Anyone who’s bothered to track sales/interest has seen the writing on the wall for a few years now. AAA development has been bungled to holy hell by The Big 2.
It’s become way too bloated with extremely bad ideas. By all means, express distaste over Microsoft closing companies that aren’t making good worthwhile games. Let’s also remember Sony greenlighting 6-7 GaaS games that had to shutter development.
Both of those ecosystems need to right the ship big time. They chased subscription models for way too long, that stuff has to be cut out and reduced to something simpler. No more service games, no more Souls-like chasing. Make actual friggin games with their own ideas and design structures. Make smaller games. Make games with budget-friendly graphics, despite their fanbases obsession with hyper-realistic PC specs that aren’t making the games better, only more expensive to make.
And that $10 hike everyone dislikes, isn’t enough to offset costs. Think about that.
Not surprising, Death Stranding isn’t as original as some like to claim. It’s a survival/trekking hybrid where the most original thing is it’s extremely long, unevenly paced plot with millions of cutscenes for the most general things.
The “strand system” was nothing, just delivering packages and connecting NPCs...something we’ve done in hundreds of other games. The funniest thing is all the product placement.
I would say it’s biggest strength is that the moment-to-moment gameplay can be therapeutic for folks who may have depression, but the rest of the package really gets in the way. Imagine if Hellblade was way too long and had Dorito bags that healed your character
FF VII Remaster, Elden Ring, and Crystal Chronicles Remastered are my picks.
Can't wait for C2077 but that's an easy one. People forget they already showed about 45 minutes of gameplay, it doesnt have to prove itself in that department...just has to show that it isn't something as easily forgettable as Rage2.
That trailer and actor reveal hammered the message home.
Still just seems like Unreal Engine For Dummies. Which is cool, but everything I've seen looks like bite-sized flavor gameplay in a sterile environment.
Lots of gamers saw this coming. Telltale is the perfect example of fluffed up hype overshadowing bad game design. Pick-your-answer games with no actual meaning behind the answers you chose.
Think Teza pretty much hit the nail on the head there.
There was a great ARG going on yesterday when they posted a bunch of artwork on twitter. Probably the funnest "meta" thing I've done with a videogame in a while, sadly couldn't "complete it" on time :/
Even the PS4Slim is currently out of stock on Amazon, so this could just be retailers being lazy with re-stock requests. Or 4Pros stay on shelves for too long and U.S. retailers don't like that.
With their recent report saying 3.2million units were shipped last quarter, these could be those shipments finally emptying out.
After finally playing most of their fighting games, I have to say the Soul Calibur and Xenoverse games are my favorite in terms of mechanics and graphics.
Photo mode is great, I mostly just like the ability to take screenshots though. Would like to have PS4 take screenshots faster, it's pretty slow and usually misses the exact scene I tried to capture.
Lol, yeah get on that Sony. If the solution is requiring a PSN sign-in, unless it's a Sony-owned game with internet capability, no thanks I'll keep playing on the other systems. That's just an extra step I don't have to deal with currently.
"Once again I have to ask why NPD decided to highlight the Switch Neon unit as best selling SKU by units and dollar revenue when its not the best selling system overall."
@Knuckles-Fajita Because it's being tracked correctly, by single SKU. PS4 is the best-selling system if you include the regular model, the slim model, and the pro model but it isn't an accurate way to gauge sales (MediaCreate splits PS4 and 4Pro sales for a reason). So that Nintendo SKU is showing true dollar revenue for one $300 system, Sony is showing revenue across up to 3 SKUs that cost up to $700 combined.
Wow, State of Decay2 did really good for itself. That's great because I find it to be a pretty good zombie game, and getting better all the time. They deserve that top spot.
@real_obsi NPD doesn't include the GamePass subscription, this is straight sell-through to consumers.
Don't see the point in asking these questions when in such a small bubble, but okay. It doesn't bother me, I just play those games on other platforms and jump back onto my PS4 for the single-player exclusives.
As for the PS3/360 era argument, PSN was a complete crap-shoot when it came to internet security. 77million accounts hacked...did you guys forget that? Yeah, you'd be an idiot to allow cross-play with a completely open network.
Announced too early? The outcry I'm hearing is that the revealed gameplay was bland in a lot of ways.
The mysteriousness of the story was a selling point for me, but that flew out the window once tropes were established that turns this into an alt-zombie story with military types...or Metal Gear Survive: Reedus Edition.
Loved it, especially how it was introduced like they hacked the Xbox conference. The art-style is great and they're definitely shooting for a packed world setting.
...Gamers aren't going to leave the PS4 behind just because they could crossplay with XBO and Switch owners. That makes PS4 sound like all it has are closed-off multiplayer games, when that couldn't be further from the truth.
Crossplay isn't going to make Spider-Man, Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, or God of War multi-platform games all of a sudden.
It's only an enigma because they've shown no gameplay and kept to short slices of plotting. I like how Kojima pulls his game reveals off though, just happy to be along for the ride.
This is the best promotion they've ever launched. When they did this last year, I picked up a 4Pro and Horizon: Zero Dawn. E3 hype is building up nicely :]
Playstation exclusives have been absolutely stellar in the past 2-3 years and the announced 2018-2019 games are looking bonkers (Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding, Spider-Man, TLOU2). Hearing that they're planning more is really exciting and just a little bit worrying.
Woo, Swords up son! The hype train is slowly starting to build with all these teases. Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding alone will be enough to put me over the moon.
Meh, an open beta in an extremely popular genre was always going to get this kind of traction. Personally, doesn't hold a candle to either Fortnite or PUBG. It's their jankier, more accident-prone cousin
Well deserved, I was so enthralled by the story that it was being played every morning. Still have to go back and complete all the side-quests...kinda hoping they announce DLC at E3.
Tropical Freeze is only tracking two days of sales, that's really good to hit 2nd place on one platform...everyone else is counting a full week of release lol.
They probably ran out of pre-registered codes and more have to be made, so Amazon and Sony have to figure it out. For licensed products these codes aren't just created upon purchase, they have to be registered first.

Re: Poll: Is Assassin's Creed Odyssey One of the Best Games in the Series?
A fun serviceable 8/10 game, but I consider it a spin-off of AC with reused assets. Like what they did with AC: Brotherhood.
Re: Spider-Man PS4's Platinum Completion Rate Is Insane
It was pretty easy, felt like you could get there naturally by just playing through the game. Same happens with AC games before Origins
Re: Poll: If PSN Name Changes Are Really Happening, Will You Change Yours?
My current one is a school nickname barely anyone knows, so I'd change it just for kicks.

Re: Take Advantage of PS4's Multimedia Apps with the New Cloud Remote
I use my PS4 for TV a lot, this looks pretty good for $30 so I'm in.

Absolutely deserved, it's just so good in every category.

Re: Good News! Shenmue III's Scope Just Increased Again
So it's Automatic mode from Bayonetta...okay.
Re: UK Sales Charts: Crash Bandicoot Remains Top Despite Amazon Prime Day Disruption
Crazy that Sea of Thieves and specifically the Xbox edition of Minecraft got such a sales boost. Guessing the UK had them discounted in store.
Re: Sony Removes $5 Requirement from PlayStation Store
Yes! Sony finally upgraded their ancient gas station technology! I am glad :]
Re: Revisit Shenmue's Famous Dobuita Street in the Flesh
It's cool to see the signage there so similar to how it looks in-game. Kind of surreal heheh.
Re: Poll: What Do You Think of Photo Mode?
Photo mode is great, I mostly just like the ability to take screenshots though. Would like to have PS4 take screenshots faster, it's pretty slow and usually misses the exact scene I tried to capture.
Re: Sony: We Need to Cater to All People, Regardless of Age, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Ethnicity, or Belief
Okay....pretty sure everyone is already doing this.
Re: Shenmue III Celebrates Backer Surveys with New Footage
Phoo, the facial animations are not getting better.
Re: Shenmue I & II PS4 Release Date Revealed
Can't wait to see internet reactions to these games lol. Anyway, looking forward to the re-release!
Re: UK Sales Charts: Crash Bandicoot Pips The Crew 2 to Pole Position
I don't see how putting "with an Xbox One launch" in the title suggests it sold better there. Sounds like the writer just needed a shorter title.
Anyway, it's a nice remaster and glad it released on other platforms. Plays great on Switch.
Re: UK Sales Charts: Crash Bandicoot Pips The Crew 2 to Pole Position
@Fight_Teza_Fight You mean the link? It doesnt say Crash sold best on XBO, just that it released on new platforms this week and that's why it's #1.

What a great PS4 exclusive Bamco, what junk will you release for Sony next!
Re: UK Sales Charts: God of War Takes the Bronze in Uneventful Week for PlayStation
Looks like Mario Tennis Aces did well for itself over there, that's surprising.

Re: Moonlighter's New Trailer Tells You Everything You Need to Know About the Action RPG
This game looks absolutely great, just wish it was releasing on psvita too. If no portable versions are announced, it's a Steam copy for me.
Re: New Licensed Pro PS4 Controller Announced - Why Doesn't Sony Just Make One?
Yes! I absolutely want this controller. Sorry, the thumbstick placement makes more sense in terms of FPS/TPS games and generally more comfortable.
Also love that the sticks have ridges! DS4 sticks are slippy as hell.
Re: Soapbox: Why Ghost of Tsushima Could Win E3 2018
I don't need convincing, this is my most anticipated game for E3. Sony is looking to win 2018 with another ridiculous software line-up.

Yeesh, they're going patch crazy with this thing. Looking forward to a second play through with photo mode.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 217
Nothing but God of War and SNES mini this weekend.
I want every lore/art book that comes out for God of War, it is a phenomenal game but absolutely needs Kratos' past to hit all the high notes.
