Re: GTA 6 Publisher Is Anticipating a PS5 Pro

Gamer_Guy

@Andy22385 Yes, I agree. By the time this comes out people who bought the OG PS5 will have had up to four years or so use of it, they are still free to keep it, trade it in against the new model, whatever they want to do. Silly for people to argue it's somehow a slight at such buyers to bring out a more powerful model.

I mean....that new TV that Sony brought out this year? Damn them - I bought one just a couple of years ago and this model does everything better. Real slap in the face. That phone I bought last year from Google? Bloody new Pixels are far better and Google had no right to do it.

Etc. Etc.

Re: Soapbox: I No Longer Think Subscriptions Like PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Are the Future of Gaming

Gamer_Guy

I lucked into a long Extra upgrade thanks to the loophole with PS Now when it started, and I imagined I'd be all over it, an embarrassment of riches presented to me for 'free'. All those hours I'd be tucking into the stuff on Extra....

Turns out since then that I've spent more time on the games I own than those on Extra, and that goes for games I've played loads and some off the backlog.

I just don't like that feeling that what comes and goes from the sub library is out of my control...it bothers me far more than I thought it would, and it also affects the way I play the games on there too.

So I do get this article. If Extra disappeared tomorrow I wouldn't really miss it, which logically sounds crazy, but it's how it is for me at least.

Re: PS Plus Premium Embraces Evil with Cult of the Lamb Trial

@KaijuKaiser Sadly, yes! I was about to jump back in but saw the stuff on social media about the new update and after the first time around I knew better than to doubt much of it.

I'm sure they'll sort it, but some of the crashes and bugs are so obvious you do wonder how on earth they get missed in any kind of testing.

Great game though when it works

Re: Scalped PS5 Prices Plummet as Retail Stock Surges

Gamer_Guy

@Toypop as someone with a degree in economics whose dissertation was titled 'Perfect Market or Imperfect Indifference? Factors affecting equilibrium in postmodern supply and demand models', you're basically correct.

The (free)market will always find its price re supply and demand. In hindsight, yes, scalpers took a portion of the additional profit that Sony could have made by pricing the console higher, but when exogenous supply shocks that radically shift the whole supply curve (COVID) like this occur, companies have other considerations such as customer relationships, forward contracts, uncertainty about realised demand at such levels and so on. This is why eBay auctions, like them or not, are the closest we will ever get to 'perfect competition', as it's called in economics.

'banning' scalping would work about as well as banning drugs...it just goes into a black market where the likelihood is that prices would be even higher due to increased friction from even tighter supply.

TL;DR People can grumble about scalping as much as they like. It's a consequence of supply shocks to a free market system that is far far better than any alternative.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077's New PC Update Is a Glimpse of the Future for Game Graphics

Ray tracing is obviously the future standard at some point, but imo nowhere near there yet, and the implementations on current gen consoles aren't worth the sacrifices in resolution or detail for me.

I just go for the 60fps and I don't miss not having ray tracing. Even with insomniac games, I tried the Performance RT modes but soon went back to regular Performance mode because I didn't enjoy the drop in world detail and resolution for it.

Maybe PS6, certainly PS7, not PS5.

Re: EA Sports PGA Tour (PS5) - Truly Stunning Sim Plays a Very Pretty Round of Virtual Golf

Gamer_Guy

No 'press a couple of buttons to swing' easy option?

It looks amazing and I suppose if a game has to have 30fps to get those visuals then this is the kind of game it matters less on.

However, I always find I start golf.games eagerly and with the best intentions, but soon get bored and/or frustrated with the mechanics and repetition. Much like the game itself.

Won't buy but will definitely watch a few let's plays on YouTube.

Re: Soapbox: Hold On, Is the PS3 a Retro Console?

Gamer_Guy

Try being 50+ and hearing 30 year olds talk as if they're getting old! I remember when my C64 felt retro, let alone the PS3. 🤣

On the positive side, I'm far fitter, happier and more relaxed now that I ever was at that age, and enjoying my gaming more than ever, so don't panic quite yet. 👍
