reaction: PS5 Deep Dive Was As Expected, But Was Shockingly Misjudged

Jakovasaur

Sony need to take control of the narrative, I can’t believe the amount of ambiguity, SSD storage? An undefined amount, no view of the shell, design etc. No benchmarks of existing games to help create that baseline of what it could do, all we have is trust in the brand, and right now, in this financial climate, that’s not enough to go on.

Re: Talking Point: PS5 Could Be Delayed, And We May Have to Accept That

Jakovasaur

@ownag3 location of manufacture is less relevant than supply chain issues that might be occuring globally, if any sourced component is effected it throws a number of things like cost and timelines out the window, personally I think the delayed Response is reactionary to MS console specs, isn't speculation fun! FACT!

Re: Remember When Dead or Alive 6 Was Pretending to Be Mature?

Jakovasaur

@Jaz007 That's assuming every word said in that interview was honest, it's quite possible they had a change of mind (not heart) in the hope of gaining some credibility in the competitive eSports space, that didn't work out, so back to promoting butts and boobs front and centre, or should that be front and rear?

Re: Remember When Dead or Alive 6 Was Pretending to Be Mature?

Jakovasaur

My advice to developers is stay true to what you want to make, if impossibly proportioned ninjas are your cup of tea, then by god, go put that kettle on.

I remain perplexed as to why anything remotely sexual is exploitative and shameful while murder and torture in video games passes the Hollywood seal of approval?

Re: Feature: PSVR Had a Great Start, But It's Time to Up the Ante

Jakovasaur

I have to say the tech is a big hinderance for PSVR, I had a vive for about 18 month before PSVR and not having room scale freedoms, 360 movement and spot on tracking hurts the experience.

Having just picked up an oculus quest, the gap between tech is even more noticeable, the future is bright for PSVR2 but I think 2 to 3 big titles are all that’s left this gen.

Re: 'People Ask for Story-Based Games, But Don't Necessarily Buy Them'

Jakovasaur

Lol at game costs not increasing with inflation, C64 used to be £2.99 - £5.99 a game from WHSmiths

Mega drive was 14.99 to 29.99 typically

But after that Saturn, Dreamcast, Xbox etc. launched at the £39.99 price point with PS4 being £49.99 RRP, for pc gaming it was even more severe since moving away from retail stores.

Re: Feature: 5 Ways PS4 Can Dominate in 2018

Jakovasaur

I watched a video on Doom console ports and it turns out I used to play doom on the Sega Saturn at around 10 to 15 FPS.

Now days people harp on about 4K 60 FPS vs up scaling and I honestly can’t tell the difference anymore outside screenshots.

The only reason I’d like to see PS5 is for a VR upgrade, I just got a Vive and think it’s the dogs nuts, but PS4 is winning the software race in VR due to its high adoption despite the crippled hardware.

Re: Star Wars Battlefront II Celebrates The Last Jedi with Four Weeks of Free Content

Jakovasaur

Very few if any articles looked at the pros and cons of MTX in this game, it was a witch hunt for hits. Now they clearly went down the pay to win route with vehicle and hero upgrades.

While trooper weapons are locked behind a kill wall that becomes harder to unlock due to increased challenge brought on by player skill increase and accumulation of advantageous star cards.

Also I call BS on the DLC comments indicating all content was ready at launch, get proof or stop speculating, give the devs more credit than that.

Re: Poll: Are You Buying Star Wars Battlefront 2?

Jakovasaur

The sad thing is, this is the most fun I have had in a FPS for years, the game feels more refined than the last outing, tactical play features more heavily, especially when you spawn as a hero.

I had this laugh out loud moment on Kashykk where as a Battle Droid, Yoda got the drop on a team mate and started gunning for me, I instantly turned around and legged it right out into the middle of the open battlefield, after 10-15 seconds I turned round managed to get 400 damage in before being slain, only to cry out in triumph as Yoda was slain by an army of fellow droids.

Meanwhile I heard there is some massive outcry about Micro Transaction?... Pew Pew Pew

Re: 'We Will Fix This' Says Star Wars Battlefront 2 Dev as Loot Box Outrage Rumbles On

Jakovasaur

Bit tired of this conversation, playing the game the last 2 days, I have unlocked 2 heroes, all the star cards for troopers I care to use for now and will start working on hero and vehicle upgrades in a day or two.

Unlocks in BF games have always been slow, hundreds of hours have resulted in a good amount but not all unlocks available, EA locking characters behind large sums of cash was a bit of a bad move, but I only have 3 more to go

I just hope they have a long stron DLC plan for this game, if not their experiment will officially be a failure.

Re: EA Already Promising Changes to Star Wars Battlefront 2 Following Fresh Loot Box Outrage

Jakovasaur

The worst part is these are minor issues blow out of proportion by people not doing the math right, challenges add a tone of credits, watching it played live I saw a YouTuber get 10K credits in about an hour. The reduction is welcome but should it have gone that low?

The best thing about SWBFII is the fact there is no DLC planned to split the community and EA desire to support this for a year or so at least I think, however support for the game needs revenue from microtransactions. There is a real risk that if EA create a market place where no one wants to purchase anything then we are going to see the game go under eventually and planned support cancelled.

Honestly the fact that Darth is locked is no big deal, I would have unlocked him after time, some fat whale gamers will have paid to unlock him and we all would have recieved DLC for free for the next year or so... Now I am not so sure.

Also meta review bombing and jouralists are all over this micro transaction stuff, it gets clicks and creates revenue and will likely sink many games to come, be careful what you wish for.

Re: Sony Surveying Gamers on the DualShock 4

Jakovasaur

For me a taller design which would probably make it ugly would be a great option, I get cramp in my index fingers when required to use the L1 & R1 buttons. I am 6ft tall and average in build so I don't think I am an extreme edge case in my requirement.

& Battery like everyone else said... Hopefully with VR they can drop the need for the lights.

Re: Poll: Is The Last of Us: Part II's New Trailer Too Much?

Jakovasaur

With the 2 trailers that have been controversial, I’m not sure violence is the word we should be using.

Wolfenstein might show a Nazi being eviscerated and no one bats an eyelid, have an angry father being attack his child or two women being beaten by men, and it shows the things we hate most about humanity, we get no good feelings from seeing this much like watching many dramas.

We feel sad, maybe angry, the fact we feel anything is a triumph, we can only hope the final games are as impactful.

Re: Hands On: Star Wars Battlefront 2 Is a Clumsy, Complicated Sequel

Jakovasaur

Loved the beta, class system is fine, I have no idea why it is frowned upon when it has always been so successful in the Battlefield games, they provide a clear purpose and benefit for the team, however some classes feel limited with the starting equipment.

I think the points system needs to be reviewed, costs lowered so more people can play using the vehicles as they wish.

I also think loot crates should be purchasable via the class you intend to upgrade for those to work on their favourites.

But otherwise the gameplay is tight, heroes are more fun to fight against and to play as, plenty to look forward to here.

Re: Review: Middle-earth: Shadow of War (PS4)

Jakovasaur

@Constable_What Micro Transactions.... Hmm At the moment I have too much loot and I have not spent a cent, dime or penny or even considered it.

The pay to win might have a say in the online Meta game, but I'm not sure I even that interested in that mode. I do enjoy killing orcs in Online Vendetta's though.

Re: Review: Middle-earth: Shadow of War (PS4)

Jakovasaur

Wow my copy turned up yesterday... freaking loving this game, the size is still a concern though, but the combat feels better after the first 6-8 levels of unlocks.

Captains are amazing with some very memorable, I love the new trolls and double vault skill... will the wife let me play today though?
