Re: Soapbox: Sony's First-Party Exclusives Will Shine Once Again in 2022

Col_McCafferty

Again, another thread ruined by talk about the competition. Sigh.

Anyway, Horizon Forbidden West is a Day One purchase, as is GoW Ragnarok and these two titles will play best (until they're eventually released on PC of course!) on PS5. Not just in terms of framerate and loading times but also because of the damn fans!

I'm currently replaying The Last of Us Part 2 on PS5 and it's quiet as a mouse compared to my experience on PS4. Had to turn up the volume real loud in order to hear dialogue, clickers, anything really.

I may even buy GT7, not a fan of racing games but it would be good to have a copy when friends come round. Maybe with time I'll get into it myself.

Add all the third party games and 2022 promises to be a banger!

Re: Game of the Year: Best PS5, PS4 Remake, Remaster, or Re-Release of 2021

Col_McCafferty

Absolutely loved Final Fantasy VII remake on PS5 but as a complete package, it has to be Mass Effect LE. Never played the originals on any platform so I can into this series as a complete newcomer.

Wow, what a ride it was. Some gameplay issues with the first (Mako, overall combat) were overshadowed by the story, characters, lore and world-building. The sequels improved upon all the first one's faults and the story remained excellent throughout. A brilliant gaming experience.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Xmas Edition

Col_McCafferty

Merry Christmas to all.

Nothing says Christmas like battling through a plague of rats in 14th century France. 😉

Think I'm on the final chapter of the very good A Plague Tale. Grim setting but strangely beautiful at times and some really memorable characters. I think "Acky Duck" is the cutest and most wholesome thing I've heard all year.

If I do finish this game tonight or tomorrow, I'm going to be replaying that big bright bundle of sunshine that is The Last of Us Part 2. It's time.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 407

Col_McCafferty

Currently playing the Get A Booster game, not a lot of fun. 😒

Finished the main story of God of War the other day so just spending a bit more time with Kratos and Atreus before calling it quits. Might take me beyond the weekend, might not.

If it doesn't, will try a bit of AC Valhalla as not sure what to play next. Maybe A Plague Tale, a proper Christmas game. 😉

Enjoy!

Re: Horizon Forbidden West's Stunning Sci-Fi Ecosystem Unleashed in PS5, PS4 Trailer

Col_McCafferty

@TheArt I'm replaying God of War now and whilst it's
an absolutely brilliant, if still give Horizon Zero Dawn the edge. Not a great deal in it but I guess it might come down to preferring the lead character and the enemies you face, machines being even more exciting foes than ogres and draughr.

The dragon boss fight is top notch hough as are the encounters with the Stranger.

Maybe a cigarette paper between the two, God of War is more focused but that's due to it not being an open world game of course.

Re: Raw Forspoken Gameplay Features Combat, Menus

Col_McCafferty

Hmm.

I'm not feeling it, think this might be better off delayed for a few months or even longer whilst they work on the 'kinks'.

That initial settlement is ugly and dull as is the surrounding countryside. Compare this game with PS4 gems like HZD and Ghost of Tsushima and tell me why it's better.

Re: Did You Spot the Snake Robot in Horizon Forbidden West's PS5, PS4 Trailer?

Col_McCafferty

@Octane Which I prefer. The worst thing about games are boss fights, I genuinely mean that. They can be good but often or not it's just, here's this big dude or quick dude with a huuuge and intimidating health bar and they can almost kill you in one blow, but die enough and you'll learn their patterns. Good luck!

It's actually lazy development and yes, I'm not a Soulsborne gamer!

HFW doesn't need your idea of boss battles to be a great game.

Re: New Wonder Woman Game Will Use the Nemesis System

Col_McCafferty

Wonder Woman game has enormous potential so I'm intrigued by this one.

Too many superhero games? No, not really. A good game is a good game, that's all that matters.

New IPs are a risk and most often or not they fail. It's the same in other mediums. We just like what we like, no harm in that.

They should get the actress behind Kassandra to voice her. I played her as if she was WW anyway.

😉

Re: All The Game Awards 2021 Winners

Col_McCafferty

Looks like a weak year overall, nothing truly outstanding but some solid games nonetheless.

It Takes Two is the type of winner that people will forget about within a few months, apart from the developers of course.

Take that, Take-Two Interactive!

😛

Re: Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann to Present at The Game Awards

Col_McCafferty

Weird world we live in where a talented guy like this gets more hate than some company stooge like 'Uncle' Phil.

He's probably there to hype up the wonderful PC release of those two Uncharted games. Factions is the next Skull and Bones or whatever it's called, still be waiting for it in 2/3 year's time.

Re: Reaction: Merging PS Plus and PS Now Makes Sense, But an Xbox Game Pass Competitor Can't Be Half-Arsed

Col_McCafferty

The only way big Sony Studios games will be released Day One on a subscription service is if these are single player games in name only and are just the launch pad for online play and MTXs.

If that's the case then I'd prefer to actually buy a complete game (I know, how boomer of me 😛) and keep it in my library.

The alternative would be to charge more than Xbox currently do and again, many on here wouldn't be happy with that.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 405

Col_McCafferty

@TheArt I really enjoyed Odyssey and played it at a good pace but with Valhalla I am at the point where I think there's almost too much to do. I haven't really played it that much over the past few weeks but when I do, I'm kind of forcing myself to.

It's strange as I'm a big AC fan and was in the mood for a big sprawling open world game and yet that's not the case. I think if I devoted enough time to it, the I'd get into it more but God of War is calling and that's going to be my 'main' for the foreseeable.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 405

Col_McCafferty

Finished Rift Apart yesterday and what a good time I had with it. A really fun game that helped brighten up some cold winter days & evenings. Worthy of appearing on many GotY lists.

With Valhalla still not doing it for me, I need something else to play and will turn to replaying an 'old' favourite; 2018's God of War. It was either that or The Last of Us Part 2 but Christmas is as much about Fantasy as it is Santa, at least to me!

So in addition to rewatching the mighty LOTR trilogy and The Witcher season 2 this December, I'll also be spending time with Kratos and Atreus and enjoying a genuinely great game.

Enjoy your weekend, folks!

Re: Sony Set to Combine PS Plus and PS Now to Create Xbox Game Pass Competitor on PS5, PS4

Col_McCafferty

Sony exclusives cost too much and are too good, to be released day one for 'free' on a subscription service. These titles are often single player games with no online elements, the opposite of Xbox one's where the single player section is just an advert for the MP segment. At best you may see a price drop for members on day one and/or extra content.

My fear is that people will whine and stamp their feet as always, Sony eventually relents but the quality of their studio games suffers.

MS have deeper pockets than Sony, much deeper. Xbox division could be a loss leader for decades and it would have nary and effect on their business. People who want Sony to ape what MS are doing, are either ignorant of this or actively want Sony to fail.
