Re: Guide: Four Resident Evil 7 Tips Which May Save Your Ass

AhabSpampurse

@Darkpoet67 I'm with you. I used to love me a good horror game back in the day, but by the time I get home from work these days, the last thing I want to do is play a heightened terror simulator. Alien Isolation took me months to finish, because whilst it may be brown trousers time, getting scared and stressed to this extent is hardly fun.

I'll probably give it a go at some point, but I'm certainly not running out the door to pay for that experience of being perpetually terrified...

Went back into it post patch; heaps better. Far more enjoyable and fun. I'd be lucky if I managed to get halfway through a short/easy campaign on solo, and I damn near reached the volcano tonight on my first go.

I thought it was pretty telling it was too hard based on the trophy unlocks, which were ridiculously low percentages almost across the board.

I've got a heap of launch titles, but I've easily spent the most time with this. Absolutely fantastic, and when getting into "the zone" with VR it's borderline hypnotic. Get a good pair of earphones and it's a mind bending assault. Love it.

@Galvatron "I have no doubt PSVR, as a first on mainstream consoles, will be fiddly and have embryonic issues such as the cabling, stutters etc - but if it's evident there is much joy in the immersion factor, why feel the need to trample on it?"

This. I tend to give new tech a bit of leeway at launch and was happy to do so in this instance, but I took absolutely no positives from his review, as any that were mentioned were small and largely overwhelmed by the negative tone.

And cheers for commenting @get2sammyb, you've reassured me that there's definitely some positives there to enjoy. I'll just make sure my expectations are suitably managed.

@JoeBlogs I do and it does. I've always had a soft spot for Nintendo stuff from my younger days. If you've ever got a spare £200-£300 lying around they're fairly easy to get from eBay

I'll have to check that episode out!

@JoeBlogs I do, kind of, which is where I had a fiddle with the Rift. Sod it. You only live once. Even if it ends up being a disaster it'll probably be a collectors item in 20 years like my Virtual Boy is now!

It's weird, because the reviews I'm seeing for both the games and the hardware seem to be predominantly positive, however there are some websites (kotaku for instance) who feel the PSVR is essentially broken. They referred to it as an "island for Sony's misfit toys."

I'm really excited for the launch next week, but it is unusual to see numerous writers giving it high praise, and a minority of others stating it's a waste of money and time. Normally I would just form my own opinion, but the admission price to do that in this instance is quite high.

@aric201812 yeah, I gave it a shake. To be fair to Oculus they provide a plethora of lens caps and other gubbins that you can pop in the headset, to help accommodate the visually challenged like myself. Unfortunately my eyes are a bit odd (an astigmatism in one eye plus short sightedness, and long sighted in the other), so wearing the headset without my glasses or even with the wonder-lenses that Oculus provide still proved a no go as everything was too blurry. This is why I've thought ahead and will give contacts a try.

It's not uncomfortable to wear a headset with glasses, it's just irritating when my lenses keep steaming up. Saying that I've also considered using motorcycle visor wipes on my specs for VR sessions, which are purposefully designed to prevent steaming in the materials. The point is, I'm prepared

@Pinkman yeah, I was initially looking at these 4K Hisense sets as they were affordable and apparently good value for money. That was only £450. I noticed just before completing the purchase though that HDR was missing from it, so I dodged a bullet there!

I've been meaning to get a new TV for years now. Panasonic have got a swish 4K UHD set of 50 odd inches for about 600. I might treat myself to that and a Pro next bonus pay day in March 2017. I get that this product is quite niché, but I don't have many other hobbies so why shouldn't I indulge?
