@AverageGamer soft disagree as WW2 had one of the best COD campaign in years, and I'd take Advanced Warfare over Black Ops 3 or Infinite Warfare.
Sledgehammer have done good campaigns, Vanguard was likely lost between the big hitters of MW and Cold War, while MW3 had to rely on using Warzone maps due to time constraints
@AverageGamer it's an odd situation because Sledgehammer only had less than two years to put out Modern Warfare 3 after Vanguard, and was definitely rushed by the publisher when it was planned to be a DLC
Raven developed the campaign for Black Ops 6, and its the best campaign in years. That makes my prediction 2025's COD will be Treyarch again with "more of the same" multiplayer from Black Ops 6 but a new campaign that they've made tthemselves.
@TheArt @Ilyn Elden Ring and Dark Souls are definitely both evergreen. I'd throw Demon's Souls and Bloodborne as the "cult classics". I know several people personally who tell me "I've started another playthrough of Elden Ring", or have tried to perfect their Dark Souls run.
Bloodborne could join that list if it had a PC release and a performance patch for PS5, of course.
As Dragon Age Origins and Inquisition have shown before, the series is evergreen with the likes of Skyrim and The Witcher. It's something that people will buy for a long time to come, and because it's single player won't be reliant on short term server lifecycle.
For something for comparison, I'd love someone to look into the lifetime sales of Dragon Age Origins and how many sold in the first week or month. It became a hit over time.
I've always thought it slightly entertaining how large the fan outcry was for Shenmue 3 for years, and then after it was released, barely any mention of Shenmue since.
Imagine if Half-Life 3 was finally revealed and released and caused the entire community to never speak of any Half-Life game again
@wiiware @amatmulisha maybe it's not so much the work Reggie done on a particular game but innovation he done for marketing, like the creation of the Nintendo Direct.
Either way, the rest of those names definitely created and designed some influential games.
@Rich33 Hey Rich. How are you doing, what you playing this weekend? Always nice to see you around on here.
So, if i have a 120Hz TV, i should be able to get above the capped 60fps on games that support the Pro? Im hoping we see consistent higher performance on PS6. While I won't be getting the Pro, I'm keeping a close eye on it as if it does well enough, it'll be the difference maker of whether I get a PS6 on launch or wait until the cross gen releases dry up
They always seem to emphasise, resolution. Id happily accept a pro console outputting 1080p if it could run a consistent locked 120fps. I know its an enthusiast console, but 8K TVs are also an enthusiast TV due to the size required to really benefit from the dots per inch.
@nessisonett Keep at it Ness. Get yourself on Linkedin if you aren't already. Opportunities are competitive, but you'll get there eventually and make use of that degree
@Rich33 @ATaco let me rephrase haha. (Might edit my original comment too). While not necessarily a big time investment for the "review bomb", they still care too much about something inconsequential in the grand scheme
Something I learned back during my uni course: every time a major game studio closes and people splinter off into smaller indies, there's always a high percentage of talented people that exit the games industry from either being disillusioned by the experience or being unable to find their next role within a year
@LikelySatan yeah and if you're coding in the AAA space, it'll literally be something like your role would be to program the wheel-to-road grip for all the cars in Forza or Need for Speed, and nothing else in the game
This past week I beat both Black Ops 6 and Sonic X Shadow Generations, so this weekend I'm getting some use out of the PS Plus catalog investment by playing The Plucky Squire
On one hand, games industry jobs are highly sought after so they're in a great position, whether on-site or not.
But on the other, an office mandate feels like a way of policing or having eyes on a workforce, which can be done remotely, if even required. Having worked remotely and on site myself, my own stance is that as long as the work is completed on time and in full, location or shift pattern isn't important.
@ThroughTheIris56 i can't personally count for Team Gravity, but you may be glad to hear that Team Ico of The Last Guardian spun out into "genDesign" before Japan Studio closed. GenDesign are still around and working on something new.
If anything, the fact that Rift Apart was revolutionary in the performance capability for PS5 only builds my concern that developers will use the existence of the PS5 Pro to optimise less than many already do, and the full power of the base PS5 will still go unrealised.
@B_Lindz by all means, I don't agree that its worth the price either, but was just acknowledging that he did state himself that he knows it won't be affordable for many.
These millionaires view video games as a luxury and would probably shrug at us and say that this console isn't for us if we can't afford it. Similar case when Don Mattrick said Xbox players without an internet connection should stick with the 360 instead of buying the Xbox One. They justify it as it being aimed at a different audience from us (whether that audience actually exists or not is another thing)
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare PS generally have a good market share in the UK, but the majority of players are still buying PS4 versions of software. I think with games starting to drop support for last gen, Sony will try push the PS5 Pro towards people as a better upgrade than if they were to move to the PS5 now. (PS4 Pro and Slim done better than the OG model here)
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare I'm in the same boat, I will "sadly" be missing out on PS5 Pro and keeping the money aside for a PS6 when the time comes. Buying the Pro at that price (regardless of benefits) feels worse than double-dipping, especially when there isn't a selection of games "Only playable on PS5 Pro".
@B_Lindz in the quote, he does acknowledge it won't be affordable for everyone, but just that the console is worth the price of admission, essentially.
This analysis is 100% based on the trends and comparison with the PS4 Pro.
However, the economic climate is different from 2016, so they cant assume that a 40% price hike over PS5 for a Pro will do similar performance as a 33% hike over a significantly cheaper PS4.
Ontop of this, the PS4 Pro launched at the price the PS4 launched at pre-price cut. The PS5 has not only been shy of a price cut, but has increased in price during its lifetime.
Going with my own individual experience as well, I own two PS4 Pros in addition to my base PS5, and have no intention to upgrade to a PS5 Pro. I'm confident there will be a large portion of PS4 Pro purchasers who wouldn't fork out for the PS5 Pro for the little benefit it has over a standard PS5. (Especially if, like myself, they've bought and installed a 2TB M.2 drive into their launch PS5 already)
While I'm not this dedicated myself, I've got to give them credit where its due. They formed a bond with like-minded people over a shared passion.
Regardless of what it means for the grand scheme of things, this trophy and this experience means something to these people and they've probably created a memory and story that will last with them, even if we don't all understand or appreciate it ourselves.
Regardless of when a single player game is updated with new content post-release, it isnt live service as you don't need to log into an online service and have an active connection in order to play it.

Re: Peerless RPG Baldur's Gate 3 Has More Players Now Than at Launch
It'll likely be an evergreen title now that people will go back to like Skyrim, The Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
There's always the patient gamers too that will pick this one up because it isn't part of an annualised franchise

Casualties of the modern approach of "I'll wait until its on Game Pass/PS Plus", at least for me.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden looks good and is on my wishlist, and I've been playing Dontnod games since Remember Me (ironically also via PS Plus).

Re: Soapbox: Astro's Playroom PS5 Did Live Service and You Didn't Even Notice
@get2sammyb You don't have to have an active (live) connection (to a service) to play many of those games you've used as examples.
If anything, these games are just games with downloadable updates, online features, or (at a stretch) "live service" elements.
Re: Soapbox: Astro's Playroom PS5 Did Live Service and You Didn't Even Notice
Regardless of when a single player game is updated with new content post-release, it isnt live service as you don't need to log into an online service and have an active connection in order to play it.
A nice attempt at bait though.
