As a more casual PS fan, I'd like to share my input to provide some perspective "outside the bubble", so to speak.
I haven't bought one, despite owning a PS5, and both PSVR and HTC Vive. Here's why:
1) After the initial wow factor wore off a month or two post-purchase, VR (at least for me) became nothing more than a more cumbersome way to play less extraordinary games. It's fine once in a blue moon, like a theme park. But not something I want to partake in often. 2) Having been burned by Sony abandoning the Vita and PSVR with mediocre support once it was clear they weren't that successful, I told myself never again will I buy any Sony hardware besides home console, unless it's proven a success first. 3) It's too expensive for the experience it offers. $550 is a lot either way, but if it were something I would use a lot, I'd justify it. But I wouldn't, so I can't justify it. 4) There's no must-play games that makes me say, "wow, I gotta play that immediately!"
As for why it's not doing so well, VR is an extremely niche interest. I understand betting big a few years ago thinking it might blow up, but it just hasn't. Most ppl aren't interested in strapping a massive helmet to their face, especially wired and especially requiring separate hardware. The enthusiasts will, but they're a very small minority. It's also extremely expensive, and is only sold on their direct site.
VR might be able to survive being wired, and even requiring separate hardware, but until it's as slim as a pair of glasses like visor and at a $199 price point, it's not really going to catch on beyond the enthusiast crowd. I think AR is where the future is at in the near term, with new waveguide technology making it compact enough to look like a normal pair of thin-frame glasses.
It's not that the product is bad (though the lack of new compelling software is notable), it's just too expensive and too niche an interest for most consumers. I imagine most who were curious about VR during the boom tried out PSVR or Rift or Vive or Index, got their fill and realized, like me, it's just not something they end up using long term.
@Illyrian You speak in ignorance. Saying gyro is useless is literally saying mouse aiming is useless. Because that's what it is- mouse aiming mapped to the gyroscope.
This is with a PS5 controller. Let's see you do this without gyro aiming, and I'll concede the point.
Heck yes!!! I want more content! A second expansion? Um, yaaaah!
With the recent leak Monster Hunter Paradise is coming to Switch 2 also, it makes sense for Rise to go multiplat. Just make all games for all systems, as it should be.
I just want more content though. Already 800 hrs in the Switch version and still going strong with the recent Title Update 3. I'm so down for more content. Rise is THE best Monster Hunter game ever made and its going to be hard giving up the wirebugs.
Shame Xbox version won't be able to utilize gyro aiming though. It's crucial for aiming your wiredashes and throwing endemic life.
So, I grabbed The Show 22 on Switch- I've always wanted to play the series but knew I wouldn't devote time if it wasn't handheld. I had a Vita but didn't actually know the series was on Vita until years later. It's got some aliasing in handheld on the Switch OLED but overall it's actually a pretty good looking handheld game. Definitely the best portable baseball game to date.
Growing up baseball was my obsession. I still have a basement full of Cards, autographed balls (including Mickey Mantle, Nolan Ryan, another ball with 7 different Texas Rangers signatures obtained in person at games and signing events), etc. Baseball was the one thing me and my dad had in common.
Anyways, I started playing yesterday and I'm blown away by how fun it is. The game is as arcade-like or sim-like as you want it to be. I selected meter pitching which isn't too difficult, but hard enough I have room to improve. I chose timing batting because I just like the more straightforward experience. I love the dynamic difficulty, all the options to customize the experience. This game is genuinely impressive.
It's been sooo long since I've played a sports game I truly loved. I was interested already (hence why I bought it) but I wasn't expecting to love it this much. It's just a ton of fun! Idk what else to say.
I appreciate the guide because I'm clueless with how the game works. I want to make an all star team with all the greats- I guess Diamond Dynasty is the mode I want then. Not sure how I feel about the card packs. It's definitely a fun concept but I can see that being a money drain.
@OorWullie Fire Emblem is super good. I never thought I'd like an SRPG that had turn order as opposed to all units moving for team A, then all units for team B. But this game... it just does it right.
It's got a mature story that develops properly over many chapters, so that when it starts to pop off, you're thoroughly invested.
I wasn't expecting the game to hit this hard but holy crap. I'd even say I rank it above Fire Emblem as my new fave SRPG of all time, and I'm a FE diehard. The story is so good! It's like HD-2D Game of Thrones with the most satisfying grid based strategy you could imagine. Muah!
I saw this Diofield Chronicle is coming to all platforms, and has good music and Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy vets working on it. I'll definitely keep an eye on it. Triangle Strategy has put me in the mood for more SRPG goodness
@WallyWest incels who haven't played the game upset because the game has a female lead
That's... silly. Nobody cares about a "female lead". I guarantee you that is not anyone's motivation (barring a few outliers which I'm sure exist). It's just fanboys. That's all it is. Same reason Xbox exclusives get review bombed, and Switch exclusives get review bombed. It's console wars. They've been raging for decades
Has nothing to do with "incels" or "hating women". It's just fanboys fighting their console war.
Switch players already support gyro. It's PS players we need buy in from.
Between Fortnite (biggest online game on PS) and Horizon Forbidden West (biggest single player game on PS) that could be enough to spark the gyro revolution, similar to how Splatoon 2 and Zelda BotW did so on Nintendo Switch.
Flick stick should not be attempted until after mastering gyro aiming, fyi.
There are 2 approaches to gyro. One is shooting from the Hip, or Hip Aiming. This requires gyro to always be on, which requires more steady hands.
The other is where gyro is only activated when aiming down sights (ADS aiming). This is the preferred method for most FPS. That way gyro is not active except when you're actually zooming in to aim.
Find whichever works best for you, depending on the game. For Horizon, ADS would be preferred, imo. For Fortnite, maybe ADS, but also Hip Aiming could be useful for quick camera turns when building.
And what's most crucial is dialing in the right sensitivity. You want it fast enough you can aim in a good sized radius with minimal hand movement. But not so sensitive it's hard to control or dial in on a headshot. The lower the sensitivity the more accurate you become, BUT, the less range you have. The ideal sensitivity is usually somewhere in the middle.
I just mostly play them on Steam (where every game can have mouse mapped to gyro) and Switch (where gyro aiming is standardized for 1st and 3rd party).
I was literally going to pass on this game and wait for the Steam release just to play with gyro aiming (I can't do it- I can't play games requiring aiming with 20 year dated control schemes with archaic analog input).
I don't post here often, but I wanted to share my thoughts.
First of all, relax. Sony isn't going 3rd party. That's ridiculous. They might, however, be in 3rd place behind Nintendo and Xbox, and that's a reality you'll likely need to come to terms with. Switch just passed 100m units sold in 4.75 years, fastest in history barring the DS. They've dominated Japan. And Xbox will dominate America with Bethesda, Activision-Blizzard, Obsidian, and their own internal IP.
Nobody can be market leader forever. These things ebb and flow. Nintendo was in the dumps in 6th gen, then won 7th gen, back in the dumps 8th gen, and now they're about to smash the record PS2/DS holds for most units sold in a generation. Ebb and flow. Its not the end of the world. All that really gets hurt is your ego.
As for the buyout, it's not gonna get struck down. They're not even remotely close to a monopoly. Even now, they're still 3rd largest publisher behind Tencent and Sony. In fact, this is a good thing. Sony diehards won't see it that way because they're used to winning and this changes the game. But MS has never been truly competitive with Sony. They've struggled every generation (barring 360). This simply levels the playing field.
And for the record, there's nothing wrong with buying a publisher. If company A wants to buy, and company B wants to sell, and they come to a voluntary arrangement, that's fair game. Certainly more fair than ****blocking as many multiplatform titles as possible which is the main PS tactic. If you own it, it's only fair to ask I use your platform. But if you don't own it you have no right to deprive me. I kickstarted Little Devil Inside for Nintendo, but Sony comes along and pays them to only release on PS5 as timed exclusive. Out the gate with PS5, they already bribed 2 Bethesda games, Final Fantasy XVII Remake, Final Fantasy XVI, Forspoken, Little Devil Inside- anything they could get their meathooks into. That chicken's simply coming home to roost. Doesn't feel so good when you're on the receiving end, I know.
At the end of the day though, it's just video games. I just bought a Series X yesterday, despite not being an Xbox guy (I'm mainly Switch and Steam, though I do own a PS5) for Gamepass, as it's too good to ignore at this point. I don't plan to buy any games there- I need gyro aiming so all my purchases are Steam and Switch, but it'll be great to demo games before buying.
Anyways, be ready for one last acquisition. I suspect a Japanese studio since they're sorely lacking in that respect (maybe the Sega rumors have merit?). Xbox is finally transforming their platform into a must-have console, and I'm there for it. Too long have they been the last place stragglers each gen. We need good competition. And since they guarantee day and date releases on Steam, this benefits me greatly. Maybe now Call of Duty will come back to Steam instead of requiring that stupid Battle.net launcher.
But ya. PS will survive. The end this is not. Probably the end of market dominance, but not the end.
@LiamCroft Is there gyro aiming like in the Switch version?
Given the fact the game has cross platform save, I wanted to take advantage like with Witcher 3 where I play the high end PC version at home and shoot the save over to Switch Lite on the go. But since it released on Epic Store rather than Steam atm (and I wont buy non-Steam games on PC because I like to use the community configs to map gyro), I have no high end option with gyro aiming.
That is, unless the PS5 version offers gyro. I can't seem to find this addressed anywhere (perhaps because it's just not included) but if they included it for Switch I can't fathom why they wouldn't for PS5.
If you tell me this has gyro, I'm buying it digitally immediately.
I would get that “rebuilding database” issue on my PS4 Pro every single time I turned it on. Didn’t matter if it was in rest mode or not. I was using an external drive.
Seems like it’s a systemic issue with Sony software. I haven’t yet connected an external drive to my PS5, but I have a 1TB SSD arriving next week for my PS4 exclusives to save space. Now I’m worried about using it.
This is why I transitioned from PS/Xbox to a new gaming PC. Steam lets you map gyro to any game. You can set it always on, or only on when holding ZL to zoom in, whatever you want.
There are some games that don’t allow a mouse and controller to be detected at the same time, and since gyro is best as a mouse input, that sucks. But they do have mouse joystick when emulates mouse input but is detected as a joystick. It’s not quite as good but it’s definitely better than nothing. And thankfully those games aren’t too plentiful.
On PC I’m playing Red Dead 2 with gyro when I aim. Playing Witcher 3 Blood and Wine with gyro for the crossbow. Assassins Creed Origins and Odyssey with gyro when aiming, Remnant From the ashes with gyro when zooming in to aim, CoD WWII with gyro always on. And I’ve got like 250 Steam games where I’d say, about 2/3 of them can utilize gyro for aiming in some way.
On Switch I’m playing Borderlands 2 and Borderlands The Pre-Sequel with gyro always on, but there’s also (not counting motion gestures and other types of games, mostly 1st party, that leverage motion in other ways) Assassins Creed III, Black Flag and Rogue with gyro aiming, there’s also Alien Isolation, Daemon X Machina, DOOM and DOOM 64 (and Eternal soon), Duke Nukem 3D, Hellblade, LA Noire, Metro 2033/Last Light, Okami HD, Overwatch, Fortnite, Paladins, Warframe, Panzer Dragoon, Resident Evil 5/6, RE Revelations 1/2, Saint’s Row 3/4, Sniper Elite v2/III, Splatoon 2, Zelda, Skyrim, Wolfenstein New Order/Youngblood, Outer Worlds, and more I’m forgetting I’m sure.
It’s become a dealbreaker when a console can’t offer gyro. I can deal with one game not having it here in there if there’s other reason to play (like Bioshock Trilogy on Switch, I wish it had Gyro but it’s a portable version and I can make due as an exception to the rule) but it’s gotten to the point I can’t really go back to a control scheme that’s a barbarous relic of a bygone era. We have a control scheme that can go toe to toe with a mouse, yet most people don’t even know about it or understand things have changed since the Wii waggle era.
Other Aim Lab tests have actually shown gyro with higher scores than mouse. It just comes down to the fact most people have been using mouse or analog most of their life but Gyro is something they are still adapting to. Even then, it scores considerably higher than analog here, from a person who admits he’s used other control schemes longer.
The game is $69.99 in total, all DLC included. Compare that to Street Fighter V at $150 and counting (and without an arcade mode or CPU versus at launch) which got a 9/10 from PushSquare. And most of those characters were from past games, with the same moves as the last 20 years. Maybe not the exact same animations but still, The DLC cost $90 for 18 characters as opposed to $20 here (and that on top of a discounted price tag, so really it's like $10).
I just bought the Collector Edition of this game for Switch, and while I have only been playing a few hours thus far (didn't play too much of the demo, just a few matches) I can already say the game is a 9/10. At the very, absolute worst, if you want to knock off a point for the DLC, then an 8/10
@rjejr It helps... It's just marginal. Nothing to do with resolution really. But more stable performance is key for 90-120fps needed to avoid motion sickness
@rjejr Well of course it's unnecessary. Which goes back to my original comment you cited. It's absolutely unnecessary.
But as for myself, the outlier, I don't just buy things when they're necessary, I buy them for the better experience. And PSVR was needed to improve the already suboptimal PSVR experience. It was also desired for the minor gains in normal games
But again, why I bought it is completely irrelevant. I can afford it and I don't honestly care about $400 that much. The important question is why anyone else would buy it with higher priority over alternatives offering far, far more value
@rjejr I don't use it. But hindsight is 20/20 right. Asking why I bought a Pro for PSVR which I don't use much, that makes about as much sense as asking why I bought PSVR considering I don't use it much. Clearly, if I knew I wasn't gonna use it much before I bought it, maybe I wouldn't have bought it.
Even then though, I still likely would have bought it. Like I said, I buy everything, even if I won't use it much or know I'll toss it into backlog for a year.
I needed it for PSVR, and, I'm an outlier anyways. I can afford everything, and I buy everything. If I couldn't, then I would prioritize owning different systems before I would prioritize spending $400 on a resolution upgrade. $400 could basically buy you a Nintendo Switch and an Xbox One. Or close to. And that, to me, seems like it offers 10x the value of a mid gen performance boost.
That said, gaming is my one and only indulgence. So for me, I'm gonna own every single console. Every single upgrade. Every single game. So I don't have to prioritize
@Octane Collecting PS4 isn't my wallet's idea of a good time. At $400 a pop I think I'll stick with my MH edition.
I'll get some Valkyria Chronicles 4 Joycons if they make them though- $80 is alot better than $400, plus dressing up systems you take with you and show others is an investment I can get behind.
@Octane Some, due to the express shipping. But I secured a unit guaranteed. It's easy to look back in 20/20 hindsight, when it comes to my favorite game series I never roll the dice. I would've hated myself for years if I passed up the opportunity to get this when I had the chance.
@Pamela It's because it's a demo under the guise of a beta. This is exactly the same as the demos they would always release on the 3DS/Wii U/Switch. you get three quests and no data is saved.
Idk why they called it a beta. Either way you don't really need anything to be saved because each quest will be preset with certain items in the box to take. There's really nothing to save.
@rjejr Wow, have we been doing the opposite sides thing for nearly 4 years now? Wow... I didn't even realize I had been around on these sites for that long lol.
MH is my favorite game series of all time, so ya I've got a few cents to share. I would give this a try but I'm not too thrilled at the thought of casualizing the series. Timers are crucial in ensuring hunts don't last forever, and often times the challenge comes from killing the monster before time runs out. Some of the best hunts I've had were down to the wire- killed a Glavenus way more powerful for me at the time with less than a minute remaining. Such a rush! And open world sounds cool, but I'd have to see it in action because not every game benefits from being open world. Hunting a fleeing monster would be nearly impossible, for starters. Then there's the combat and crafting, and what would become of that.
It can bare the MH5 moniker, but if it's changing up the game's formula while they continue the core series elsewhere, then in truth it's a spinoff in all but name. As long as the core series continues on Switch in HD with better textures (I love the 3DS entries but, I shouted for joy at the announcement of MHXX on Switch) I'm a happy hunter.
@dark_knightmare2
I don't think anyone thinks gaming portable is something new, but it is amazing when you can actually play in HD with real controllers, and swap right back to the TV in an instant without save transfer tools or additional hardware. I would love to see as many games make it to Switch as possible- for that very reason alone. If they don't it's not the end of the world- that's why I own multiple platforms after all, and Switch has plenty of its own amazing games regardless, but there is definitely legitimacy to wanting games ported onto the platform.
Ya know, a few months ago I held games such as those from Bioware in such high regard. But right now I'm playing the best video game in my entire life, and suddenly games like Dragon Age Inquisition and Final Fantasy XV, games I've hailed in the past, seem dull in comparison. Suddenly games I was previously excited for, like this new Mass Effect, seem surprisingly unappealing.
And, far be it from me to write off a game due to facial animations (Xenoblade Chronicles X was one of the best open world games I've ever played and its characters were kinda goofy looking) but it's kind of expected with western mega-developers. It's not that the faces bother me, they just make me question the quality given even last gen Bioware games had better. It's all a bit moot anyways- I'm keeping my preorder but I won't be playing it any time soon.
I bought a Switch and been playing all day... what a fantastic little console. I don't think I've ever owned a gaming console as awesome as this before. The Joycons are superb, so cool using them for handheld mode, popping them off and using one in each hand (seriously, been wanting to do that since the corded Wiimote released), sliding into grip to make a (surprisingly) capable controller...
And the games really do look great on the Switch. It's literally like having a Wii U crammed into the coolest handheld ever conceived. As a home console it's serviceable- it's no PS4 but, it's about a 720p to 1080p jump over Wii U. Good enough for playing on TV, especially since most Nintendo games have an art style that plays to its favor visually.
But no, PS4 won't gather dust. I mean, I'll certainly be playing it less now that Nintendo's back in the game (and doubt I'll touch anything until I've exhausted every inch of Zelda) but, that's normal. When you own multiple consoles you bounce around to whatever the hot release of the day is. This month it's Zelda and Shovel Knight and Fast RMX and the other launch games, but afterward it'll be Mass Effect and Horizon. Then back to Switch again with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in late April, then 3DS in May for Fire Emblem... you know how it goes.
The biggest advantage Switch brings is allowing me to get more play time in each day- notably at work for breaks. So even when I am back on the PS4 with the new release I can still play Switch at work. There's enough room in life for all these consoles. Naturally everyone has their preference and people will cling to one and treat the other as a secondary, supplementary console... and that's fine. I'm just glad to see so many people open minded to enjoying the best of both worlds.
@Gamer83
I've heard a few people share that sentiment. Me? I've never gotten that feeling buying a new console. And I've bought consoles for lesser games than Zelda, and didn't function as a portable either.
I guess it depends your financial situation but yeah, I always just feel excited for the next game coming out, it's always a thrill to be an early adopter and be there day one is the new games come. If, after five years there was only one game still, then I might be inclined to feel that way lol. But knowing it's a long-term investment it's hard to feel burned when you're know you're going to get your moneys worth in dozens of games for years to come.
Heck I bought PS4 for Killzone... take that back. I didn't buy it for any game- Killzone was just the best on offer and I wanted at least one game to play. I got 3DS with Street Fighter IV, which was actually a pretty decent game to have... the only decent game to have. But I didn't buy the system for it. Like PS4, I just bought the system as an investment and took what I could get day one.
Switch is the first time in like.... forever, I actually feel like I'm buying a console for a game and not just as an investment
They must have little faith in this series. Nobody backs him so he has to go the Kickstarter route, even then with $10 mil (or was it 6mil?) it takes years for them to toy with the idea of remastering the first 2...
Only reason I'm interested is cause I heard they were good games back in the day. And you, I backed on your recommendation
Really excited for this game. Bioware is one of the few AAA devs I absolutely adore.
Not sure when this game releases... I won't have time to play at launch but, soon as I wrap up Zelda this game is next, no question. Love me some Bioware... combat looks much better too.
Been playing a little Nioh to pass the time. I kinda like that game.
@iamtylerdurden1 I think when I made that comment I was referring to 1st party games- makes me nervous not seeing any- a couple of the 3rd party games (like TrackMania Turbo and Dead or ALIVE Xtreme 3) that were supposed to be getting VR modes just dropped off the map entirely.
I'm really excited for Farpoint, and Psychonauts and Golem sound promising, and Ace Combat 7 has been in my sights when that comes.
I've always liked this guy for having an open mind
@Ralizah
That's what I'm saying. Switch is the sexiest console I've ever laid eyes on- they absolutely nailed it out of the park with Switch. This thing is my dream console, no kidding!
The Joycons are definitely the star of the show though. I am so sick and tired of stagnation- I was saying 10 years ago that the perfect controller would be one just like Wiimote and Nunchuk but with 1 dual analog 2 enough buttons 3 cordless 4 modern motion like HTC Vive 5 motion not forced for every game, but that uses regular controls and only allows motion where it fits natural (like Zelda, can use Joycon to aim crossbow, and as I learned from my STEAM controller and gyro, motion aiming is far superior and easier than analog"
Also gonna have
Zelda BotW (best looking game I've ever seen, bar freaking none)
Mario Odyssey (best looking Mario since 64, and open)
Splatoon 2 (sequel to funniest MP shooter I've ever played)
Xenoblade 2 (sequel to best JRPG of all time)
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (finally battle mode and 48 tracks)
Fire Emblem Warriors (love Fire Emblem, should be better than DQ Heroes)
Arms (new motion punchout game looks dope, on a roll with new IP)
Bomberman R (who woulda thought lol?)
Dragon Quest XI (console version on the go? Shoot...)
DQ Heroes 1 & 2 (both games bundled together, man I love me some Dragon Quest)
Skyrim (I'd buy the system just for this and Zelda alone, to have on the go)
And the best part is all of these games will be playable on the go, and even in handheld mode the system is as powerful as Wii U (MK8 runs exactly the same undocked as it did on Wii U, docked it jumps from 720p 60fps to 1080p 60fps). Switch is going to be a dope handheld, even as a console it'll be competent (Zelda and Mario and other games look gorgeous).
@carlos82 No I totally get that. I'm more talking about when people just write it off entirely for... other reasons. Sounds like you actually play all types of games,
I held off getting an Xbox One (the only console I didn't buy at launch) because the library was so similar to the systems I already had. But once a few exclusives came out I was all over it
@themcnoisy Oh I agree totally, it does (although I still play Wii games! And love them, Metroid Prime Trilogy and Other M... those get Jaxon's Stamp of Approval for sure!)
But I think once you reach the HD level that's where the biggest jump his and beyond that things look... good enough. We've reached a point where video games will never really look bad, ever again. Some will definitely impress more than others and I like a good graphically stunning game in 4K as much as anyone, but I still play my 3DS and that thing's in standard def. The Wii U had some good looking games though, and this is definitely a cut above Wii U. I think that despite being less powerful it's powerful enough, enough that the game still look great and they're still really enjoyable, and once you dive headfirst into Zelda you're not going to be thinking about the pixels not quite being is sharp as they could.
@themcnoisy Idk, I have a PS4 Pro, and Xbox One and Wii U, and 3DS, and Vita, and PC. And a 4K TV. I play games with 4K but it never once made me suddenly stop enjoying games that aren't in 4K. Particularly if you're playing on the go or on your back patio or at work or in the kitchen or wherever. I mean I'm all for good graphics but, there's so much out there to enjoy that you miss out on if you strictly adhere to 4K only, which to me isn't really sensible because a game can still be incredibly enjoyable in high definition, in fact most of Nintendo's games look about as good as they're going to get, if your TV does natural upscaling it's not really going to be that much of a difference particularly when a lot of the 4K games on offer aren't really native 4K anyways. Even if they were though, I still wouldn't let that stand between me and playing some of the best games ever just cause they're HD.
@nhSnork
My thoughts exactly. I have an open mind because I do play everything. I know how fun Nintendo's games are because I've been playing all their top releases of the last 5 years.
I think alot of people (and you see this phenomenon across the board with all platforms) get attached to their one brand, and through confirmation bias they reinforce their beliefs that the only viable place to play is on the platform they always play on. They see a presentation, and they (whether consciously or subconsciously) ignore all the cool and exhilarating aspects of the console and focus only on a direct comparison to their own, and wherever the it falls short, they use that to reinforce their belief that it's not worth their time.
For example, power, as you mentioned. It seems now people do a direct comparison, and if it doesn't measure up to their platform they write it off as underpowered, and therefore it's worthless. Disregarding the fact games look brilliant, disregarding it's the most powerful portable gaming device ever (ironic given the obsession with power some have). If Switch was actually called Vita, would people feel the same way? I know most probably think they would. But they wouldn't. Especially if Vita had Zelda, Mario, Splatoon, Mario Kart, Arms, Fire Emblem Warriors, Ultra Street Fighter II, No More Heroes sequel and a long, long list of other games all coming year one. There were dozens of games announced after that presentation, but many probably made up their minds (their minds were made up beforehand) and never even bothered to get all the info. We still don't have all the info.
I do wish more people would open their minds rather than continuing to write off everything cool and awesome just because "it's less powerful" or "it doesn't have the exact same games I'm already playing" (as if anyone would ever want to buy another console for the same games you already have... no, you buy another console for different games you can't play, and in the case of Switch, games you can play portably). Where's all the Disgaea fans? Now you can play portably. Where's all the Skyrim fans? Now you can play portably. Where's all the gamers who got excited for new VR tech? Here's amazing new technology with the Joycons and seamless transition (and it'll actually get supported with great exclusives, rather than be forgotten after launch day)
And Switch, quite frankly, blows that thing away. And I love the GPD Win, it's a great gaming device, but not only is it not nearly as powerful, it has no dock for displaying on TV or controllers with all that tech jammed inside.
If Switch wasn't a hybrid and was strictly a console, I would agree. But being a hybrid changes the rules, and expectations of what you're getting for your money have to be adjusted.
I was extremely hyped for Horizon, and don't get me wrong I'm still getting it. But Switch looks like the most amazing piece of gaming kit I've ever laid eyes upon. Sexy, thin, powerful as heck for a portable device (can run current gen games, and they look comparable too)... I was absolutely blown away by this new system. Launch is thin, but it's got Zelda, Dragon Quest Heroes, Dragon Quest Heroes 2, a few ports like Disgaea 5 and the following month Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, with battle mode (thank goodness).
It'll be sitting on my backlog for quite some time. As soon as Switch releases I'm gonna be playing Zelda Breath of the Wild, and by the time I get done playing that Mario Kart and Dragon Quest Heroes 1 and 2 will be out, and then Splatoon 2 which is basically going to be my entire summer, and Xenoblade 2 of course- that'll be hundreds of hours devoted to that game, and Fire Emblem Warriors, and I'll be picking up lots of other games along the way like Skyrim and Sonic Mania and that new Street Fighter II.
By which time that'll be the holidays and Mario Odyssey will release. And can I just say I am absolutely thrilled with those new controllers. I don't think I've ever been this excited to try a new controller as I am now with the Joycons. Possibly best controllers ever conceived? We'll see.
So ya. Push it back, don't push it back, makes no difference to me. I doubt I'll be playing it within the next year as it stands
I wasn't gonna repurchase since the game was built for Wii U with dual screen gameplay and I already have that, but I may end up buying for Switch due to portability.
But I'll wait for a sale. No need to rush out and get it right away.

Re: Rumour: Sony's Allegedly Cut PSVR2 Production Plan by 20% in 2023
As a more casual PS fan, I'd like to share my input to provide some perspective "outside the bubble", so to speak.
Re: Modern Warfare 2 Stealthily Adds Gyro Aiming on PS5, PS4
@Illyrian
You speak in ignorance. Saying gyro is useless is literally saying mouse aiming is useless. Because that's what it is- mouse aiming mapped to the gyroscope.
This is with a PS5 controller. Let's see you do this without gyro aiming, and I'll concede the point.

Re: Rumour: Monster Hunter Rise on PS5 to Be Revealed and Released Soon
Re: MLB The Show 22 Guide: Diamond Dynasty Walkthrough, Batting Tips and Tricks, and How to Play Baseball
Re: From Triangle Strategy to The DioField Chronicle, Square Enix Never Changes
@OorWullie
Fire Emblem is super good. I never thought I'd like an SRPG that had turn order as opposed to all units moving for team A, then all units for team B. But this game... it just does it right.
It's got a mature story that develops properly over many chapters, so that when it starts to pop off, you're thoroughly invested.
Re: From Triangle Strategy to The DioField Chronicle, Square Enix Never Changes
Triangle Strategy is so 🔥 🔥 🔥
I wasn't expecting the game to hit this hard but holy crap.
Re: Horizon Forbidden West Is Getting Review Bombed on PS5, PS4 for No Reason
@WallyWest
incels who haven't played the game upset because the game has a female lead
That's...
Re: Horizon Forbidden West Is Getting Review Bombed on PS5, PS4 for No Reason
Of course it is.
Exclusive games on Xbox, PS and Switch have been getting consistently review bombed for years now.
I'd be more surprised if you said it wasn't
It's all 0's and 10's from console warriors duking it out on any battlefield they can utilize.
Best to just not look at user reviews on MC. Only Steam User Reviews are worth reading.
Re: Fortnite Gets Even Better with Gyro Controls on PS5, PS4
This is massive news
Re: Horizon Forbidden West Has Gyro Aiming, Many Accessibility Options
@Flaming_Kaiser
I play plenty of games.
I just mostly play them on Steam (where every game can have mouse mapped to gyro) and Switch (where gyro aiming is standardized for 1st and 3rd party).
Re: Horizon Forbidden West Has Gyro Aiming, Many Accessibility Options
Gyro aiming HYPE!!!
I was literally going to pass on this game and wait for the Steam release just to play with gyro aiming (I can't do it- I can't play games requiring aiming with 20 year dated control schemes with archaic analog input).
But the PS5 version has Gyro! Its a miracle!
PREORDERED. PREORDERED. PREORDERED.
Re: Reaction: Activision Blizzard Buyout Is Devastating for PS5, PS4
Re: Immortals Fenyx Rising (PS5) - Formulaic Open World in Ancient Greece
@LiamCroft
Is there gyro aiming like in the Switch version?
Re: Some PS5 Owners Are Experiencing Rebuild Database, External HDD Woes
I would get that “rebuilding database” issue on my PS4 Pro every single time I turned it on. Didn’t matter if it was in rest mode or not. I was using an external drive.
Seems like it’s a systemic issue with Sony software. I haven’t yet connected an external drive to my PS5, but I have a 1TB SSD arriving next week for my PS4 exclusives to save space. Now I’m worried about using it.
Re: Talking Point: Why Don't More PS4 Games Use Gyro Aiming?

Re: Review: BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle (PS4)
Sorry, I just don't see what the problem is.
At the very, absolute worst, if you want to knock off a point for the DLC, then an 8/10
Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy an Upgraded PS4K?
@rjejr
It helps... It's just marginal. Nothing to do with resolution really. But more stable performance is key for 90-120fps needed to avoid motion sickness
Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy an Upgraded PS4K?
@rjejr
Well of course it's unnecessary.
Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy an Upgraded PS4K?
@rjejr
I don't use it.
Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy an Upgraded PS4K?
@rjejr
Re: Japan is Getting a Limited Edition Valkyria Chronicles 4 PS4 Console
@Octane
Collecting PS4 isn't my wallet's idea of a good time. At $400 a pop I think I'll stick with my MH edition.
I'll get some Valkyria Chronicles 4 Joycons if they make them though- $80 is alot better than $400, plus dressing up systems you take with you and show others is an investment I can get behind.
Re: That Beastly Monster Hunter: World PS4 Pro is Heading West
@Octane
Some, due to the express shipping. But I secured a unit guaranteed. It's easy to look back in 20/20 hindsight, when it comes to my favorite game series I never roll the dice. I would've hated myself for years if I passed up the opportunity to get this when I had the chance.
Re: That Beastly Monster Hunter: World PS4 Pro is Heading West
@Fooligan
Figured they might, couldn't take that chance though.
Already have collector edition for both PS4 and X1, and digital copies for PS4 and X1, and Steelbook physical copy on PS4 locked in.
Will be selling the code, cause goodness knows I don't need another copy lol
Re: Guide: Monster Hunter: World PS4 Beta - When Does it Start, What Time, and What's In It
@Pamela
It's because it's a demo under the guise of a beta. This is exactly the same as the demos they would always release on the 3DS/Wii U/Switch. you get three quests and no data is saved.
Idk why they called it a beta. Either way you don't really need anything to be saved because each quest will be preset with certain items in the box to take. There's really nothing to save.
Re: Sony: The Economics Don't Work for Blockbuster Vita Games
@rjejr
Wow, have we been doing the opposite sides thing for nearly 4 years now? Wow... I didn't even realize I had been around on these sites for that long lol.
Re: Is Monster Hunter Finally Coming to the PS4?
@dark_knightmare2
Re: Review: Persona 5 (PS4)
This game looks like a masterpiece JRPG, and will certainly land itself among giants like Final Fantasy X, Lost Odyssey and Xenoblade.
This will be the first game I play after I finish Zelda, which, at this rate will likely be the end of April (130 hrs in so far).
Got the special edition locked in, and a regular version for display.
Re: Atlus Blocks PS4 Share Button in Persona 5 to Avoid Spoilers
...
This is one of the big releases I've been looking forward to this year.
I don't understand this. I love screenshots. I like to document my playthroughs with screenshots so I can look back on my experience.
This will do nothing but aggravate people who enjoy taking screenshots. I mean, even blocking cutscenes is bogus, but the entire game?
Re: Poll: Has the Mass Effect: Andromeda Backlash Put You Off the Game?
Re: Poll: Will Your PS4 Gather Dust Now the Nintendo Switch Is Out?
Re: PlayStation Congratulates Nintendo on Zelda Success
@Gamer83
Re: Rumour: Shenmue HD Will Search for Sailors This Year
@sinalefa
Exactly.

Re: Combat in Mass Effect: Andromeda Looks Like a Huge Step Forward For the Series
Re: For Honor's Single Player Campaign Lasts Around 6 Hours

Mandatory online kills it though.

Finally. Finally finally finally.
Best thing they could've done. Because I've been buying all my games on Xbox One for some time now.

Well done... well done
Re: Sony Music Pairs with Kygo for PlayStation VR Experience
@iamtylerdurden1
I think when I made that comment I was referring to 1st party games- makes me nervous not seeing any- a couple of the 3rd party games (like TrackMania Turbo and Dead or ALIVE Xtreme 3) that were supposed to be getting VR modes just dropped off the map entirely.
I'm really excited for Farpoint, and Psychonauts and Golem sound promising, and Ace Combat 7 has been in my sights when that comes.
Re: Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age's Trophies Tease Imminent Release
Right on. For once a game that's coming sooner than expected... it's a nice feeling.

Re: Review: Gravity Rush 2 (PS4)
A 7/10 huh...
Was expecting higher but, I guess I'll find out soon enough
Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Move Horizon: Zero Dawn's PS4 Launch Away from the Nintendo Switch?
@carlos82
No I totally get that. I'm more talking about when people just write it off entirely for... other reasons. Sounds like you actually play all types of games,
I held off getting an Xbox One (the only console I didn't buy at launch) because the library was so similar to the systems I already had. But once a few exclusives came out I was all over it

@themcnoisy
Oh I agree totally, it does (although I still play Wii games!
Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Move Horizon: Zero Dawn's PS4 Launch Away from the Nintendo Switch?
@themcnoisy
Idk, I have a PS4 Pro, and Xbox One and Wii U, and 3DS, and Vita, and PC.
But, that's just my opinion
Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Move Horizon: Zero Dawn's PS4 Launch Away from the Nintendo Switch?
@nhSnork
Here's amazing new technology with the Joycons and seamless transition (and it'll actually get supported with great exclusives, rather than be forgotten after launch day)
Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Move Horizon: Zero Dawn's PS4 Launch Away from the Nintendo Switch?
@DG42Velka
Oh I don't think so. The GPD Win is the most comparable device, and it retails for $300 also
free screen capture
And Switch, quite frankly, blows that thing away. And I love the GPD Win, it's a great gaming device, but not only is it not nearly as powerful, it has no dock for displaying on TV or controllers with all that tech jammed inside.
If Switch wasn't a hybrid and was strictly a console, I would agree. But being a hybrid changes the rules, and expectations of what you're getting for your money have to be adjusted.
Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Move Horizon: Zero Dawn's PS4 Launch Away from the Nintendo Switch?
Re: Here's How Ex-Wii U Exclusive LEGO City Undercover Looks on PS4
Only LEGO game I can stomach lol
I wasn't gonna repurchase since the game was built for Wii U with dual screen gameplay and I already have that, but I may end up buying for Switch due to portability.
But I'll wait for a sale. No need to rush out and get it right away.
