Re: More Xbox Layoffs Reportedly Inbound as Company Attempts to Cut Costs

Berto_Gamut

Anyone who’s bothered to track sales/interest has seen the writing on the wall for a few years now. AAA development has been bungled to holy hell by The Big 2.

It’s become way too bloated with extremely bad ideas. By all means, express distaste over Microsoft closing companies that aren’t making good worthwhile games. Let’s also remember Sony greenlighting 6-7 GaaS games that had to shutter development.

Both of those ecosystems need to right the ship big time. They chased subscription models for way too long, that stuff has to be cut out and reduced to something simpler. No more service games, no more Souls-like chasing. Make actual friggin games with their own ideas and design structures. Make smaller games. Make games with budget-friendly graphics, despite their fanbases obsession with hyper-realistic PC specs that aren’t making the games better, only more expensive to make.

And that $10 hike everyone dislikes, isn’t enough to offset costs. Think about that.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Death Stranding Slips Yet Further as the Top 10 Holds Steady

Berto_Gamut

Not surprising, Death Stranding isn’t as original as some like to claim. It’s a survival/trekking hybrid where the most original thing is it’s extremely long, unevenly paced plot with millions of cutscenes for the most general things.

The “strand system” was nothing, just delivering packages and connecting NPCs...something we’ve done in hundreds of other games. The funniest thing is all the product placement.

I would say it’s biggest strength is that the moment-to-moment gameplay can be therapeutic for folks who may have depression, but the rest of the package really gets in the way. Imagine if Hellblade was way too long and had Dorito bags that healed your character

Re: Poll: What Was the Best PS4 Game of E3 2019?

Berto_Gamut

FF VII Remaster, Elden Ring, and Crystal Chronicles Remastered are my picks.

Can't wait for C2077 but that's an easy one. People forget they already showed about 45 minutes of gameplay, it doesnt have to prove itself in that department...just has to show that it isn't something as easily forgettable as Rage2.

That trailer and actor reveal hammered the message home.

Re: PS4 Pro Stock Running Low in the United States

Berto_Gamut

Even the PS4Slim is currently out of stock on Amazon, so this could just be retailers being lazy with re-stock requests. Or 4Pros stay on shelves for too long and U.S. retailers don't like that.

With their recent report saying 3.2million units were shipped last quarter, these could be those shipments finally emptying out.

Re: May 2018 NPD: PS4 on Top Yet Again, Detroit Starts Strong

Berto_Gamut

"Once again I have to ask why NPD decided to highlight the Switch Neon unit as best selling SKU by units and dollar revenue when its not the best selling system overall."

@Knuckles-Fajita Because it's being tracked correctly, by single SKU. PS4 is the best-selling system if you include the regular model, the slim model, and the pro model but it isn't an accurate way to gauge sales (MediaCreate splits PS4 and 4Pro sales for a reason). So that Nintendo SKU is showing true dollar revenue for one $300 system, Sony is showing revenue across up to 3 SKUs that cost up to $700 combined.

Re: Talking Point: How Much Does Cross-Play Matter to You?

Berto_Gamut

Don't see the point in asking these questions when in such a small bubble, but okay. It doesn't bother me, I just play those games on other platforms and jump back onto my PS4 for the single-player exclusives.

As for the PS3/360 era argument, PSN was a complete crap-shoot when it came to internet security. 77million accounts hacked...did you guys forget that? Yeah, you'd be an idiot to allow cross-play with a completely open network.

Re: Soapbox: E3 2018 Demonstrates the Disconnect Between Gamer Demands and Development Realities

Berto_Gamut

Announced too early? The outcry I'm hearing is that the revealed gameplay was bland in a lot of ways.

The mysteriousness of the story was a selling point for me, but that flew out the window once tropes were established that turns this into an alt-zombie story with military types...or Metal Gear Survive: Reedus Edition.

Maybe more just needs to be explained during E3.
