Re: Game of the Month: Top 4 PlayStation Games of January 2018

NathanUC

I couldn't disagree more. MHW is in a league of it's own. It is a masterpiece. How it only got an 8 will always be a mystery to me. How it didn't win Game of the Month by a landslide will only add to that mystery. Celeste (while not my style) is also great and would easily take #2.

Ican'teven.

Re: Sony Officially Details PS4 Firmware Update 5.50

NathanUC

@sinalefa From what I can tell, it's not that kind of system. It's a timer you can put on a game to 'limit' playtime. Example: If you only wanted your kid to play Minecraft for 2 hours a day, you can put a limit.

I'm almost certain this data is tracked by Sony though. They sent the 2017 year in review with gameplay hours... so the data is there... we just need to hope they give us access.

Re: Guide: Monster Hunter: World – How to Mount Large Monsters and Aim for Specific Body Parts

NathanUC

Typically, there's no point to bracing (R2). If you just move instead, you'll do more damage and it won't deplete the same amount of stamina.

You can also shoot your slinger while mounted. This can be useful as certain types of slinger ammo can do higher DPS compared to hitting them with your weapon.

Also, some weapons you spam triangle as a finisher, others you hold to charge up.

Re: Guide: The Best PS4 Co-Op Games

NathanUC

I was terrible at Overcooked. It was a stress inducing nightmare to get 3 stars. I hated it so very.very.very much.

Also, this list is missing Earth Defense Force 4.1; therefore, this list is invalid.

Re: Guide: Monster Hunter: World Weapons - All Insect Glaives, Upgrade Trees, and How to Craft Them

NathanUC

@AFCC When it comes to fire weapons, it's going to have the highest elemental damage. As long as you pair it with elemental boost armor skills (and maybe one to increase sharpening speed), it would be a great weapon for those monsters weak to fire.

I typically go with the Rathalos fire weapons still. They usually have longer lasting sharpness and some decent affinity. Plus, I love the Rathalos armor, so I'm already farming him anyways

Re: Guide: Monster Hunter: World Weapons - All Insect Glaives, Upgrade Trees, and How to Craft Them

NathanUC

@WanderingBullet I'll grab a screenshot when I get off work. For the most part, I would recommend you just stick with the top line tree for now. Raw damage is the most consistent at low rank missions (5 star and less). The Steel Blade series is easy to craft with good sharpness/damage.

Later in the game, you'll somewhat follow all paths. You'll want one of each elemental weapon for sure. So far, I find thunder, dragon, and ice the most useful. I also use poison type insect with no element.

Try not to get overwhelmed. Just slowly work on getting one of each elemental type and using raw damage on anything you haven't researched yet. Don't forget to nurture your insect too! His buffs get stronger the more you 'upgrade' him

Re: Guide: Monster Hunter: World Weapons - All Insect Glaives, Upgrade Trees, and How to Craft Them

NathanUC

@AFCC You can get 4 buffs from your insect. Green, Red, White, and Orange.

Green = heals you for a small amount. No additional buff
Red = Boosts your attack animations and stats
White = Boosts movement and movement speed
Orange = Allows you to take a hit before losing combo? Something like that..

If you have all 3 buffs on, they all get mroe powerful and extended duration.

It depends where you hit the monster with the bug in order to get a color. Red is usually the head, white is often the body, and orange is appendages. I say 'usually', but it's completely dependent on the monster, so it will take a bit of trial and error until you learn where to get all 3.

You get the buff when you recall your bug. R2 + circle.

You can deploy the bug by pushing R2 mid combo or holding L2 and pushing triangle (I think? It's muscle memory for me and I don't have a controller handy). Usually, you'll want to mark using the R2 combo so you don't have to stop attacking.

Re: In One Weekend, Monster Hunter: World Is Crowned the Series' Fastest Selling Entry Ever

NathanUC

Well done Capcom. You took an incredibly successful series and finally released a title on a platform that has been begging for it for the last 10 years. You also fixed nearly all of the issues from the previously successful releases. What a gamble! /s

Let's be real, could anyone truly doubt that this title was going to be a major success? It boggles my mind that anyone could somehow conceive of this title being a risky move.

Re: Review: Monster Hunter: World (PS4)

NathanUC

@PS_Nation I don't play MH games with strangers either. I only plan to play the MP with my close friends.

The problem with strangers is if you get someone far stronger than you, you'll get carried through content and struggle in the long term. It's better to only play with people in the same skill/gear level. Not an easy task.

Re: Review: Monster Hunter: World (PS4)

NathanUC

ten outta ten! ten outta ten! ten outta ten! ten outta ten!

Souls games don't get tutorials, but that's a pass. A major part of the appeal to MH is learning the game and how to succeed.

Re: Review: The Inpatient (PS4)

NathanUC

I played this last night. Holy jeez do I hate the controls It's like they took the really good controls from Skyrim VR and decided they needed to gum them up. Also, you weren't kidding...everyone is huge! I'm 6'3 but even my arms feel like their are coming out of my hips.

I really really really hope this gets a patch to improve Move controls. It feels unplayable at times trying to do something as simple as aim a flashlight or flip over a sheet of paper. There's really strong hit detection to keep you from clipping into things, but it's WAY too strong.

What a bummer.

@crimsontadpoles pro tip, you can pickup and carry around a plate and hold it in-front of your face.

Re: Talking Point: Could Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass Model Work on PS4?

NathanUC

I think it's the future, but it's not really the future I'd like to see. My worries is that it will create a spiral of lower quality first party games (or just shorter games). If people aren't going to buy your game and instead, pay a $9.99 fee, how is that $9.99 split up between the studios? AAA games aren't cheap to make.

Makes sense for older titles though. PS Now is a great value if it works well for you. I'd rather see PS Now offered as a digital service rather than streaming service for PS4 games though.

EDIT: almost forgot.. it won't matter anyways. Monster Hunter World is 3rd party so everyone has to buy it anyways. This other stuff is a bit pointless after Friday.

Re: Review: The Inpatient (PS4)

NathanUC

I'm impatiently waiting to play the inpatient when I get off work. Normally, I'd be bummed about these low scores, but it only has to last me 3 days.

@AFCC : Worry not. I have you covered.
GONE HUNTING
This a Monster Hunter game.
10/10.

Re: 'People Ask for Story-Based Games, But Don't Necessarily Buy Them'

NathanUC

@naruball Even if 4/10 are profitable, how many break even vs lose money? In the above mentioned games, I would have a very hard time believing any weren't profitable (with POSSIBLY the exception of The Evil Within 2). The 4/10 probably refers to all published games. This includes Indie games and smaller titles.

I'm not saying they are wrong or the opinion of Amy is wrong, but I wonder how much is based on expected numbers in relation to other games.

Re: 'People Ask for Story-Based Games, But Don't Necessarily Buy Them'

NathanUC

I don't really know how much money goes into making these games, but I assume it's a lot. I would also guess they cost a lot more than yearly releases like CoD and 2K. Perhaps this is why they 'don't sell well' to the developers. They put all this time and money into a new experience that will still sell far less copies than a slightly refreshed version of a previous game.

It's probably all relative. Did any of the above games LOSE money? I wouldn't think so. As long as you can make the games you want and pay the bills, isn't that a good thing?

All in all, I wonder if merch can be part of the solution. I tend to look for a lot of merch for the games I love, but rarely find any.

Re: Guide: The Best PS4 Racing Games

NathanUC

@Neolit Yep. Dirt VR is the real deal as well. Dirt is already 100x more terrifying than GT:S. in VR it's frightening to say the least. The graphics aren't all there, but most of the rally cars are gutted boxes of raw power anyways. I highly recommend it. I will also admit that I've only played Dirt VR for maybe a couple of hours. I still didn't buy it since I lost my physical copy of the game and would hate to buy ANOTHER copy + the patch.

Re: Guide: The Best PS4 Racing Games

NathanUC

@Neolit GT Sport in VR is amazing, but WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY too limited. You'll only be able to do a 1v1 race against a seemingly brain-dead CPU opponent. I treat it as more of a time trial mode (because for whatever reason, you cannot do time trial in VR...). There's also a tour mode where you can walk around a car.. but not get inside it? The walk around controls aren't good and you only get to see it in a pitch black room with poor lighting. All in all, this mode seems like it was wasted dev time.

Dirt VR is a full VR game. It's a complete package of amazing.
GT: Sport is like a VR demo. It's great and all, but a completely wasted/missed opportunity for something that could have been amazing. I still hope PD expands upon it in the future.

All that said, my favorite moment in VR was In GT:S taking the McLaren VGT (Gr.X) around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Absolutely amazing.

EDIT: I should also mention that you don't get any rewards from the VR races either. It counts towards your daily mileage challenge, but sometimes you'll still need to open the non-VR content for it to register that you've completed the mileage requirement.
