Re: Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut Is Superb, But Sony Shouldn't Be Charging Extra for PS5 Upgrade

bpomber

@get2sammyb 100% Sony can give PS5 upgrades for free. In my opinion that doesn't mean they should.

The thought in life of "others do it this way so I should too" has never made sense to me, and it's the same in this situation. Where's the innovation in that type of thinking? Who knows, maybe Sony will be using the extra profit from the $10 upgrade to invest in more outstanding exclusives in the future, which will provide the consumer with more great content and set them apart from their competition. That would be a luxury that their competition doesn't have because they gave away upgrades for free.

I think most people on this site will agree that Sony puts out more quality exclusives than any other company. I would think Sony's resources that are allowing them to continue to put out great content are a result of their business practices, such as the one in question here.

It's the consumer's right to not purchase something if they see no value in it, just as much as it's the company's right to charge for their product.

I very much disagree. Paying $10 for a PS5 upgrade is more than reasonable. The upgrade doesn't just happen with the click of a button. Real people do real work and get paid real money to make the upgrade possible. The upgrade costs time and money.

Why do people feel so entitled that they should get the upgrade for free just because they previously bought the original version?

Re: Poll: Should Sony Do More PS5 Director's Cuts?

bpomber

@ShadowofSparta which is why I started off my comment by saying I don't mind paying for things that I like.
I don't like AC Valhalla so I wouldn't pay anything for an upgrade or director's cut for that game. But for a game like Ghost of Tsushima that I really like, I will gladly pay for more of it. Especially since the value is better than that of seeing a movie.
It's a mix of quantity and quality. Seeing a movie that I like in theatres has a higher cost of entertainment per hour than buying and playing a game that I like.

I'm fine with paying for upgrades on games and director's cuts and things like that. I have no problem paying and supporting the developers of games that I like.

Plus I look at it this way: I'm paying $40 (Canadian) for the Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut which has an additional ~15 hours of content. That equals to $2.66 per hour for the price of entertainment.
If I went to a movie theatre it's $10 for a two hour movie. That's $5 per hour for the price of entertainment.
So really, video games are a cheaper form of entertainment when the amount of content is considered.

There's good and bad this month.

A Plague Tale Innocence is amazing and I can't wait to play it again on PS5 this time!

I'm a grown man who likes WWE (I know that's weird) but WWE 2K Battlegrounds is a pretty bad game.

Call of Duty I just don't care about, personally.

Re: Poll: Will You Be Buying Returnal?

The amount of people who rely on reviews always surprises me. Reviews are very subjective.
Just because the reviewer doesn't like it, doesn't mean you won't, or vice versa.
There's plenty of games that review poorly that I like, and plenty of games that review well that I don't like.

Re: Biomutant Provides Atmospheric Look at Its Open World

@TraCuz- Yeah Best Buy had it up for pre-order shortly after it was revealed in 2017. If I remember correctly, it was supposed to come out in 2018 initially. Then it just kept getting pushed back and it seemed like it was in development hell. So I'm happy that the release date is finally near.

Re: Hands On: PS5's External Storage Feature Offers Speedy Solution to Launch Fears

bpomber

That's useful but it's a long transfer time. If you're lucky enough to have good internet with no data cap then you can download games in less time than it takes to transfer. Downloading Spider-Man Remastered, for example, takes me about 10 minutes. I'd just re-download the game rather than dealing with transferring from external to internal hard drives in my situation.

Me and a friend spent quite a bit of time with the beta and we enjoyed it so much! It's a day 1 purchase for us.

I'm hoping it'll be announced as a free PS+ game at launch though. Sony has been doing that recently with other games like Destruction Allstars, Worms Rumble, Oddowlrd, etc. So there is a chance!

Re: Feature: Our Most Anticipated PS5, PS4 Games of 2021

@Logonogo I'm being very optimistic with a few games on my 2021 anticipated list, Biomutant being one of them. I agree that it's most likely in development hell. I've had the game pre-ordered for years now. The dev has pretty much just stopped giving any updates on it. Which is unfortunate because Biomutant looks really promising.
