Very interested in these; these are the kinds of games that should have remakes: older games no longer readily available that could do with today's more powerful engines running them. I completed them both back in the day and would love to go back. Hope the magic is still there, though
@QualityGeezer Quite possible, and I wouldn't blame them for either of those reasons. Would love to see the adaptation of the final books. Been a little while since I read them now, but I think it would possible to adapt them fairly faithfully without having the massive time jump (I may be forgetting aspects that wouldn't work without it, though)
@QualityGeezer Yeah, absolutely. Now that they've exited the God of War adaptation, they should be free to tackle this. They worked on "Iron Man" with Arad, so I would be surprised if they weren't approached, or at least on a shortlist, when GoW fell through. Casey feels all kinds of wrong for this, but he seems to be the guy they went with, for whatever reason.
@valtianeea It's almost reminiscent of the Uwe Boll era of "let's finance cr@p movies for tax purposes". The mind boggles; they would probably have a better chance of success hiring unproven writers without a single writing credit to their name than hiring creators of notorious flops
@ShadowofSparta Exodus has indeed passed the next Mass Effect on my excite-o-meter and that Hamilton novel really delivered for me. Hopefully the game does as well!
As I wrote in the TV Show forum thread before this article appeared, I can't muster any enthusiasm for this project with these people involved. I'm a big fan of the silliness, stupidity and brashness of the Fast & Furious franchise, but I don't want any of that in my Mass Effect, thank you very much.
In my opinion, the only way this can conceivably succeed is if they
a) avoid retelling Shepard's story
b) make it animation to get more alien bang for the buck
(noted, "Arcane" has proven that animation can be excessively expensive, but I think you can tell more fantastical stories cheaper with animation than with live-action, in general)
My dream setting would be a story that's "Shepard adjacent". It takes place in the same timeline, but does not feature Shepard herself, except maybe some vague references. Other characters from the game could make brief cameos as fan service, but the story should be wholly original, in my opinion
@Fishnpeas With my game, movie, tv show and book backlogs, I'm rarely, if ever, bored But, yeah, it would absolutely be a worthwhile project if it means I can play some of my old faves without the need for having the console hooked up. Thanks for the info
@IntrepidWombat Aha, that's pretty sweet. My x360 is in storage as I haven't currently the space for it, but with this I potentially won't need it. Very good to know! Thanks
@Fishnpeas Right. Never really entertained the notion, as emulators more often than not requires downloading game images illegally. Can I run my x360 discs directly with this emulator? (I expect not, but hope I'm wrong)
@Fiendish-Beaver Yeah, that is indeed a solid strike against my theory. Though, a gameplay reveal at Keighley's christmas thing with a "summer 2025" release announcement... let's pretend that isn't entirely outside the realm of possibility and more than just a fantasy dream from me
@Fiendish-Beaver I dunno, I'm sort of thinking next year, maybe even first half. They've been properly ramping up the media output the last six months or so, and with the novel and tie-in episode of the upcoming "Secret Level" anthology series releasing now, it seems that a release date announcement may be imminent.
I've been following all the reveals at the site closely, as this is easily my most eagerly anticipated game for a very, very long time. For those who like reading sci-fi space operas, I heartily recommend the prequel novel, "Exodus: The Archimedes Engine" by Peter F. Hamilton. Fantastic stuff!
With my backlog I have absolutely no need to play a game day one (though sometimes I will pre-order games to show support, as I did with "Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden"). That being said, I don't mind the practice; if people feel it's worth the extra money it's good they have the option.
I will also only consider Ultimate/Deluxe/Whatever editions of a game if it has extra gameplay (like a season pass for expansions), otherwise the regular game will work fine for me
@ShadowofSparta I'm about halfway in and so far it has been excellent! Set 40,000 years before the game, but the world-building... well, universe-building, they are doing is magnificent. They have a few short stories on the game's website that are uniformly excellent as well
I'm there for the Exodus episode; I'm steeping myself in its lore at the moment, with the excellent novel from Peter F. Hamilton. I'm so looking forward to that game; more so than any other game for as long as I can remember (even more than the new Mass Effect game, and if you know me, that says a lot )
@LikelySatan That is indeed all it says, but it led to complaints of a "soft society" so I pointed out that financial motives were just as likely. Not saying that was the case, but just as likely. My guess? There were never any conscious decision to exclude spiders in the first place, but that's just my guess.
@dark_knightmare2 The thought process here isn't necessarily "oh poor arachnophobes, let's cater to them" as much as "hmm, arachnophobes have money too, let's remove any obstacles for them to give it to us"
I just played and really enjoyed the demo, so I will be getting this. I will, however, wait a few years until Atlus has released three or four new versions of the game, all with different additional content
@dschons Ah, that's too bad... I've platinumed the original and wouldn't mind a new playthrough with this to see the updated material, but not at this price point. Might still go for it at a serious discount down the line, unless it's completely unplayable?
I've only played Yakuza 0 - 3, but I'm a big fan of the series and plan on playing the rest (though new ones are releasing faster than I can play them, so impossible to know how far I'll get). This looks absolutely brilliant to me, and I concur with @nessisonett's assessment; my thoughts exactly
I only buy games at launch if I feel the devs both need and deserve it. Voting with my wallet, as it were. Even then, I probably won't play them for several months as I know there will be patches and improvements incoming.
This is sad Seems only yesterday that Commodore User folded, and now this. Was this the last gaming print magazine or are there others still holding on?
@NEStalgia Alyx is of course the big draw here, but I was hoping to find some other, practical applications for my VR headset. As I understand you here, the PSVR2 isn't particularly well suited for that? Still, cheap enough for some experimentation, so I'll probably get VD. (Hmm, I should probably rephrase that)
@NEStalgia Thanks for clearing that up by confusing me even further But, OK, I think I get it. Seems to me that should I decide to buy the adapter (I already own the PSVR2 headset) I should have access to pretty much everything not locked inside the Meta ecosystem, and that is satisfactory
@NEStalgia Aha, so if I understand you correctly, the Meta headsets use Oculus Link while all other PCVRs use Steam? And outside of those two options, there is no VR experience on PC? If so, then it's no big deal. I'm not a fan of "walled gardens" on PC, but if I had to choose one, then Steam would absolutely be it
Isn't it a bit disingenuous to call it a PC adapter when it seems like it is very much a Steam adapter? I mean, unless I've misunderstood this, nothing outside Steam will work with the headset, right? I don't know if there are any worthwhile VR titles on the other storefronts (Epic, Windows) that aren't also available on Steam, so it might not matter at all, but it still seems a bit of a misnomer to me. Though, I suppose simply calling it a Steam adapter would be inaccurate as well, as it presumably won't work with Steam on a Mac. Either way, disappointing that it will only work with Steam games
@Sequel "Also, make a note of the word 'gobbledygook' - I like it! I want to use it more often in conversation" - Sir A.C.H. Melchett, Blackadder Goes Forth
It looks gorgeous in places and then it looks quite janky in others (the first shot of the arena combat sequence looked really out of place), so I echo @SeanOhOgain's worry that they have exquisite trailers covering a janky game. Time (and reviews) will tell, but I am intrigued and will keep an eye out.
@thefourfoldroot1 Agreed, though I should mention that the article goes on to say that an investigation had cleared him of the charges. On the flip side, it also states that the 12 staffers who filed the allegations were never contacted by the investigation team.
So, difficult to know what the full truth is here, but for 12 people to band together and file a complaint against you, you probably did something wrong
@thefourfoldroot1 @nomither6 @Malaise According to an article at CBR.com:
"Allegations against Blackman were reported in an HR complaint in January 2023, claiming the showrunner had a "long history of toxic, bullying, manipulative, and retaliatory behavior." It included allegations that Blackman fostered a "toxic workplace by pitting staffers against one another; creating an environment of fear and distrust; taking credit for other people’s work; and allegedly making lewd remarks that sources say they found to be sexist, homophobic, and transphobic." Additionally, there were two other complaints made by a writer and an actress"
Hoping a demo will be available, as I'm excited for this game, but I will need to try it out to see if the checkpointing is generous enough for me, especially since enemies respawn at death (I hate having to play large sections over and over again in order to learn the moves of the boss at the end).
The Future Game Show and Xbox did it for me this year and had a few games between them that got me excited. The rest was poor and the only interesting parts of Ubisoft, for me, was just a longer retread of things already seen (Outlaws and Shadows)
@Jacko11 If so, I'm imagining it too I kind of like it the way things are and if they introduce more "in your face" announcements for updates to live service games, there has to be an option to turn it off. I will never play games "on a schedule" and I like being able to turn on my console and start the game or streaming app I turned my console on for without having a bunch of other stuff screaming at me that I'm missing out on limited time content for some game in my library that I don't care about (either because I'm done with it, not yet ready to get stuck in with it or simply because it came as a PS Plus game and I didn't realize it was a live service game in the first place)
@Th3solution I'm with you on that! For a long time I was so happy that there were very few games to look forward to, so that I could concentrate on my backlog, then this comes along and ruins everything
I'll have a look at the gameplay reveal, but so far my excitement level for this remains low. Like most others, that art style did not do it for me and I am getting a little bit worried about the next Mass Effect game (though I don't expect them to mess to much with the existing formula there)
Whether it's money well spent or not, I know that the MS showcase, along with The Future Games Show, got me more excited for upcoming games than Sony has managed for over a year now. I'm really glad I have invested in a behemoth of a gaming rig as I will not be going back to Xbox, but there are plenty of games coming from the Green Team that I want to play.

I'm not too bothered, though, my backlog is so massive that I've got more than enough to play, so the fact that there's only one single upcoming game I'm excited for (that would be "Exodus") isn't that big of a deal
