Re: Poll: How Would You Rate The Last of Us - Episode 2?

@shuvamg009
Felt the same way with Ellie, I think they are leaning a bit too much on her cursing. Her abrasion sometimes feels unnecessary like when she was talking to Joel or rather Joel was trying to have small talk. Yeah, in the game she did curse and had character but never did I feel she was being mean to Joel even when they first met.

I actually loved everything but the changed Tess' death. I believe the original gave her more agency and "badassness" to her death rather than this one. Didn't like that gross Tess kiss thingy, I think the grossness just detracts from what should have been her badass sacrifice. In fact, up until this point in the show, we have not seen any badass scene or coldness scene from Tess to establish she is a hardened no-nonsense woman.

I think the scene wants to focus more on the infection/fungus rather than giving that last bit of characterization to Tess. So the scene essentially becomes more about “look how gross we can get with the show” rather than “damn, she was a pretty cool character”. I see more discussion about the grossness and fungus and it just happens that Tess was a victim of it, highlight on victim as opposed to the game’s emphasize on tragic/heroic sacrifice.

In the game, we had Robert's scene, where she was like "ok bye" and just sraight up shot him dead, but since this scene was deleted in the show, then we haven't really established Tess as some sort of ani-heroe/badass woman. I mean, the firs scene we see her, she is actually being beaten up for info (ironically, switching places with Robert from the video game). So, her only chance to prove she is some sort of badass heroine is going out with some badass sacrifice. Not a scene, where the directors want to emphasize more on what the fungus can do/new rules, rather than establish Tess as a character. Not only that, but I think it kind of makes no sense now for her death (aside that she is kind of fckd now from the bite), because when we see Joel and Ellie outside, she hasn't really done anything to stop the horde, besides just standing there in horror. When the lighter does work, that's when they are outside and with quite the running advantage to hide.

I did like that she bonds more with Ellie with this one than the other one.

Oof that was long sorry guys lol

@somnambulance Oh can’t say anything about XC3 since I haven’t played it yet, but I did play XC on the 3DS and it deflated my interest in playing the other ones. 100 hours just beating the main story and barely sidetracking with optional stuff. The gameplay was pretty cool, don’t know if the third one is different. But the main story I thought got so convoluted. Even worse, I couldn’t care about the main characters at all. They weren’t annoying or anything but for some reason their chemistry and individual stuff was just meh. The dialogue didn’t help either lol.

If you have PS Plus Extra, Elex I is free and I doubt it is any different from the second one, but I have yet to play that one too. Although it would help if don’t be want to be super lost in the story. Elex ii is not to expensive either though it’s going around 20/30.
As for Relayer there is demo on US PSN if you want try it out first.

@Loftimus
Oh yeah, the game is quite slow-paced and I can see how it’s very hand-raily gameplay mechanic/linearity can detract others from ever want to replay it.
Never played Blood Bowl and surprised it is already going for its third installment! Gonna make some time to play the other ones before the third one comes out!

Happy New Year guys!
Hope you find this list interesting and motivates you to try new things, both with video games and the real world d:
This definitely was the year to broaden my horizons and see what else is in store. There is still a few 2022 gems I would have liked to try out and maybe this would have changed my list a little (looking at you Trails from Zero xD), but otherwise, I am super happy with what I was able to play after a taking a brief hiatus in video games for around 2/3 years.

I am curious.
What game(s) do you guys weirdly love despite knowing it is mediocre in some aspect (story, gameplay, etc…)? A game where perhaps it doesn’t deserve your time, but yet, you give it out anyways?

Looking forward for 2023 as it looks as if it is going to pack quite a punch! Just look at the lineup!

Re: Game of the Year: Top 10 PS5, PS4 Soundtracks of 2022

Michelle Zauner really captured exploring Sable's peaceful yet solemn open desert with an aura of wonder mystery.

@matej Curiously, unbeknown he already had multiple projects under his belt, Bear McCreary got into my radar with the Walking Dead. If you haven't watched it or are not familiarized and don't care about spoilers, watch Season 11 Episode 9 clip: Maggie takes her revenge. It's not a long track, but that track is lit.
Unfortunately, he has not released his soundtracks like other of his projects yet. and I am guessing in part because of AMC ownership/licensing.

Pretty cool list and it’s nice to see retro having some love. Although I don’t have the nostalgia factor with them (since I wasn’t even born when they came out xD), but I have been looking back to trying out all these little gems from the past. These collections (Reverie/TMNT/Capcom Arcade) make it super accesible.

Re: Biggest, Most Expansive Tomb Raider to Be Published by Amazon Games on PS5

AnnetteM

I really think this is it for the developers to make this current Lara embrace her past. She has far too long be overshadowed by Uncharted and potentially the new Indy game.
If anything this will act as another soft reboot after 10 years since the first.
The reboot was first introduction to the series and while I really like this iteration(up until Shadow) I can definitely see her personality more and uniqueness shine in the original iterations.

Heck, embrace the slender and athleticism of the old. I really don’t see why some women in gaming are being stripped away from their femininity.
Of course, not saying she should go back and have pointy boobs lol. But also don’t make her bulky if she is more of a gymnast or prohibit her from clothing such as short shorts even if she is in a goddam hot jungle.
I see this trend a lot (looking at you Horizon and Last of Us Part II..)

Anyways, this went into a min rant lol. Really looking forward for this soft reboot though. Oh yeah and get in more elaborate puzzles and tombs in the main story.

Re: Mini Review: Sam & Max Save the World Remastered (PS4) - A Classic with a Modern Touch

AnnetteM

@pip_muzz Understandable why they made the decision, considering the political and social landscape we are in right now. As such, I also became aware of some jokes/lines that they changed, but even then it is so minimal it does not detract from the experience. With this point in mind, it is nice that they decided to keep the original versions as DLC on PC and separate in the console versions because, like they mention in their website, it allows for historical preservation. However, I do agree with the unnecessary point you mentioned. At least they did not recast the entire cast like with the FFVII Remake (looking at you Zack Fair). In that case, it would be hard to let it pass by.

Re: Mini Review: Sam & Max Save the World Remastered (PS4) - A Classic with a Modern Touch

AnnetteM

@jacko11 I am referring to some jokes/references being old, for example referencing celebrities who were perhaps more relevant in that time and therefore I think the joke would land more during that time than nowadays.

@pip_muzz Sorry if it didn’t come across clearly. I know some people have had problems with the voice change, but I didn’t find it bothersome, even less so to make it a negative.

@boldandbrash it’s humor and boldness is actually one of things that I love about this series. So when I mean outdated I am not taking it points off because I find it too offensive. In fact, I think it is a type of comedy that is greatly missed today, or is rather a bit too sparse. Although I can also see why people would take them offensively, it borders a thin ice haha.

Re: Hands On: Valkyrie Elysium May Well Be a Pleasant Surprise

AnnetteM

Never played a Valkyrie game but I did play FFXIII-2 and a lot of its concepts bled into Lightning’s story which was one of the most interesting additions for me to the FFXIII lore. So this should be up my alley, gonna definitely try the demo either tonight or tomorrow.
