@Milktastrophe I’m sorry but 3 months is never long enough. Especially for big name games.
The first time I signed up for PS Now it was because Spider-Man. They released it in April 2020 on PS Now for just 3 months. I didn’t know that as it wasn’t made clear. So like a sucker, I saw it as one of the main games they were highlighting IN JULY and so I buy PS Now for a year. A few days later I’m about 4 hours into the game and suddenly I can’t play it anymore. That’s absolute bull and I felt duped.
On XBox Game Pass you have the games a lot longer and when they are leaving the service they tell you for a long time in advance providing you lots of warning for games you may want to complete.
Any game that sells 7 million units is worth making.
Nintendo has inferior hardware (power wise) and with the new generation that gap has grown wider. Monster Hunter World never made it to Switch, but Rise is being brought outside of Switch to PC. It is a fair trade off.
Developers need to start valuing the Switch audience and develop games specifically for Switch - Especially ones that are more geared up to a younger audience or a Nintendo audience. If they optimise it for the Switch they can then easily bump up the resolution for the other consoles and all the fans of that genre can get the best experience of the game they love.
Most developers make games for PlayStation/PC/Xbox and the Switch either gets left out completely or has a really terrible resolution/unplayable version in a lot of cases.
Clearly most games are going to be developed with Switch as an after thought or ignored completely but there are certain genres that suit Switch best and third party developers would see a massive boost in sales if they actually treated the Nintendo audience with respect instead of giving them their leftovers.
This list is pretty accurate to my tastes. I would change a few around. Personally my one and two would be FF7 and FF7R but I’m highly biased and FFXII would also be higher for me.
I think FFXI and FFXIV are a little underrated also, especially 14, but probably because they aren’t as popular with the PlayStation audience and are more so on PC.
I really enjoy the Final Fantasy series so many of them hold a special place in my eyes with 12, 8, 9 and 10 all being up there as extra special.
However, Final Fantasy 7 is my favourite and is in my top five all time favourite games as well.
It was the first game I saw screenshots of in a magazine where I immediately felt a sense of wonder and pure fantasy that I hadn’t experienced from a magazine and it gave me that first feeling since playing Secret of Mana on the SNES. But FF7 took it to the next level.
I didn’t own a PS1 at the time so I had to wait about a year until I got a PS1 after seeing the game. I became so obsessed I was at the point of having recurring dreams of owning a PS1 and waking up to not have one.
Eventually I got my PS1 and the first game I got for it was FF7. And I experienced pure wonder and joy with every moment that I still feel to this day when I play it. I know most say it doesn’t hold up, but it really does to me.
Liam gave the original 10/10. Stephen has given this improved version 9/10.
While it does seem a little odd for a single site to have two review scores it makes sense based on the individual views of reviews. Either way these are some stellar review scores and I can’t wait to play it!
@rjejr @KidBoruto well, since that game is coming out in just a few days and it wasn’t mentioned and it wasn’t mentioned at all that I feel was the biggest mistake Sony made!
Kena is one of my most anticipated games for this year and while I have seen a lot about it I had failed to register it was coming out this month! I really hope it doesn’t flop because of poor marketing.
@get2sammyb maybe an article on this would help raise awareness for the game and you can give Sony a slap while you’re at it.
I personally don’t agree with your opinion, but I can see where you are coming from. You literally live and breathe PlayStation so you want them to give you more, it’s understandable.
As a wise man once said, we wouldn’t moan so passionately if we didn’t care so strongly (I just made that up but I think it rings true).
We all have to get used to shows containing less games and reshowing stuff we already know about.
There are less games being produced these days and we are having to wait longer for the big hitters. It’s just the way it is with big budget games and smaller companies being shut down or bought out.
Sony would do well to show smaller games though and indies and have more regular showcases, I’d imagine.
I liked the song. But more importantly I liked that the developer owns the rights to the song, has given links (on their website) for people to download it for free (along with the remix) AND encouraged others to use it in their creations without the threat of a lawsuit. Nice!
@danlk1ng I can appreciate that, people like to whine about something. I think it is human nature to want to have an ‘enemy’ or ‘injustice’ to tackle. Wether that be the side attacking Sony or the side attacking the whiners.
My comment was just my long winded attempt to add some middle ground to the arguments.
These games aren’t for me, but I will claim anyway!
Please note: It is not a complaint to say the games aren’t for you. The free games aspect of PS Plus is what many subscribe for and so they are allowed to be disappointed having to wait another month in the hopes of getting a game for them. We don’t all have the budgets to buy all the games we want so getting these games for a couple £/$/€ a month is a real benefit to some of us. Also, I quite enjoy the ‘lottery’ aspect of these games being announced each month. Sometimes my ‘numbers’ don’t come up but I’m happy being part of the fun.
One thing people don’t get with comment sections and polls is don’t tell the whole story of how someone is feeling. We only talk in a few words and often times opposing views on the extremes of those views dominate comment sections. So don’t take it personally as an attack against Sony or that the service is bad. If a poll asks, “Are you satisfied?” My answer this month is “no” (for this month) but overall I am with the service as I’ve had great games made available to me that I wanted and some I never knew I wanted until I played them.
@koaeinferno @AdamNovice Clank is a PlayStation exclusive mascot and this is a PlayStation console exclusive (for now). So it’s still news for this site and something people will appreciate.
Not for me though. I couldn’t win a game of this to save my life so I quit long ago.
More like slows down near the end of the race to appreciate the view, greet a few friends and shout back some encouragement to its new sibling before being greeted at the finish line by its older relatives as the champion it is with a lot of life left to give.
This makes sense, especially because of the size of the disc space being limited in physical copies and then not wanting large day one downloads.
HOWEVER
If this is just a file size issue. Why not make the pre-rendered PS4 versions as a Free DLC called “Japanese Lip Sync” and allow people to download it if they want it and have space for it.
@Papolazarus I agree with you. As a parent with two young kids Game Pass is super worth it. We have a limited budget so it’s great they can always play new games. And Game Pass offers a decent amount of kid friendly games.
By the way, Battle for Neighbourhood is two player split screen. My kids play it together both online multiplayer and also offline missions. You just have to log in to EA for each (and have two controllers obviously).
@tomassi you said, “Believe what you want of course, but the overwhelming reaction to this has been whatever is worse than negative! And rightly so. If I was Konami right now I'd feel extremely embarrassed!”
This reaction is exactly what I’m talking about. Social media sites, especially Twitter, are just full of hyperbole. The video isn’t that bad. Could the graphics look better? Yes. But it’s not FIFA and it’s on frickin’ mobile platforms, so they can’t perform miracles and what they have done is acceptable.
YouTube isn’t paid for clicks and likes. Twitter is largely extremely left wing in politics and the way it works it’s like a toilet wall that people use marker pen on to moan and write abuse at each other. It’s user base is lowering making just 1% to 1.5%of the worlds population and nuanced views are being pushed out. The same is happening with Reddit which makes up about 0.68%. This is why Twitter and Reddit polls never work in real life especially when it comes to politics.
It is also the reason why you see more “right wing” stuff on Facebook. Not because it is more right wing, but because it has 30% of the worlds population using it and they don’t crack down on views as hard as Twitter so they allow all groups to have a voice and you then get a more balance audience although groups are still echo chambers.
Anyway, I could give much more info. But I stand by what I have said.
1. This game is made with mobile in mind, is free to play, and has a much lower budget than FIFA.
2. Twitter and Reddit are a tiny fraction of extremist views that should never be taken as public opinion.
@Jacko11 @Orpheus79V @fR_eeBritney I think the reason people idolised the original is when you are kids things are more magical. When these grown ups now watch this sequel it can never live up to the original in their minds and they are biased by politics or other things as adults.
I watched the original with my kids the other week (it’s either on Amazon Prime or Netflix) in anticipation for taking them to see this over the summer and you can see the Basketball players acting isn’t all that great, but the movie is still special and my kids enjoyed it as much as I did at their age.
I’m assuming the new movie will be similar to that. I don’t think it will be as good in my mind but still enjoyable. My kids might like it more because it’s modern. But I doubt it will be the disaster some are saying.
I think they just have wrong expectations or their opinion is biased because of Lebron’s politics/bowing to China or the fact he’s on a rival team or whatever they don’t like about him.
It’s funny how ‘mature adults’ are acting like children over a kids movie. But it happens all the time these days I guess and on both sides of the political isle. We should just enjoy the movie and let people have fun.
@Jessica2K yeah, that makes perfect sense and suits your situation perfectly.
To be honest, I probably should just stick to one console and focus my time into getting the most out of that, especially as I’m married with kids and run a business, but I’ve owned every console each generation since I was 10-years-old and enjoying them all is part of the thrill for me. Just wish I had more time.
@Kidfried I agree. Both systems are great and so is the Switch. Heck, even if you only have a PS3 you will still have a great gaming experience.
Anyone saying one sucks or whatever are clueless or has issues with their own insecurities. There are people still playing Anthem and enjoying it, for goodness sake! We can all have fun whatever console we happen to own. And there are too many games for any of us to complete anyway.
@JapaneseSonic well, for me personally, my son has now got my Xbox One in his room so I rarely get a chance to play it unless I’m playing couch coop with the kids.
I could buy any one of the Xboxes for Game Pass, but thinking the Series X/S would be the way to go.
Yeah, Jim put his foot in his mouth with that one. I think we all lose perspective of old games because we are used to shiny new ones. But as someone in PR, he should know better.
Talking of old games, I have a friend who bought his kids their first console for Christmas this year… a Mega Drive!
It might sound like child abuse to some, but those boys love that console and have have a blast with if. They don’t have much exposure to other games (they live in a very remote place) but they are true gamers and happy. Long live retro gamers!
