Re: Round Up: Reviews Rain on Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

Cloud7794

@Gemuarto Sorry about that, but yeah the first sentence was a response to you and the rest was a general rant @_@ But honestly, the battle system wasn't so bad, but the XIII feels almost like just one large testing ground for Square Enix.

The only things about Vaan that get to me is the lack of development at all and his irrelevancy to the story. If he was going to be that kind of character, he really would have been better off as a silent protagonist like in Persona. On the flip side, the XII world is one of the best I've seen in a FF game, but the story was so low scale that it really wasn't anything but an excuse to throw you into a new area at times.

The only thing that makes XII stronger than XIII in my book was that XII had a better hunting system.

Re: Round Up: Reviews Rain on Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

Cloud7794

@Gemuarto Why so? The plot may not have been too great, but the game has its high points like any other (well... except for some. Refer to "Ride to Hell: Retribution").

Glad to see it was at the very least halfway decent, though I never got much of the hate behind the first XIII. Sing praises about the FFX world all you want: the game is just as linear. Spit on Vanille/Hope all day, but give Vaan a pass? I do kinda wish they would have ended FFXIII at the first game, but that's because it has a very definite ending.

I'm not saying that XIII was a shining point in the Final Fantasy series, but it was solid enough game nonetheless. I would rate it nearly equal to XII, which in itself lost points for having the worst main character of any Final Fantasy I've played. Balthier as the main character may have made it one of the best.

Cloud7794

@ShogunRok Took them only 2 weeks after Japan got the home console versions to bring it to the States, I wonder why it took so long for Europe :/

I'm eagerly awaiting this game though. The first was an amazing fighter that even I honestly thought I could go competitive with. One of the greatest (if not the best) fighters on PS3 currently.

Re: Who Would Win Wednesdays: Old Snake vs. Batman

Cloud7794

I want to say Snake, but Batman only because he's basically OP. The comics make sure you remember that he's planned for almost literally any situation, and has the tools to pull a dues ex machina out of nowhere. Snake is sneaking up on him? Bat-echo device tells him Snake's exactly location. A firefight ensues? Bat-shield or something. Send a Metal Gear after him? Explosive something-or-anothers and other tools.

Snake is cooler though, so it's a draw for me.

Re: Move Aside BlazBlue, This PS4 and Vita Fighter Is Stranger Than You

Cloud7794

Reminds me a bit of Skullgirls + Darkstalkers, with a bit of guilty gear maybe? Still, in arcade fighters I do enjoy my combo-heavy games (thanks you Arc System Works for P4 arena and Blazblue), and this seems a bit less so, but still crazy. For some reason it just doesn't click with me.

I can't see myself picking this up day 1 so far though, despite my obsession with such games. I'd rather hear an announcement of a PS4 Blazblue/Persona Arena (with some more people from 3 and some from 5 when they around to it?). I know Guilty Gear is on its way though, so I suppose I'll make due with that 'till then.

Re: Review: Adam's Venture Chronicles (PlayStation Network)

Cloud7794

@KAPADO Sure, many games tackle religion. What I meant though, is getting specific is something hardly anyone will do. Like I was implying, the only thing most devs want to use religion for is usually some convoluted plot-point, euphemism for control of society, or loosely-based reference material (like Darksiders or something).

Not saying many others things get far too specific, but they're usually more faithful to their reference material. Scripture/religion just seems especially iffy.

Re: Review: Adam's Venture Chronicles (PlayStation Network)

Cloud7794

@moomoo For some reason I think people are too afraid to do much of anything game-related with the Bible. You're right, too, the Old Testament is full of things that could work. RTS game with Joshua's armies taking Canaan? Survival slightly horror-esque David running from Saul? A brawler where you play as Samson?

I just think that those who would be interested in making a biblically-based game are either other Christians or people who want to make some adventure-exploration type game (oh look! The Bible is actually a treasure map leading us to... [insert Biblical artifact here] ). The former wants to focus on the source material, and won't care all too much about making the game far too entertaining, and the latter won't care enough about the source material and just use it as a plot-point in what would otherwise be a completely unrelated game.

Re: Basement Crawl Bombs PS4 with Multiplayer Mayhem This Month

Cloud7794

@get2sammyb I do too, I just don't know how effective it'd be for the public. I just think that the simplistic gameplay will turn some of the more mature gamers away, while the mature rating would turn some of the younger ones away.

I'll probably grab the game regardless. Seems up my alley.

Re: Basement Crawl Bombs PS4 with Multiplayer Mayhem This Month

Cloud7794

I do enjoy the look of the game, but I feel that it's a tad unnecessary for the type of gameplay shown. A game like this would be hugely popular with a more family-style approach, and I'm just worried the M rating would put people off when the gameplay seems so simple as bomberman.

Re: Idea Factory Agonised over Cut Cards in Steamy Vita Exclusive Monster Monpiece

Cloud7794

@MadchesterManc I'm actually insinuating quite the opposite, that just because you would rather the artistic integrity to remain intact doesn't make you a fetishist. I'm only saying that the law artemishemp mentioned (who I forgot to put in the reply) is probably around because the gov. believes a correlation exists and placed that particular law "just in case", though I personally don't agree there as people are far more complex than that. That was what I was more referring to.

And that's quite surprising. I would have assumed they had some kind of rating for games that are just overtly sexual/explicit in nature. Maybe they just refuse to give such games ratings at all?

Re: Idea Factory Agonised over Cut Cards in Steamy Vita Exclusive Monster Monpiece

Cloud7794

@MadchesterManc @Squiggle55 @RyoHazuki Once again, they even mentioned this time about the images that appear to be very young. If that's your thing, I'm not going to pretend like animated images denote any particular real-world preferences as I don't really believe much correlation exists. Still, it seems more of a "just in case" law when it comes to minors.

I don't know PEGI ratings fully, but I do know that once an American game gets an Ao rating, sales plummet like a rock, as stores will largely not even be allowed to show the game on the sales floor, and you have to ask for it by name (if the store will even bother to carry it). In fact, Sony, MS, and Nintendo will refuse to allow the game to even be sold with an Ao tag. It's basically a "mark of death" unless it's a PC game, where you could just digitally download.

Does PEGI have any such rating? I wouldn't know tbh.

Re: Feature: We Predict the Stories Set to Shape PS4 and Vita in 2014

Cloud7794

@charlesnarles Haha I just re-bought Goblin Commander: Enter the Horde for Gamecube (can you believe it? A local-multiplayer RTS game on a console!). I quite love playing it with siblings, but I think the times when companies are willing to pull that off is over. A single-player one is only slightly more plausible, as most people swear by mouse and keyboard when it comes to those games :/

Re: Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster Is Looking Better Than Ever

Cloud7794

I almost feel like a writer or two here have a thing for hair. Lara Croft hair physics analysis and then this little tidbit might make one think I kid, though it could just be Square Enix, as they're the ones working so hard. The game may be in 720/1080p, but you can bet that the hair is going to be a sharp 4k lol.

Re: Hideo Kojima Took a Break from Metal Gear Solid 5 to Give Knack a Try

Cloud7794

@jgrangervikings @Gemuarto The expectations were far too high. Critics took the game that Marc Cerny said time and again was tailor made for children but also "fun for gamers who like a challenge" and took it to mean "this game must define the next-gen platformer." It's like if I went into a soup kitchen to help feed the homeless and someone comes up to me to tell me that I've failed to solve world hunger and I should try harder.

Re: Review: Don't Starve (PlayStation 4)

Cloud7794

@Squiggle55 As someone previously said, you can activate stones that will revive you apparently, so after several months you should have activated at least one and know the locations of others. I would put a chest filled with a few decent items next to the activated stone to allow you to have good enough gear to make it to your main base.

Re: Review: Don't Starve (PlayStation 4)

Cloud7794

@get2sammyb I feel that it's one of those games where the difficulty actually makes you want to keep going, not shy away. I'm on about my 6th try, and really haven't even made it to 2 weeks yet, but each time I get better and get my start much faster.

A word of advice for someone who wants to get into the game a tad easier, turn off hounds. They will severely mess you up if you're not prepared, and you definitely won't be prepared with just an axe or spear.
