Again, another thread ruined by talk about the competition. Sigh.
Anyway, Horizon Forbidden West is a Day One purchase, as is GoW Ragnarok and these two titles will play best (until they're eventually released on PC of course!) on PS5. Not just in terms of framerate and loading times but also because of the damn fans!
I'm currently replaying The Last of Us Part 2 on PS5 and it's quiet as a mouse compared to my experience on PS4. Had to turn up the volume real loud in order to hear dialogue, clickers, anything really.
I may even buy GT7, not a fan of racing games but it would be good to have a copy when friends come round. Maybe with time I'll get into it myself.
Add all the third party games and 2022 promises to be a banger!
Yay, the only 2021 release that I actually played this year.
It's a really fun game, had a blast with it. The new additions were great, enjoyed the combat and weapons (no Groovitron though 🥲) and it didn't outstay it's welcome.
Absolutely loved Final Fantasy VII remake on PS5 but as a complete package, it has to be Mass Effect LE. Never played the originals on any platform so I can into this series as a complete newcomer.
Wow, what a ride it was. Some gameplay issues with the first (Mako, overall combat) were overshadowed by the story, characters, lore and world-building. The sequels improved upon all the first one's faults and the story remained excellent throughout. A brilliant gaming experience.
Nothing says Christmas like battling through a plague of rats in 14th century France. 😉
Think I'm on the final chapter of the very good A Plague Tale. Grim setting but strangely beautiful at times and some really memorable characters. I think "Acky Duck" is the cutest and most wholesome thing I've heard all year.
If I do finish this game tonight or tomorrow, I'm going to be replaying that big bright bundle of sunshine that is The Last of Us Part 2. It's time.
Currently playing the Get A Booster game, not a lot of fun. 😒
Finished the main story of God of War the other day so just spending a bit more time with Kratos and Atreus before calling it quits. Might take me beyond the weekend, might not.
If it doesn't, will try a bit of AC Valhalla as not sure what to play next. Maybe A Plague Tale, a proper Christmas game. 😉
@rumple1980 HZD came out in 2017, God of War 2018.
BotW overshadowed Horizon and cleaned up the major Awards.
HZD was the game that convinced me to buy a PS4 so I'll always be grateful for that, the fact that it's a brilliant game in it's own right just made my decision even sweeter.
@TheArt I'm replaying God of War now and whilst it's an absolutely brilliant, if still give Horizon Zero Dawn the edge. Not a great deal in it but I guess it might come down to preferring the lead character and the enemies you face, machines being even more exciting foes than ogres and draughr.
The dragon boss fight is top notch hough as are the encounters with the Stranger.
Maybe a cigarette paper between the two, God of War is more focused but that's due to it not being an open world game of course.
@PhhhCough Mentioning something that apparently I'm not allowed to even though others have, without their comments being removed. It's al a bit strange.
I'm not feeling it, think this might be better off delayed for a few months or even longer whilst they work on the 'kinks'.
That initial settlement is ugly and dull as is the surrounding countryside. Compare this game with PS4 gems like HZD and Ghost of Tsushima and tell me why it's better.
Replaying the magnificent God of War, Mimir is in tow after the excellent journey through the Mountain. Now I'm just exploring more of the Lake before heading off to the next stage of the main quest.
@Octane but that goes against the lore of this game, machines are mass produced as they have a specific purpose. This giant snake robot is unlikely to be a one-off.
Maybe there might be a human enemy that provides the typical boss battle you're craving or maybe they produce a unique machine with one purpose: to hunt and kill Aloy.
@Octane Which I prefer. The worst thing about games are boss fights, I genuinely mean that. They can be good but often or not it's just, here's this big dude or quick dude with a huuuge and intimidating health bar and they can almost kill you in one blow, but die enough and you'll learn their patterns. Good luck!
It's actually lazy development and yes, I'm not a Soulsborne gamer!
HFW doesn't need your idea of boss battles to be a great game.
@Octane Hmm, define boss fights? The first encounters with machines like the Thunderjaw and Rockbreaker (in the pits) are clearly boss fights than there are the Frostclaw and Fireclaw encounters in the DLC.
Just because an enemy doesn't have a huge health bar it doesn't mean it's not a boss fight.
Weird world we live in where a talented guy like this gets more hate than some company stooge like 'Uncle' Phil.
He's probably there to hype up the wonderful PC release of those two Uncharted games. Factions is the next Skull and Bones or whatever it's called, still be waiting for it in 2/3 year's time.
Worst thing Sony ever did was putting their 'exclusives' on PC. It's not going to change my preference for console gaming (just a lot easier and cheaper than gaming on PC) but some people may think differently.
The only way big Sony Studios games will be released Day One on a subscription service is if these are single player games in name only and are just the launch pad for online play and MTXs.
If that's the case then I'd prefer to actually buy a complete game (I know, how boomer of me 😛) and keep it in my library.
The alternative would be to charge more than Xbox currently do and again, many on here wouldn't be happy with that.
@TheArt I really enjoyed Odyssey and played it at a good pace but with Valhalla I am at the point where I think there's almost too much to do. I haven't really played it that much over the past few weeks but when I do, I'm kind of forcing myself to.
It's strange as I'm a big AC fan and was in the mood for a big sprawling open world game and yet that's not the case. I think if I devoted enough time to it, the I'd get into it more but God of War is calling and that's going to be my 'main' for the foreseeable.
Finished Rift Apart yesterday and what a good time I had with it. A really fun game that helped brighten up some cold winter days & evenings. Worthy of appearing on many GotY lists.
With Valhalla still not doing it for me, I need something else to play and will turn to replaying an 'old' favourite; 2018's God of War. It was either that or The Last of Us Part 2 but Christmas is as much about Fantasy as it is Santa, at least to me!
So in addition to rewatching the mighty LOTR trilogy and The Witcher season 2 this December, I'll also be spending time with Kratos and Atreus and enjoying a genuinely great game.
Sony exclusives cost too much and are too good, to be released day one for 'free' on a subscription service. These titles are often single player games with no online elements, the opposite of Xbox one's where the single player section is just an advert for the MP segment. At best you may see a price drop for members on day one and/or extra content.
My fear is that people will whine and stamp their feet as always, Sony eventually relents but the quality of their studio games suffers.
MS have deeper pockets than Sony, much deeper. Xbox division could be a loss leader for decades and it would have nary and effect on their business. People who want Sony to ape what MS are doing, are either ignorant of this or actively want Sony to fail.
Halo leading proves that the public SHOULDN'T be given a vote on End of Year awards. They basically haven't got a clue, after all people also voted for Trump and Boris!

Re: PS Store January Sale Live Now, Here Are the Best PS5, PS4 Deals
@TheArt I'm going to wait for the PS5 version. Might be a while but that's the plan anyway!
Kena @ £23? Reckon I might pick that one up.
Re: PS Store's 'Huge' January Sale Will Be Unwrapped on 22nd December
Kena, hoping this will receive an attractive price reduction.
Not much else really. I do want Resi 8 but that can wait for now.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 407
Too much talk about Halo on here, take it to another site.
😉
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 407
@TheArt Yeah, Kara. Not too hard really.
Not sure I'm going to try to beat all of them, once I finish the main story in a game it's hard to find the urge to continue playing.

I'm just shocked that neither Yennefer nor Ciri make the list.
Not that I've searched of course.

You're all disgusting human beings!
Any recommendations?

@Royalblues Wow, what a typically snide comment from the Xbox fanboy.
Horizon Zero Dawn is a fantastic game, the fact that it has a great story and lore is just the icing on the cake. You're way off on this one.
Re: Horizon Forbidden West's Stunning Sci-Fi Ecosystem Unleashed in PS5, PS4 Trailer
Looks incredible.
I'm dreading the giant mechanical spiders, bound to be in this game.
😛
Re: Nixxes Responsible for Recent Horizon Zero Dawn PC Patches
@Alduin Yes they will but only if you spend a lot more than a PS5 costs, oh and happy to wait years for the game to come out.
😉
Well, for now at least but I do suspect it won't be too long before an 'exclusive' is released day one on both PS and PC.

Re: Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Odyssey Get Free Crossover Quests on 14th December
@BlahBlahBlee And majority of ME players choose MaleShep but they were wrong about that as well.
Kassandra all the way, clearly the better choice.
😛
Re: Trek to Yomi Is Still 2022's Most Promising Samurai Game
Interested in this until I saw the Game Pass info at the end. I'm not buying any third party game that is released day one on GP.
Shame as it looks really good.
Re: Raw Forspoken Gameplay Features Combat, Menus
I watch this footage and can't help but think that I'd prefer a Days Gone 2.

Re: PS5 Controllers Coming in Pink, Blue, and Purple in January
I'm okay for now as I have the White and Black ones. I'm a fan of both.
Despite loving purple as a colour, I'd got for the Blue one if I was in the market for another controller.
Re: Sony Is Releasing Official PS5 Console Covers in 2022
Ha, "Release colour plates!" some cry.
They do.
"These are boring, where are the patterned ones?"
PushSquare to a tee!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 406
@PenguinL Nice one!
Miles Morales is a fun game, good place to start your PS5 adventures.
👍

A bit late.

Re: New Wonder Woman Game Will Use the Nemesis System
@WallyWest Yea, that was my preferred costume for her as wel. Upgraded the Hell out of it!
Re: New Wonder Woman Game Will Use the Nemesis System
Wonder Woman game has enormous potential so I'm intrigued by this one.
Too many superhero games? No, not really. A good game is a good game, that's all that matters.
New IPs are a risk and most often or not they fail. It's the same in other mediums. We just like what we like, no harm in that.
They should get the actress behind Kassandra to voice her. I played her as if she was WW anyway.
😉
Re: All The Game Awards 2021 Winners
@Akurusu Haha, I've played plenty this year mate so not sure why not playing this particular game means I've been living in a cave.
🤔
Re: New Horizon Forbidden West Trailer Features Gameplay and Costumes
Looks brilliant, Day One purchase, can't wait.
Re: All The Game Awards 2021 Winners
Looks like a weak year overall, nothing truly outstanding but some solid games nonetheless.
It Takes Two is the type of winner that people will forget about within a few months, apart from the developers of course.
Take that, Take-Two Interactive!

Re: Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann to Present at The Game Awards

Re: God of War PC Has More Detailed Assets, Higher-Resolution Shadows, and More
Oh Sony, what have you done?
😒
Be more like Nintendo, NOT MS. Should've kept your 'exclusives' exclusive and concentrated on upgrading PS4 games for the PS5.
This doesn't benefit PS loyalists in the slightest.
Re: Horizon Zero Dawn PC Patch Adds DLSS Upscaling Technology
Yeah, why cover this nonsense?

Re: Geoff Keighley Teases 'Four or Five' Elden Ring Calibre Showcases for The Game Awards
Final Fantasy VII Part I, please.
Other titles I'm looking forward to (ME 4, Spider-Man 2) are too far away.
Re: Poll: What Is Your PS5, PS4 Game of the Year 2021?
@Royalblues So GotY only goes to good games then?
😝
Cant vote, only played three on this list. Well technically five but unable to vote for individual ME games.
Never mind.
Re: PlayStation Executive Fired After Unsavoury Allegations Emerge
@Korgon What's one thing got to do with the other?
Also, Halo reviews were bound to be good. The critics lap up anything MS nowadays and sneer on all things Sony, even some on this site.
Anyways, despicable behaviour. Let's hope he receives the justice that he deserves.
