Re: Talking Point: Is Sony Right to Skip E3 2020?

Lovespuds

Personally, I am disappointed at the news Sony are skipping the event again.

I am someone who books a couple of days leave to stay up and enjoy the conferences and get into a good game over a long weekend.

I think it stings more because Sony really did a fabulous job at E3 this generation with 2015 through 2017 being especially enjoyable, so their absence is all the more noticeable. I felt sure they would be back this year as a result of having a new console (and hopefully some exclusive games) to promote.

Their messaging last year was that they had nothing new to show and didn't want to over expose games they had already shown. That cannot be the case this year, so it must be as a result of the rumoured falling out with the ESA, which makes their absence all the more frustrating to me.

Re: Game of the Year: Push Square Readers' Top 10 PS4 Games of 2019

Lovespuds

Personally, Days Gone was the game in 2019 that I poured the most time into and couldn't put down. I was really surprised by how much I liked it as I didn't think I would find the characters relatable but within 3 or 4 hours I was utterly invested.

I do recognise that open world games are far and away my fave genre so I just assumed I was out of step with the critical reception due to my personal preferences, but it quickly became apparent that the game was gaining traction within the community. I am not surprised at this result in the slightest.

Re: Game of the Year: #4 - Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Lovespuds

I thought it is an okay game but there were things I didn't like about it for sure.

The map in the game is super conveluted and it is way more of a hassle to get where you want to than it should be. I also thought the combat was utter trash compared to any of the From Software titles, the animation just wast good enough to communicate the parrying timing compared to a From title and the fights become quite boring and repetitive.

I also thought Kal was so very, very boring.... I just never warmed to him at all, he was so milquetoast with nothing cool or badass about him. When you have that universe to create from you give us a boring ass human wet blanket.

Sekiro was supirior to this game in every single way in my opinion.

Re: Game of the Year: Lloyd's Top 5 PS4 Games of 2019

Lovespuds

Good list of games there Lloyd, thanks for taking the time to share.

I am a bit of a wimp myself when it comes to scary games, so I was really surprised by just how much I enjoyed Resident Evil 2, I think it may be down to the balancing of the combat and resources which seem perfectly tuned to give you enough of a chance to defend yourself.

As a huge Alien fan, it nags at me to this day that I cannot play Alien on PS4 as I feel completely vulnerable at all times and as such, the atmosphere is that much more effective to the point where I just cower under tables for 15 minutes at a time πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

All the best for 2020 squire.

@kyleforrester87
Yeah, it's a fantastic point, I think I would have loved to squeeze that extra value out of my games too as a kid, although I still racked up hundreds of hours on Elite on my Commodore 64 even without DLC πŸ˜„

It does perhaps explain why DLC is so popular despite my perception that nobody cares, which is based on my own group of friends etc who are all my age. Its bloody kids, kids are responsible for the growth of micro transactions and DLCπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

@kyleforrester87
I feel exactly the same although, even when I do Platinum games I enjoyed such as Days Gone or the last two Assassins Creed titles, I find that I am ready to move on and have no desire to revisit a games DLC once I have moved on to a new game.

Re: Game of the Year: Graham's Top 5 PS4 Games of 2019

Lovespuds

Hi, this is an interesting list with a couple of games that flew under my radar, thanks for adding to my ever expanding wishlist/backlog. πŸ˜„

I feel like I am missing something as I really didn't care for Control. While the powers were cool and fun to use, I thought the shooting felt off and quite stiff. I also hated the map, it made navigating far more complicated than it needed to be.

It was a nice looking game and it ran well enough on my Pro, but by the time I got to about 3/4 of the way through it I was forcing myself to play it and ultimately stopped before seeing the credits roll.

Re: Site News: We're Looking for a Vibrant Video Producer to Lead Push Square to YouTube Glory

Lovespuds

Always loved the idea of having a pop at getting into the industry, especially when I was a bit younger. Without blowing my own trumpet, I reckon I have a pretty encyclopaedic knowledge of all things Playstation (and even more in depth of knowledge in respect of the Commodore 64 and Amiga, what with being an old codger!) and have have been told I have a very entertaining way of delivering content (I deliver technical/legal training in the civil service as a day job).

Alas, I was dealt a cruel blow at 23 years old when all my hair fell out (it was about the time I got wed and my daughter came along weirdly enough) and this only accentuates my 'characterful' facial features - I have a face for radio unfortunately!

In all seriousness, good luck to any who apply and I am excited to hear that PushSquare will have more of a presence on Youtube.

Re: Soapbox: Return of the Obra Dinn Is Outstanding, Save for One Blasted Trophy

Lovespuds

It's definitely the case that some devs really drop the ball with their trophy lists. There is fine line I suppose, the platinum should be challenging but at the same time, I feel they should avoid grinds and preferably, avoid the need for multiple playthroughs.

The list that really drives me nuts is The Last of Us. I have every single player trophy but missed the platinum because of those stupid multiplayer trophies; it niggles at me because I have platinumed every ND title except this one...... Grrrrr!

Re: Guide: When Is the PS5 Coming Out?

Lovespuds

I am more than happy with my Pro, but I have to admit I am getting pretty excited at the prospect of a new console. That for me is my favourite thing about videogames, there is always something to look forward to.

Re: Kratos Almost Axed from God of War PS4 in Favour of a Brand New Protagonist

Lovespuds

I adore God of War but I must say, I am getting pretty fed up of the under appreciation of the original titles. The original series of games sold by the million and garnered fantastic reviews yet there is a curious revisionist history going on where suddenly everyone hated Kratos and to a degree, the games themselves.

Well I have to say, when those original games came out I utterly loved them and whilst Kratos wasn't the most relatable character, he was still a very cool and interesting protagonist with flaws which, to me, made him quite interesting whilst being quite faithful to the tropes in Greek mythology.

I am glad they went in a different direction for sure, but part of the reason for the new games success for me was seeing Kratos' rejection of what he had become following the earlier games and how he was looking to protect his son from the same fate.

Re: Poll: What Was the Best PS4 Game of E3 2019?

Lovespuds

The games I am most excited for would be Ghostwire Tokyo, Elden Ring and Cyberpunk (and the Zelda Breath of Wild sequel a close 4th), however, if we are only considering games that were showing gameplay then I would say Watchdogs 3, Final Fantasy 7 and Luigis Mansion 3 (and Astral Chain a close 4th).

I know the shows were generally a bit lackluster, but across them all I still have a bunch of games I am super excited for.

Re: Talking Point: Did Square Enix's E3 2019 Press Conference Live Up to the Hype?

Lovespuds

Final Fantasy VII just jumped to my personal game of the show, it looked incredible. I cannot believe they found a way to change things up and modernise while remaining so faithful to the original source material. It seemed like an impossible task, but they somehow managed to pull it off.

My favourites so far this E3 are FFVII, Cyberpunk, Watchdogs 3 and Ghostwire Tokyo. While E3 has been underwhelming as a spectacle, overall there have still been plenty of games I am excited for.

I still keep hoping Sony will release a gameplay trailer for release date at some point tonight for TLoU or Tsushima or something, just to remind everyone of how relevant they are. Even a release date for Dreams would be pretty exciting.

Re: Days Gone - Open World Comfort Food with a Survival Horror Spin

Lovespuds

@Kidfried
Actually, that's quite an interesting analogy, Mad Max scores hovered around 7 and despite its flaws, I had a fab time. I have bought Days Gone anyway as my son wants to play it, but I feel confident I will enjoy the game.

I love the description of 'open world comfort food', it does a great job of setting my expectations as a gamer who loves open world games.

I have to get Maximo on PS2 out of the way first and then I hope to jump into Days Gone.

Re: Guide: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - How to Kill Lady Butterfly

Lovespuds

Bit spoilerific, I am glad I had beat her before seeing this article.

I found her quite tricky but this was the fight where the penny really dropped with regards to combining countering and step dodging while being really aggressive at the right time.

I simply cannot believe how incredible this game is, From Software have done it again, another bona fide classic in my opinion.

Re: Round Up: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice PS4 Reviews - Another From Software Classic?

Lovespuds

@munkondi
Agreed, I feel that I know the various reviewers likes and dislikes here, and how they align with my own; as such I know I can trust the reviews, it's a fab site.

It's a shame no review copy was forthcoming as I am looking forward to seeing the PushSquare review fir Sekiro.

My copy from Shopto arrived this morning and I have played about 2 hours, it is living up to the hype but I am trying to forget my Dark Souls muscle memory at the moment, its proving to be quite tricky fighting my first mini boss. By the way, you guys should see the steelbook for Sekiro.....BEAUTIFUL!!

Re: Soapbox: ANTHEM Has Crash-Landed, and Now It Needs to Win Players Back

Lovespuds

There are so many good games to choose from that I see no reason whatsoever to support EA's (and the rest) practice of putting half baked games out and expecting me as a consumer to stick with them while they tease a 'roadmap' of content that should be there from the start.

I played Destiny with my pals when it first came out but as soon as I was forced to grind the same missions and areas I was done and I never went back, even when people were going mad for the raids etc., I just wont support this kind of product.

I'll stick with my God of War, Sekiro, The Witcher and the like.

Re: Soapbox: I Should've Scored The Witness 10/10

Lovespuds

@daldrum
You could not be further from the truth when you state the game just consists of 2D puzzles.

Without saying too much, there are some lateral thinking puzzles in the game that blew my mind when I spotted them hiding in plain sight, let alone solved them. It's a fantastic game and when you say it takes talent to come up with puzzles you are talking about Jonathan Blow, the guy is a genius!

@GamerDad66
It does take advantage of Pro buddy but to be honest, I found 4K mode ran quite poorly, HDR implementation is fantastic if your telly is up to snuff though.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 260

Lovespuds

I just finished Mark of the Ninja Remastered last night so I think I might take a run at one of the 48 games on my backlog (they are all staring down at me from my shelf, mocking me for spending money on them when I have no chance of playing them all); I have decided to play Nino Kuni 2 and hope to wrap it up before Sekiro releases next month.

Very jealous of you Sammy, getting to play the new trials game, very keen to play that too.

Re: Soapbox: PSVR Bargain Adventure - One Man's Attempt to Reclaim His Gaming Glory Days

Lovespuds

It was a very entertaining read but I have to say, you should allow time to pursue your own hobbies and pastimes. I have been married for 22 years and game almost every evening. My wife and I get home from work around 5.30 and cook a meal together before catching up on our day with each other. By around 8, I will settle in for a couple of hours of gaming while my wife watches her soaps etc. We realised a long time ago that it was just as important to have your own time as it was to spend time together.

My kids are in their late teens so they tend to be doing their own thing these days so that does make things easier, but I still found time even back then.
