Re: The Last of Us 2 Job Listing Asks for PC Experience, Has Some PlayStation Fans in an Uproar

@leucocyte That's exactly the growing problem with streaming though. It used to be that 'everything' was on Netflix and everyone rejoiced that they no longer needed 15 different cable packages. Now we are getting back to that point where you have to sub to so many streaming services. They all start to lose value at that point. Piracy is back on the rise because of it.

I get that business models have to have SOMETHING unique to offer these days, but all of this exclusivity is a horrible way for them to treat consumers. There are other more consumer friendly ways to demonstrate service worth.

Re: The Last of Us 2 Job Listing Asks for PC Experience, Has Some PlayStation Fans in an Uproar

@WildStrike Not always though.

There were many cases with this when it came to Fortnite and Minecraft. Consumers felt they had to invest in a separate platform just to play the same games they already own with their friends. Some people were stuck playing (as you call them) inferior versions of these games because they wanted to play with their friends. Isn't this still devaluing a platform because others might not own it? I could be playing Monster Hunter World in 1440p/120hz, but because all my friends play on PS4, that's where I play. Sounds an awful lot like that devalues my PC. Plenty of MH fans bought PS4 JUST to play this masterpiece back when it was console exclsuive. That seems extremely unfair to ask them to spend $200+ sub fees. Once it finally hit PC, they were still 'stuck' on PS4 since there is no cross platform save or MP.

It's anti-choice and anti-consumer. Forcing consumers into bubbles might work well for businesses now, but it's not what is best for the consumers.

@Odin1985x Likewise. I think you missed my point.

I'm saying to me and my uses, PS4 releases are superior and PC versions are inferior. Console experience is by far better than PC gaming experience for me.

What makes you think PlayStation versions will be 'crappy'? What makes you think PC versions will be 'top notch'? There are plenty examples where console games port to PC and have a ton of issues/bugs/performance problems. If you value frame rate and resolution so much, you should be thrilled Sony is releasing more games on PC because it sounds that like is where you want to play. Currently, you don't have a choice. If you want to play HZD, you have to deal with 30fps.

If Sony releases previous exclusives on PC, they will simply be respecting consumers choice.

@WildStrike The consoles worth is what the market makes it. If you plan to buy/play on PS4 anyways, why would the inclusion of a PC or Xbox version devalue the console for you? Exclusives insensitive console sales at the cost of consumer choice.

In the past, exclusivity was more important due to differences in architecture and optimization. Console exclusives might have more time to put into fine tuning and optimization rather than spreading workload to other platforms. Now that all platforms are basically the same (except Nintendo), it just makes sense to spread the love.

The whole idea is we as consumers should have more choices. This idea of exclusives is outdated and just seems to lead to toxic fanboy/girl-ism. This is the same reason why people are pushing for cross platform play. Do you believe in cross platform play? Wouldn't that also devalue the console by your definition?

Re: The Last of Us 2 Job Listing Asks for PC Experience, Has Some PlayStation Fans in an Uproar

NathanUC

@Odin1985x It depends on what you value. To me, a PC version is always inferior for my use. Sure, graphics, framerate, and features are all 'better', but I'm done dealing with PC gaming. I deal with computer/application/server/network issues all day for my job. When I get home, I want to push one button and start playing a game. No dealing with drivers, updates, launchers, peripherals, etc. I did the PC gaming for 15 or so years, but I'm done with it.

You don't have to pay full price on games either. If you aren't happy with performance, wait for a sale (unless you're a Nintendo gamer...). Buying a brand new game doesn't really make much sense most of the time.

Re: Guide: Best Uncharted Games Ranked

NathanUC

I've only played Golden Abyss, 2, and 1. That's also my order from fav to least fav. Story in 2 was fun, but wasn't a huge fan of all the climbing everywhere. Gun play also didn't feel great on harder difficulties. 1 just hasn't aged well imo.

Re: Game of the Year: Best PS4 RPG of 2019

NathanUC

@ztpayne7 Ah that's a shame, but I suppose if you aren't used to MH, things like the controls might feel strange and take getting used to. I can agree that the story mode join coop design is awful until you finish the story stuff.

It's my game of the decade by a wide margin. I think I have like 700 hours in and still find a ton of enjoyment in it.

Re: Game of the Decade: Destiny Paved the Way for Games as a Service

NathanUC

Destiny was one of, if not, the most disappointing games I've ever played. I would also say it was the perfect example of how not to run games as a service. I don't even think it had too significant an impact on the market considering I can only think of a couple games that tried to emulate it. All in all, I couldn't disagree more with this one.

Warframe is great example of how to run a game as a service. You also have WoW, DoTa 2, LoL, Rocket League, Fortnite (which is probably the best example of a GaaS right now), Diablo III, and FFXIV... to name a few. Personally, I feel Destiny had little/no impact on most of these.

Re: Poll: PlayStation Is 25 Years Old Today - What Is Your Favourite PlayStation Console?

NathanUC

I think PS3 was my favorite. It pulled me away from the annoyances of PC gaming and introduced me to the qualtiy of blurays. In general, I have great memories of the library. It also felt like the first major step up in consoles since the Dreamcast or Xbox.

Similar stories about PSP. I skipped the PS1 in favor of the N64, and I skipped the PS2 in favor of Dreamcast/Xbox.

Vita was awesome, but we all know where that went. PS4 has an amazing and probably the best library, but it didn't feel as big of a deal as PS3 did. There are still somethings I prefer to the PS3 over PS4.
