Re: Spider-Man Gameplay Shared in New Marvel's Avengers Hands On

SwitchVogel

Really feels like there was no winning with this addition. The Insomniac games set such a high bar for Spider-Man gameplay and combat, and it was never going to be possible for CD to avoid comparisons.

Sounds like they really phoned it in for this expansion though, as if it wasn't already abundantly obvious that the team is ready to put this whole debacle behind them.

Re: Returnal Update 2.0 Finally Lets You Suspend Your Run

SwitchVogel

I don't get why this was such a big deal to some people. I've seen all this talk online about runs taking 2-3 hours, but most of my runs were 30-45 minutes. Sure, there's room for exploration, but not that much. What are people doing that's padding their runs so much?

Re: Reaction: E3 Is a Relic Desperately Clinging to Relevancy

SwitchVogel

I agree, though I wish I didn't. It's nice to have a week in the summer where you know there's going to be at least a few really interesting new reveals. Sure, big reveals come all through the year, but there's never a way of knowing when the next one will be.

Still, I barely followed what happened with E3 this year, and the Nintendo Direct was the only presentation I bothered to watch live. It feels very much to me like E3 is a solution to a problem that's already been solved in the past decade, and that problem was the disconnect between game companies and their audiences.

Re: Talking Point: Did Sony Lie About PS5?

SwitchVogel

I think this is a bit overblown. PS5 is definitely more powerful, but saying that a cross-gen game is being "held back" by the older hardware feels misleading. Not only is the gulf between PS5 and PS4 smaller than between PS4 and PS3, but I seriously doubt that something like Horizon Forbidden West would have ever been designed in a way that's literally impossible to run on PS4.

Now that doesn't mean it'll run well on PS4 when it comes, and I'm sure the load times there will be much worse, but let's not pretend like it's going to be some massively innovative release that could only be realized on next gen hardware. It's another open world action game, and it'll do most of the things that open world action games on the PS4 already do, just shinier and faster.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Still in Talks with Sony Over PlayStation Store Return

SwitchVogel

@Amnesiac I think the long term ramifications are still pretty mean, though. Think about it, how many major game companies have gotten the embarrassing honor of getting one of their games kicked off a major platform for quality reasons?

While it's true they've made a lot on this game, they've now had five months of losses on a potential revenue stream. More importantly, their torpedoed reputation will affect how the public reacts to whatever their next game is, and I'd wager that's where we'll see the effects of this disastrous launch.

Re: Marvel's Avengers' Red Room Takeover Prepares You for Black Widow

SwitchVogel

@nessisonett Yeah, my issue with it is that this movie feels like it's releasing six years too late. More importantly, it feels weird that they're setting this 'prequel' in the recent past and not in her pre-Avenger days when she was more of an anti-hero, which I think would be much more interesting. I'm sure it'll be entertaining, but we already know how her story ends and I don't see it adding much more to the lore other than setting up her sister to replace her later.

Re: Sony Asking Suppliers to Increase PS5 Stock Production

SwitchVogel

In my mind, the PS5 still hasn't really come out yet. Sure, some people could buy it starting in November, but I view the rest of this year and the next as a sort of 'early access' period before the generation properly kicks off. When almost all games are still cross-gen and exclusive projects mostly have vaguely defined release windows, I see little reason to take the leap to a new console.

Re: PS5 Stock Problems to Persist as Semiconductor Shortages Continue

SwitchVogel

Wow, I was hoping I could get one by April, but maybe that's not realistic now. The upside is that there still isn't much must-have software on the PS5 yet. I still don't feel that I'm really missing out on anything yet, but I'm gonna be salty if these things still aren't on shelves when HZD 2 and ratchet and clank are out!

Re: Soapbox: I Think I Like Battle Passes, But They Do Stress Me Out a Bit

SwitchVogel

Your point about the perceived 'pressure' to reach tier 100 is exactly why I've personally never been able to get into these. Same reason I've never subscribed to any MMO's.

The way I see it, the time I spend gaming is supposed to be something done at my leisure, something that I do because I feel like it on that particular day. A battle pass or subscription turns at least some of my game time into yet another task for the day because I 'have' to play that game or I'm wasting the money I spent on it.

Re: Cost of Fixing Cyberpunk 2077 Irrelevant, Says CD Projekt RED

SwitchVogel

It's 'irrelevant' only because their company seriously depends on this game doing well. This is their first major release in over five years, and yet they couldn't be bothered to make a good first impression with it. If they didn't fix it, I can't imagine there being anywhere near as much hype for their next big release. Even if they do fix it, I think they've forever lost that 'good guy' reputation they had before.
