Re: PS5 Maker Faces Lawsuit Over So-Called 'Sony Tax' on Digital Games

Strafio

@ChrisDeku the point you seem to be missing is that we had a whole generation where physical copies were sold alongside digital ones, and the digital store prices were often 10-20% higher, even though there's fewer overheads compared to physical distribution.

If it wasn't retailer competition making the physical games cost less, then what was it?

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Hi-Fi Rush?

@Amnesiac the animations don't keep in time to the beat. I find myself treating it more like putting in a code to the beat, and then watching the resulting attack animations play out.

@RBRTMNZ I found myself terrible at first and it turned out my sound bar had a slight delay, throwing me off.

Once I turned off the sound bar and used the TV speakers, I found it much easier to hit the beat.

Re: Sony Under Fire for Allegedly Abusing Its Dominance in the Industry

Strafio

I'm surprised that we're not seeing this from more competion authorities.

It's an anti-competitive practice that has pushed games retailers out of digital market and led to digital games costing more than physical games, despite the reduced overheads.

New game prices in the UK are especially ridiculous. I barely buy new games anymore - I generally just wait for them to appear on PS Plus now.

Re: PS Plus Premium More Popular Than Extra, 30% of Subscribers Upgraded

Strafio

I'm having a great time with Extra, with most of the AAA titles from the first two years on there, as well as some pretty cool indies like Stray and Humanity.

Premium doesn't offer anything that I'm looking for. I get the feeling Sony only intended it for the enthusiasts who care enough about retro games, so they at least have an option.

Re: MultiVersus Is Free-to-Play, But Its Founder's Packs Will Make Your Eyes Water

Strafio

I think it's a good balance.
Just 5 years ago, the norm was to have an upfront price for a game like this, but multiplayer games have to go FTP nowadays in order to maximise playerbase.

This allows those interested in the game to get all the basics for a reasonable price, while also allowing those only slightly interested to try it out free of charge.

Importantly, they're keeping upgrades/perks/abilities separate from monetisation, which prevents it being pay to win.

Given developers need to make money somehow, this is seems to be the least toxic way to do it. Can someone suggest a better way?

Re: First Photo of PSVR2 in the Flesh Emerges

I'll be getting a VR headset this year. A few months ago I played on my brother's Quest 2 headset and it blew me away. The hand controls in particular were very impressive and changed the way I thought about VR gaming.

I think this generation will pull more people into VR than before.

The only question for me now is whether to get Quest 2 or PSVR2. Decisions!!

Re: Poll: Does Sony Need to Take Action After Microsoft's Activision Buyout?

Strafio

@Shepherd_Tallon I agree that for Activision and Bethesda, the buyout was almost like a rescue. We're now more optimistic about future titles of the IPs from those studios.

For that reason, I'd kind of like to see Sony take Konami. It has a fair number of classic IPs that could use rescuing.

Sony generally prefers to buy talent rather than IPs, so probably won't happen. Nice thought though.

Re: Sony Responds to Activision Blizzard Buyout, Expects Games to Still Come to PS5, PS4

Strafio

The good news is that Sony have time to work out a response. This deal has been announced, but has to go through all sorts legal hurdles before its finalised and MS takes control, and even once that happens they'll honour existing deals.

Sony will still get the 2022 CoD and can possibly secure the 2023 one too, which will give them up to 2024 to develop a competitor.

Ghost of Tsushima managed to be a better Assassin's Creed game than Assassins Creed. I expect Sony have the talent to create a superior CoD.

@K-Wud it's their way of reserving stock for dedicated customers.

The ones eligible for it get a £2,000 discount applied at checkout, so in the end they pay the normal price.

Uneligible customers who try to buy it for the £2500 price have their order cancelled and refunded.
