@Grawlog 80% of what I buy never gets past the install. It's just the feeling of getting a game day one. It's like Christmas morning at least 3 days a week at my house. And, there's something to be said for playing a game day one when everyone else is hyped too and talking about it. It's almost worth the extra money sometimes just for that.
X1
Lost Odyssey Best JRPG I've ever played btw- even better than Final Fantasy X. I'm so stoked every day I come home from work just to play more of this game. I'm officially a Sakaguchi fanboy after this one, and The Last Story [Wii] will definitely be next.
3DS
Dragon Quest Heroes: Terry's Wonderland 3D [English Translation] Years of waiting has just paid off- the translation released to the public last night! Forget Pokémon- DQM is where it's at. And thus far we've only seen 2 localizations of the series on DS. So this 3DS fan translation is a real treat. And what a job they did- this could easily pass for official localization... It's that good.
Wii U
Paper Mario Color Splash I'm surprised at how good this game is. The humor is absolutely on point. Toad sticks his head out the door and yells "Hey Mario, you should come over to my dojo... er, my place some time. We can hang out, watch movies- I have surround sound. It totally won't be weird".
Even if I gave in and wanted to order the double pack, the fact it requires the disc now just kills it for me. I don't mind compromise but, little too much imo.
I figure by the time they release this as standalone, IW will be $30 or less with GCU, and I can just score the pair for the price of one game.
It's an impressive list, and I'm by no means complaining. It's just that, well. Quality over quantity. Much of this list is what I'd label as shovelware (100 foot robot golf, anyone?) or 60 minute tech demos. And no standout system seller whatsoever, that's the real kicker.
That said, even small games count for something. And despite a good majority being meh or tech demos it still has a pretty respectable lineup. In fact, it almost works to its benefit having the smaller tech demos (interestingly enough) just by the nature of VR. The included demo disc is the real standout here.
I just want my DriveClub VR, my Tomb Raider mission, my 60 minutes in Arkham Knight, my Harmonix VR, and after launch my Trackmania Turbo (will be sooooo cool) and Psychonauts. Volume and Super Stardust have potential to be be standouts too.
And I'll probably be buying a whole lot more. Anything with an 8 or better from the PushSquare staff tbh. Battle zone, Eve Valkyrie were also preorders so Ill try them out.
With my PS4 now relegated to being an exclusive-only console like Wii U, delays like these make so much more of an impact.
I said it a while back about Gravity Rush 2 getting delayed... what's sad is this doesn't surprise me. What's sad is I already knew this was gonna happen so it's not even like a shocking coincidence.
Idk, it's just depressing seeing some of the greatest JRPG's I've ever played sell so poorly time and time again. It's depression seeing Mistwalker involved in mobile. That's not where they belong. But the money, I understand.
I wanna see the genre do well again on consoles. More than just the brand of FF which isn't even the best, know what I mean
@get2sammyb Ah ok. I was thinking it was straight up 2D.
But if that's the case, that might almost be worth it. As long as they don't make silhouettes of heads to mimic sitting in a theater or something lol. I know it's cinema mode but I don't think anyone wants it that literal.
Oh it's split even for movies? I get it being split for 2 images to make a VR image- that makes sense, but for a non-VR I expected it to not be split.
"I'm guessing you don't play your TV with your eyes pressed against the screen"
Of course I dont... but that still doesn't change the resolution. I understand ppi will appear less but, that's the cost of having a giant screen in front of your face
I hope you're right, given that I've got one on the way.
But after seeing Move pushed hard then dropped, 3D gaming pushed hard then dropped, Vita pushed hard then dropped, even the PS Camera which has seen even less support than Kinect 2.0 which was ridiculed for being unnecessary... I'm not all that confident PSVR is going to see support from Sony beyond a couple years.
@get2sammyb @ShogunRok "Does the Xbox allow external assets?"
I'm interested in this question too. If it doesn't, then this is a full win for gamers. If it does, then maybe not as good a deal as it's being cracked up to be?
At least there's an emerging console market for JRPG's in Japan now with PS4.
It pained me greatly to watch Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, an Atlus/Nintendo collaboration of Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem (2 of the biggest heavy hitters in Japan) flunk the sales charts like some below average game or something. I think Wii U owners just don't know good games sometimes. Xenoblade X too, probably the best JRPG of this console generation. Scraping by just to hit 1 million globally.
But then you look at the Sakaguchi JRPG's (creator of Final Fantasy- he's the reason Final Fantasy was so amazing up through X), and when he made Lost Odyssey for Xbox 360 it barely broke a million, globally. And there were what, 80+ million 360 owners? And now with BC support too, and how many Xbox gamers are supporting this game (arguably the greatest JRPG of all time)? Or The Last Story on Wii- the other Sakaguchi exclusive. Did that one even break a mil? Out of 100 million console owners?
Thank goodness PS4 gamers stepped up to the plate. It's the only way we'll see more high quality console JRPG's.
Companies taking DRM too far. When you start telling me I've gotta put in the disc for a completely separate game A to play game B... you've gone too far.
@MadAussieBloke Well, that kind of goes to my point of people having double standards. They only seem to get outraged at the injustice when they're on the receiving end. Any other time it's "business as usual" and "who cares".
I kind of feel that if a person's gonna take a moral stand against such things, then take a moral stand. Don't compromise. If you truly believe it's wrong and truly believe it's an outrage for games to be contracted into timed exclusivity, then this game deserves every bit as much ranting and raving as any other, Tomb Raider included.
@sinalefa
Problem with @rjejr approach though, is "the longer you wait the cheaper they get, so cheap in fact they sell out of stock and price skyrockets on eBay, then it's a 'why not wait for the sequel now', then it releases and it's 'well I'll wait til it's cheap', then a new console is announced and it's 'well, I'll wait for that', then it's out and it's 'well, I'll wait for a good library', another year goes by, another console gets announced then it's 'well, maybe I'll wait and see'."
10 years go buy, and here you are still playing Knackjacks on the PS2. Don't be a rjejr
Rise of the Tomb Raider PSVR (unfortunately no games to list with it I'm super hyped for) Dragon Quest Builders Skyrim World of Final Fantasy
@sinalefa "TR and I can wait on that"
No... no you can't. You don't understand, but one day... one day you will, and you will look back and say why, why oh why didn't I buy this game before now!
So uh, given the stance some individuals took with Tomb Raider, I'm just kinda waiting around to see if they take an equal stance toward this timed exclusivity.
Go find your credit card, and buy Lost Odyssey for Xbox 360. Then buy anew Xbox 360 to play it on, or one of those $200 X1 since it was just added to the BC list.
Sakaguchi- the creator of Final Fantasy- only made 2 console games after leaving Square Enix. One was The Last Story on Nintendo Wii, which I've told you about before.
The other was under contract with Microsoft Studios- an XboX 360 exclusive called Lost Odyssey. I've been waiting for this game to hit the BC list for 8+ months. I bought it long ago in anticipation for backward compatibility. And it just paid off.
If you asked me, "Jaxon, what's the greatest JRPG you've ever played in your entire life?" I would say to you, "Lost Odyssey".
It's that good. It's better than Xenoblade X, it's better than Final Fantasy X, it's better than Dragon Quest, it's better than every other JRPG I've ever played. The only game I think could remotely challenge it is The Last Story on Nintendo Wii, but I haven't played enough of that game to make a fair assessment yet.
I play a lot of games, and could give you a list a mile long of all the great games I've played across all the different platforms, handheld and console alike. But none have I played as good as Lost Odyssey.
You need to find a way to play this game. If you gotta buy an X1, buy an X1.
@Tasuki
"Another reason I can see them doing this is to block scalpers from buying IW and selling the MWRM code sperately for an inflated price but that's another subject all together."
If they sold it separately there wouldn't be scalpers. Anyone who wanted could just buy the game separately.
I'll admit, Im struggling to entertain the notion that Call of Duty Infinite Warefare needed this remaster to make a profit. Call of Duty is consistently one of the top-grossing games of the modern era. Even a bad Call of Duty game will still make more money than nearly every other game releasing this holiday season.
That would make it the first Call of Duty to ever actually lose money. I don't see that happening, and I'd be shocked if anyone else did either.
@Tasuki
I never said I don't understand though- I understand why they're doing it perfectly well.
Just as I understand why they butcher games into pieces and sell as DLC expansions, just as I understand why they force DRM and online connections. I understand why Microsoft wanted to enforce online checks every 24 hours. I understand why Sony started charging for multiplayer even though 3rd parties pay for their own servers... I understand a lot of things.
Doesn't mean I agree with them though, and just because it works to the benefit of the company's bottom line (which btw, doesn't necessarily mean it benefits the average developer employed by Activision- but even if it did) it doesn't make it right in my eyes.
edit
And, I would add, that even if they're not "wrong" for doing this, does that make me in the wrong for asking for a product I desire? Is it so shameful to you that I would dare say I want them to sell a game separately? God forbid...
I would hardly equate "hey can I give you my hard earned money for this game- I'm begging to purchase a product you have" to being the same thing as saying "curse you for trying to feed your families"
And I think just about anyone here would agree with me on that.
These people are probably richer than our entire community combined. And I promise you that holding this game hostage is not going to make or break whether they have bread on their table at night. Maybe whether they can afford their 7th Porche or not, sure, but these people are not poor peasants struggling to put food on the table.
By your logic, they can use whatever backhanded tactics they want. And don't you dare speak against it because they're just "trying to feed their poor families". Suuuuure. Go ahead. Break off half the game, then split it into 2 $35 post-release expansions. After all, they're just trying to feed their poor families. Hit us with $100 day one DLC. They're just trying to feed their poor families. Hold games hostage to sell crap nobody wants, after all they're just trying to feed their poor families.
@DerMeister Gotchya. Another lost in translation moment
@xMEADx Been a concerning trend lately of people responding without tagging in an effort to avoid notifying the person. Clearly that one was my mistake.
I did hear somewhere that they're going to sell it separately (digitally). Which is cool (if that proves true). But if they're gonna do that, might as well print a few discs for the retail guys, like me. It's not like they won't sell. Heck it'll probably increase their bottom line.
I'm thinking that's exactly what they're gonna do, they're just bluffing right now to drum up oreorders. After the dust settles, I'm thinking we may see a release after all.
@Tasuki "I am sure you would like to get payed for the things you do"
newsflash I didn't ask them to hand out free copies, did I?
There is no reason to cop such an attitude when responding to someone. Ya, they're a business. And businesses should provide products customers want, no? And customers clearly want this game sold separately, no? But I guess being for-profit justifies any and all goof decisions?
I guess hey, they're a business right? So let's chop games up and sell it piecemeal too. After all, you like to get paid for your work, right?
@xMEADx See above. I am fully aware of this as a business. How could you not know this already? But just because they're a business doesn't justify holding games people want as hostage to sell generic, worn out annualized releases people are getting sick of.
But I guess people will defend just about anything. It's a business, so everything they do is just dandy!
@Tasuki That could be part of it. Also I think that, kind of playing into that, certain creators, even genius creators, are at their best when there's an opposing force to balance their extremes.
Like Miamoto. I do not question his creative genius. Half my favorite games of all time were created by him, Pikmin being a very good example. But when left to his own devices without constraint, you end up with bad decisions. Star Fox Zero not including normal controls as alternative, removing story whenever he can, making Mario games more and more generic in the interest of "brand recognition". When given full rein he has a tendency to go overboard, yet when challenged his ideas flourish into masterpieces and modern classics.
Think the same thing with Inafune. MegaMan was great because he didn't have full reign. And you see as time progressed, with the Zero series and ZX especially, how the games became more and more Japanese as they gave him more and more control. Those games look much more similar to Azure Striker Gunvolt than the original series or X series. Not saying those games are bad, but you can see his influence growing as time progressed.
And as you said, it was a team effort. The right people together at the right time.
@rjejr Saving the MH Stories avatar for when it's releasing in the west.
This is from Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D. It only released in Japan, but fans on gbaTemp have a translation in the works.

It's about to drop any day now. And I think I'm more hyped for this than most official releases. They even released a theme in anticipation for release.
I just want Modern Warfare Remastered, on its own disc. Is that too much to ask from one of the biggest multi-billion dollar publishing conglomerates on Earth?
3DS Dragon Quest VII Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final Noitu Love Devolution
Wii U [nothing]
PS4 [nothing]
Vita [nothing]
@Tasuki I didn't like the first because it was so dang hard, but I played a good hour of Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 today and wow, it's great! How can this game be so good, yet Mighty No 9 so meh...
I imagine one plugs into wall, the brick and cord which the wall cord also plugs into and runs into proc box, the cord connecting proc box to VR set, and a cord connecting the proc box into the PS4 or TV? Or maybe the USB connects it to PS4 and other one runs to TV.
In the end it won't look like that much. Most will be tucked away.
I'm tellin ya, Dragon Quest does everything better.
Dragon Quest Monsters is better than Pokémon.
Dragon Quest Heroes is better than all musou.
Dragon Quest Builders looks better than Minecraft.
And needless to say, Dragon Quest is better than most all other JRPG's.
And DQ has great humor. Was playing Dragon Quest VII just the other day and, I pressed the button to check the dresser, and it says "Jaxon checks the dresser..... but he quickly learns they don't open from the back"
I stream, but can you imagine how much data it takes to stream 4K? It's gotta be through the roof, and this can only mean one thing- increasing rates soon as the larger population starts doing it. Both internet rate increases and Netflix premiums.
I haven't played the most of these games, only bought them out of excitement after getting into the series. All I can tell you is DQVII is a masterpiece and comes very recommended. However. Know that the beginning starts out a bit slow to get going. I sat down on a Saturday and said I'm gonna just play for a couple hours to get it rolling, and that's what I did. So give it a fair shake and I think you'll be surprised how good it is. A lot of ppl nowadays though don't have patience for JRPG's.
I also played some of DQV and loving that so far too. And the DQ Monsters games, those are like Pokémon only better.
So ya I'd say DQVII, or the upcoming DQVIII on 3DS if you want a game to make you fall in love with the series. Or DQM games if you love Pokemon.
@Fall1313 "No online connection required for single player"
This is the single question that once again will determine whether I preorder day one or skip it entirely- not even so much as a $5 pickup in a bargain bin.
There just aren't as many games I love on Genesis. The 3D Classics on 3DS are timeless though, and there's a few I'd toss in as classics like Phantasy Star games and Shining Force, but ya it's just missing too many of the all time greats.
That's not to say I don't like Genesis. I love Genesis. I just don't love it as much as SNES.
I'm interested. I can appreciate the caution, but I have faith. Not sure why either, cause Guerilla isn't exactly known for any timeless masterpieces... but, I just do. I don't see how they could screw this up. Hire a writer that knows what they're doing, nail the combat and gameplay loop, and just roll with it.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered May Require Infinite Warfare Disc
@Tasuki
That's totally unreasonable.
Unbelievable.

@DerMeister
Gotchya. Another lost in translation moment
@xMEADx
Been a concerning trend lately of people responding without tagging in an effort to avoid notifying the person.
Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered May Require Infinite Warfare Disc
@Tasuki
"I am sure you would like to get payed for the things you do"
newsflash
I didn't ask them to hand out free copies, did I?
There is no reason to cop such an attitude when responding to someone. Ya, they're a business. And businesses should provide products customers want, no? And customers clearly want this game sold separately, no? But I guess being for-profit justifies any and all goof decisions?
I guess hey, they're a business right? So let's chop games up and sell it piecemeal too. After all, you like to get paid for your work, right?
@xMEADx
See above. I am fully aware of this as a business. How could you not know this already? But just because they're a business doesn't justify holding games people want as hostage to sell generic, worn out annualized releases people are getting sick of.
But I guess people will defend just about anything. It's a business, so everything they do is just dandy!
Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered May Require Infinite Warfare Disc
@DerMeister
And why is that a problem?
If Advanced Warfare isn't good enough to get people to buy it, maybe they should delay it and release it when it is.
But holding a perfectly good remastered game hostage? Tsk tsk tsk...
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 137
@Tasuki
That could be part of it.

Saving the MH Stories avatar for when it's releasing in the west.
This is from Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D. It only released in Japan, but fans on gbaTemp have a translation in the works.

Final Testing 92%
It's about to drop any day now. And I think I'm more hyped for this than most official releases. They even released a theme in anticipation for release.

Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered May Require Infinite Warfare Disc
I just want Modern Warfare Remastered, on its own disc. Is that too much to ask from one of the biggest multi-billion dollar publishing conglomerates on Earth?
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 137
X1
Forza Horizon 3
Lost Odyssey [360]
3DS
Dragon Quest VII
Azure Striker Gunvolt 2
Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final
Noitu Love Devolution
Wii U
[nothing]
PS4
[nothing]
Vita
[nothing]
@Tasuki
I didn't like the first because it was so dang hard, but I played a good hour of Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 today and wow, it's great! How can this game be so good, yet Mighty No 9 so meh...
Re: Rocket League Will Probably Score PS4 Pro Support
PS4 pro support for a game seems more of an "oh ok cool" thing than an "omg! omg!" thing.
But maybe that's just me.
Re: Video: PlayStation VR Comes with an Absurd Number of Cables
I imagine one plugs into wall, the brick and cord which the wall cord also plugs into and runs into proc box, the cord connecting proc box to VR set, and a cord connecting the proc box into the PS4 or TV? Or maybe the USB connects it to PS4 and other one runs to TV.
In the end it won't look like that much. Most will be tucked away.
Re: For Honor's Single Player Campaign Won't Disappoint, Says Developer
Single player???
OK, now you've got my attention.
Re: Hands On: Is Dragon Quest Builders Spades Better than Minecraft?
I'm tellin ya, Dragon Quest does everything better.
Dragon Quest Monsters is better than Pokémon.
Dragon Quest Heroes is better than all musou.
Dragon Quest Builders looks better than Minecraft.
And needless to say, Dragon Quest is better than most all other JRPG's.
And DQ has great humor. Was playing Dragon Quest VII just the other day and, I pressed the button to check the dresser, and it says "Jaxon checks the dresser..... but he quickly learns they don't open from the back"

Re: Microsoft Didn't Expect Sony to Ditch 4K Blu-ray Either
I stream, but can you imagine how much data it takes to stream 4K? It's gotta be through the roof, and this can only mean one thing- increasing rates soon as the larger population starts doing it. Both internet rate increases and Netflix premiums.

I like the pink starfish avatar. Strange though.
Re: Dragon Quest Builders Digs Up PS4, Vita Demo
@Hego
Re: Rumour: Destiny 2 Shooting For a Fresh Audience, Will Be a Totally New Game
@Fall1313
"No online connection required for single player"
This is the single question that once again will determine whether I preorder day one or skip it entirely- not even so much as a $5 pickup in a bargain bin.
Re: Hands On: Sonic Mania on PS4 Runs Rings Around Recent Entries
@sub12
Re: Hands On: Could Horizon: Zero Dawn Be Sony's Next Big Blockbuster?
I'm interested. I can appreciate the caution, but I have faith. Not sure why either, cause Guerilla isn't exactly known for any timeless masterpieces... but, I just do. I don't see how they could screw this up. Hire a writer that knows what they're doing, nail the combat and gameplay loop, and just roll with it.
Re: Store Update: 27th September 2016 (North America)
Got XCOM 2 and Forza Horizon 3 in the mail the other day.
Every week feels like Christmas when the fall season finally arrives. So many games from every corner of the industry,me very platform, every genre.
Bring it.
