Re: Reaction: WTF Is Going on with The Last of Us PS5?

Reeneman

It’s not ideal but we shouldn’t take all this online stuff too serious.
They will definitely present the game sometime, probably within a larger Sony showcase, some cross promotion with the upcoming tv series… we will see.
It’s not that the game is now „destroyed“ because of some leaks in social media.

Re: Surprise! Raji: An Ancient Epic Enhanced Edition Is Now Available on PS4

Reeneman

@sanderson72 ok then it really seems to be that software solution like in Crysis.
Price seems to be real fair for that game. With nearly finishing Horizon 2 now after around 100 hrs of playtime (since Feb) and nearly platinum I will take a step away from these large games for the next weeks.
Some smaller titles like Stray, Hoa, The Ascent and Raji are very welcome

Re: PS5, PS4 Pipped to the Discord Punch Despite Investment and Partnership

Reeneman

@D34DL1N3R but it’s different. The price calculation and expected features from a stand alone UHD BD player are different than the ones from a gaming console.
Sony would need to pay licensing fees for nearly every sold ps5 or whatever kind of deal they would make with Dolby. Dolby makes a lot of money with this stuff.
To say their TVs or players have DV and therefore they will implement this on ps5 as well is nonsense sorry.
I would be happy to have these features because I use my ps5 as well as UHD player, at least the very rare occasions when I watch a movie on disc.
It was similar with audio Cd playback on ps4 - technically it would be possible, their Stand alone player will have this feature, too… but it’s not on the console because of the licensing fees for each device.

To sell it individually as a license that the user can buy on her/his console, yes this would be an idea for sure. But we know Sony, they are not that much into this additional stuff.

Re: New Horizon Forbidden West Update Adds 40fps Mode, VRR Support

Reeneman

@rjejr for VRR on the ps5 you need at least 48 fps. Everything underneath is out of the supported VRR window and will cause stutter. Devs can implement their own Low frame rate compensation (LFC) (insomniac did this for example), in this case even fps under 48 are ok for a VRR mode.

You can find a lot of good explanations around this topic on YouTube. For example check out the channel „Gaming Tech“. There you will get a really good explanation around this whole topic.

The idea with 40 Fps is different and not really has something to do with VRR. The idea is to run a fixed 40 fps to run the game with its highest fidelity, as far as possible. 40 compared to 30 Fps sounds not much but it already plays a lot smoother. 40 fps feeling pretty good.
90 fps would be an option as well for 120 hz screens, but it’s not really a topic currently.

Re: New Horizon Forbidden West Update Adds 40fps Mode, VRR Support

Reeneman

@Gloamin I tested the new patch during my launch break today haha. It’s really hard to decide which mode too choose. 40 fps playing really good and again I’m impressed how much better this is compared to 30fps, while the performance mode (seems to be 60-80 fps) is sooo smooth but has the small upscaling issues in some areas but they are very very minor.

Re: New Horizon Forbidden West Update Adds 40fps Mode, VRR Support

Reeneman

@sanderson72 the game is looking great on all the available platforms, even the base ps4.
It’s the ongoing discussion - for sure as a ps5 only title it most likely would look a bit better but I absolutely won’t complain about it. I think it’s beautiful on ps5, really impressed so far.

Hero lightning does look a bit off in some cases that’s true but that’s not a specific ps5 issue.

Re: New Horizon Forbidden West Update Adds 40fps Mode, VRR Support

Reeneman

@sanderson72 uff. Yes it’s a cross gen game but have you seen those visuals on the ps5? It’s really stunning in my opinion, especially since the improved 60 fps mode.
They call the 40 fps mode „balanced“ that’s right but we don’t know which, or if any, graphical differences between the 40 fps and the 30 fps there are.
I would believe for now that the settings are mostly the same between both.

Take care with the smaller size TVs. These sites of 48 inches are sometime lacking the 120 fps/ VRR features. Better double check this before buying.

Re: New Horizon Forbidden West Update Adds 40fps Mode, VRR Support

Reeneman

@Gloamin I guess so. Not sure if it remains exactly the same settings as the 4K/30 mode but it should be very very close. Looking forward to more in depth analysis.
Furthermore I’m curious how much headroom the game has in the 60 fps VRR Mode. Not able to see the exact framerate on my Lg E9.

Game feels very very smooth in the 60 fps mode. The 40 fps mode feels great, too. Hard to decide which way to play. Already impressed again how much better 40 Fps feels compared to 30 Fps.

Re: The Abysmal XIII Remake Gets a Huge Overhaul in September

Reeneman

Curious to see how much the art style will be changed by the new dev studio.
Would be interested to play it some day, totally missed the original back in the days.

Nevertheless: Does this ever happened to a game before that another dev studio took it over after release and the new overhaul will be released as a kind of patch?

Re: A Plague Tale: Requiem Brings Back Rats on 18th October for PS5

Reeneman

@Bleachedsmiles let’s make it more clear … it has the risk that it will negatively impact huge triple A games. It seems that you are well I formed about game development, so you know how much budget is behind such a game.
And like I said Sea of thieves might be a very nice title but this isn’t a huge triple a title. Games of this size are fine for such a service, same goes for other more indie like titles.
But you won’t be able to release a huge amount of triple A titles just backed with such a service.
That’s the main marketing bubble by Ms, again. Why they’re not going to release all of their titles only by GamePass? Because they rely on sales on PC and PlayStation as well.

Re: A Plague Tale: Requiem Brings Back Rats on 18th October for PS5

Reeneman

@Bleachedsmiles I don’t nee that Halo Infinite had a huge budget and at least if it really had than it was a waste of money. Where did the money went to? New engine… nah, good narrative story… nah…
You can not cover the investments for real big budget games with a cheap subscription service - at least not when nearly every gamer in the world not uses this service.
Ms have the money to push this and take some financial risks, that’s true but they won’t make this for decades.
So far what you get since the Xbox one Plattform are just promises and announcements but without any huge results. They surely have some good games (Forza alone is beautiful) but that’s not enough. What did they tell about the power of the cloud due the Xbox One (years later where is it?) the huge power of the SX. It’s all a big marketing bubble but as a gamer you won’t get the chance to play a lot of great games but what you do is waiting.
Are you really going to argue with a game like Sea of thieves? It will be a good one for sure, but that’s one of your examples for this huge super duper Series platform? Come on.
Sony did a lot of bad stuff in the recent years as well and I’m happy to have some kind of competition but the whole Xbox Plattform is too weak unfortunately. They have to do what they did with the Xbox 360, that was such a fantastic gaming plattform.

Re: Reaction: PS Plus' PS5, PS4 Restart Is Welcome and Smart

Reeneman

@itsfoz I have mixed feelings in general with this topic. Sure as a gamer everybody wants to have access to all the great games to a price as low as possible. Otherwise with the Game Pass you clearly see how it can hurt big franchises. Halo Infinite should have been one of the top titles for the series console - at the end it was just a very average open world shooter and they needed months to fix some of its bugs.
Would you like to see that the quality of game like Horizon 2 or GT7 will be hurt due to cost savings because they have to be included in a subscription service?
I don’t want that. I easily spend 80-100 hours playtime with a game like horizon 2 and it’s fine to pay 50-70€ for such a game.
Sure Sony will include it in the new ps plus service one day, but there is no rush. They need to maintain the quality of their first party games. That’s what define the PlayStation.

Re: A Plague Tale: Requiem Brings Back Rats on 18th October for PS5

Reeneman

@DualWielding who wouldn’t be? Sure any great game included in a subscription service would be fine but sometime the quality will suffer from it as already seen with the large Microsoft games.
Nevertheless I understand it feels kind of expensive to buy games for PlayStation when they are otherwise included in the game pass.

Re: Gran Turismo 7 Patch 1.17 Adds Three Cars, a Track, and Menus

Reeneman

@Kidfunkadelic83 no not yet. Also a point that they hopefully add with one of the next updates.
The game itself offers nearly everything with its basics but they need to add these features:

Qualifying - not only rabbit races
Option to sell cars
More Singleplayer content
Better and more realistic AI
Fixes for net-Code
Weather forecast before races
