Re: Review: Final Fantasy XV: Comrades (PS4)

Berto_Gamut

lol, I'm actually enjoying this more than the main FFXV game. Everything is weakened by the leveling structure though, it could use less quest grinding and more enemy variety. Kinda hope they expand on this a lot more, connecting the glaives from Kingsglaive to the hunters we meet in FFXV is a fun idea and hopefully not thrown away.

I'm playing on a OneS though, loading times were about the same as using the fast travel button in the singleplayer portion. Could likely experience longer load times the more I play though.

Re: Hardware Review: PS4 Pro Review - Should You Upgrade Your PlayStation 4?

Berto_Gamut

I upgraded to a 4Pro around July and have a 4K tv that isn't compatible with HDR10. While not getting the "full experience" it's mostly been a mixed bag. HZD does look great on it, but this still feels like a small upgrade, something that your general gamer likely won't notice.

And maybe this is more OS-based but my system has been laggy while games are suspended, something that didn't happen with my base PS4 just 5 months ago.

If I could do it over again, would likely opt for the 2nd revision PS4 (uses way less power usage).

Re: Sounds Like Online Functionality Will Be a Big Part of Cyberpunk 2077

Berto_Gamut

I'm still excited for it. This could mean something as harmless as Dark Souls-like integration or multiplayer missions separate from the main campaign.

Even if it does have more online integration, I trust CDPR to make a good game first. Good developers need to show how online gaming is done correctly, then we could hopefully be rid of lootbox-designed AAA games.

Besides that, the cyberpunk setting lends itself well to different forms of online functionality.

Re: Soapbox: After the Vita's Failure, Why Do People Now Want Console Games on the Go?

Berto_Gamut

Gamers have always wanted this, and developers want it even more. Developers learn to make their games leaner and aging gamers get to play in quick sprints between work/family/life-things.

The idea just had to be executed without compromises to the control scheme....and this is the important part: the games have to be good.

Psvita's biggest 1st party efforts weren't very good. RemotePlay is a decent concept with bad execution. Cross-buy was really only ever used for indie games.

Re: Maybe Don't Buy Star Wars Battlefront 2 at Launch

Berto_Gamut

This is the case with all 3rd party games during the holidays. In 2 weeks time, there'll be rumblings of a PS4 discount/deal and all of the big stores will be running things like 40% off or Buy2Get1 on new releases.

I'm waiting out Doom, AC: Origins, and Battlefront2.

Re: Sony Wants to Make PlayStation Plus Even More Attractive to Members

Berto_Gamut

"it suggested that monthly active users are fast becoming a more important metric than hardware sales."

Heheh, we've had quite a few talks on here about the importance of growing active subscriptions. Microsoft has quietly been tailoring XBL to this group as XBO always struggled in hardware sales.

PS+ has a long way to go. PSNow isn't appealing, the yearly price is going up, and the free games line-up takes huge dips in quality. You could tell they really pull out the shovelware when there isnt an MGSV or Until Dawn to give to subs.

Re: Housemarque Canning Coin-Op After Commercial Flops

Berto_Gamut

Makes sense. They've been mostly exclusive to Sony consoles since 2008, are independent, and Resogun launched as a free PS+ game. Add to that the current developer fad of style over substance, and you get a studio that's really good at not covering the costs of production.

So now instead of switching around and making a game with substance first, for a range of platforms...it'll be an MP-focused lootbox-a-thon. Let's hope it isn't The Tomorrow Children 2 and closed by Sony in a few months.

Re: Sony on Unprecedented PlayStation Violence: We Trust Our Creators

Berto_Gamut

So I'm reading that Sony showed this whole presser without any age-rating labels. That could probably be a problem, but I think press conferences (especially live streamed) are covered because of their nature of showing various content across platforms and ages.

Simply put, anyone watching videogame content with their kids shouldn't be tuning into live streamed press conferences. Same goes for people who are triggered due to PTSD or whatever else they may be suffering from. They should be waiting for the official trailers to release (which happens quickly now), go to their videogame-related site of preference (or Facebook), and watch them there.

Re: Poll: Is The Last of Us: Part II's New Trailer Too Much?

Berto_Gamut

It's a great trailer, not sure how the "haha, Nintendo only makes kiddie games!" crowd is calling out too much violence here and then too much cursing in the Beyond Good & Evil 2 trailer.

Make up your minds lol. Are you mature gamers or just kids shifting goal posts while wanting the grimdark?

Reminds me of the people who saw Mad Max and Blade Runner, but don't understand what a dystopia is.

Re: Microsoft Says Single Player Games Are Becoming Complicated

Berto_Gamut

The problem with this statement is that it's something other publishers have already been feeling, because lootboxes are popping up everywhere across PC/PS4/XBO. Sony's 2017 is stellar for single player games, but we don't know much about what's on offer in 2018. God of War and even Spider-Man could all of a sudden pop up with a lootbox system.

It's this 4K gold rush that's part of the problem. Not only did both Sony and Microsoft have to release separate consoles to cater to the resolution, they aren't making sales stronger as production costs go up. So eventually, we'll likely see another Tomb Raider situation where selling millions isn't good enough for the publisher.

Re: Ninja Theory's Hellblade Has Exceeded Sales Expectations

Berto_Gamut

Making back its money 3 months ahead of schedule is always a good thing. I'm rooting for Hellblade all the way.

As I consider my top5 GOTY contenders for 2017, Hellblade is one of the biggest that stick in my mind. And yet there's so many good games that released too. I'm just glad most were lootbox-free

Re: Poll: Where Do You Stand on Microtransactions?

Berto_Gamut

Unless it's purely cosmetic, I don't like microtransactions in games.

Multiplayer: They make booster packs that essentially can get a player to the highest level and equipment at the press of a button. Considering that balance patches are a constant thing in these online games, it's clear that these gamers get a huge lead over your regular player who's going up the ranks naturally.

Singleplayer: Everything becomes piecemeal. All of a sudden, armor doesnt just consist of three pieces, but more like seven. Then these are split further into rare item levels and sold as booster packs.
Besides that, it completely ruins immersion and just turns your game into another store front. It may as well directly connect to my BestBuy account, because I won't feel like a hero if I'm reading "Buy this Booster Pack!" in some corner of my inventory.

There needs to be a game that openly mocks this, so it can start a conversation between developers and publishers.

Re: Microsoft Is Trying to Keep PUBG Off PS4 for Longer

Berto_Gamut

Well they are the publishers of the XBO version, this deal was most likely already in place since we heard about it at E3. Bloomberg articles aren't very savvy with gaming news.

Exclusivity deals happen all the time.

@fullbringichigo Microsoft and Square Enix were happy with Rise of the Tomb Raider sales though. It came out on November 2015 and by the end of that year they sold a million digital copies alone.
