Re: PS5 Pro Prompts Sony's Disc Drive to Rocket Up the Charts

NathanUC

I'm not saying I agree with them not including it on the Pro.. but I will say I've had two disc drives go back in my PS5. I only use it for movies, but tend to use it at least once a week. The first one was a launch PS5 and the disc drive just stopped ejecting discs and scratched the hell out of them... the second was still the 'phat' model, but that disc drive is now flakey where it works sometimes, but often takes like 10-30 re-insertions.

It's at least nice these ones are swappable/replaceable if it fails..... more modularity is a good thing imo

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on PS5 Pro?

NathanUC

Maybe. I am in the crowd of always wanting to play quality mode, but being 'forced' into performance mode for battery gameplay. I also really enjoy PSVR2 and would hope this new power can be used in compelling ways in VR games (as barebones and barren as they are).

The lack of a disc drive is a huge bummer. I never buy physical games anymore, but I do have a large collection of blurays/uhd movies. Being that I still have to keep my PS3 around for 3D blurays though.. maybe it's time to consider a standalone player.

I would like to see this power used to offer more 120fps experiences too. They also mentioned wifi7, but having ethernet is still a requirement for me. I would assume they have one, but you can't make assumptions anymore....

Re: Fed Up with Square Enix, Final Fantasy 14's Healers Are Going on Strike

NathanUC

I stopped playing around 6.2 with a handful of 90s and everything else at least 80. To me, healer was always the most fun because I treated it as a DPS with bonus heals. Sure, the DPS was low, but it was still fun.

I always felt like "difficulty" was such a gray area in this game. None of the roles are difficult if you don't play them at their best. You can be lazy with any role and still get the job done if you really wanted. Why should healer be any different?

Balancing the jobs so that 'lazy' players can still have fun while the try-hards can go nuts without being OP HAS to be near impossible.

Re: 18 PS5 Predictions for 2024

NathanUC

My predictions:
1. EDF6 launches and is the best game of all time, all other 2024 projects cancelled.
2. Dino Crisis Remake announced/released with PSVR2 support
3. Some sort of PlayStation Plus revamp for better or worse

Re: Pour One Out for Gran Turismo Sport, Now Delisted from PS Store

NathanUC

I played a ton of Sport and really loved it. Realistically, I can't think any 'good' reason to buy GT Sport over GT7 though. It's better in every way.

That said, in an ideal world it would have just gotten a patch to remove all online functionality and allow offline mode to work. When it's GT7's time to die, I really hope they take this approach.

Re: Hardware Review: PS Portal Is the Perfect PS5 Companion (For Some)

NathanUC

@Yoop I did this for a while. It's an ok solution, but certainly not ideal. Different person to person, but it starts to hurt my forehead after a while. It's also not the clearest picture. Last problem was just the social aspect. It's a lot more awkward having a conversation or trying to play coop games when you can't see anything around you (including the other players screen)

Re: Hardware Review: PS Portal Is the Perfect PS5 Companion (For Some)

NathanUC

I've been using it a bunch the last couple of days. It's pretty solid. Everyone knows all the great stuff, but here's a couple big complaints though:
1. Performance is way worse than what I get on my Steam Deck. Frame rate/bitrate often gets smeary and gross. It never feels like a 'locked 60fps/hz' experience like it does on my laptop or the Steam Deck.
2. Speakers really are unacceptable. Tinny and harsh. Volume also needs more control... at the lowest it's still pretty loud.
3. 'touch pad' control is awful. Double tap to push doesn't always feel like it registers correctly. It also dims the freakin screen with a vinette when you do it so you can't see vital parts of the screen.....
4. Nit picky, but start up/shut down still feels a bit clunkly/slow. I would rather just push the power button and have it auto connect. Same with power button to auto disconnect/sleep my PS.
5. I'm still not sure about this one, but latency seems to be a problem sometimes. Occasionally I feel like it's missing my inputs or they are super super delayed. Not something I've ever had on the steam deck or with my laptop.

All in all, I still like/use it over my Steam Deck now, but it should be at least on par if not better than it. I hope it doesn't get abandoned and that they fix a lot of these issues over time. I wouldn't count on it though

Re: Diablo 4 Patch 1.2.0 Sounds Like Another Solid Step Forward for the Criticised Action RPG

NathanUC

@Loamy The endgame is very barebones. Not really anything to do or reasons to do them. Itemization is a huge mess where it's tedious and time consuming to sort/manage loot. Balance was kinda wack too where most classes get kind of pin holed into specific builds. Leveling up super super slow/grindy later. Respecing is also very time consuming with no way to manage loadouts so once you pick a build, the game doesn't make it easy to try a different one.

I wouldn't call it awful. I think it's pretty boring once you get to level 70. Could just be me too, but classes aren't very exciting. They've taken a few steps backwards since launch and launch was already in a rough state, so I think that's why you hear a lot of negativity. Base game is still ok/playable/enjoyable.

Re: Video: We've Been Playing PS5 Games On a 200" 4K Projector Screen, and It's Insane

NathanUC

Hadn't heard of this. I run a BenQ TK700 in my theater room. I've considered the x3000i for a while, but I'm holding off for now until next gen laser projectors that can do 4k/120. To a lesser degree, something that does true native 4k without pixel shift. I think with the horizon ultra, you'd still get 'rainbowing' (if you're sensitive to it and I am). It's also still using 4 phase shifting I believe, so not exactly 'native' 4k tho that's a bit pedantic with how good most pixel shift is.

Re: Diablo 4 Yearly Expansions Seemingly Confirmed by Blizzard

NathanUC

The game is so weird to me. 1-35ish was pretty fun but then it lost steam. Then, it gets fun again at like 45 when you do WT3, but boring at 50. Then, at like 55 or so and you move to WT4, it's fun again until like level 60, then there's nothing left yet they 'want' you to play to 100? Would be nice if the expenasions or even future seasons 'fix' that by giving you more to do 50+

Re: Final Fantasy Creator Believes Latest Instalment Is Ultimate Entry in Franchise

NathanUC

To me, XIV is the ultimate Final Fantasy but I 100% understand that it's also not super accessible. I think XVI might be my favorite in the series otherwise, but I'd reserve judgement for a few years when the recency bias wears off. I really appreciate how people can have such different experiences with these games though. That hit me hard when I played and didn't like X at all.

Re: PS5's Remote Play Portable Appears to Leak Online

NathanUC

I really like the idea of a super easy to use/seamless remote play device for around the house. I have and use my Steam Deck for it all the time, but the setup is a pain in the ass and kinda 'shady'. It also has lost config a few times resulting in a bunch of extra work. Battery life isn't great either.

I'd buy this for under 200 usd as long as it works (and works well) over local network, not just only internet.

Re: Diablo 4 Season 1: Launch Times and Everything You Need to Know

NathanUC

Yeah, I'm not one to complain, but whatever they did in the patch last name made the game far more tedious and 'difficult'. Not difficult in a fun way, but it just seems like everything CCs and kills me now. I tried a couple builds, but my sorc can no longer do the content I was doing pre-patch. Hopefully they were unintended changes that get rolled back, but the community makes it seem like these major nerfs were intentional.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Diablo 4?

NathanUC

I'm not really sure what is going on, but I can hardly play this game without it freezing and crashing every 30 minutes or so. For that reason, I'd have to report my experience as a 5.

Other factors are that I'm around level 45, but still not really loving the gameplay loop. Gear and level feel cosmetic only and don't seem to have much impact on the actual gameplay. From level 1 to 45, the game's challenge has been consistent despite content.

Re: Stray (PS5) - Atmospheric Adventure Is the Cat's Pyjamas

NathanUC

I wish I liked it as much, but dang does it feel so stiff/clunky to me. Animations feel really stiff and the linear nature of the 'platforming' is a drag most of the time. Maybe I've just watched too many real cats.

I also had a bug where the cat wouldn't stop purring (even while getting attacked)... not sure if that's a complaint though.

Re: Next-Gen PSVR Controllers Revealed, Includes Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers

NathanUC

"The controllers will be tracked by the headset itself rather than a camera placed next to your TV. "

The lack of external sensors is a little concerning, but that might just be from my lack of experience with this type of tracking. I was hoping for true tracking via room sensors similar to Vive. My hopes and expectations are through the roof with the next PSVR though!

Also, there's now way it could be any worse than the camera tracking we have now.. so improvement is improvement.

Re: This Is Why PS5 Controllers Drift

NathanUC

One of my PS4 controllers had left drift in the right stick. It was my fancy MHW edition controller too Other than than, I've never had drift on any other non-joycon controller (which at least HALF the joycons I've used had some form of drift)
