I'll be there day 1. I love games that play with setting (Steelrising, Vampyr, Banishers Ghosts of New Eden) and shift it away from high fantasy all the time.
@nessisonett I agree, I just worry Sony will read it as 8 years of dev time and rebooting it at some point only helped the cause and claim we should take our time with games! I also wonder if they cancelled something like Factions prematurely, and if it would have been different had HD2 released before cancelling the project. Might have seen it as a chance to release $40 factions and watch people devour it (I would play it at that price as I loved the first go round).
@Bagwag82 I think the easiest solution to this is to just look away. If I see an article on here not for me, I do not click on it, but rather find those that I find worth reading. Hence, I read HellDivers 2 to support the PushSquare team (and because it interests me), but completely skip a review for something like Alone in the Dark (because it does not interest me). Don't forget, they've a business to run, and have to decide on what receives clicks and what does not. Enough of the community here plays these two games to make it worth writing about.
@JonnyAces I had the same itch as I watch Shōgun. Couldn’t decide between replaying Ghost or Wo Long or Nioh as I really just want to be in the mood to use a sword in that type of setting!
Didn't this one have a gameplay trailer teaser months back? I might be mistaken, but I swear this one definitely showed some of the gameplay, which looked great.
I was pumped until I played the demo on PSN; it quickly made me realize that the potential would not match the product. I am all for jank or even a harkening back to earlier generations (I loved Wanted:Dead last year, which many outlets saw as bad), but this just felt like it was a relic in the wrong ways.
Always interested in these with the new one around the bend and coming to PS5 after it’s exclusivity window. May check at least one of these out and then buy the other two if I enjoy it.
Banishers Ghosts of New Edén is the other. It’s very enjoyable and I want to wrap it up before I dive into Rebirth.
I also made progress in Grime yesterday as it’s another game from the sub service. I’ve been trying to get my money’s worth in 2024. So far I’ve finished 4 games on the service. Smaller titles but finished none the less.
@Quintumply started it but never finished it. Combat and tactics are incredibly fun with the card system, but golly there is wayyyy too much dialogue in it. I started skipping some of the social aspects just to get back to the gameplay.
It's time we took back the galaxy from those Automatons. Super Earth cannot spread democracy with such vile scum working to undermine us. I am ready to suit up, jack in, and give my body to Democracy!
I wanted F123 a few weeks ago, as I am never in a rush to get the latest installment of any sports title, so this is a nice win since I don't do EA's sub. Sifu is fantastic too for those who have not yet had that joy.
I felt like I told people Suicide Squad would make it this month. It was obvious based on the PS Store promotions and it being in top ten on there digitally. The users of this site, like myself, are the hardcore, and lose sight that though we stayed away, the general gaming populace will not. Mark my words now, it will be on there again next month I am sure.
@Tsushima Agreed. I am a few hours into Banishers, and it feels very much like it belongs in the same family.
I also recommend Steelrising to anyone out there, as Spiders did, what I felt, was a tremendous job for a first foray into that dreaded Soulslike genre.
@Kidfunkadelic83 I don’t have a lot of experience with tower based defense games because they don’t appeal to me. I would say that there is some defensive work with a certain spot on the map but for me I feel like the majority of it was me fighting to keep my mechs alive and I barely thought about defending anything.
@Kidfunkadelic83 13 sentinels is fantastic. The story is enjoyable and the RTS combat is simple but more complex than it appears. It’s a game I think if I had watched gameplay of I’d say no thanks, but playing it I couldn’t wait to unveil more of the story with each chapter.
Very awesome. It was not on my radar before, but I am going to have to reconsider now that I see some of the influences. I just worried it was another metroidvania (I've got more than enough to play in that genre at the moment) with rogue like elements.
@Pixipantalon if I was into and really enjoyed Gotham Knights, what are my odds here? Your point about The Division is appealing to me, as I still think about going back to that from time to time. I’m tempted to ignore the reviews and people as Wanted Dead was one of my favorite games last year that was highly looked down on by reviews and ignored by most.
@Loamy Gungrave is awesome for short bursts between other games. I’ll do a level or two, wear out my fingers on the triggers and come back later after playing something else. Overall I love that I don’t have to worry about hidden paths, collectibles, or missing side quests. Just shoot and kill lol
@3Above the demo is what has me highly interested. I just was hoping to avoid adding to the backlog by finishing a few first, but I like what I played and want more of it.
Steelrising was a blast and one of my favorite games to play that year. Rollerdrome was also great. So all in all a good month if you have an open mind!
@CJD87 sorry for the late reply! It’s definitely Dark Souls 4, the design and atmosphere are awesome. It does suffer from enemy variety and combat takes a moment to click. However, as long as you’re not chasing the platinum I think it’s a solid 8/10 for those who enjoy all types of Souls games. Like Lies of P it shines if you don’t compare it to what has come before.
@CJD87 Last Faith was fantastic. I’m wrapping Lords of the Fallen myself and have Grime next on my dashboard. LOTF gets a lot of unnecessary hate. Just don’t treat it like a clone of Dark Souls. It is its own game and I loved my time with it. Debating a second run in NG+0 just to crush through got some side quests I missed.
@starnivore @Jake3103 you both have convinced me. I may wrap up my current game then devote my 45 mins Saturday night to checking it out. My phone may be the better place to play as two little ones keep me busy most of the day
@MrSensical I loved it. You have to learn how to play it. It has an arguably bad on boarding system for how combat works, but once you treat it like a fighting game and not an action game (dodges, cancels, combos, etc) it makes more sense (which I know is in complete contradiction to the genre of the game).
@RudeAnimat0r @JB_Whiting It's a shame to see y'all did not enjoy it. I know it was a turn off for a lot of people. And I agree it's definitely jank of the PS2 era, but once I figured out what it was wanting me to do and how to make combat flow, I had a blast. I think the Youtuber Electric Underground did a nice take on why it did not click for most people (including him) until he approached it differently than we do most mainstream games now.
Oddly enough I have been waiting for this update for a year, because I knew it was coming, and knew the one trophy was questionably impossible to obtain, so I may dive back in!
@Athrum I'd agree with your assessment. Unless Liam knows something we do not, I also think this listing probably spells out the same information. I expect to be enjoying Stellar Blade by summer, and if rumoured State of Play expectations are true, I expect the announcement to be there this month (or early February).
@riceNpea I think hardcore is the people like us who visit the site. All my friends and family who play PlayStation I would not call hardcore. They either play 1st party games with F2P mixed in or just F2P mostly. Most of the teens I know who game are the same. I’d say 1 in 7 are hardcore. So the tiers would be a great value for them, but not us. Anecdotally look at the top ten selling games every month and you’ll see anything but hardcore.
@Shepherd_Tallon I will add for Wo Long that I loved it. The first boss is a skill check. After that I don’t think I hit a wall the rest of the game. Got the platinum I loved it so much. And I didn’t do that with either Nioh or the Dark Souls series.
Finishing up the Last Faith I hope and then continuing Lords of the Fallen and BG3. I’m a broken record the last several weeks but two young kids will do that to you!
Lots of The Last Faith, along with Baldurs Gate 3 (finally making it to Act 2!) and Lords of the Fallen. I’m at a crossroads with the last one. Do I cleanse the world of evil or join it? Lol
@Olmaz the most rational take in the comments section, because it acknowledges both sides. In the age of extreme identity politics it’s nice to know some can see where both sides have a place at the table. As an educator thank you for being able to see we should approach everything with caution.
@Northern_munkey I’d echo that. Lies of P and Sanabi are both fantastic, and Hex creating a new studio to do LOTF and the dev hell it went through. Highly underrated Gunfire Games too who crushed it with Remnant 2 in every way.
@Fakeplastictree for LOTF I am doing a Radiance build. Once you get a certain sword that scales with that you’ll really slice through enemies. My secondary stat is strength because there are some good weapons that stack with that and Radiance for an unga bunga magic build lol

I'll still watch this, despite being able to imagine that BoS member being floated down to the ground on invisible strings. I just can't unsee it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 520
FF7 Rebirth
Trinity Fusion (now has a demo on the store!)
Crisis Core (still….)
And my daily diving for Democracy in Helldivers 2

HellDivers 2
Followed up by trying to finish Crisis Core before moving onto Rebirth but I doubt I’ll be able to resist.
Lastly quick runs in Trinity Fusion, which is growing on me the more I play it.

Banishers of New Edén for me.
Beyond that I’ll be Helldiving all weekend. I can’t stop! For Liber-tea!

Otherwise the, so far, excellent Banishers from Don’tNod.

HellDivers 2 all weekend! It’s fantastic.
I’ll also work on Crisis Core and play the FFVII demo as well. That’s about it for me.
Maybe I’ll squeeze in some more Forgive me Father if I need my FPS fix.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 514
I’m at a crossroads with games. I’ve played several and nothing seems to stick for very long.
I’ve been playing:
GunGrave Gore
Crisis Core Reunion
Forgive me Father
BG3
But I’m actually really interested in
Grime
Dark Light
trinity Fusion
GranBlue Fantasy Relink
So I’m all over the place. Maybe I’ll just pick up Suicide Squad instead lol.
Re: Could Sony, Hideo Kojima's Physint Be the First Announced PS6 Game?

Simple weekend:
Wrap up Lords of the Fallen.
Start Final Fantasy Crisis Core in preparation for FF7 Rebirth.
Oh and some BG3 in there for good measure.

For me I’ve platinumed The Last Faith, so I will start what will probably be terrible but lots of fun: Gungrave GORE.
I’ll also be trying to advance Act 2 in BG3 and of course wrap up LOTF as I’m nearing the end there.

@DrVenture69 its tough for the first fight or two, gives you room to breathe and then the last two areas ramp it up again.
