Re: Players Point Out Destiny 2's New Crossover Cosmetics Probably Cost More Than The Witcher 3 and All Its DLC

Kienda

£17 for a single cosmetic is madness.

I just spent £12 to buy Final Fantasy 15 Royal Edition (full game plus DLCs and cosmetics).

Think of all the work that went into that game, people pouring out their hearts into it from designers, writers, artists, musicians and so many more. They created an art piece that tells a story, plays with your emotions and gives hundreds of hours of content and I bought it for less than a single cosmetic.

This is why I have also said mobile games were cancer to gaming. They gave birth to micro transactions which have now infected gaming as a whole.

Re: Sony Takes Control of UK as PS5 Climbs to 51% Market Share

Kienda

@MrGawain yeah, I agree with you.

I’m not into CoD or EA FC, or the mountains of FPS and Horror games, I prefer the JRPGs, adventure games, platformers etc.

The saving grace is I have such a large backlog of good games from last gen that I’m never bored. But clearly more needs to be done this gen.

I know Nintendo keeps delivering and Xbox have said they want to diversify. But I’m not sure what Sony will do.

Re: Tekken Tournament at UK's Biggest Gaming Expo Gets Interrupted by Just Stop Oil Protestors

Kienda

So… Tekken is killing the planet?

These people should rage against the real culprits, the massive polluters in the world. The UK could go to net-zero tomorrow and it would have zero impact on global omissions.

The end result will be that UK citizens are taxed more and lose freedom because of policies these loons force through parliament and yet nothing will be solved globally.

Go protest in China or somewhere that can actually impact global emissions.

Re: Final Fantasy XIV Patch 6.5 - Growing Light Signals the Beginning of the End

Kienda

FF14 is a game I have always wanted to play but never found the time.

I love MMOs. I played World of Warcraft from launch to Mists of Pandaria and I still play Guild Wars 2 and Elder Scrolls Online.

With ESO and GW2, I can leave for a while then jump back in with their expansions and feel like I’m not left behind. WoW was great but it was such a time investment, I was raiding and just couldn’t keep up after having kids so I quit it cold turkey. I feel FF14 could be the same, not because of the gear grind but the story grind.

Like I said, I’ve always wanted to play this, just haven’t felt I can invest the time.

Anyone got experience on whether I could just enjoy it gradually over time or is it that massive as the comments above suggest?

Re: Aggressive Dino-Shooter Exoprimal Gets Outrageous Season 2 Trailer

Kienda

I’m definitely going to dip back into this. It’s a solid game with a decent gameplay loop. I played a good 10+ hours on it, but it didn’t have enough to keep me coming back so maybe this will fix that.

@B_Lindz in all honesty, Xbox Game Pass is the only thing that saved this game from extinction. If you play it, all your teammates will be Xbox players almost all the time (I’m also playing this on Xbox).

It should have been a free to play game.

Re: Death Stranding, the PS5, PS4 Game, Is Coming Natively to iPhone 15 Pro

Kienda

I think this might be a way forward for handheld gaming. It won’t negate the Switch, but might fill the void left by Xbox and PlayStations absence in the market.

It would be great if we had a mobile version of PS+, Game Pass and Steam without having to rely on cloud or streaming from a device. I’m talking native versions of the games for mobile devices with settings being configured based on your phone model.

All current gaming handhelds for PC games are £350ish, this is three times more expensive. It should be more powerful and have a better battery life at 3 hours or so I’d guess. And most of us have these expensive devices just being wasted for texts and browsing.

Add a dock to connect to TVs like a Switch does, as they already have controller support, and you’ve got yourself a great gaming device. And for those on the go, there are options from Razer and so forth that turn your phone into a proper gaming handheld.

I’d definitely support that.

Re: Mortal Kombat 1's PS5 Trophies Won't Take Long to Finish Them

Kienda

@tameshiyaku I mean, in Ori and the Blind Forest on Xbox there is a trophy to complete the game without dying.

I don’t think I could achieve that in 50 years of playing the game.

At least with the “My King Fu is Stronger” you don’t need to have skills but just lots of time.

Re: Roblox Finally Comes to PS5, PS4 This October

Kienda

I used to hate Roblox as it seemed like cocaine for children.

When my kids first started playing it they’d be playing such garbage games. But now there actually are somewhat decent games on there if you look for them.

For anyone that doesn’t know, Roblox isn’t a game itself, it’s a platform for other people to create games. So there are hundreds-of-thousands of games created in the platform that people play. And some of those games have more players than most mainstream games that get released (it’s that popular).

Sega made a Sonic game on it, for example. Also there are realistic FPS games, creative building games, some team survival games and much more. It’s not all garbage, but it mostly is unfortunately. And if you don’t monitor your kids they’ll be playing garbage games that are addictive.

Despite all this, they are only allowed to play it twice week. It still is cocaine for children.

Re: Another Nail in E3's Coffin as Events Collaboration Falls Through

Kienda

There are so many things I don’t understand about E3.

How did it die on the first place? What made developers hate it? Why did the public turn against it? How do they keep failing to revive it?

It’s all so messed up. And I’m sad to see a part of my childhood/youth disappear because of gaming politics and mismanagement.

Re: PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Spending Has Completely Plateaued in USA

Kienda

@Intr1n5ic well I would agree that I have probably simplified the costs and there is more going on behind the scenes.

It just irks me that multi-billion-dollar corporations say things like, “we are all in this together” as they blame inflation and things for raising prices, while at the same time making record profits.

Meanwhile we normal people are having less and less money. The rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, but the rich pretending they are suffering alongside us.

It’s also the reason I oppose paying for online multiplayer. I pay it, obviously, but I’ve managed to stack GPU and PS+ and make it about 30% of the original price using VPNs and every trick in the book. Now both Sony and Microsoft have cracked down on it I likely won’t be renewing readily unless I can find better deals than there are currently. Especially as I can play the same multiplayer games on PC for free.

Re: PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Spending Has Completely Plateaued in USA

Kienda

@mrbone I was only talking about PS+ being more for online play because I think most Xbox Game Pass subscribers aren’t in it only for the multiplayer. I think they are doing it for the games.

This is what I was saying before.

PS+ and Game Pass are different. They’re not a like for like comparison.

You have to compare Xbox Live Gold to PS+ to get to the fact they are paying for online play primarily and free games secondary.

Game Pass and the higher tiers of PS+ are the comparison. And I think most would just have the base of PS+ and the top tier of Game Pass.

Re: PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Spending Has Completely Plateaued in USA

Kienda

@mrbone I’m not speaking for anyone.

Also, I’m not bashing Sony. My PlayStation is my main console. PS+ is way better value than GWG (now Core) if looking at the “free” games alone. PS+ lowest tier is better than GP lowest tier.

However, I was just stating common knowledge. Most people subscribe to PS+ to access online multiplayer. The bonus is the additional games. There are a lot CoD/FIFA players out there on the sub that won’t play any other games.

Personally, I subscribe to Game Pass and PS+ for the games primarily as I don’t play many online games on console. So I am literally in the same boat as you.

I know we are in an online world of fanboyism here, but just because I said something negative against a company you like doesn’t mean I’m against Sony or attacking you.

Re: PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Spending Has Completely Plateaued in USA

Kienda

@Intr1n5ic Of course servers cost money, but they charge because they can, not because they must.

PC gamers don’t pay for online gaming. In fact, it’s the same games that we are playing on PC and console but only one group has to pay. The servers don’t cost less because a PC is accessing it over a console. Mobile games don’t charge for online play. STEAM doesn’t charge a subscription to access online servers. In fact, all their first party games are online and free to play, so how are they making money? Oh yeah, it’s from the sales of games on their platform. That’s how it should be on console also.

Nintendo gamers didn’t pay for online throughout the Wii/WiiU/3DS generations and didn’t until the Switch, during a period of time when Nintendo has made some of the highest profits in its history.

The reason they started? Because they saw that consumers were suckers on console and would pay for a free service, just like they do on PlayStation and Xbox.

So yeah, convince yourself it’s for the improved service or because the costs are high, but you’re just fooling yourself. It is 99% about making money.

Re: PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Spending Has Completely Plateaued in USA

Kienda

@Neverwild I’m not only bashing Sony on this issue. I said no console (inc Nintendo and Xbox) should have paid for multiplayer, but people are conflating two separate things.

Game Pass is a game subscription service. It is the video game equivalent to Netflix for films or Spotify for music.

PS+ is primarily a payment for online multiplayer.

The majority of PS+ subscribers will only subscribe to play online. The additionally games are bonus. But the majority of Call of Duty and FIFA players aren’t bothered about the other games, they just need PS+ to play online.

Conversely the majority of Game Pass subscribers are doing it for the games primarily. The multiplayer element is a bonus.

If they want online play only they will get Xbox Live. Game Pass only for the games or Game Pass Ultimate to combine the two.

Now, if we want to talk subscription services as a whole, there are pros and cons to subscriptions for gaming. You can grab a single month subscription and try out 50 games to decide which to buy, for example.

But the only benefit to paying for online multiplayer is to line the shareholder’s pockets of multi-billion-dollar corporations.

If you want to defend that, fine. But don’t pretend I’m only calling out Sony. I love all three consoles and want them to be better for us gamers.

Re: PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Spending Has Completely Plateaued in USA

Kienda

This article is praising PS+ for “getting things right” but the vast majority of those PS+ subscribers are subbing for online play, not for the game service.

Think about that for a moment.

Personally, I’ve always disliked paying for online play on consoles. It should be free. But clearly it makes money for them (and PushSquare can use those sub numbers in their fight against Game Pass).

Re: Diablo 4 Devs Front Irate Fanbase in Frank Campfire Chat, 'We Know It's Bad, We Know It's Not Fun'

Kienda

Was anyone surprised by this?

This is the company that allowed people to spend $10,000 to boost their character only for someone who spent $50,000 to come along in PVP and one hit kill them. (Diablo Immortals)

Why do people keep giving money to companies that practice such scummy exploitation?

We as a gaming community should be boycotting these companies and demanding regulation on how much can be spent. Otherwise we all lose out in the long run. But instead we throw money at them and then cry when they do something we don’t like.

More fool us.

Re: Exoprimal (PS5) - One of the Most Promising Online Co-Op Shooters in Eons

Kienda

Thanks for the review @get2sammyb a 7/10 is fair to the game. I’d personally give it an 8/10 as I’m really enjoying it, but I also think the game can grow into something better as the core gameplay and concept is good.

I think there has been a negative perception, especially amongst PlayStation gamers, because this game is being used as a weapon in the console wars.

Xbox gamers are obviously happy this game is on Game Pass. So as a result, PlayStation gamers have responded by pointing to this game and its lower review scores as proof that Game Pass is bad for gaming.

Ultimately, this game shouldn’t even be used in the console wars as it’s on both and should be championed by both sides if they love the game.

I hope other PlayStation based review scores aren’t affected by any saltiness over the $60 price tag. As you stated the price is a negative.

Re: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's PS5 Trailer Compared to PS1 Original

Kienda

@Matroska I think it has a few reasons.

1. It’s saying the full game is on the discs.
2. It’s saying it’s a really big game.

Most importantly:

3. It’s reminding us fans that FF7 was on multiple discs and having to switch between discs the further you progressed into the game was actually a fairly unique thing that only games like Final Fantasy had as a ‘feature’. So it’s a bit of nostalgia there.

Re: The Number of the Beast Is All Over Diablo 4's Trophy List

Kienda

@KaijuKaiser that’s actually how I have in the past tried to justify playing certain games. But it’s more complicated than that, especially when certain games have you playing evil to defeat evil and the creators include achievements with clear references to things the Bible considers wrong.

We all have to work things out for ourselves. I have Christian friends and non Christian friends who play Diablo and it’s a great game, lots of fun. I wouldn’t tell them not to play. Personally though, I just feel like I’m opening myself up to things that I shouldn’t be dabbling with.

Re: The Number of the Beast Is All Over Diablo 4's Trophy List

Kienda

Yeah, this is why I avoid Diablo.

I dabbled in D3 and played the demo of 4, got to the cut scene with the dead bodies and Lilith flashed up as if trying to possess my character and I was like, “Yeah, that’s it. I’m done with this demonic stuff.”

People don’t know what they are messing with when they make and play these types of games.

Re: This PlayStation Patents Terminology Row Is the Stupidest Story in Games

Kienda

If he works with patents then this is the kind of petty nonsense that goes on all the time and while he seems like he’s over reacting to those not involved, it’s actually just part of what he and his ilk do for a living and they enjoy it. But clearly he’s coming from his biased view and this triggered him.

I’ve done contractual work for an organisation that disputes legal documents, including UN resolutions.

Even though every word is scrutinised by experts they can still make a mistake, which can lead to disputes that drag on for years. And some people get really passionate about these things while 99.99% of the population would just be like “meh”.

So this guy is clearly relishing this “mistake”. He’s in his element.

Re: Most PlayStation Fans Aren't At All Sold on a PS5 Remote Play Handheld

Kienda

Personally, I don’t see the point.

1. If I wanted to remote play I can buy a controller to clip my phone into and turn that into a portable console.

2. This is useless at home. I will just move the PS5 to a TV/Monitor in another room if I can’t use the main TV.

3. This sucks for being outside the home. I don’t want to have to turn on my PS5 in my house and connect over the internet which is unreliable in the UK.

Having said all that - This could work for Japan.

1. The Japanese love handhelds.

2. They have much faster internet. They can connect anywhere, even in the tube, and have better connection to their console at home than most of us would have over wifi.

3. They have a lot less space. So gaming in a multi person household is better suited to having your own device.

Re: Sony Patents Heat Dispensers Inside PS5 Controllers

Kienda

Been conserving energy by turning the heat off while home alone during the day so have had many a time where I’m all snug in a hoodie and blanket but have cold hands.

I don’t want the heated controllers for in game mechanics. I just want to turn it on to keep my hands warm while gaming. Kinda like a seat warmer in a car.

So actually, I like this idea.

Re: Almost One Year Later, Square Enix Will Fix Chrono Cross PS4 Remaster

Kienda

Square Enix is my favourite 3P studio. But their customer care is shocking right now.

This issue is just one of a growing list of many. They have screwed over players on every platform and within each of their fanbases with their incompetence. And they don’t seem to be getting better.

At least they are fixing this problem though.

Re: Mammoth PS5 Marketing Prompts Horizon Forbidden West Pop-Up Café in Paris

Kienda

The fact this was only open a few days is mind blowing. Most people who would want to go won’t hear about it until it’s already gone.

They could easily create permanent gaming themed restaurants like this. Have sections like God of War, Horizon Forbidden West and Ratchet and Clank etc. Place one them in London, Paris, New York and Tokyo and people will flock to them for the experience.
