I remember reading somewhere that Titanfall 3 was a no go because the team didn't feel they could meaningfully top the 2nd game, which is why they moved on of their own accord. If anything, I sense this could spell some sort of crossover anniversary material for the hardcore.
Ugh, ok this sold me. I've got so much stuff I'd like to play, but I can't help it, Night City just won't let me go it seems. Guess I am headed back in!
Could have scored a 5 and I would be on board. The demo sold me, the atmosphere sold me, and I don't care about linearity, jank, or perfection in a game. I just want a solid experience and I expected this one to put forth that. This and Lords of the Fallen will be competing for my time once AC6 is done.
Well deserved and it makes me wonder what they expected. I always thought The Messenger had done well, but maybe that's within my own little microcosm of friends. Awesome to see such strong sales, and I wonder how much of that is or is not connected to Switch sales as well as price increase announcements with Sony encouraging people to buy it and drop their subs. Critical reviews also really help, and so does reputation of game. So many factors at play.
@Shepherd_Tallon I’m on the final stretch of TOTK. I don’t even mention it to people anymore because I tell them just assume I’m playing until I say otherwise lol. So I understand and feel that broken record comment!
Want to focus on wrapping up Remnant 2 after 30 hours. I’ll keep rerolling post campaign to gather other stuff and work toward the secret archon archetype. Otherwise small stuff: cursed to golf, gal guardians demon purge and participating in something for a game I will not speak about lol.
@REALAIS for me, two kids and lots of naps from my littlest one on my chest, I have used my backbone to finish entire games like Final Fantasy 1 or Nobody Saves the World. This would have been great to have a bigger screen, and since my wifi situation works well, I would enjoy pretty smooth streaming experiences while caring for them.
I imagine most Dark Souls folks will snub this as they often do in favor of FromSoftware, but I have high hopes for it.
We’ve been treated well to some enjoyable games in that “genre” with Steelrising, Thymesia, and 2D games like Blasphemous.
I’m picking this up Day 1 over others for the next few months and the only one I see rivaling it for my attention will be Lords of the Fallen, which also looks to bring some cool ideas of its own.
I continue to work on Remnant 2. What a game filled with secrets and reasons to keep playing. Lore is much deeper this time around or at least easier to find. I’m loving it even more than the first.
Otherwise I have some indies I’d like to start and get through. Gal Guardians Demon Purge or others
I may also give Tower of Fantasy another go. It’s free gacha garbage but I really enjoyed Genshin for awhile so I’m curious to put hours into Tower.
As a single player guy, I really would love to find a live service game that clicks with me, as it seems like everyone has their bread and butter they enjoy. This looks like it could be the one if gameplay and core loop hold up.
@wiiware that’s awesome you took down Tree Sentinel! He’s hinted to be optional since you can kind of blow right past him, but kudos to sticking with it. You’re in for an unforgettable journey!
Finished FF16! What a game. Might be my top this year. We shall see. Need to finish up the last few main quests of TOTK as I keep delaying it. But after 75 hours I think I’ll be done.
Otherwise after months finally new games. Remnant 2, Gal Guardians Demon Purge and others await!
I really have enjoyed all three episodes I’ve seen. I’ll binge the rest this week. I saw David Jaffe really enjoying it, and since he made Twisted Metal, I take that as praise.
@Nightcrawler71 appreciate the advice! Remnant 1 had a similar re roll campaign that I never took advantage of. I did manage to find a few rings and really make progress yesterday on Yaesha so I’ll see how well my gunslinger fairs after finding some new loot.
@Nightcrawler71 I should have started with Handler but I really wanted to see how the game faired without the dog. Wish I hadn’t! I do hear the maze and the next world get easier because of gear and upgrades you’ve achieved by then.
And I wouldn’t have know about starting on different worlds either except that everyone I’ve talked to starts where you have and I had to look it up to see why I did! Apparently there are three main worlds you can visit in any order based on what the game rolls for you.
@Nightcrawler71 what world did you begin on? I’m traveling through Yaesha and have found it to be kind of a cruel opening world for solo play. Just so so many enemies at once that I’m doing a lot of run run run as I gun.
FF16 wrap up I think. I’m about 70% through whatever that means for hours left.
Beyond that still refusing to finish TOTK because I’ll lose all motivation to do other side stuff once I do.
Lastly Remnant 2. My goodness what a blast I’m having with it. It’s bigger and better and more refined Remnant 1. And I’m more into the lore having watch a couple of YouTube videos and realizing how much I didn’t know!
I’ve never gotten into Armored Core before but I’m excited for this one. Sadly I kinda wish it was a smaller game, as limited time means most of these games are wayyy to big for me anymore. I’ll still play it, I just prefer smaller, tighter experiences.
@get2sammyb same here. I use it for all my baby-toddler naps while I hold him as well as when my little girl watches her educational programming. So I’d get loads of use as my backbone has probably 30 hours or so of use in the last months.
@DennisReynolds I’m going to go out on a limb and say you haven’t played much FF. Every entry has tweaked things and been different since 1. Even 1-6 are all different in ways. With the intro of ATB you lost the turn based argument long ago. True turn based let’s me sit there and nothing ever happens until I move. Heck even 7 was divisive on reception. I know I’m old enough to have been there. People love it now but it was not always that way. 8 too changed up the way we approach everything after that.
Of course 16 has Eikons, Crystals, Fantasy setting, chocobos and more. How pray tell is it not FF? Heck, it even has several nods to IV if you know that game well enough.
Your entitled to that thought, but I tend to hear that though only from those who haven’t played it much or at all.
@KilloWertz it’s nice to see someone else share my sentiment on side quests. I’ve really enjoyed that they also help me feel like Clive care about more than just destruction and revenge as a character. Plus there are some real singers in there if you stick with them.
Feels like it’s popular to crap on FF16 everywhere I go. Honestly, 30 hours in, over 60% of it done and having done all side quests, I would say it’s an incredible game. Some of the side quests are dull, sure, but they fit Clive’s character and his desire to help people. It’s easily one of the best FF games in a long time. And has a lot of throwbacks to IV, which I really enjoy.
Day 1 for me even if I don’t get to it right away. I want to support devs like this and games of a smaller A style. First one I stuck about 60 hours in before moving on.
Haven’t finished the game yet, but knowing me, I’d love more. Then when it releases like all DLC I’ll buy it and then get to it like a year after that.
Having played almost every FF game, it’s Final Fantasy to the core. They change aspects of every game and no two FF games are identical. Problem really is Japan has moved on from console beyond Switch.
As for me, this is easily becoming one of the top 3 FF games for me. Sure the side quests aren’t great, but there are a few so far that I genuinely found fascinating (I won’t spoil it but the boy and the wolf one told an interesting tale). And the combat is incredible; not all FF games are turn based not need to be (ATB is arguably not turn based as you just can’t sit there and expect to not die).
@tomassi there are some nice additions, some gameplay tweaks for example. Graphically it’s clearly better, however, I felt like I picked up right where I left off a decade ago with some of the gameplay. I suppose that’s any sport really. For me, I had my fun with it and I think picking it up every 5-7 years makes it worth it, but I can see why yearly it would be a total waste.
@MB3108 I think that year of polish with the game being complete will go a long way. And every inch of the demo screams look how much money we spent on this! lol
Fantastic game. I sense if you like Steelrising or other games of the genre you’ll enjoy this as it’s up there with the best imitators. Just because From is king doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy others attempts. Imagine if people quit enjoying clones of Castlevania after it arrived or Doom.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 494
Like a broken record it feels but I’m almost at the end of Armored Core 6, then I may speed run NG+ and even NG++ as much as possible.
Also wrapping up the final leg of TOTK which I took a break from. I also need to wrap up Remnant 2.
I’d love to get into MK and Lies of P this week.
Lastly Sea of Stars. Taking my time through it and loving it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 493
@ear_wig I spent 20 mins grinding the wall mission boss to have enough money to buy most parts, then I just playing around until I found what worked.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 493
Armored Core 6. Highly satisfying as a puzzle game when you try to solve which pieces best fit which encounter haha.
Otherwise Sea of Stars, which is smartly designed and addictive in its combat loops.
Remnant 2 I’m at the end and keep rerolling other worlds for dungeon variants.
Lastly, I have a weird itch to play COD for the first time in probably 12 years so Modern Warfare 2 campaign is waiting on me.

@RaZieLDaNtE agreed! Discounts have saved me much more than strict purchases. Enjoy your weekend!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 492
An incredible weekend ahead here for me:
Armored Core 6
Wrap up Remnant 2
Sea of Stars
Wrap up TOTK
We are so spoiled in 2023.

Finally about to say goodbye to FF16 and TOTK.
From here on out it’s all about Remnant 2
Oh and both Twisted Metal games as well!
Re: Gunfire Games Set to Full-Auto, Fires Off a Million Copies of Remnant 2 in Four Days
Well deserved. Put a ton of hours into the first one and it never got old. Will be putting lots of time into this after FF16 and hopefully before AC6.

I really have enjoyed all three episodes I’ve seen. I’ll binge the rest this week. I saw David Jaffe really enjoying it, and since he made Twisted Metal, I take that as praise.

Re: PS Plus Extra, Premium Members Get This Anticipated PS5, PS4 RPG on Day One Next Month
This was a Day 1 for me anyway so this is probably the best news I could have gotten from PlayStation for August.

@get2sammyb same here. I use it for all my baby-toddler naps while I hold him as well as when my little girl watches her educational programming. So I’d get loads of use as my backbone has probably 30 hours or so of use in the last months.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 486
It’s a full one for me
Remnant 2 early access. Loved Remnant 1 and want to support GG as they make games I really enjoy.
Also working on FF16 and Diablo IV.
TOTK I don’t want to finish but can this weekend. Something about leaving it unfinished means I can always go back to a 1st playthrough lol.
Re: King Kong Game Skull Island: Rise of Kong Announced for PS5, PS4
If this was a Godzilla game I’d be all in (it’s looks a bit jank but I’m okay with that). Kong just never seemed as exciting.
Re: Legend Bowl Brings Retro Tecmo Bowl Vibes to PS5, PS4 Next Month

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 485
Well after many weeks of the same games, I think I’m almost near the end of some.
70 hours in TOTK I’m headed to the castle
35 hours in Diablo IV I am in the midst of ACT 5
25 hours into FF16 and I have no idea where I am, needless to say there is a score about to be settled
Beyond that looking to finally check out some other stuff, maybe downloading Gal Guardians Demon Purge. Who knows!
Re: 18 More Games Join PS Plus Extra, Premium Next Week
Snowrunner, Melty Blood, and Sniper Elite are all great. Different strokes I guess.
Re: Final Fantasy 16 DLC Is Now an Option Being Considered by Square Enix

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 484
I’m the broken record of TOTK and FF16 and Diablo IV. Dad life keeps me busy.
However I felt the need to now add FF4 via Pixel Remasters to that list!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 483
I feel like a broken record but as a dad with little time and lots to play:
FF16
Tears of the Kingdom
Diablo IV
Slowly knocking out each one!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 482
@KAIRU really loved Remnant. I still dip back in from time to time.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 482
The unholy trio of
FF16
Diablo IV
Tears of the Kingdom
I’ve downloaded other games, but they just feel like a nice decoration at the moment.
Re: Final Fantasy 16 PS5 Pre-Load Available Now
@MB3108 I think that year of polish with the game being complete will go a long way. And every inch of the demo screams look how much money we spent on this! lol

I’m ready. Hit the button this morning. That demo! I couldn’t wait anymore I had to play it while I waited.
Re: Hot Off Demo Hype, Lies of P Gets Impressive 9 Minute Gameplay Showcase
Fantastic game. I sense if you like Steelrising or other games of the genre you’ll enjoy this as it’s up there with the best imitators. Just because From is king doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy others attempts. Imagine if people quit enjoying clones of Castlevania after it arrived or Doom.
