Re: Game of the Year: #4 - Ghost of Yotei

SleepyNick

@Psnfanboy79 I think, as people here have mentioned before, it is all to do with the longer dev cycle.

Back in the PS2 days Sucker Punch made Sly 1 in 2002 and by the time 2005 rolls round we have the whole sly trilogy. They were incremental changes just like Ghost but the games came quicker and the difference between Sly 1 and 3 is night and day.

Today, when Sucker Punch or whoever releases a game, it takes at least 5 years for the second game to come round and for a lot of people the incremental change in that time is not enough and maybe makes them feel underwhelmed with what they get.

Re: Game of the Year: #4 - Ghost of Yotei

SleepyNick

I guess just to follow up on my comment on #1 because its had a few replies now.

The other list might have 'just' been about the open world but isn't the open world aspect of an open world game pretty huge? It is to me anyway.

Half your time spent in an open world game will be traversing it, so is it fun to traverse (Just Cause)? Is it a challenge to traverse (Death Stranding)? Maybe the open world is a sand box full of distractions (Yakuza)? Or is the open world simply a pretty backdrop to look at while I press the 'horse' button and push the left stick forward until I get to my destination just to be greeted with a bamboo mini game that increments my stats?

Could call it just my preference, but telling me game x is a better open world game than game y and then telling me game y is better despite this? Doesn't compute for me.

Re: Game of the Year: #5 - Dispatch

SleepyNick

@MrStark

Well if you're going by critics, that means you won't be around for entry #4 to call it a stinker and repeat your comment that this is "one of the weakest lists ever" so that's good.

Fantastic username, bet you can't wait for Doomsday! Have a good night.

Re: Game of the Year: #5 - Dispatch

SleepyNick

@MrStark

No one will agree with you that a port of a 2021 game should qualify for 2025 GOTY but good luck with that.

Thank you for letting me know the Metacritic score for FH5, very nice.

That makes me assume you are using Metacritic to get ratings and in that case Indy has 86, Lumines is sitting at 87. Did you site hop for your information or are you looking at the user scores instead suddenly?

Run a poll here or anywhere on the internet and see if people think that Overwatch deserved the 2016 GOTY over the likes of Doom, Inside, Titanfall 2 or Uncharted 4. Are you seriously gonna tell me that Overwatch would win out? Overwatch had it's time and it was good while it lasted, I imagine the same will happen to Arc Raiders if that makes you happy?

Also, you keep appealing to Metacritic scores yet all you do here is dismiss critics opinions. Pick a lane!

Re: Game of the Year: #5 - Dispatch

SleepyNick

@MrStark To answer your question, no, there is not room for an ancient Xbox racer or a pedestrian Indiana Jones game everybody has forgotten about.

There is room for a popular kart racer that people are saying is better than MKW. There is room for a beloved puzzler getting the "Tetris Effect" treatment. And there is room for the most popular multiplayer release of the year by far.

You got one thing right though, Arc Raiders isn't Overwatch. Well observed.

Re: Sep 2025 USA Sales: Ghost of Yotei PS5 Boycott Fails, Sequel Sells 'Great'

SleepyNick

Since when did a few tweets and YouTube videos complaining about the character being a woman count as a boycott?

Yotei was bound to be a successful game, regardless of all the rubbish online about it.

I remember a game which did have a concerted effort to boycott it. Hogwarts Legacy. And on both the articles where you report sales numbers, first 12 million then 22 million, you fail to mention that this was despite a boycott. Very strange.

Pardon me if this is unconstructive feedback

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Ninja Gaiden 4?

SleepyNick

@Balaam_ So you have an alt account where you play all the games that have an actual challenging trophy list. Not a 'poorly designed' trophy list but a trophy list with difficulty related trophies in it which you might not be able to achieve, let's get that right.

The fact that you call the game/trophy list bad or poorly designed is just a coping method and you know it.

I guess the trophy list on your main account is a huge list of plats that anyone and their mother could achieve?

Re: PSN Among Dozens of Other Online Services Recovering from AWS Outage

SleepyNick

@McSavage I personally have never seen this group of gamers that want to kill off physical media, there are certainly none around here. I don't think even Steam users would be in favour of that.

You came in here and took a jab at people who prefer to buy digital and can't install their games during an outage (even though you wouldn't be able to properly install most physical games during an outage either). And someone jabbed back. You'll live.

Re: Marathon Maker Thinks Players Are Too Toxic for Proximity Chat in New PS5 Game

SleepyNick

Speaking from my experience of over 1000 hours on Hunt: Showdown, proximity chat is mostly fun and sometimes hilarious. The only times someone has been truly toxic towards me was when I queued with random team mates I've been properly yelled at for various silly reasons, it's mad.

My point here being is that Bungie won't implement prox chat because they think it will be too toxic yet you can still queue with random players that I assume will be able to use a mic. And you will eventually run into a team mate that will give you all sorts of abuse as soon as they perceive you to be playing the game wrong.

So if they are removing prox chat for that reason you probably ought to remove team chat as well, right?

Edit - Also, to add to what Nepp said, how about implement prox chat but make it clear to players that it can be muted. Or make it mute as a default so players have to actively opt in to it.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Now Surpasses 2 Million Players in Two Days

SleepyNick

@Wiceheid Fair enough, I wasn't aware Ubisoft had a subscription service where you can play their brand new games. Does make me wonder how many other players are aware that Ubi has a subscription service and how much that actually affects things.

I'm sure they're hoping to sell some copies! But of course, it would be great for them if people subscribe and forget to cancel even though they are not using it - just like my gym membership.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Romance Misinformation Hits New Low on Social Media

SleepyNick

lol okay I'll talk about the content of the article itself shall I, because I'm struggling to see any controversy. Let me get this straight - People are posting a romance scene between Yasuke and a non-binary person on social media which IS real and IS in the game, but you call this misinformation because they aren't explicitly saying that the scene is optional? Really? Calling that misinformation is pushing it don't you think?

I finished Dead Space recently and did the Nicole side mission. If I recorded the ending scene from that side mission and posted it to Youtube without explicitly explaining that it is optional content, would that be misinformation?

Having a quick browse of X I see the scene posted a few times, some are talking about how "woke" it is and some are just clowning on the scene because it is a bit cringe. So, I guess that is the real controversy here? (Even though this is just standard behaviour for people on X) But misinformation it is not.

Re: Intergalactic PS5's Toxic Detractors Peddling Patently Fake 'Leaked' Story Details

SleepyNick

"Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has attracted an unusual amount of animosity, forcing Naughty Dog to turn off comments on the trailer."

Naughty Dog had the comments turned off right from the start. What you are suggesting is that they had comments turned on and then got a lot of hate, so they were forced to turn comments off. This is not true. You can see it on the WayBackMachine.

Anyway back on topic. I agree, misinformation is a bad thing.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Spider-Man and Mario Trade Places in Battle for Top Spot

SleepyNick

@Sakai See, I don't really know if a 69% drop is bad. If spidey sold like 2.5 million units in the first weekend then selling 30% of that in the next weekend is fine isn't it? This is why the Japanese charts are better, you can see the actual number of units sold it tells a much clearer story.

As for the number 1 spot it would have been tough to predict it. Spiderman and Mario are both massive.

Edit - and as others have mentioned the Switch install base is bigger. Mario is also cheaper. You could get it for half the price of spidey if you shop around.

Re: TV Show Review: The Last of Us (HBO) Episode 8 - Streamlining Hollows Out Iconic Moments

SleepyNick

There is a bit of chatter here about how people who played the game are only disappointed because they want the TV show to be too much like the game, or even a one-to-one adaptation. And how those people shouldn't expect a one-to-one adaptation because TV works differently.

This is true, a TV adaptation of a game shouldn't be one-to-one, it should be adapted for TV and changes should be made where necessary. So I don't understand how episode 8 is being defended in this way because this episode WAS a one-to-one adaption from the game. It took all the cut scenes from the game and took away the "gameplay" bits. It made me feel like I was watching "David's greatest hits", like I may as well have been watching one of those YouTube videos which plays all the cutscenes in a row uninterrupted.

It isn't the action scenes being taken away that makes this episode disappointing. It's the fact that nothing was added to it.

Not like episodes 3/4/5 which are still my favourites. They took Sam & Henry's story and expanded on it over two episodes with extra characters/back story. It was very good! Why couldn't they do something similar for David? At least do something to build him up a bit more.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed episode 8 for what it was. Troy Baker was great.

The 40 minute~ runtime on the finale doesn't fill me with confidence though. Better get to that hospital sharpish! I feel like we might be skipping the Giraffes but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy (PS5) - A Harry Potter Dream Come True

SleepyNick

@Valgore Ah, so, if you had an issue you would contact them directly? Such as leaving a comment on the article? Well if that ever happens I wish you luck in not getting your comment removed.

Also, I personally don't care that they included this in the review. You mentioned on #180 that it shouldn't be discussed here, that is what I was responding to on #189.

Re: Hogwarts Legacy (PS5) - A Harry Potter Dream Come True

SleepyNick

@Valgore, Correct! This isn't the place to discuss such an issue. But when the opening paragraphs of the review (plus pinned comment) include opinions on the issue, you can't expect people not to respond.

If the review didn't include it, then no one (or very few) here would be talking about it. Just looking at the last couple of Hogwarts Legacy articles on PS and there is five removed comments out of 91.

Re: 350 PS5, PS4 Games Discounted in New PS Store Critics' Choice Sale

SleepyNick

Ya'll at PS need to start using the filter, there is not 350 games on sale unless you count shark cards and Sims add on packs as games. Go to filter and select "Full Game + Game Bundle" and it brings it down to 223 results and even then it shows multiple versions of the same game so it's probably less than 200 games.

Minor gripe but I can't help myself

Re: Oculus Founder Palmer Luckey 'Blown Away' by PSVR2

SleepyNick

@solocapers It's okay disagreeing with his political views but that isn't what this article is about. He has credentials in the VR space, and sure his views won't matter to most people but they could matter to enthusiasts. And its enthusiasts that use this website I assume! Push Square obviously thought people might be interested.

Also, no. No it isn't worthwhile highlighting what his sisters views are. Do you also look up the family members of Push Square staff just in case their siblings have conservative views?

Re: Where to Watch The Last of Us TV Show

SleepyNick

Yep, NowTV is pathetic. £10 for 720p and an extra £5 on top of that if you want a whopping 1080p!

The deal between HBO and Sky expires in 2025, hopefully it doesn't get renewed and the UK can have HBO max like the rest of the world in time for season 2 of TLOU.

Re: Earn 100 PS Stars Points Just for Playing PS Plus Games

SleepyNick

Yeah I don't know why people are saying it isn't worth checking out when you get free store credit with no drawback. The other bits like the levels and digital trinkets are kinda whatever.

I got my first £5 store credit yesterday. Most of the points came from buying PS plus extra on black Friday which left me on 1200 points, but the fact that I could push that over to 1250 just by playing a game I was planning to play anyway is really nice.

Big recommend on The Messenger btw

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Essential Games for December 2022?

SleepyNick

@nhSnork I don't see how it's a contradiction. ME is the best game on the list for sure but it is still a 10 year old trilogy in 4k, it isn't a remake like demon's souls or TLOUP1. Never claimed that "everyone who is anyone" has played ME. You are right, not everyone has played ME trilogy but a hell of a lot more people have played ME than say... literally any other game that came out in the last few years that isn't a re-release. I'm not asking for brand new games on the service.

There are lots of games to pick from the last few years, plenty of which aren't re-releases.
