Anthem was the top selling game in PS Store, it was top game for two weeks in the UK, and now top in the NPD without PC sales numbers, it seems the game is selling well.
Now, it might not sell the 6 million EA wanted in the first quarter, but it's not a Mass Effect Andromeda disaster.
If Sony is publishing, they will continue to make money from these games. It is possible that Sony is exploring other avenues to make money from some of their games.
Last year the only games that top 100k unit sold were Dissidia FF NT and SSBU. I was looking at the archive of "japenese sales charts" of this site, and the headlines for almost all the fighting games contain the word "barely". Is there a reason to believe that fighting games sold a lot in Japan?
With the increase of cloud storage from 10GB to 100GB and the increase of the quality of the two games (at least, for now), for me, is a good deal. Probably one more game (small one) could alleviate the change.
As for VR titles, I think the size of the library is not that extensive, and many of the VR titles are more experiences than proper games.
I'm curious to see how it performs sales-wise. Looking from a perspective of a more casual gamer, the game-play it's interesting, at least the mobility seems to be fun (I don't think there is a game that lets you play as Iron Man ).
Shawn Layden specifically said in the interview about not doing E3: "And with our decision to do fewer games — bigger games — over longer periods of time, we got to a point where June of 2019 was not a time for us to have a new thing to say. And we feel like if we ring the bell and people show up here in force, people have expectation 'Oh, they're going to tell us something.'". So you can expect that if there is going to be news to share, is going to be at the latter half of 2019.
This divorce could be a blessing for Anthem (if they don't fumble the launch). Bungie, for now, has only confirmed that they gonna roll out the remaining of the roadmap (that end on summer 2019) for Destiny 2, and without the resources of Activision (specially the supporting studios), it's gonna be hard to have some big fall content launch. EA and BioWare could use this opportunity to occupy Destiny market. After all, no one belived that Fortnite could topple PUBG from the to spot.
Many of the old properties could have the remake/reboot treatment (specially PS1, PS2 and PSP titles) akin to Ratchet, Crash, Spyro and RE2.
I would like to see a reboot of the Getaway, ditching the open-world and focusing in the story.
I don't play Destiny, but if Bungie changed the focus of the next Destiny game to more cinematic single-player experience, that would be sweet (it would have multy-player, of course).
A corporation or a person determine a price of a product. Is up to the consumer to decide if it want to pay that price. And since we are talking video-games, you can always wait for a promotion.
@ShogunRok
I think Capcom should have made SFV, from the beginning, a free-to-play game with 8 characters (think DOA5 Core Fighters).
The problem is, at that time, F2P was an ugly word for console gaming, and something that devalues a franchise, specially a renown franchise like SF.
@ShogunRok
SFV was always geared to eSport. And this, is another move to capitalize on that regard.
You are right about Akuma's Raging Demon having an advert in the context of the character is silly. But in the context of a tournament like EVO or Capcom Cup? Is an opportunity to get more revenue for those events. In the end, is just a business move.
@Flaming_Kaiser Jimquisition was wrong in that statement. Like it says in the article "You can turn the advertising off, foregoing a small trickle of additional Fight Money in the process", if you leave ads on, you get an additional 12FM (really CAPCOM!!!). I recommend reading https://www.vg247.com/2018/12/12/street-fighter-5-in-game-ads/ for more.
In my opinion, the objective of these advertises are to be used in tournaments and it going to be interesting to see how this is going to be implemented.
@Bliquid The idea is not discriminate, but provide a platform for women in eSport to have visibility. For example, Laureus World Sports Awards have awards for Men, Women and Teams.
@get2sammyb About the announcements. While true, we are at the end of the generation, Keighley was tweeting that it was the VGA with the most world premiers. Also, the biggest troll of the evening, bringing the Russo Brothers to deliver an award
About the announcements, I was a bit surprise for how many games are "play with friends cooperative and gather resources". Is there still space in the market for this kind of games?
@Bliquid Are you being serious?
I'm using the logic of Oscars/Golden Globe/FIFA Football awards and many more, as a way to allow women more exposure.
Melissanthi Mahut as Kassandra deserved a win.
Some changes would be welcomed:
Cut most eSport categories, and separate the category Best eSport Player in two (Male and Female);
Scrap Best Action Game (the category Best Action/Adventure Game is enough);
Separate the category Best Performance in two (Male and Female);
Stop announcing award in the pre-show;
If you don't have time to announce every award, cut some of the musical performances;
And stop using "World Premier" in expansion and DLCs.
@get2sammyb True, but when you use a term like "losing momentum" it makes you think about company performance (more about sales, than social-media presence). Your subtitle "Sammy's fed up with Sony shutting us out" was probably a better title.
So, are fans still thinking that PlayStation is losing momentum (https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2018/11/soapbox_fans_think_playstations_losing_momentum_and_sonys_to_blame)?

@Frigate Not so positive. Go, and read the comment section of the Playstation blog.
