I’m a big fan of the rewind feature and the save anywhere.
As an adult with limited time, I like that I don’t need to keep tracking back and replaying levels because of a mistimed jump or needed to stop playing half way through a level.
While I loved the challenge of games when I was younger, I sure do like easy mode nowadays.
@Flaming_Kaiser I don’t think there will ever be a time when Sony and Microsoft don’t save their best for themselves (unless one stops making consoles).
I was meaning more with some of their acquisitions that always released games multi platform but now will be owned by them. Kind of like how MLB The Show is made by Sony but is on Game Pass. I think we will see a few more owned by the other releasing multi platform.
I was just saying how it will mess with the fanboys minds but also hopefully break down barriers for better cross play. There are still a lot of games that don’t have the option and it helps everyone if more cross platform games have it.
I may be one of the few people who loves FF7:R as a nearly faultless remaster of one of my favourite games. They really brought the world of my childhood to life.
I’d happily support buying it again on my Xbox and want more people to experience it.
Obviously news of the sequel would also be appreciated.
Well, we are saying the same thing. The difference is, you see those third party games as part of what makes PlayStation and Xbox suitable for adults but not Switch when they are third party games on all of them.
Mortal Kombat 11 is on Switch, Xbox and PS4 for example. And that is one of the games we have both mentioned.
All Nintendo games are kid friendly. That’s part of their philosophy and I’ve not disputed that. The Switch is the best family console. However, I still stand that the Switch still has adult appeal.
Let’s bear in mind that the average age for gamers is in their mid-30s.
Nintendo shared Switch demographics so we can see for ourselves.
The vast majority of Switch owners (75%) are adults aged 20-45.
The largest demographic of Switch owners are aged 20-25 years old.
There is not a single group of kids that beats any adult group until you reach the over 40s.
So, yeah. Nintendo makes kid friendly games, but they aren’t all for kids.
Thought I’d add in @Col_McCafferty and @nomither6 to help show the stats above.
No one is arguing that Nintendo doesn’t make kid friendly games. That is their appeal. But they have a lot to offer and to dismiss Switch entirely is closed minded.
Personally, I play PS4/5 and PC games for 95% of my time. But I have still enjoyed the Switch and you cannot go wrong with any console as long as you have an open mind. But if you want more mature games then of course, Switch isn’t the best option, but it’s still an acceptable one, especially for someone on a budget or who needs gaming on the go (busy house with few TVs, lots of travel etc).
@RevGaming I think you are missing the point a bit.
The claim I’m refuting is that Switch has “nothing but kids games” which is wrong.
All the big three consoles are amazing and have something for everyone. However, PlayStation and Xbox offer way less family friendly games than the Switch. Does that mean they’re rubbish for kids? Nope.
So why do people make out the Switch has nothing but kids games when there are clearly a lot of games for all gaming types?
It obviously isn’t the best choice if you only want first person shooters or something. But it doesn’t make it a bad console or that it has nothing to offer when clearly it does.
Also, your Pokémon point makes no sense. Pokémon is a kids game. That’s not a debate. But Nintendo does produce quality games with challenge. You cannot say “Smash is easy” unless you can go to a pro tournament and win it.
There are many examples of easy to play games with high skill caps.
Mario Kart 8, Splatoon 2 and Smash Bros are all easy for kids to play. But play pros at those games and they will wipe the floor with any child.
The same goes for popular competitive games on all consoles, Rocket League, Fortnite, Apex Legends, FIFA, Call of Duty etc. they are all easy to play for kids. But the skill ceiling is very high.
There is a reason there is a competitive scene for these games where gamers are paid to play. Because they earn it with their talent. And multiple Nintendo games suit that category.
Switch games that are 18+: Doom Eternal, The Witcher 3, Mortal Kombat 11, Grand Theft Auto games, Skyrim, Dying Light, Dark Souls, Dead by Daylight, World War Z, Diablo 3 etc.
Switch games with challenge: Dark Souls, Cuphead, Hollow Knight, Celeste, Ikaruga etc.
Online multiplayer games also offer challenge such as Rocket League, Fortnite, etc, but these also including fighting games like Dragon Ball FighterZ, MK11 etc which was in the tournament scene.
Nintendo’s first party games also offer some great online multiplayer with high skill ceilings such as Mario Kart 8, Splatoon 2 and of course Super Smash Bros Ultimate which also has pro tournaments.
I’m not claiming it’s the best console for all things hardcore, but it has a massive selection of games for all types of gamers and to claim there are no games for adults or a more hardcore audience is naive.
@Col_McCafferty just because games are suitable for kids doesn’t mean they are “kids games”.
I would class Breath of the Wild as a mature game that children can play. My kids both love it as do I.
However, the same vibes I get from Breath of the Wild I also get from Horizon Zero Dawn. Clearly not a kids game, but not much different in terms of maturity and feel (imho).
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is also a very kid friendly game. But try and get three stars on tournaments in the 200cc mode and you’ll be dreaming of playing something easier. It takes skill and dedication far beyond that of a child.
The Switch excels in family friendly content, yes, but it also has a wealth of games that cater to older and more hardcore players. Not to mention the fact there are hundreds of 18+ rated games on it.
Both my children have a Switch. We also have Xboxes and PlayStations, but if I was to choose the best one for them, it would easily be the Switch.
They can play it anywhere without taking up a TV. It is especially useful on long journeys and going on vacation. If they get stuck on a game they can bring it to me to help them rather than me having to go to them. Games are cheaper and hold their value (great for trading) and Nintendo Online having a family plan is great. It’s simple things that really make it more versatile for families.
It isn’t the best if you want all the AAA titles or the latest Call of Duty or the best graphics. But it has a wealth of titles to suit all gaming styles and having a handheld console will compliment any gamer’s collection, and that’s why it’s selling so well.
I hate to be “that guy” but some of the political / anti-Qatar comments that are allowed on this article would be removed if talking about other issues.
I love Push Square, but your policy on not allowing political comments isn’t very consistent.
(I’m not pro-Qatar btw and the walking sim comment was funny).
I’m not going to play this game until I can pick it up for under £20 and the game is bug free.
The first game is my favourite from last gen. So I wanted to play this straight away, but my money and time are precious and I want the best experience possible for this.
Patience is a virtue. At least with single player games.
This generation my PS5 is just for their exclusives. I play all Multiplayer and Third Party games on Xbox.
Why? Because they didn’t mess me about with upgrades between generations. I just bought one game disc and it gave me both Xbox generations of that game. I didn’t have to buy a PS4 and PS5 disc separately (or risk there being no upgrade).
Also, I bought Game Pass Ultimate for three years stacking Gold Live and upgrading all the months for £1. Easy upgrades for subs is something Xbox allows but Sony doesn’t.
Things like this article and their handling of things of late don’t make me regret that decision.
I still love my PlayStation 5, but last gen it was the other way around. My PS4 was my go to console for everything except Xbox and Nintendo exclusives.
On Xbox, I bought 3 years of Xbox Live Gold and then paid for one month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and it upgraded all my Gold Live to GPU.
That was a massive saving for me and something Microsoft allows.
I love PlayStation, but it’s really becoming a place I only play exclusives. Xbox is my Multiplayer/Third Party machine because it is more consumer friendly. All my Xbox One games come with Series X upgrades for example.
As a Dad who is forced to play this with my kids, no building is welcome.
99% of players only build sparingly. Use it to get up and down things. Or to wall off while healing.
Then you have the 1% who build a skyscraper around you in the blink of an eye, stick you in the middle of it and shoot you dead while you just stand there like an idiot.
It makes the skill cap on the game very high which is great for elite play. But it’s so unfair for us casuals going up against those players.
They could come up with a compromise. Like cool-downs so you can place one building piece every 2 seconds or something. That would work also.
You’ve hit the nail on the head. Xbox actually encourages cross gen support.
You see it when something is advertised for physical release. The picture shows one disc gets you all Xbox One and Series access, but PlayStation “believes in generations” and as such you have to buy either the PS4 or PS5 version.
This is why I personally have turned to Xbox for multi platform games (which are the majority I spend my time on) while Sony is now just for exclusives.
@tomic20 I wish I could lose $20 billion and be “fine”.
I’m not saying they’re doomed, but they will not be sitting around feeling fine like us fans who are looking on form the outside without any risks. Instead they will be making sure they secure their company and working harder than before. If not they’re being foolish.
Call of Duty is a system seller, and I think people don’t realise how much it has impacted generations.
In the Xbox 360 vs PS3 era, CoD was better on Xbox with exclusives and content coming a month before Sony. It helped the Xbox win the first half of that generation.
In the PS4 vs Xbox One era: CoD was better on PlayStation, with Sony having marketing rights and exclusives items available only on PlayStation.
Now, CoD didn’t win any generation. There were missteps by Xbox last gen which really helped PlayStation win, plus their exclusives were off the charts. But CoD certainly has an influence. I know several gamers who only play CoD and FIFA. They are loyal to those games more than their consoles.
Important note: Call of Duty does not have to be exclusive to affect sales.
Xbox could simply have exclusive maps, items or release 1 or 3 months earlier and it will massively affect hardware sales.
Sony’s real response will come in time. But you can be sure they are having emergency meetings right now - their stock has dropped by $20 billion in market value!
People want to downplay this by saying that Sony is ahead and so forth, but things could be drastically different in a few years time. And good businesses, like Sony, know they have to continually adapt to the market to stay competitive.
I think the console wars just got interesting. Although, I’m not sure in a good way. Haha
@Nepp67 you shouldn’t, it’s still a great console.
I mean, playing Phantasy Star Online 2 with like 520p graphics is an eye (and soul) destroyer, but who needs working retinas (reasons to live) anyway?
I play mine in the office when I can’t access my main consoles and games are lower quality but there is still lots of fun to be had. Especially on last gen games that it was made for. Also Forza Horizon 5 has no right to be as good as it is on that old hardware! The devs should get a trophy for that.
Looks like a great month to me! Can’t wait to try them all out.
@Integrity I think the PlayStation app is also a bit confused.
The banner shows Persona 5 Strikers which you can click on and claim but the monthly games below are still showing the old games, but they are no longer free and instead fully priced.
So yeah, I guess they gotta update something. Hopefully won’t be long.
Those getting more either have too much time to read PushSquare, good memories or know how to lie in comments sections. And I’m jealous regardless. Haha
Whoever names things at Ubisoft needs to come up with original names.
They’ve slapped ‘Ragnarok’ onto this after the announcement of God of War Ragnarok and they did the same with Odyssey, a word rarely used in game titles but used in quick succession after Super Mario Odyssey came out.
@UltimateOtaku91 well I agree they probably shouldn’t have included it because the campaign could be bad. But what I’ve played of the Multiplayer is enough of a game for me. And I’ve played it more than some complete games that are fully released that I’ve already judged (if that makes sense).
However, this ‘Players Choice’ award is quite literally a popularity contest and like with any of these award shows just because something wins doesn’t make it the right choice.
@AdamNovice @LiamCroft @UltimateOtaku91 I don’t think it is Xbox fanboys storming it (I could be wrong). I don’t think it’s a surprise though.
Halo isn’t just on GamePass it is also free for PC and Xbox and I know a lot of non Xbox players who have tried it out on PC.
Also, I think if this was an Xbox fanboy vote then it would be split between FH5 and Halo, so I don’t really see that argument holding much weight. I just think it’s a great game and many others will agree.
Now, if I could have chosen Psychonauts 2, I would have. But Halo is the best game (imho) of those five.
@Voltan I wouldn’t be surprised and, if true, I feel it is an anti-consumer move by Sony.
While some will be filled with joy at the plight of rivals. Most of us don’t care. I just want my kids to be able to play Fall Guys on their Switches alongside me playing on PS4.
In my opinion, games exclusivity shouldn’t go on for more than six months (barring development/technical issues). Fall Guys should be on all consoles by now, just as FF7:R should be on PC and Xbox etc.
@lolwhatno @Bamila yeah, Rocket League is a great game and one of my most played. It’s 5 minute matches are especially helpful as a parent when you are waiting for something in the oven or have 10 minutes of down time just to get a couple of games in.
Personally I don’t mind the toxics. I’m only gold rank, but if I miss a save and my opponents (or even my team mate) spams “What a Save!” at me. I just spam back, “Thanks!” And it really doesn’t affect my mood/play. We all make mistakes and I just say “Close one!” when they miss their save.
I also apologise for every mistake and praise every goal and legitimate save, even the opponents. And physically type “There’s no need for that” when people are getting abusive. And to be honest I find most calm down and some apologise.
I’m basically being a Dad to Rocket League now that I think about it.

Sony needs to wake up.

I don’t know how the console warriors are going to cope when we have multiple cross-platform games owned by Microsoft and Sony on the others’ console.
I think it’s healthy to have good relationships and cooperation. Cross play is a massive bonus being able to play with friends from all sides.

I know Square Enix has made some missteps of late, but they have made (and still make) some of the best games in the business.
Re: PS Plus Games for January 2022 Are Available to Download Now
Looks like a great month to me!
Re: PS5, PS4 Launch Trailer for PS Plus Game Deep Rock Galactic Released
@Abuncha_nada thanks for the info.
Yeah, I play this on Xbox so I’m hoping there is cross play and cross progression at some point in the future.
Re: PS5, PS4 Launch Trailer for PS Plus Game Deep Rock Galactic Released
Anyone know if this is gonna be cross play with the Xbox version?
Re: Push Square's PlayStation Quiz of the Year 2021
@UltimateOtaku91 I think I’ve stared lovingly at his face too much to know it wasn’t real, but it was very good.
My wife and kids were fooled though.
Re: Push Square's PlayStation Quiz of the Year 2021
12/25 go me!
Those getting more either have too much time to read PushSquare, good memories or know how to lie in comments sections. And I’m jealous regardless. Haha
Re: Rumour: Assassin's Creed Valhalla 'Dawn of Ragnarok' Expansion Leaks Ahead of Live Reveal
Re: The Game Awards' Final Round of Fan Voting for Players' Voice Award Live
@UltimateOtaku91 well I agree they probably shouldn’t have included it because the campaign could be bad. But what I’ve played of the Multiplayer is enough of a game for me. And I’ve played it more than some complete games that are fully released that I’ve already judged (if that makes sense).
However, this ‘Players Choice’ award is quite literally a popularity contest and like with any of these award shows just because something wins doesn’t make it the right choice.
It is what it is though.
Re: The Game Awards' Final Round of Fan Voting for Players' Voice Award Live
@AdamNovice @LiamCroft @UltimateOtaku91 I don’t think it is Xbox fanboys storming it (I could be wrong). I don’t think it’s a surprise though.
Re: Ghost of Tsushima and Sackboy Enter the Fray in Fall Guys Season 6
@Voltan I wouldn’t be surprised and, if true, I feel it is an anti-consumer move by Sony.
While some will be filled with joy at the plight of rivals. Most of us don’t care. I just want my kids to be able to play Fall Guys on their Switches alongside me playing on PS4.
In my opinion, games exclusivity shouldn’t go on for more than six months (barring development/technical issues). Fall Guys should be on all consoles by now, just as FF7:R should be on PC and Xbox etc.
Re: Rocket League Takes a Nice Shot with the BMW M240i
@lolwhatno @Bamila yeah, Rocket League is a great game and one of my most played.
