Re: Poll: Did You Buy Saints Row?

MRaajDar

I loved the old games at the time but from what I've seen this one really stinks of "how do you do, fellow kids" tbh. I might play it if it ever goes cheap enough but my expectations are very, very low.

SR was always peak "f*** it lol shoot dat grandma", intentionally stupid, offensive, take nothing seriously, over the top millennial humour. It was amazing - then. It should have stayed there. Nostalgically wishing everything was still like that, vs still behaving as if it is even though everything around you has already changed are very different things. Obviously that kind of game wouldn't be received the same way now with good reason, and sad as it is to have to move on, it's right that they didn't try it. Personally though, that says to me let it rest, don't dig it up and try to force it into something it's not, that just comes across as really pandering and cash grabby. Even if all you care about is the gameplay, it's prolly not gonna be all that good in a game made for such corporate bs reasons.

Re: Dead Island 2 Is Alive, Release Date and Summary Leaked by Amazon Listing

MRaajDar

@Anke when the post covid economy at least somewhat recovers. No one could buy them at launch because of the stupid scalpers and now we're in a recession, what do you expect? Currently the only people buying them are financially privileged, be it through high income or low outgoings. No one else is going to drop half a month's rent on a new toy when the old model is still pretty well functional. A game for that old model might be justifiable as a treat, or even an investment to keep you entertained at home and not spending elsewhere, but a new console? Lol. And Sony will keep supplying as long as that's where the demand is, it's just sensible.

Re: You're All Wrong! GTA 6 Won't Have the Franchise's First Female Protagonist

MRaajDar

My little sister is 18 years old, I'm 34, big gap obviously. I grew up when feminism focused on not taking no for an answer, a guy says you can't do something because you're a girl go out and do it anyway, if possible better than him.

She grew up being told all men are sexual predators and the patriarchy won't "let" her do things.

I'm a security guard. I've been a gamer since before I was supposed to be angry that women were underrepresented in gaming. She's afraid of men and she doesn't even try at anything she's been told has a glass ceiling.

This is all getting very backwards. Movement is not automatically progress. I find it extremely disturbing that there is a willingness by the mainstream to actively erase women's previous visibility to score culture war points today. They piss on our grandmothers and that is not feminism.

Re: PS Plus Games for PS5, PS4 in June 2022 Announced

MRaajDar

There're a lot of very snotty assumptions here that "everyone" already has GOW lol. It's one of those games that's been on my "yeah I keep meaning to get round to that" list for years but it's never been a priority because there were other things that kept keeping it off the top, be it other games with story or mechanics more to my taste, or just irl things I had to throw money at. I cannot be the the only person who's pretty pleased with this one.

Re: Shadow Hearts Trademark Spotted, Possibly for PS Plus Premium

MRaajDar

This series is one of my biggest justifications for the PS2 and CRT in my spare room that I still can't quite let go of. A remaster might help clear some space I guess.

Koudelka would also be nice, I was a broke kid when I got my copy second hand, already scratched, and I have played it a lot but never without having to FMV skip over the damage on disc 3 xD

Re: Video: Is Live Service Really the Way Forward for PlayStation?

MRaajDar

Pff. People who primarily play these games would have been at the mall or playing football or whatever 15-20 years ago. Gaming isn't becoming more accessible, it is being usurped. A space for people who weren't welcome in mainstream spaces has been invaded and claimed by people who already had their own disproportionately large space but couldn't stand not having everything. Studios have catered to this because of course they have, those people are privileged as hell, meaning higher earning potential, meaning the ability to fling money at trends like chimps flinging turds.

It was bound to happen sooner or later really. I'm bitter as hell though. Oh well. At least there are still indie studios, and it's not as if old single player games aren't replayable. They can never take that.

Re: Soapbox: Why Do You Replay Games?

MRaajDar

I replay old games more than I play new ones if I'm honest.

Not that I don't love a new game, don't get me wrong, but there are a couple of reasons for it I think:

Reason 1 is the simplest: time. My current job is exceptionally demanding and I, an all-or-nothing obsessive, am arse deep in it at pretty much all times. Even when I'm not there I'm still checking my emails, or Trello, or getting pestered to Zoom. This same obsessiveness is why I can't let myself get invested in new games right now - back in those hazy days of 2011 I quit a job to play Skyrim because it sucked me in so hard. It was a ***** job, but still x_x I'm 10 years older now and my job is no longer *****, not saying I'll do that again, but I really can't promise myself that I won't spend one too many nights up too late, or that my work won't suffer for it.

Secondly, and honestly this is a bit difficult to admit: old games are, I genuinely think, the closest feeling I will ever get to going "home". My actual home was not a place I will ever get sentimental about for reasons. I managed to pull together enough money for a secondhand PS2 and a handful of games as a teenager and those same few old games played on repeat were my escape. I was living in my head, entirely absorbed by them, ignoring the ***** fire happening around me. I wasn't much better off in my 20's as you might imagine - such teens generally do not set a person up with a great starting salary - so I did it again, PS3 this time. Sometimes, when life gets unpleasant again now, and I just need some comfort, some familiarity, to go on autopilot for a bit, whatever you want to call it, I don't call my mother, she's a dick. I don't have a partner - I'm a dick. On goes Oblivion, Mass Effect, Shadow Hearts, Final Fantasy 10, etc. I've given up on chastising myself for being a weirdo at this point, it's just what works.

Re: Soapbox: I Can't Keep Up with Service Games

MRaajDar

Sorry to be that guy, but honestly I hate the concept of games at a service and here's my take.

These games would be fine if they were "as well as" regular old fashioned "I bought this and it's mine" games - there as an option for people who like them - but they're not, they're taking over because they're so bloody profitable.

And there we have the root of your issue.

They're not actually a service at all, as service would imply that they were somehow serving you. They're not. They're about getting you to part with money, it's that simple.

The devs behind these models don't care about how you play. They don't care about your social calendar. You aren't keeping up because no one in charge cares if you do anymore, the money comes in anyway, even if the campaign's crap there's always the MP right? Don't need to rely on reviews of the story or complaints about how lengthy it is or those grindy fetch quests when people will gush on Twitch or YouTube about how much fun it is to blow someone's face off with the animation that comes with the newest dlc gun.

It's ***** but it's the way it's going. We the consumer could stop it by withholding our money but when does that ever actually happen...

I am so glad my PS2 still works honestly -_-

Re: Bethesda's 'Will They, Won't They' Relationship with PS5 Rumbles On

MRaajDar

Best on XBox huh. Well that's nothing new, Skyrim was literally unplayable on PS3 at release and the DLCs were so late it was ridiculous...And don't even start me on Oblivion's horse armour, I'm not still bitter, who's bitter?

I've never been an XBox fan, but honestly this, plus Avowed, plus the fact they've always had Fable...I'm leaning that way this time. Never thought I'd say that, but there it is.

Re: Rumour: New Mass Effect Game in Early Development at BioWare

MRaajDar

Pff whatever. I loved Bioware. I even stuck up for Andromeda, and I still stand by my assertion at the time that the game's real problem was resources spread too thin to try to appeal to too many different types of gamer and maximise sales. With the probability of DA4 likely having some sh*t forced-in MMO / Looter system though, I'm done. I liked their games because I like RPGs - real RPGs that you play at a table - but sometimes life gets in the way of being able to get together with friends to play those, and BW had a good substitute model. If they've acknowledged from Andromeda that indeed they were spreading their resources too thin, but chose to focus on refining the insurgent qualities of their games for easy money through mictrotransactions instead of scrapping them to prioritise solid sales to the loyal fanbase who made them, fine, but I feel thrown under the bus, I'm never trusting a word they say again, backtracking to their old franchises makes no difference because I feel like they'll probably just butcher them anyway, and I'm never playing another of their new products either unless it's been thoroughly reviewed, proven to be worthwhile, and probably on sale for at least 5 years. Frankly f**k em. I wouldn't go back to a cheating ex, I'm sure as hell not going back to a lying games company.

Re: Fallout 76 Is Getting Review Bombed by Irritated Fans

MRaajDar

@bindiana again, Skyrim on PS3. It was so broken it was literally unplayable because of the lag, then there was the mess with the DLC. They rushed it out for early release on 360 without checking whether it would even work on Sony, and shocker - it didn't. That was 2011. That was seven years ago, almost to date. Complaining on the Internet won't change anything, except maybe get DLC cancelled because of low expected sales, as above: See ME:A. If people want to see real change they need to stop pre-ordering, stop buying on day one, stop handing over money without guarantee of a worthwhile product. It's easy to forget that business is about profit when the product is fun, something like a game, but really big companies don't give a crap whether you have fun, they just want your money and they're getting it so they don't see the issue.
