@KippDynamite you can still buy games on Xbox - everyone seems to ignore that point. Gamepass is an additional choice; which is great. More choice the better.
To be honest, “ownership” on both PS and Xbox isn’t the best with disks being like unlock keys. I feel like every game I buy I don’t really own anyway (realised this too late for sure). So Gamepass works great at reducing the stress of the whole thing.
Still buy physical for Switch though as I love a good cartridge 👌
@KidBoruto ah I thought it could be. Thanks buddy. Just wasn’t sure if it was Trials of Mana situation where we got the old version of the game and then a new version soon after.
I’m confused by this. It’s coming out later this month… but it’s due out in August? I was going to order the physical import for switch which is due 24th June but; what is the August release all about?
@Col_McCafferty true! The deep pockets definitely help. I guess Sony would have to tailor the service to fit them. They have been doing great with PS+ lately so maybe some kind of hybrid as people have suggested before. Doesn’t need to be a straight up copy; but my point was more about immature fans trashing something even though it’s good just because it’s not on their console; which I am so bored of.
With regards to giving Microsoft your money… I mean; if they offer a game that you think is worth playing for the price it will cost you; don’t let their name stand in the way. No one will know that you played a “Microsoft” game. Would be a shame to miss out on something great if you have access to it. I think you and I have had a similar discussion before and I appreciate that i’m not/no longer on your blocklist
@Royalblues I know; it’s hard to be objective. But would be great if we could all determine what was and wasn’t good for the gaming industry going forward and kind of push for that? Playstation has some incredible single-player games and though it’s less discussed; Xbox has some incredible Multiplayer experiences. I’m loving the way things are going at the moment and i’m excited for it all! Just wish the toxicity/immaturity wouldn’t drive away that which is beneficial (just like playstation fans trashing gamepass instead of asking Sony to match it/best it - such a waste).
Though if i’m completely honest; I have in the past called out Sony for copying Xbox with things like trophies etc. But actually that just made it a more standardised thing and i’m glad they did it.
Everyone whinging that Phil took a “shot” at Sony (even though he just stated a fact; he is allowed to mention other strategies) but when Jim says something about Xbox it’s all fair game? At least Phil doesn’t backtrack 5 seconds later.
I think what annoys me is that Phil Spencer has actually been extremely good for Xbox; which in turn is good for the gaming industry. He will most likely stay in the gaming industry for his career. Maybe moving around companies; we need more people in the industry like him. Not Jim Ryan. And Playstation fans should actually be wanting that too. But instead they complain about a good thing out of blind loyalty.
Yea they lied but in a way to take a shot at Xbox. And then all the chavs joined in. And then it all backfired. They should have just looked at Xbox and realised that actually this cross-gen thing could work; and actually thought about it; instead of being petty.
And exactly. Thing is, If Microsoft steps up and starts doing timed exclusivity as much as Sony (which is very possible) then it’s just going to get worse and worse. And then both bases will suffer unnecessarily; and then the fanboys will complain, but it will be too late. Actual exclusives are a different story and are a necessity.
@Beasley2K genuine question: does Sony have a hand in FFXVI development? I actually don’t know either way but if they don’t then all they have done is “paid money to take it away from other platforms”.
@velio84 yes you have found a game that is on Gamepass and isn’t on Playstation. But as my quote says “being on Gamepass doesn’t mean it’s not on Playstation” - that still stands. It’s not a rule.
Your original comment was about Microsoft spending money to get games onto Gamepass. Which yes they do but being on Gamepass is different to being a timed exclusive. That was my point.
@velio84 I never said Microsoft doesn’t have any and in fact I said the opposite. The Gamepass deal is separate from something like timed exclusivity I should think.
@Katsuhono I mean the price discrepancy is a different story. I don’t know what to say about that. Sometimes (in sales for instance) games are cheaper on Xbox and sometimes they are cheaper on Playstation. I guess at that point it’s up to the individual to decide if the value is worth it.
@4kgk2 if they sell that badly on Xbox then why the need for Sony to secure exclusivity? At that point surely the goodwill is more valuable than a few lost sales.
Also yes of course if a game comes out a year later on Xbox it’s not going to sell as well.
@velio84 being day one on Gamepass doesn’t mean it’s not on Playstation though, so PS only gamers can still play the game. Also Final Fantasy may have benefited from Sony in the past, but it’s one of the biggest Gaming franchises now. Microsoft shouldn’t pay for a year of Assassin’s Creed exclusivity just because it benefits Ubisoft.
I always feel weird commenting on this site with something that is defending Microsoft; but I just feel like people here bring up what Microsoft is doing to justify what Sony is doing; rather than imagining if Microsoft did the same as Sony how would they feel. I’m lucky enough to have access to all the consoles (too many) but it sucks straight up for people that don’t.
If they could both stop with the timed exclusives that would be so good. Microsoft does it occasionally but Sony is a million times worse (extending the exclusiveness of FFVIIR for example). Timed exclusives are one of the worst things about the industry. And Sony brags when they secure them.
Edit: oh and I see people defending it. Just remember (as this is a PS site), Microsoft has a LOT more money than Sony and, if they wanted to, could start securing a lot more timed exclusives. Think about whether you would like that, before you defend timed exclusives.
@Rob_230 I really appreciate the list - what an effort! A lot I have played on other consoles which is more on me for buying the Vita so late.
Something like Tokyo Xanadu looks cool but again its £40 on vita and currently £10 on PS4 on sale. This means Vita will lose out almost every time
I want to try the Danganronpa series too but again it’s gonna be cheaper on PS4. I think I will get Tearaway and maybe Sly 4 since it’s a fair price to download. And then keep an eye on Trails OCS and Tales of Hearts. I think Hotline Miami is on sale at the moment and i’ve not played those.
Theres a couple there I don’t know much about so will look into - soul sacrifice, hatsune miku, muramasa. Thanks a lot.
@Rob_230 well for the most part RPGs which of course I know it has a lot of. But they seem to be more expensive on the Vita than anywhere else; but thats why I mentioned Trails of cold steel.
Otherwise 3D platformers which the console seems to be heavily lacking in. I actually have the Sly trilogy from cross buy and I have the Ratchet trilogy. Jak I have on PS4 so no need.
To be fair I should try Tearaway.
It’s hard I can’t explain it; just feels like it’s missing something. And then there are games on it that have been ported to Switch like Atelier or even visual novels.
I think i’ve spoilt myself by having ALL the consoles. And the Vita seems to have the fewest games to justify it’s purchase. The prices kill it though. I would happily buy a couple of the Samurai Warriors games if they weren’t like £33 still.
Sony should re-introduce sales. If I look on PSPrices I can see most of these £30-£35 games have gone down to like £6-£8 before but now they don’t have Vita sales. I missed the boat.
I bought my Vita in 2019 and so far it’s one of my biggest purchase regrets. It has so much potential but the games just aren’t there and the ones I do want are so expensive. I downloaded Persona 4 but haven’t started it yet so there is that. But i’m considering paying the full price to download Trails of Cold Steel just so I have something else substantial.
Edit: oh and I recently got Suikoden 1 & 2 when we thought the store was closing. So there is some playtime to be had there.
@Kratos-sensei pretty sure you can. Look at Bayonetta with Nintendo helping funding it (or possibly Dead Rising 3). Any deal can be made between a publisher and a manufacturer. Whether or not it’s the case here, who knows, but it’s possible.
@The_Pixel_King I just played this game today as I was going through my download list and... it wasn’t that great. But saw your comment from 6 years ago and wow. Hope you’re okay buddy. Sometimes it’s easier to just not reply to these things. But open convo usually helps. Good to see you were doing better in 2017. I do feel like things can always turn around and get better
1) needs to be reported. It’s a fact they are shutting these stores so that is obviously going to be reported. Same as with the Show releasing on gamepass. Of course it’s going to be reported.
2) is bad. And so the more it’s spoken about perhaps the more Sony will realise how crap it’s being. Why stay silent about it. Remember Xbox was going to raise Live Gold price and then the uproar reversed their decision. As a fan of Xbox i’m so glad that was reported about.
You have to remember some of these corporate guys really don’t see what the gamers want. Or what is important to them. Jim Ryan or Don Mattrick. It’s so easy to sink a ship from the helm.
@Carl-G lol ok then. Regardless, Xbox has the OPTION of gamepass or you can still just buy games. So no worries either way. It’s all about options. Remember when Sony said Playstation didn’t need EA Play? There is a lot of hate for Xbox here but maybe just try Gamepass?
If it is successful you will get to enjoy it for a long time. If it is unsuccessful (or unsustainable) then you will have been able to enjoy it while it lasts. Feel sorry for anyone missing out!
@GADG3Tx87 you know what’s funny is I think the one thing locking a lot of people into a system is actually their Achivements/Trophies. I started on achievements in Jan 2006 so it was always the one for me - so if a game comes out on both I will always get the Xbox version. I’m sure others have the same legacy with Playstation. I actually think it’s something both Microsoft and Sony have overlooked. Now just need Nintendo to introduce a system; though it’s extremely late in the day now.
@deathaxe I feel like no one can really judge the success of Gamepass for the next maybe year or two... then we can all have a look at the real figures and see if it is sustainable for Microsoft or not. Me personally... I have no idea either way. As a consumer it’s great.
Also not sure what sock puppeting is (lol?) gonna have to google that... and not sure why i’m on anyones ignore list really. I barely post on this site but oh well no worries!
@Milktastrophe on Xbox, the next gen and last gen achievement lists are one and the same. Its completely seamless. Earn an achievement in Yakuza Like A Dragon on your xbox one, turn on your series X and load your save game and earn the next achievement. It’s just one game. Which is why the saves work so well. I have my Series X downstairs and my One X upstairs and you can literally just carry on playing between the two consoles as if it was the same thing (though obviously at a higher quality on the SX) It’s pretty awesome to be honest.
Smart Delivery is a good thing and anyone saying they don’t need it, are only saying that because they haven’t tried it (or are against Xbox for whatever reason). In no way is Sony’s solution better.
I can understand the frustration from PS players though with this, as you could definitely have deleted your PS4 copy to make space for the PS5 version. So yea thats annoying.
@deathaxe I know that - I assumed they meant they would still have access. Technically if you can’t access something then it’s not in your library. But yes if you re-sub you gain that access back.
The person I originally replied to said that Gamepass is ‘only access to the games as long as you’re paying’ and I said “Same as PS Plus”. Which is true and still stands.
@vapidwolf have you played Grounded? It’s fantastic in multiplayer. Sure they are still adding things as it was definitely released in a alpha/beta state but that is a fun game. I hope you didn’t just go off the IGN review and actually tried it yourself.
They should just bundle them both together for the digital version. Just like Super Luckys Tale and New Super Luckys Tale on Xbox. Digitally on the store if you buy the ‘new’ version of Super Luckys Tale you get a copy of the original too. No confusion; and actually adds (a little bit of) value to the purchase for the consumer.
This is literally just a backwards compatible thing. Nothing to do with Microsoft paying them off. I wonder if people even think about what they are typing anymore.
Oh man, such a small thing but something I wish the Xbox had. It does have stat tracking but on a game by game basis if the Devs implement it. System wide is better. In fact the 3DS is the best console for this so far which is pretty crazy.
@get2sammyb it’s hard to guess everything, but my point is at least with Microsoft they said about accessories working going forward and said that Kinect and its games are getting left behind. So you didn’t even have to make an assumption regarding that.
@get2sammyb difference is Microsoft was straight up about the whole thing from the beginning.
I’ve never actually used PSVR but its one of the things Sony actually offers over Microsoft and something I want them to actually commit to going forward.
@JapaneseSonic everything the Xbox One can play (so games from xbox one and specific games from 360 and OG) can be played on Series X. So thats where the 100% backwards compatible (apart from kinect) comes from. And it is extremely strong BC.
It is a fantastic feature to have and it has encouraged Sony to at least try to have some BC. Since before they tried speaking for the gamers when they said it has no value.
Theres an article on Kotaku (*edit: not sure it was Kotaku now as I can’t find it, d’oh!) right now regarding Rockstar wanting to bring some of its older games to next gen and people are saying how they really want to play San Andreas on their PS5. Also I know some are hyped for a Mass Effect trilogy.
Whenever people say they don’t want to play old games, as a blanket statement, it just sounds like they are trying to convince themselves.
@GigaGaia the smart thing to do is to make the right decision at the correct time. Which is what Phil is probably doing. It could probably go either way. So why would he definitively tell everyone now when he isn’t even sure himself?

@KippDynamite buying a physical copy and then reselling it to recoup the cost; is kind of the same outcome as playing it on gamepass. Just saying!

Oh man, such a small thing but something I wish the Xbox had. It does have stat tracking but on a game by game basis if the Devs implement it. System wide is better. In fact the 3DS is the best console for this so far which is pretty crazy.
Re: PS5 Games Won't Support PSVR, Says Sony
@get2sammyb it’s hard to guess everything, but my point is at least with Microsoft they said about accessories working going forward and said that Kinect and its games are getting left behind. So you didn’t even have to make an assumption regarding that.
Re: PS5 Games Won't Support PSVR, Says Sony
@get2sammyb difference is Microsoft was straight up about the whole thing from the beginning.
I’ve never actually used PSVR but its one of the things Sony actually offers over Microsoft and something I want them to actually commit to going forward.
Re: PS5 Fans Are Very Concerned About Ubisoft's Comments on PS4 Backwards Compatibility
Re: PS5 Fans Are Very Concerned About Ubisoft's Comments on PS4 Backwards Compatibility
Re: All Included EA Play Games on PS4
@GREGORIAN no you don’t. Only as long as you’re subbed.
Re: All Free EA Play Games on PS4
@Repo_Dog same as PS Plus as well
Re: Bethesda Games Are Looking Increasingly Unlikely on PS5
@GigaGaia the smart thing to do is to make the right decision at the correct time. Which is what Phil is probably doing. It could probably go either way. So why would he definitively tell everyone now when he isn’t even sure himself?
Re: Bethesda Games Are Looking Increasingly Unlikely on PS5
@stinkyx fund them, not make them? So basically what Microsoft is doing...
Anyway no. Sony simply paid for timed (maybe permanent) exclusivity. That is paying to stop others from playing the game. Simple as that!
