Re: The PS4 Slim Looks Much, Much Nicer Than You Think It Does

JaxonH

I don't like it.

But that's ok, cause I don't need it. The OG model is fine.

I just need a model that will let me expand beyond 2 TB. I don't care if it's an external drive or the ability to use 3.5" internal, but one way or another they've got to get this figured out fast or my game purchases are switching over to Xbox where I still have space left.

Re: Opinion: Why the Heck Is Sony Making a PS4 Slim?

JaxonH

@rjejr
Neo is looking more and more like a 2017 proposition. They can't ask people to buy a $500 VR bundle, then turn around the following month and say "and by the way here's another $400 console that you totally don't need but will run games better if you do own VR"

Unless they think people's pockets are bottomless pits and that customers will buy as many hardware units and incremental upgrades as they decide to release

Re: Review: Inside (PS4)

JaxonH

Wow, you don't see one of those every day.

I can't remember if I bought this or not- I think this is the one that released on X1 first, right? If I haven't purchase it then I'm going to make a point to do so.

Re: Review: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (PS4)

JaxonH

@kyleforrester87
Of course there are good ones. But looking at total output, they are a small percentage. I'm talking about the state of AAA in a general sense, not in an absolute all-encompassing sense.

The ones you listed are the ones I buy. But I'm only buying a small percentage of the games being released today, for this very reason.

edit
That said, even CoD and Uncharted kinda fit into the category of games relying on money to do the heavy lifting. CoD now just repackages the same formula, relying on money to change the scenery (at least the mechanics being repackaged are solid though) and Uncharted has so/so gameplay mechanics. It's the moving and engrossing story and incredible presentation that really carries that game. I thought the climbing was subpar compared to other games like RotTR, but the gunplay was definitely the worst offender.

And that's not to say U4 wasn't a great game because the gameplay wasn't really bad- it was actually decent (but there's a difference between decent and spectacular) and everything else was really great which overall averaged out to be pretty great. But I tend to look at a game bare-bones without everything the money tends to mask (or compliment, depending on the game).

Re: Review: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (PS4)

JaxonH

Pretty much sums up AAA games as a whole.

Not particularly great or expertly designed- nothing that has been masterfully crafted... they just have an exorbitant sum of money pumped into them. And money is very good at masking shortcomings. You can buy gameplay mechanics that are functional, you can buy an open world the size of Rhode Island, you can buy pretty graphics and you can buy nice cut scenes and a well written story.

But you can't buy the artisan's touch of their master craft. At the end of the day how smooth the movement is and how weighty the jumps feel and how fluid the mechanics are are going to depend on the skill of the team behind it. And no matter how much money you pump into that team is not going to make them any more skillful.

Re: Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV Is Being Dismantled by Film Critics

JaxonH

Well, film critics are extremely harsh. I mean really harsh. I've seen some absolutely incredible movies it's scored 35%

This film is being rated on a scale alongside some of the greatest cinematic masterpieces in the history of mankind. You've got to take that into perspective.

I'm sure it's absolutely fine for a little throw in movie to go along with the game. It'll be worth a watch, I have no doubt.

Re: Final Fantasy XV Ultimate Collector's Edition Doesn't Include the Season Pass

JaxonH

  • Was the CE overpriced? Yes.
  • Was it bogus how they said "limited to this amount" then sold more? Absolutely.
  • Was the Deus Ex preorder debacle crossing the line? Maybe.
  • But is getting angry over not receiving a season pass which wasn't included in a given pricetag warranted? No.
  • Is getting angry you have to pay full price for a game that's, well, a brand new game on the platform and less than a year old elsewhere warranted? No.

    I agree that much of what they have done is questionable, but not to the extent people make it seem and definitely not for every situation.

Re: Gamescom 2016: Yooka-Laylee Is a Nintendo 64 Game for Your PS4

JaxonH

@rjejr
Ya, PS platformers just aren't the same. More action beat-em-up/gunplay focused.

This is more along the flavor of DKC Tropical Freeze (even has the minecart levels) which is probably the closest thing we've had to a modern Rare game, only this is minus the hardcore difficulty and in 3D.

And PS4 owners actually get to play this one.

Re: Gamescom 2016: Platinum Games' NieR: Automata Will No Longer Be PS4 Exclusive

JaxonH

@rjejr
Idk, think it got delayed to 2017. Figure it'll be showcased next e3, alongside the new Zelda

@sinalefa
Idk, prices for the OG X1 model are incredibly low.

I saw a brand new X1 + 3 games for $200 the other day. That's insane. Heck that's less than a New 3DS XL, and comes with 3 games! And they were good games too, not crap. Like Ori, Halo and Forza.

For that price, I mean shoot. That's weekend pocket change. Granted its a little different for you having to import, but still. I'm paying $80 just for the new controller. $120 more gets you an entire system and 3 of the best games on the system. It's a mammoth of a system and once the Scorpio releases it'll probably be trade fodder, but even so...

Re: Final Fantasy XV Buckles Up Until 29th November on PS4

JaxonH

@Grawlog
That's kind of always been my stance. There's enough games even if you just owned a PS4. Add in the other consoles and handhelds, and there's just so much coming that it really doesn't matter.

One exception to this is when it's a game that I personally am really excited to play above all else. Like Horizon Zero Dawn, or Zelda, or anything wih the name Monster Hunter in the title.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 130

JaxonH

@Gamer83
Oh I gotchya.

First time I tried MH I gave up on it after a few hours. It took hunting online with a friend and having them teach me the ropes and all. Then I loved it, and now it's like my favorite game of all time. My friend Logan got the game the other day but couldn't beat first monster lol, so I jumped online with him, connected a LINE call with earphones, and we hunted til 5am and now he's hooked too 😄

Added btw

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 130

JaxonH

Playing Monster Hunter Generations.

@Gamer83
Add me my man! I play on both my New 3DS XL and New 3DS, so add me on both.

New 3DS XL 5215-3174-9522
New 3DS 0877-3182-0463

Amd may I recommend the top 5 games?

Monster Hunter Generations (MH4U is good too)
Fire Emblem Awakening (FE Fates is good too)
Zelda Link to the Past Zelda Link Between Worlds (though Link to the Past is great too obviously!)
Xenoblade Chronicles
Donkey Kong Country Returns

If you get Monster Hunter, you're more than welcome to hunt online with me and the guys. Trust me when I tell you this is my favorite video game ever made on any platform. It's absolutely amazing.

Re: Final Fantasy XV's Open World Looks Downright Incredible

JaxonH

Seriously, people are actually complaining about the graphics?

Why. Do people feel important when they see a trailer for a beautiful game and they're the ones to say, "oh my goodness it looks so horrible, I noticed these textures were bad and this and that"

I'm glad at least some people can appreciate beauty without trying to rip it apart over every pixel.

Re: Poll: It's Time to Have Your Say on No Man's Sky

JaxonH

Procedural generation sucks.

It's always inferior to intended design. Why anyone would expect the same caliber of game from procedural generation as a well-designed game, is beyond me.

It's just not for me. Xenoblade X was more beautiful, more awe inspiring, more realistic and insane creatures at the same time, it was actually a game to play with RPG battles and armor in upgrades.

That's the only reason I bought this game- because it gave me those same vibes. But deep down I knew it was never going to live up to be even 10% of what that game was.

Re: Narrow Margins Force PS4 from Top of US Hardware Charts for First Time in 2016

JaxonH

@IceClimbers
What?!! How on earth is 3DS on top, even with the new X1S models and cheap pricing? Wow, that's surprising. Really surprising actually. I mean I know it's a good selling platform and has always done well, but I haven't seen it top the PS4 or X1 anywhere other than Japan since its' heyday.

Maybe it was Monster Hunter. (Kinda like Maybe it's Maybaline). Maybe it's finally having the same effect in the west as it does in Japan.

Re: A New PS Vita Is on the Way? Don't Believe Everything You Read

JaxonH

@rjejr
I just replaced my old DS4 with the Uncharted edition controller, but ya, I'd be down for an updated controller.

What I'd really be down for though is if consoles let you sync any blutooth controller and use it, with auto button mapping just so they don't have to implement custom app. As long as it has all the same number of buttons (2 clickable analogs, 4 shoulder and 4 face buttons, start and select and D-pad).

Cause I really wanna use that new Xbox Lab controller on everything. At least I can use it on Wii U for GameCube, although Wii U pro controller is probably the 2nd best controller Ive ever used so it does alright atm.

But even without all that (maybe I'm getting carried away like you were), And updated controller would be nice.

Re: A New PS Vita Is on the Way? Don't Believe Everything You Read

JaxonH

@rjejr
Ya, 8-10 depending.

But honestly that's long enough for even the lengthiest day-long play session for me. That's why that extended battery was so nice because there is no play session that it will die during.

I think it's the light bar and just a cheaper battery. Everything about the PS4 controller is cheap. Don't get me wrong- it's extremely well designed, but the analogue rubber rips and tears, the sticker on the back peels off just from normal use and leaves this sticky adhesive residue, the battery life barely out-does the gamepad (using the extended battery) and it's got a gigantic screen on it.

I just keep two controllers on the official Sony docking station, and when one controller dies I swap it out with the other. At least, in those rare situations where the controller actually dies. I do that for all my systems- 2 PS4 controllers, 2 X1 controllers, 2 Wii U Pro Controllers (even though they hold 80 hours of charge), but just one Wiimote on the rapid charge station.

Re: Promising PS4 Game RiME Re-Announced for 2017

JaxonH

If Sony dropped it, it's probably for good reason.

@BLPs
If you're looking for an all-in-one console then you definitely better get out now because you're never going to get that with a Nintendo console. Ever.

But you're not going to get that with the Sony and Microsoft console either. So really it comes down to buying a console if it has games you like, as opposed to not buying a console for not having games you like. I don't know about you but I love Nintendo games and I refuse to go without. I don't care what third parties do- I own a PS4 and X1, as I would assume you do. I certainly don't plan on buying games twice- one for each platform, and I'm not sure why you would want to either. If you've already got access to those games than what does it matter if they come to that console or not. Only benefit it can bring you is games that you can't currently play, that you want to play. Those are the ones you should care about and make a decision based off of.

But I probably actually would buy games twice if they came to NX, simply because I could be able to play them with modern graphics on the go, something I cannot do with my PS4 and X1. They just don't fit into my pocket well, and I get tired of toting my television on a dolly cart.

Re: Sony Officially Schedules PS4K Neo Unveiling for 7th September

JaxonH

@rjejr
Oh of course. All the rabid Nintendo fans care more about their image and people's perception of them based on the console they own, so they're foaming at the mouth for equivalent power so they can have ammo against Sony and MS gamers.

What they should care about is functionality and games, not fanboy war pissing contests. And if NX is truly a hybrid then PS4 power is not in the cards, simply by virtue of being portable. Still, even Wii U level power on a portable device should be mind blowing for most. I know it will be for me- even the Vita blew me away as a portable gaming device and it's nothing more than a beefed up PS2. The nice resolution helped a lot of course.

I'm still using my 42" Vizio HDTV from 2009. Way I see it is same way I see my car. I bought it, it's paid for, it works well... I see no reason to blow money on a new one until it stops working. And when that day finally comes, I'll buy a 4K TV (if it hasn't advanced beyond that by then).

Re: Sony Officially Schedules PS4K Neo Unveiling for 7th September

JaxonH

@rjejr
I do buy on credit but only to take advantage of the 6% back. Everything I buy I have the money for and pay off the bill right away. Always payment in full- I refuse to pay interest for loaned money. If I can't afford it I won't buy it.

I'm really not feelin the Neo man- if they're gonna crank out $400 consoles every 3 years that's gonna turn into a really expensive upgrade habit. I really, REALLY wanted the X1S but, the 2TB was $400 and nah, not for a minuscule upgrade. I am ordering me one of those custom controllers from the Xbox Lab though.

As for Neo, if it turns out VR really needs it (and I think it will but they just don't wanna say it before VR launches) I may consider upgrading. But personally I really don't want to spend that much money on an upgrade unless they give me an HDD larger than 2TB or external HDD support. My PS4 is already maxed at 2TB. I've had to delete 400gb of games already- it's just ridiculous. Everyone else supports unlimited external storage- Wii U has a 256gb SD card and a 500gb HDD. 3DS has a 200gb microSD, and X1 has a 500gb HDD (but I need to upgrade that to 2TB soon- 2 should suffice since it's an exclusive only box).

So ya, that's where I stand. My brother was all hyped up over Neo thinking it's gonna do 4K gaming and all this jazz. Told him he's asking for disappointment. May output 4K Netflix and bluray but no way are games gonna run in 2160p and maintain 60fps. At best we'd see 30 with dips into the teens, but I guess that's already become acceptable to gamers so what do I know.

Re: Sony Really Needs to Address This PS4, Xbox One Cross-Play Thing

JaxonH

@rjejr
Just because a product fails doesn't mean they don't know what they're doing. Zune was a good product, but markets are harsh and competition is fierce. Should learn that just because a company has a product that fails does not mean they are incompetent.

"Why should I buy an Xbox"

And that's a fair question and people should ask that. And I'm sure Microsoft is smiling because guess what, PC means Windows. Why should they care if a person buys Xbox or PC to play games? Just because you make it a big deal doesn't mean it is to them.

Hence why you think they don't know what they're doing because he you have a certain way of thinking, and you're thinking tells you that the Xbox must sell and the PC is dragging it down therefore they don't know what they're doing, yet Microsoft is probably behind closed doors with the master strategy of pushing their platform and couldn't care less.

Uniting Xbox and PC is good. Good for gamers, good for MS. Let MS worry about the ramifications for Xbox brand, but I can tell you now they are doing it for a reason. You think they devised this master plan of cross play games and not one person stopped to think "hey this might impact Xbox". They know.

Doesn't matter though. 6 in one, half a dozen the other. Total sales between Xbox and PC will not change. If anything it will increase due to the appeal of crossbuy value. Like my brother tonight who told me he's now gonna buy an Xbox One because of the BC and cross play. Again I say, they know what they're doing.

Even with Nintendo I can promise you they have reasons that you and I are not aware of. We sit here in recliners and judge the actions of multibillion-dollar corporation based on information from fansites and tweets. Judge the actions of multibillion-dollar corporation's based on information from fansites and tweets. I don't know their reasoning nor do I understand it but I can assure you they have their reasoning. Just because you're not aware of it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
