All the reviews said it was a short game, 8-10 hours long, but I'm over 20 hours in and I reckon I'm no where near the end. 90+ hours though, I assume you've replayed it at least twice.

This year should be great, Horizon Forbidden West is my most-anticipated game but also very much looking forward to the likes of Stray, God of War Ragnarok (if it releases in '22), Gotham Knights and a lot more besides.

As usual with some it's always black or white, no middle ground whatsoever.

It's ironic to me that many gamers complained that EA had the sole rights to making Star Wars games and expressed a desire for different developers to be given a chance, now that they have people are moaning that are TOO many different Star Wars games in development and they want less to be made if not none at all!

Play a FromSoft game? I'm having trouble beating some of the bosses in Kena so shudder to think how poorly I'd do with something like Elden Ring.

What a great month Feb promises to be. Truly something for everyone!

I played it last October and it was a good game. Maybe my overall opinion would be more positive if I'd played it when it came out or at least before playing RE2 and RE3 remakes. Those games are better imo, just as scary in places and more fun.

Will definitely be playing Resi 8 at some point this year and am looking forward to it.

Don't like a certain genre of games, then don't play them. Nobody is forcing you. I'm not particularly enamoured by FPSs or Soulsborne games so I don't play them. I'm not going to demand difficulty settings for Elden Ring, instead I will but HFW instead and enjoy the hell out of it. I hope it takes me months to finish.

Maybe your expectations are a tad too high, perhaps unrealistic.

They're games and as such there will always be some limitations, self-imposed or otherwise.

You're overthinking it, just switch on your box and play the darn game.

@Bismarck I don't put a set time limit on 'art', for me a linear HFW is possible but the developers have chosen to go in a different direction and I respect that.

If you're not keen then play something else on your wonderful GP.

Your arrogance astonishes me, demanding that games be made to suit YOUR tastes. There's enough variety out there, don't like open world games then just don't play them and leave us be.

@Bismarck Time is a bit like cost, it's all subjective. Some might think a game should be 20 hours at most and cost a max of £40 but others may think differently.

At the end of the day, a lot of content in a game like HFW will be optional. You can follow the main quest only and have a great experience, you don't have to do every single little thing on offer and won't be punished.

A subscription service is all about quantity, finish this short game then play another and another and another and so on. Unless you're anal about compiling lists or something, what's wrong with playing a longer game as long as you enjoy it? Why does short equal good?

@Bismarck Haven't played Ori and I'm sure it's good but not sure why it's a case of cartoonish games or AAA. Why can't we have both?

I've gone from playing The Last of Us Part II to Kena, variety is what we want.

Also, I'd hate to see the industry stand still and not keep pushing the graphics side of things. I'm into gaming because of AAA SP games, without these my interest would die completely. Do we need more AA games though? Perhaps, but that's a different debate.

I paid over £20 to go to the cinema and see Spider-Man, including ticket and popcorn, for 2 1/2 hrs of entertainment.

For three times that I'll get a 50-60 hour game that I'll probably play at least twice and likely to enjoy almost every minute. For me it's money well spent.

Game Pass is cheap because MS have competition plus a number of titles have MTXs. They don't produce SP games like HFW or God of War, at least not right now. When they do, watch GP go up in price.

@Alduin Yes, how dare they ask you to actually pay for a game that they've spent countless hours working on and tens of millions of pounds.

They should actually pay YOU for your time.

@R1spam @playthedangame I'm playing Kena as well and agree about the visuals and some surprisingly tough bosses.

There was one frustrating section involving shrines, where the solution wasn't readily apparent.

I might start a new game alongside it, not sure or due to watching Titans and excitement over the upcoming new Batman film, I'm tempted to replay Arkham Knight.

Not much past 6 months compared to Xbox but the 6 months prior? Sony released plenty, Xbox? Hmm not so much.

You might be able to pay double or treble the price, some people might not.

I'd rather they didn't release any of their 1st party games on PC, the sale are minimal and it dilutes the brand whilst making it even less likely a predominantly PC player would buy a PS5 at some point down the line.

Gamers now are an entitled bunch.

I'm not sure that releasing games on PC is actually in their interests, indeed I think it's what MS wanted Sony to do.

No, of all the things that are important for Sony to do, expanding their range on PC is right near the bottom of the list.

Oh and GP seems like a great deal now but when it's doubt or triple the price? Hmm, some people might regret trusting MS when that happens but it might be too late.

I had a lot of fun with the Sony games I played on the PS4 and that will continue with the PS5.

I'm not against them adding even more variety to their existing portfolio but not at the expense of their big AAA SP titles, but in addition to.

@twitchtvpat Absolutely. The studios Sony have purchased weren't industry-leading, they're become that under their stewardship. They nurture talent and encourage creativity. This is something they need to continue.

I do think they need some good press and quick. The gaming media out there are indifferent if not outright hostile towards PlayStation right now and have been for a while if you ask me. Change the narrative, make it known that Sony are here to stay and it's really all about games, games, games.

Last year they acquired both Bluepoint and Housemarque, companies they had worked with. I'm playing Kena at present and Ember Labs would be a very smart purchase.

I doubt they'll buy a major developer or publisher, instead they'll cast the net wider and bring more companies into the PS 'family', by offering them the freedom to make the games they want to make.

Build relationships, don't get into a bidding war. I also suspect that there are many third party companies that like their autonomy and don't wish to be purchased by anyone. I think they'll be much more keen to with with Sony than MS.

In an ideal world they'd make a really good Game Pass equivalent, expand their range with some shooters, more kid/family games and still maintain their place as THE place for single player games. Oh and develop a handheld for those that like that sort of thing.

Maybe it's a cultural thing but the Japanese giants aren't as vocal as Uncle Phil and hence why MS are controlling the narrative.

I see MS as an equal threat to traditional gaming as an Apple or Google, they're part of the problem not separate from it.

Just make great games, that's all people were asking of them last gen. They couldn't so they just got their chequebooks out and took the easy path. Now apparently they're trying to save gaming or some such bs.

It worked for me first time.

My top 5 includes a strange one.

1 - ME LE 153 hrs
2 - Horizon Zero Dawn 131 hrs
3 - Ghost of Tsushima 100 hrs
4 - Shadow of War 98 hrs
5 - Battlefield V 91 hrs

And 1,100 hours in total. That was down on 2020 though so I'm making progress.

I actually started Shadow in November '20 but then stopped playing it after a few weeks so spent even more time in that game. Alot of grinding and orcs, so many orcs.

I don't want to have to buy an Xbox (no, not interested in PC gaming before anyone mentions it), I'd want it to be an actual choice. Something to compliment my PS5 not as a replacement.

Yeah, maybe Xbox games will be good in a few years time but we'll see. As of now I'm not seeing anything that's a must play, Starfield might be junk and Indiana Jones is several years away.

One final point. People who own both but just own a PS5 for their console exclusives, you are only able to do this because for millions of us the PS is our preferred platform for third party games as well. Without us, the PS wouldn't exist and you wouldn't even get to play the occasional God of War or Uncharted.

How are we all going to win? I was happy with how things were, Sony were going to continue to make big AAA SP games irrespective of what MS chose to do. As I've said before, that's all I really care about.

Subscriptions, Metaverse, whatever - all I'm interested in are the next games from Naughty Dog and Guerrilla and Santa Monica plus having the option to play titles from third party developers like Square Enix, Rockstar and CD PR.

MS aren't playing 'nice', they're clearly trying to get something from Sony. Maybe GP on PS, maybe a gentleman's agreement to stop paying for timed exclusives or promises not to buy up more third party studios. Maybe they've agreed to keep CoD on PS but only if they get an even bigger slice of the profits, either through game sales or MTXs.

I don't want Xbox or Nintendo to exit the gaming landscape, people who prefer those platforms can play on them and I'll stick with PS as ultimately all I care about are quality SP games.

If it wasn't for all these acquisitions I wouldn't care one jot what MS were doing with their Xbox division, none of their IPs appeal to me in the slightest.

And yes, MS do hold the power and they are doing whatever the hell they want. Unless the regulatory bodies grow a pair, they'll continue to do so and there's nothing Sony or Nintendo can do about it.
