@Medic_Alert For you maybe, to me they make kid games.
To make a game like God of War or The Last of Us Part II costs money. If these games are scaled back in their costs and ambition, then I'll have no choice but to go with Xbox.
If I wanted to play Nintendo-type games I'd buy a bloody Switch!
EA own BioWare. Star Wars series like Fallen Order and Battlefront.
Then there is all the money generated by the sports games.
Seriously, MS buy EA and it really is Game Over and Sony will slowly kill off the PS5. Some people on here think they can continue without CoD, FIFA AND Madden?
Gaming is in a perilous state right now, it really does seem as if we're going to all end up dragged into the MS ecosystem whether we like it or not.
I don't think it's even about Sony putting up a GP equivalent, it almost feels like it's too late. They should focus on developing games at their current studios and almost having to bend the knee to MS in order to avoid them buying even more heavyweight publishers.
An EA or Take-Two would be a disaster for Sony, would really mean they've lost the 'casual' market.
Next developer Sony should buy isn't one of the big ones but should be Ember Labs. Playing Kena at present and whilst it's not perfect, it's a really nice game and the folks there are obviously talented.
@BAMozzy Yet. You really think that they won't buy more companies? Taking even more IP off PS? Games that would've made their way to Xbox and PC anyway?
Oh yes, apparently this is all about reaching more gamers. Of course it it.
@Alduin I dont care if they do, let's face facts here Xbox can continue to operate at a loss for years and years and that won't affect MS in the slightest.
@GADG3Tx87 I'm baffled by the gloating and celebration that's taking place on other sites, it's almost as if they want PS to end.
At no point have I hoped that Xbox or Nintendo leave the gaming scene. They do their thing and Sony do what they do best. It does feel as if SP games are at peril here especially big blockbusters that aren't online or stuffed full of MTXs.
Sony are notoriously quiet and at the worst possible times. They really need to make some announcements next month and not just a HFW State of Play.
If PlayStation goes the way of the dodo I'm not sure that's good news for all gamers, irrespective of their preferred platform. Not sure why Xbots are gloating, will just mean their subscriptions go up and up and up.
@viktorcode I hope not, there aren't many companies I dislike more than MS but Apple are definitely one of them!
Console gamers prefer consoles, their sales aren't that far off PS5 already even with GP being on PC. Of course the future might be app based and then that way nobody owns a copy of a game, just renting them. I thought gamers were against this but turns out they just weren't ready for it at the time.
This year and next, PS5 will continue to sell like hotcakes.
Beyond that? I expect Xbox S & X to overtake them. The question is will Sony continue to fight for their place in the gaming market or will they give up on hardware and just sell software? They own some of the greatest and most talented studios in gaming so will always have a presence, but right now the future is very uncertain.
Hopefully HFW releases on time, is as good if not even better than the first and people remember it's really all about the games.
@UltimateOtaku91 Yep, unaware that in the long term it will actually hurt them but by then it might be too late.
Even at the height of the PS4's dominance I didn't want Xbox to end, nor Nintendo to give up on gaming. Choice is good and each of the three kind of specialised in it's own thing anyway. Just going out buying third party developers, who have a history of being multi-platform, just in order to remove their games from the competition isn't about creating more choice for gamers but removing it.
They say "just buy an Xbox or PC" but I don't want to nor have I felt that I needed to. PS have me the AAA SP games that I crave plus most major third party titles. I was a huge fan of Skyrim but unless I swallow my pride completely and just join the herd, I won't be able to play the next installment. That sucks.
Uncharted was never a MP title, neither was God of War or TLoU or Ghost of Tsushima etc etc - there might be a case for Spider-Man but blame Disney for that, not forcing Sony to sell it across all possible platforms.
This is what they call a dlck move on MS's part, purely aimed at hurting and humbling Sony.
I really don't think PS's GP equivalent would fly on Xbox. Their games aren't FPS or online and actually have stories and interesting characters (sometimes females who aren't all dressed like strippers). In shirt it would be a flop.
GP on PS? Who here would pay for it? I wouldn't, damned if that trash company would get a single penny from me. What says everyone else?
Also, can we stop with the idea that this move is designed to benefit the majority of gamers. Those games were going to Xbox and PC anyway. It's clearly designed to put Sony in their place and bring them to the table, kind of like a mob boss wiping out a rival's entire family. When you're down, you'll accept a helping hand up from anyone even your sworn enemy.
@Kohaku Game Pass on PS would kill Sony. Yes people would still be buying their 'exclusives' but third party games? No, not really unless these are timed exclusives but even that might trigger MS into doing something else to hurt Sony.
If the end goal is to put GP on PS and PS equivalent on Xbox and PC, the end of exclusives and the end of AAA SP games that take years to develope. They'll just put old any old tosh as quantity rules over quality, apparently for some gamers.
@MaccaMUFC This old chestnut. Sony wouldn't be buying those publishers, in the case of Activision they couldn't afford to.
As things used to stand, all the games those publishers made would be available on ALL possible platforms. With a couple of big cheque books and now none of their titles are on PlayStation. They have removed games from players, not added them.
@Pepsiman_100 Lots of people are concerned but some see this as a chance to gloat.
I think it's very depressing news and I'm not sure Sony will have an answer. Make the most of your PS5, probably the last every console Sony ever make.
@lacerz It's not and it's also incredibly lazy of them.
I'd have a lot more respect for them, even been tempted to go back to Xbox, if they'd cultivated their own God of War or The Last of Us but instead they have just spent crazy sums of money in order to remove third party games from PS.
@Rural-Bandit wow, the paid to keep FF7 off Xbox. Big bloody deal. It wouldn't have sold on there anyway, not on GP.
Sony are in a competition, MS are trying t creat a monopoly. There's a big ***** difference.
Sony attracted me to PS4 because of their games, MS are trying to give gamers zero bloody choice!
It's actually the death knell of the industry and Sony know it. I expect them to publicly make out they're fine but behind the scenes, a clock is ticking down to when they're software only.
Do Xbots really hate PS this much? Do they want to see them go out of business?
I'm not sure how anyone can gloat over this. It's not Xbox players interest for Sony to fail, once they do and there's only one game in town then MS can charge whatever they hell they want for GP.
Despite all the fanboy nonsense, this isn't a good move for any gamer.
@Rob_230 Of course they are, it's what many on here have been saying for ages. They don't want genuine competition, they want to OWN the industry and be the only game in town.
MS are a ***** disgrace and Uncle Phil is the biggest hypocrite and snake in all of gaming.
Doesn't matter if you play Activision games or not, these games generate huge revenues for Sony and something like Call of Duty being on GP only will be a massive loss.
This is all because they got their arses whipped last gen. Surely there are some sort of anti-monopoly laws within the gaming industry? An independent regulator must look into this and question it's merits.
Seriously, this is what I have been afraid of. MS buying all the major third-party developers until you have no choice but to invest into their ecosystem.
Scary times, Xbots will love it until one day Xbox is the only game in town and GP costs over £30 per month.
UC4 but only just and probably beats out 2 simply because it has better graphics and smoother gameplay. Oh and one of the best chase sequences in gaming history. As well as lemurs.

🤔

Edit - seriously is it only just me that finds this guy to be extremely annoying, as well as a massive hypocrite that's completely full of himself?
@BoldAndBrash RDR2 and The Witcher 3 aren't just the two best open world games of last gen but two of the best full stop. You're always going to be disappointed if you expect every open world game to be as good as either of those.

He's just trolling us now.
Re: EA Is the Next Major Publisher Tipped for a Takeover
God, imagine a Mass Effect game made by Naughty Dog or Dragon Age by Sucker Punch.
It really does feel like within a few years we won't have a choice and we'll all end up buying into the Xbox ecosystem.
If it's an organic choice then fine, if it's the ONLY choice then that really does suck.

Re: EA Is the Next Major Publisher Tipped for a Takeover
@Medic_Alert great, so in the future Sony AAA games will become AA and last a week at most.
That's not why I bought a PS4 and stayed with them this gen nor what they are notorious for.
Some on here think they can survive with just JRPGs, that's hilarious.
Re: EA Is the Next Major Publisher Tipped for a Takeover
@Medic_Alert That's because their games are all cutesy stuff and cost peanuts compared to a God of War or Horizon Zero Dawn.
Nintendo don't need major third party games to exist, PlayStation does.
Re: EA Is the Next Major Publisher Tipped for a Takeover
Remember once when people talked about the games they're looking forward to play and not which publisher will be bought by who.

Re: A Big Eyes and Mouth God of War PC Mod Has Gone Viral
Yeah I don't see this as 'news' and mods like this almost insult the developers.
Humour is all subjective though, I'm sure there's stuff I find funny that others don't.
Can't wait for the Hulk/Abby mod when TLoU 2 is released on PC.

What I've learnt is that MS can do no wrong and Sony are the bad guys simply for making great AAA SP games that attracted millions to the PS4.

Re: Reaction: Activision Blizzard Buyout Is Devastating for PS5, PS4
Short term, no impact at all.
Long term, yeah Sony will go the way of SEGA and for some reason Xbots find this to be very funny and welcome news.
One day when they're having to pay 3-4 times the amount each month for their GP subscription, they may regret their gloating.
Also, I think this is final proof that contrary to what Uncle Phil has said in the past, PlayStation are their competitors. For now at least.
Re: Will Call of Duty and Other Activision Blizzard Games Come to PS5, PS4?
@BAMozzy that just sounds awful.
In all honesty I hate this future, it's just going to produce filler and easily disposable crap.
Majority of stuff on subscription services is rubbish, it's all about something to watch/play rather than focusing on actual quality.
Gamers need to wake up.

Re: Will Call of Duty and Other Activision Blizzard Games Come to PS5, PS4?
No, of course not. Why would it?
MS have agreed a price just shy of $70bn for one company. I sincerely doubt they care about losing PS customers.
They're trying to create a monopoly and it won't end here. Ubisoft or EA will be next.
Sony can't do anything other than going out in style before they become another SEGA.

You want to see MS as the only game in town? You want the to completely own the industry?!
Even if you're a MS fanboy, surely you can see how dangerous this is.
Re: Microsoft Buys Call of Duty Publisher Activision Blizzard
@WizzNL I think Nintendo have their own niche and wouldn't care one jot if Sony stopped selling consoles nor if they pulled out of gaming entirely.
This move puts Sony in an extremely difficult position and one I'm not sure they can recover from.
Re: Microsoft Buys Call of Duty Publisher Activision Blizzard

Re: Microsoft Buys Call of Duty Publisher Activision Blizzard
Call of Duty NOT being on PS is massive and is going to hit their pockets hard.
Crash being an Xbox exclusive is beyond insane.
AAA SP games are all I really care about but I suspect this will be the last PS console generation and SP games in the future will be utter *****.
Re: Microsoft Buys Call of Duty Publisher Activision Blizzard
Sony are going to be the next SEGA.
Software only and selling games on Xbox, PC and, if the games are basic enough, Nintendo.
They can't compete with MS.

American companies love a monopoly and Americans love them to.
Sony can't compete when this sort of cash is thrown around, they just can't.
If Sony end up getting out of the gaming busines, I'll have to get into Nintendo. No way I'm giving the bloodsuckers any of my money.
