Looking forward to that Depth of Field tweak on the Ps4. Hopefully reducing it clears things up in the distance a little & prevents the odd cutscene quirks with the effect
This 'darling' status ND has in the industry never ceases to amaze me. It's like they've entered the realms of godlike recently with this 1080p60 talk. Shame that spec doesn't guarantee a great game now eh, but then with all the hot air blowing around from outlets recently you'd think it was all that mattered
The Xbox One is getting 3D Bluray playback!? Dafuq you playin at Sony? Its one aspect that baffles me. Ps4 plays Blurays, it has 3D games. So why does my Ps4 still not play 3D Blurays? I honestly cant believe how long I've been waiting for this one singular aspect to be added. None of this other stuff people mention interests me or has become an annoyance. Sony are starting to take the biscuit a little with their firmware updates though. My Ps3 is getting on a bit too so it would be nice to retire some of its duties.
No surprise to see Compile Heart bringing the goods early in the Ps4's cycle. Looking forward to this, although I may import instead of waiting on a localisation. My Ps4 needs some Moe, and fast, as I hear it occasionally sobbing due to all the otaku love going to its older sibling. We have Natural Doctrine in a few months time, but that looks nowhere near as interesting as this does.
Everyone & their grandmother knew Sony hadn't blew their load early at E3 as they always spread announcments over multiple events instead of the one as others do
If you shop around, you can get it cheap enough. Ive seen it going for £29.97 the other day. Gonna be waiting a bit myself tho before i pick up the remaster, didn't really think it was much cop the first time, but ill give it another try & Ive preorderd Metro Redux instead.
Was a little miffed not to get any of the new taunts with the season pass, but then Ive only ever rifle butted some fool in the face a few times so its no biggy in hindsight
I doubt we'll get this released here. The previous release never made it over on Ps3, so its doubful. Plus all the White Knights in gaming journalism these days would tear the game a new one so its not worth the hassle by D3 to bring it west. Peeps like myself that like the series will just have to import
I wish they'd just let the series die now. 1 & 2 were fun alternatives to other open world games, but 3 & 4 were just bobbins. Its like they forgot what made the series good in the first place..
@ShogunRok Nice review. Ive been playing this myself & its enjoyable. Definetly more tactical than your average 'horde' mode & the difficulty catches you off guard when you first start. Does take a while to get some of the unlocks tho...
How you've managed to write an article trashing a TV series & eeking out 3 paragraphs for what is a split-second glimpse of a character in a trailer that bears a minor resemblance to an alien species in a game is highly commendable. Its not like Mass Effect doesn't 'ripoff', pay 'homage' or 'reference' any shows/movies cough Star Trek cough
With how incredible it looked on Ps3, the mind boggles at what it could mean for a port to Ps4. I remember interviews pre-launch where mention was made of some rendering techniques from the Ps4 build of their engine had made its way into the Ps3 release. It would be good to see what's in store from this engine of theirs, and with Quantic Dream being the Don, I'd double dip for this.
@NamelessAndi Give it an hour or 2 n if it doesn't click - it wont. I played it on PC and didn't get all the hype either. It's a by the numbers platforming turn-based Rpg with a weak story & artsy visuals. It's a 6/10 game. Decent but it never does anything great or fresh. To be honest there's been a distinct lack of fresh ideas & quirkiness to the 'artsy' scene for a year or two now & with the likes of Ubisoft making millions off it with CoL by pandering to the clique, it leaves one wondering when that spark will reappear
@SimonAdebisi Im surprised they haven't gone the Kickstarter route to get funding for Shemnue III. I think they'd get easily enough money to remaster 1 & 2 while working on 3, maybe even getting some towards a 4th entry like Yu Suzuki says he may need. It is baffling that he's sitting on his hands waiting for a publisher when the fanbase will fund the project a few times over
Wouldn't surprise me if, after all the coverage offered up by Playstation focused websites, Microsoft pulled the cheque book out instead To be honest, interest is waning on this like with The Last Guardian. Its been too long.
@get2sammyb Ghosthunter was pretty good. A little clunky at times but still a solid game with fantastically atmospheric visuals. I also enjoyed Studio Cambridge's other Ps2 title, Primal.
@FullbringIchigo Thats the biggest problem with the industry in the west these days. People just call for innovation & new experiances because they think its hip, when all they really want is a new perk on COD and they're satisfied. Won't be long till studios like Quantic Dreams close up at this rate and then Im done with the games industry in the west
I feel sorry for the lass over at IGN who reviewed the game as some Youtube commentators, one called Dark Side Phil, have been blaming her review for the closure. Seriously. Apparently if the game would've scored better there, the drones at IGN would have bought the game and it would have kept the studio open with the increase in sale it would've got...
Agree with Yosp. A game is a game to me, regardless of its budget. I don't understand the mentality people have of not wanting to play games that haven't had millions spent on their production. I do prefer Indie & Niche titles myself though as most AAA releases these past couple of years have felt a little 'hollow'. You only have to look at Ubisoft & the template they seem to employ for almost all their AAA releases to see what I mean.
@ELAWIS Because Nintendo showed Zelda & Star Fox whilst running a Smash Bros tournament. Hence a lot of tweets. Its that simple. Even I contributed a little with this tweet
I thought all 3 had a rough E3. Only 1 or 2 surprsing games announced. Sony's best during the press conference was an indie game, Miscrosoft relied on CGI trailers for their interesting newly announced first-party titles & Nintendo, well It was Nintendo. I find most of their first party offerings disinteresting & only dabble on the Wii a little of late so I wasn't in awe of what they showed. To be honest Im not an E3 guy myself anyway, I prefer to see whats cooking during the Tokyo Games Show. Even Gamescom tends to have been more interesting that E3 these past couple of years
Everyone wins at these shows with game announcements, but with a few more events stilll to go - Im not putting all my eggs into the E3 basket as there's still more to come this year, from Sony at least as Im not too sure Microsoft bothers much with other events. Nintendo still has its Directs afterall too.
@KillTheG1mp It means those enemies are a higher level than you. I came across some near the Shore but with the level cap at 8, theres no way to get stronger & make your way past them unfortunately. You could try shooting your way through but I was only doing 1 damage so I gave up & retreated.
I dont understand the whining people seem to do for optional microtransactions. Take GT6 for example. Ive played every GT game, the game has always had 'the grind' for credits to buy that shiny new car. If you dont have the time for that anymore, then whats wrong in a person paying a little extra, its their CHOICE at the end of the day, to get more credits instead of grinding? It only becomes an issue when, as what happened to Forza 5 at launch, the in-game economy is so borked towards microtransactions that you feel as though you have to pay for credits as the amount you get from grinding is pittance & cars are overpriced. As long as they are optional and there a choice, I dont care. Really. I'll still be playing the game without paying any extra.
Thats good. Even though I hit the level cap fairly quick (only up to level 8 ) Ive still been playing the alpha. Its been fantastic. Considering there was only a single area to explore, i still haven't got to every section of it! Hopefully get a bit more time on it later to keep exploring.
@Paranoimia Vice City is still the pinnacle of the series for myself
Only just started playing GTAV last week. Been enjoying it a little but I may as well just stop & get the Ps4. Not only does it look better, but the framerate will no doubt be improved. After playing so many smooth games on Ps4, the jittery framerate is painfully noticeable on GTAV.

Theres plenty coming from Japanese 3rd party studios, with the odd 1st party game too, that Im gonna keep walking by in ignorant bliss playing games on my Vita while others cry salty tears into their latte's due to a lack of AAA console quality experiances on the handheld. Sure Sony aren't supporting the console like they did in that first year, but then all those AAA titles released on the Vita in its first year didnt bring home the bacon now did it? Lacklustre sales in the west, even with AAA games, and an increase in sales for Japan means we are at the situation we are now. At least we have a device where Indie & Niche titles can thrive without being crushed by much bigger AAA productions like we have on other consoles. Gotta see the positives in any situation Sony aren't really supporting Vita with many exclusive games, its borderline dead - but the wealth of Indie & Niche titles means it still has a place for myself.
Sooo..violence is perfectly acceptable when its on a AAA game ie The Last of Us, but totally unacceptable when its a game from a niche creator a la Suda51? Ok. Ill keep that in mind.
I wanted a PsP back in the day for one thing. Wipeout on the go. Getting the full console experience on your travels with the Wipeout series blew me away back then. I remember Pure having some great DLC too that was all free.
My PsP still sees regular use even today, mainly for playing imports. Valkyria Chronicles 3 (best in the series), K-On, Project Diva, Criminal Girls etc still have me returning for now. Also currently plating through Persona 3 Portable as the female protagonist to get a slightly different view on things. With my nephews also having PsP's I'll sometimes partake in a few Ad-Hoc races on GT, Motorstorm & Wipeout or co-op on EDF portable 2. The PsP still has much life in it yet for myself.
@ShogunRok When I first fired up Warriors Orochi 2 I was amazed at how they managed to get the full Warriors experience on there! Quite like Dynasty Warriors vol.2 myself as well. Plays like an older warriors game, but the way it's structured is perfect for portable play. Still have it on my PsPgo
Any news on a price for this remaster? Might give it a go but not at full price with the original being around £25 these days. Would seem a little soon releasing next week tho
@Davros79 Indeed. Keep bringing up gaming outlets GOTY awards as a way to keep validating your opinion but it still doesn't mean anything in the context of things. I'm not going to change my opinion no matter how much you keep mentioning GOTY awards n the like as I'm unmoved in my belief of it. I don't see why you feel the need to keep justifying your own opinion with the opinions of others. Your jimmies are well and truly rustled. This meltdown of yours is whats farcical as you can't seem to grasp the basic concept of someone's opinion being different to your own.
@Davros79 Where did I state that the game was an Uncharted clone? I never did, I was referring to the game being a step backwards with regards to its overall quality compared to previous games that Naughty Dog have worked on
Whats idiotic about not following the status quo? Wouldn't following the status quo and using that to validate your own opinion be idiotic because it shows you have little belief in your own opinion? A GOTY award is just the opinion of the outlet. Great. An outlet shares your opinion. I still dont see how an opinion validates an opinion into making it superior to another opinion. Its all just opinions.
Whether its your intention to or not, you've come across as going into a meltdown of sorts with that post. Just relax. Opinions in gaming are as diverse as the games themselves. Not everyone will be following the mainstream status quo.
Wasn't the 2014 release only rumoured anyway? Calm down children. I would've found the game releasing this year to be more surprising & worrysome than the news of a 2015 release that we now have.
Still carry my PsP with me everywhere, its usually ahead of my other handhelds in the pecking order. So many great games, so little time though. Considering the PsP was going up against the juggernaut of Nintendo in the handheld market, over 76 million sold is an impressive number
@Davros79 Well that is interesting. It's not that I'm worried. My interest for ND's output has waned a lot of late as TLoU was even more of a step backwards in playability than Uncharted 3 was. I'm just keeping my expectations in check, that way I won't be left disappointed as I have with as I have with ND's last 2 major releases. Plus there's enough people here gonna be hyping the crappy outta UC4 we don't really need another.
@Ginkgo I like cinematic games myself, big fan of David Cage's work in particular, but story was another area that I found TLoU to be lacking for myself. It just didn't grip me at all after the first few hours. Usually a good story will keep me playing, but when the story & gameplay isn't keeping you interested - the visuals can only do so much
