So, I was clearly not the target audience for this one Outside of Clair Obscur, there were only two games that piqued my interest, Hear Tell of a Haunting and Sintopia. And even with those I will need to know much more.
@Dr-M I was watching "Spermageddon", a Norwegian animated comedy for adults (in the vein of "Sausage Party"). Infantile humour, much of which didn't land, but there was enough that did for me to enjoy it. I skipped "A Minecraft Movie" this weekend, as there were other things I rather spent my time on (I've taken up hobby-coding again). I haven't completely ruled out going in the future, but there are quite a few new interesting releases here in April, so it's doubtful I'll find the time for it.
This is interesting. I had absolutely no interest in this movie, but then the trailer ran in front of another movie I saw recently, and I chuckled at a few things and found the Momoa/Black energy enticing. So I booked a ticket for this coming Saturday, thinking that maybe it can give me a few chuckles and some levity amidst the constant horrorshow that is real life these days. The LA Times review seemed to echo this, but then I read the Hollywood Reporter excerpt and there is so much truth in that that I'm now considering cancelling my ticket. Sure, there is nothing wrong with wanting some light fun and easy escape from the flaming hellscape that consumes every waking moment, but is it worth sacrificing imagination and creativity on the altar of corporate greed in order to do so? Annoyingly, I'm unsure
As an example, with today's exchange rate, Assassin's Creed Shadows would cost me $87, 44 US, so I'm used to the $80 mark already. With a general $10 price hike across the board, I would probably be looking at close to $100 for a new game. So, a continued hard pass from me. I suppose I will have to wait even longer for a sale to hit a price I'm comfortable with (as an example: I still haven't seen an attractive sale price for Spider-Man 2 or GOW:Ragnarok, two games I really want). Luckily, I've got a backlog to see me through several years, so I can wait
I always say that people should travel more, expand their horizons, experience other cultures and see how other people live. I truly believe it leads to becoming a better and more tolerant person. Though, clearly, some people definitely needs to stay home, and make no mistake, this is not a cultural thing where only western tourists fail to be respectful, it's a personality thing. There are plenty of respectful western tourists and disrespectful non-western tourists.
I second @SeanOhOgain Saying it "kind of" ruined my plans is plain untrue, as it was never my plan to play anything but offline (and rarely is). Still, it was the one I picked
@Dagoth-Ur I just watched two episodes of "Severance" and one of "Mythic Quest" on the Apple TV+ app on PS5, so there is network connectivity, but probably only for things not requiring any kind of PSN auth or integration.
@BlaizeV While I am mildly interested in the game, I too share your sentiment. We will be inundated with articles covering every minutiae possible. Not looking forward to that.
Currently playing Shadowrun Returns, which I am enjoying immensely so far, and I'm also dipping in and out of Uncharted 4 when I feel the need for something a bit more action-y. Just finished the auction heist in the early game and had a lot of fun with that.
@bestuardo This was my impression, too... only watched the first three and Exodus and while the Exodus ep made me even more excited for the game, I didn't feel the story gave me much (other than explain the time dilation mechanic, which I already knew about). The others were just empty calories (though I did chuckle a few times at the one with Arnold)
@Matthewnh Would absolutely love to see/hear more about the next ME! I wonder how far off it is; are we talking 2027 or later? I'm pretty sure Exodus will come out before it, though, and it will probably keep me busy a while
Been following this game closely for a year (and Archetype since they founded) and I'm still the most excited for an upcoming game as I've ever been.
And for those who feel the MC looks a bit too progressive, there will be a character creator where you can make Jun your own (yes, even female <gasp!>).
The livestream Q&A where they debuted this trailer yesterday was pretty solid and they touched upon how the time dilation thing worked, mission structures and things like that.
Not sure if it's available still, but I wouldn't be surprised.
Oh, and the Peter F. Hamilton prequel novel is very good!
I'm still holding out hope that my most anticipated game since ME3, Exodus, comes out some time next year, but since there's no release date, it's not on the list (gameplay reveal trailer dropped just today; sad that it wasn't mentioned on the site).
So, I went for Clair, Crimson Desert, Yotei, Indy and Marvel. Tried and gave up on GTAV no less than three times and couldn't get past the loathsome characters, so GTAVI isn't really high on my list.
@Gremio108 Hahahaha, that conjured an image of a rest home with a bunch of shriveled, toothless Abe Simpson look-a-likes sitting around waving their arms and shouting in consternation "Moist Critical! Moist Critical"
I realised just today, as I discovered the existence of a "smart" bracelet/armband that only functions as a Pokemon detector for Pokemon GO and can automatically catch them for you, that playing games is obviously waaaaay to taxing for today's youth This article, therefore, comes as no surprise
Very interested in these; these are the kinds of games that should have remakes: older games no longer readily available that could do with today's more powerful engines running them. I completed them both back in the day and would love to go back. Hope the magic is still there, though
@QualityGeezer Quite possible, and I wouldn't blame them for either of those reasons. Would love to see the adaptation of the final books. Been a little while since I read them now, but I think it would possible to adapt them fairly faithfully without having the massive time jump (I may be forgetting aspects that wouldn't work without it, though)
@QualityGeezer Yeah, absolutely. Now that they've exited the God of War adaptation, they should be free to tackle this. They worked on "Iron Man" with Arad, so I would be surprised if they weren't approached, or at least on a shortlist, when GoW fell through. Casey feels all kinds of wrong for this, but he seems to be the guy they went with, for whatever reason.
@valtianeea It's almost reminiscent of the Uwe Boll era of "let's finance cr@p movies for tax purposes". The mind boggles; they would probably have a better chance of success hiring unproven writers without a single writing credit to their name than hiring creators of notorious flops
@ShadowofSparta Exodus has indeed passed the next Mass Effect on my excite-o-meter and that Hamilton novel really delivered for me. Hopefully the game does as well!
As I wrote in the TV Show forum thread before this article appeared, I can't muster any enthusiasm for this project with these people involved. I'm a big fan of the silliness, stupidity and brashness of the Fast & Furious franchise, but I don't want any of that in my Mass Effect, thank you very much.
In my opinion, the only way this can conceivably succeed is if they
a) avoid retelling Shepard's story
b) make it animation to get more alien bang for the buck
(noted, "Arcane" has proven that animation can be excessively expensive, but I think you can tell more fantastical stories cheaper with animation than with live-action, in general)
My dream setting would be a story that's "Shepard adjacent". It takes place in the same timeline, but does not feature Shepard herself, except maybe some vague references. Other characters from the game could make brief cameos as fan service, but the story should be wholly original, in my opinion
@Fishnpeas With my game, movie, tv show and book backlogs, I'm rarely, if ever, bored But, yeah, it would absolutely be a worthwhile project if it means I can play some of my old faves without the need for having the console hooked up. Thanks for the info
@IntrepidWombat Aha, that's pretty sweet. My x360 is in storage as I haven't currently the space for it, but with this I potentially won't need it. Very good to know! Thanks
@Fishnpeas Right. Never really entertained the notion, as emulators more often than not requires downloading game images illegally. Can I run my x360 discs directly with this emulator? (I expect not, but hope I'm wrong)
@Fiendish-Beaver Yeah, that is indeed a solid strike against my theory. Though, a gameplay reveal at Keighley's christmas thing with a "summer 2025" release announcement... let's pretend that isn't entirely outside the realm of possibility and more than just a fantasy dream from me
@Fiendish-Beaver I dunno, I'm sort of thinking next year, maybe even first half. They've been properly ramping up the media output the last six months or so, and with the novel and tie-in episode of the upcoming "Secret Level" anthology series releasing now, it seems that a release date announcement may be imminent.
I've been following all the reveals at the site closely, as this is easily my most eagerly anticipated game for a very, very long time. For those who like reading sci-fi space operas, I heartily recommend the prequel novel, "Exodus: The Archimedes Engine" by Peter F. Hamilton. Fantastic stuff!
With my backlog I have absolutely no need to play a game day one (though sometimes I will pre-order games to show support, as I did with "Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden"). That being said, I don't mind the practice; if people feel it's worth the extra money it's good they have the option.
I will also only consider Ultimate/Deluxe/Whatever editions of a game if it has extra gameplay (like a season pass for expansions), otherwise the regular game will work fine for me
@ShadowofSparta I'm about halfway in and so far it has been excellent! Set 40,000 years before the game, but the world-building... well, universe-building, they are doing is magnificent. They have a few short stories on the game's website that are uniformly excellent as well
I'm there for the Exodus episode; I'm steeping myself in its lore at the moment, with the excellent novel from Peter F. Hamilton. I'm so looking forward to that game; more so than any other game for as long as I can remember (even more than the new Mass Effect game, and if you know me, that says a lot )
@LikelySatan That is indeed all it says, but it led to complaints of a "soft society" so I pointed out that financial motives were just as likely. Not saying that was the case, but just as likely. My guess? There were never any conscious decision to exclude spiders in the first place, but that's just my guess.
@dark_knightmare2 The thought process here isn't necessarily "oh poor arachnophobes, let's cater to them" as much as "hmm, arachnophobes have money too, let's remove any obstacles for them to give it to us"
I just played and really enjoyed the demo, so I will be getting this. I will, however, wait a few years until Atlus has released three or four new versions of the game, all with different additional content

@Quintumply Yeah, I'm leaning towards error, but I'll check in at 8 just in case
Re: Galaxies Is Yet Another Gaming Showcase, Featuring 50+ Announcements and Updates
@Quintumply Heads up: The Twitch site indicates 8pm CEST. Pre-show, maybe? Says 20-22 CEST in the schedule here https://www.twitch.tv/galaxiesshow/schedule
EDIT: It also says 3pm US Eastern, which converts to 9pm CEST, so I think maybe the time converter Twitch uses may be off?

@roe I miss their old Show of the Week, so much fun!

@Oram77 I'm with you on that (still love me some Yakuza, though)

Too bad. This is easily my favourite game of the genre and a movie with Donnie Yen would have been excellent. But, alas.
