Re: Poll: Did You Buy a PS4 Pro?

finalstan

@Fight_Teza_Fight I feel Sony needs to be careful how they manage this now that they've set a precedent. It's one thing doing a mid-way upgrade when no one was expecting one when PS4 launched, and another when PS5 launches and people may be holding onto their PS4s (and Pros) for longer waiting for a mid-way upgrade. I, for one, can easily see myself catching up on all those games I will miss for years to come, patiently waiting for a PS5 Pro to come out. I think this may draw out the overlap of generations to a greater degree.

Re: Hardware Review: PS4 Pro - Should You Buy It?

finalstan

Went to GAME this morning to do a trade-in. They couldn't test my console as needed more people (will happen later) but it's important to know that factory reset is not enough, you need to log out and then do it. Once they get round to testing it they will give me a ring to give them the password to my account (sic!) so that they can do it. Thought someone could find it helpful.

Of course, this means another trip to the store later as I haven't got the console.

Re: Review: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Special Edition (PS4)

finalstan

I want to get this at some point but am struggling to see the appeal of the game. Open world, which I am not keen on, not great combat and quest structure. However, varied builds and streamlined experience is what I like, which sounds different to Witcher 3, which I've been struggling with whilst wanting to love it.

Re: Hands On: Quit Bitchin'! PS4 Pro Is a Big, Beautiful Step Forward

finalstan

As a PS4 Pro convert, I kind of want the games to work very well on the base PS4 - for all those other gamers, of course, but to absolutely guarantee that my game will run smoothly, with or without the bells and whistles etc., which is my main reason for getting one. Jittery FFXV will just not cut it, it needs to be super smooth and as beautiful as can be (admittedly, 'only' on a good HDTV). I will see how I go and decide later whether to add PSVR and/or 4K+HDR TV t the set.

Re: UK Retailer GAME Wants to Charge You to Demo PlayStation VR

Went there just today to pre-order PS4 Pro, which you have to do for the trade-in deal. It was absolutely packed (B'ham), with long queues etc. It must be doing something right. Apart from that, never had a need to set foot in there.

To be honest, I would pay for the demo! If that's the only way for me to experience VR before spending XYZ amount of money for the whole kit, I would be happy to oblige.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo Switch Knocks the Final Nail in PS Vita's Coffin

finalstan

The problem with Vita was console-level pricing whilst being an indie games haven. No problem with either, but something's got to give in a given scenario. If the market also happens to be smaller then you really need to get it right. If there's a company that can do it, it's Nintendo (why? The games!), and despite not being a fan I am interested in this, if only to get another Xenoblade.

Re: Hardware Review: PlayStation VR - The Future of Play

finalstan

I am close to being on the fence with this but for now I am firmly over the 'not for me' side. I'd had a preorder but cancelled long time ago and this review is not giving me confidence that I should shell out this amount of cash for a VR experience yet. I think I'll wait for a revision by which point more games will be available that may grab my interest, not tech demos regardless of how great they may be.

Re: No Man's Sky Being Investigated By Advertising Standards for Misrepresentation

finalstan

If I saw space battles in a trailer and bought the game for that, because I happen to love that kind of thing, I would be pretty angry at not being able to experience that in the final product. Of course you don't buy a game for one gameplay mechanic only, but you may buy it over another game due to that one element, it affects your decision making when comparing etc. and we all do it all the time.

Re: Feature: PlayStation Now Review - The State of Cloud Gaming in 2016

finalstan

I think this is a fine idea, but the problem with FFXIII highlights the issue I have with it: where are the games I actually want to play? All the good ones will be remastered so are less (or un-) likely to appear in their original guise. This, coupled with truly excellent current generation of games makes for a hard sell. I don't know a gamer who wouldn't have a huge backlog of games; this is a generation of backlogs (Pushsquare should do an article on that).

Re: Get Over the Final Fantasy XV Delay with 50 Whole Minutes of Gameplay

finalstan

You gotta love the comments: "there's something very wrong with FFXV but I can't really put my finger on it". I get it, it's been 10 years in the making. Yes, the game will not be perfect. No game is. The majority of those who waited a long time for this game are of a certain age; are there any truly mind-blowing games these days? We're past that stage I think (of maturity, I daresay), expecting it from this game is just setting yourself up for a huge dissapointment.
Personally, I like what I see with FFXV, it has the elements of games I enjoy so will enjoy this one, but it won't blow me away: games don't do that for me these days (although summoning Ramuh in the Duscae demo came damn close!).

Re: Final Fantasy XV Buckles Up Until 29th November on PS4

finalstan

Hmm, I am on long holidays in December so am now thinking of not actually playing it until I'm back in January. That way patches will have been deployed and I will make the most of the delay. Don't really want to start it, get into it and then have a long break!

Re: Feature: 5 PS4K Neo Reveals Sony Must Make at PlayStation Meeting 2016

finalstan

I am hoping to see some kind of trade in arrangement, where it will be possible to replace the old PS4 with new for a reduced price. The market will be flooded with second-hand models making buying new old models harder, so that could help Sony control the negative trend somewhat. On the the other hand, what would they do with all the old PS4s collected that way?

Re: A New PS Vita Is on the Way? Don't Believe Everything You Read

finalstan

And I think it would actually make sense. Why? Sony rules this generation gaming-wise; They'd had a very successful handheld, and then the Vita, which was marketed all wrong (high-end gaming on the go, which just didn't sell, people need games to jump in and out of on the go) but hardly a TOTAL flop. Putting these things together, lessons learned if you like, they are in a great position to release another handheld. I think they will do something, eventually.
