Re: Poll: Do You Think Single Player Games Are Really In Danger of Dying Out?

Lovespuds

For me, a consideration that isn't factored into the equation is that the community can only support so many online games. It's no accident that typically there are only a handful of online games that make megabucks at a time. These games tend to cannibalize each other's audience a lot.

Just look at the last 12 months, PUBG and Overwatch and maybe COD have completely dominated and as such, have made incredible amounts of profit. Then there is a second tier with your Battlefields and such but almost every other online game has struggled to gain a foothold.

It's all well and good for these companies to want to enjoy the profits that PUBG, Destiny and Overwatch make but they will have to knock out something truly incredible to compete and the reality is, only a few games will hit the mark.

Personally, I don't see anything changing that much. I think the current balance of Online, single player and indie games will continue for the foreseeable future.

Are companies really going to ignore the profits that the likes of Horizon, MGS5, The Witcher 3, Mario, Crash Bandicoot and all the other games make?

Re: UK Sales Charts: The Evil Within 2 Suffers Shocking Launch

Lovespuds

I think it's par for the course for this time of the year. Games cannibalize each other's sales and games will always struggle in the face of titles such as FIFA, GT, FORZA, Assassins Creed, COD and Destiny.

It's a real shame as the game looks to be really decent. I am busy with my own backlog at the moment and am hoping to resist buying any new games for a few months.

I already have old games queued up that I still haven't bought such as Hitman Season 1, The Surge, Sniper Elite 4, Prey and Yooka Laylee.

I think publishers need to be smarter about when they are releasing their games.

@SegaBlueSky
Social media has it's place in modern society however, if you genuinely wish to address such a serious and moreover, criminal grievance then you go to the authorities.

What you don't do is make what are, at the moment, baseless accusations on social media.

Re: Naughty Dog Responds to Sexual Harassment Allegations

Lovespuds

@SegaBlueSky
I have seen this kind of comment frequently and it makes me wonder, what kind of statement would you be happy with? If you had been wrongly accused of such a horrible crime on social media (which may well be the case in this instance) what would your statement look like?

As I have stated elsewhere, he should have made these allegations to the authorities, levelling such serious accusations via social media undermines the legitimacy of his claims in my opinion.

Re: Review: The Evil Within 2 (PS4)

Lovespuds

@DrJoeystein
Yup, your review justified the score perfectly mate so I am excited to play it. Like others, there are other games on the horizon that I am interested in too so there is no real rush.

I do get the urge to support the devs when a title like this comes out though.

Re: Review: The Evil Within 2 (PS4)

Lovespuds

@RedMageLanakyn
Agreed, 100%

All the same, I think people are too quick to discount these kinds of titles simply because they aren't garnering 10/10 scores.

Suda51 is another guy who's games receive middling scores but I have honestly loved them. These games often have a vibe, gameplay or story that you will never see in a mainstream AAA title but they can still be great fun to experience, despite not having the polish a bigger budget affords.

Re: Review: The Evil Within 2 (PS4)

Lovespuds

Nice review squire. Seems like a good game to me, I really enjoyed the 1st game too so this sequel is definately on my radar.

I personally think a score of 7 is strong enough to encourage me to buy the game, it's strange how the perception of a 7 is so negative these days. I have gotten so much enjoyment from games that had middle of the road scores over the years.

Re: Soak Up the Snowy Scenery in Horizon: Zero Dawn's Frozen Wilds

Lovespuds

@Octane
Yeah, I guess you are right matey, it's gonna be a cracking release no matter the medium. I am hoping it's big enough to justify another platinum trophy, the trophy list for Horizon was really fun.

Have a great weekend squire, just wrapped up Wolfy: The Old Blood ready for Wolfenstein 2....hard too keep up with all these amazing games but what a great problem to have 😀

Re: Gran Turismo Sport's Demo Proved a Roaring Success

Lovespuds

I am so very torn on whether to buy this game. I just don't like online racing, I have only ever experienced either ridiculously skilful players I stand no chance of competing with or, at the other end of the spectrum, players who ram you off the road.

Without a proper single player campaign my interest is much reduced, I don't care for the mission type structure, I want a career as per previous titles.

Having said all that, it is such a great looking game and I love how GT titles play.....perhaps I'll wait till it's a little cheaper.

Re: GameStop's Blunt Assassin's Creed Ad Has Rubbed a Lot of People the Wrong Way

@meltendo
I often wish someone would pose these kind of questions to developers.

I would love to hear what message Ubisoft has for Playstation gamers about Origins because all they have done is bang the drum about how awesome the XB1X version is.

I would love an interviewer to ask "why should PlayStation gamers play your game if you are suggesting it is so very inferior to the Xbox version" and watch them squirm.

Re: Gran Turismo Sport Plays the Nostalgia Card for UK Commercial

Lovespuds

@get2sammyb

The thing with PS1 that I think about at times is just how big a leap forward it was.

I remember the damage on Destruction Derby, real voice acting on Resi Evil, arcade quality graphics on Tekken, licenced music on Wipe out, fantastic writing on Metal Gear Solid and incredible 3D with Tomb Raider.

I grew up playing Atari before moving up to Commodore 64 and Amiga, these are still my fave systems but, as a 17 - 18 year old I remember feeling that every release on this new Playstation console was setting new standards.

Re: Gran Turismo Sport Plays the Nostalgia Card for UK Commercial

Lovespuds

@DerMeister
Agreed, I think it's very canny of Sony to include an element of nostalgia in their ads. It is something they have that MS cannot compete with, PlayStation has been a part of my life since I was 17....I remember coming home from the boozer with mates to play Tekken and Wipeout, I can remember playing Gran Turismo with my brother, I can remember my baby daughter watching me play Jak and Daxter and Spiro.

Their commitment to the industry and the amount of games they have brought me over the years is why I buy PlayStation. Even when MS launch their new 'most powerful console in the world', I will remember their lack of support more that the slight improvement in graphics and that's why I don't buy it.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Red Dead Redemption 2 Story Trailer?

Lovespuds

I thought the trailer looked okay. The world looks really well realised but I have to say, the character graphics, in particular the facial animations looked quite weak compared to some of the recent titles that have released.

My biggest concern is that if that was the character you will play as, he seems like a complete anus and I worry that I won't like him....I always like to play a paragon kind of role.

Re: School Girl/Zombie Hunter Skips Class on 17th November

Lovespuds

Regardless of the tone or content, the game looks trash.

A little test I think about with this kind of game is, would I be embarrassed if my wife or grown up daughter walked in to find these kind of scenes on the TV while I played.

In this instance I would have to conclude that yes, as I am not 10 years old, it would look quite pathetic if I were playing this.

Re: Single Player Games Are Really Struggling Right Now

Lovespuds

There is just as much risk in developing a service based game. The community typically can only support so many multiplayer games that reach those Destiny, GTA5, Overwatch or PUBG levels of success.

Just as many multiplayer games flop too, you only need to look at recent efforts like Fortnight, Lawbreakers, Titanfall, Rainbow6 Seige and so on.

Re: Virgin Media Users Suffer With PSN Sign-In Problems

Lovespuds

I had 2 occasions with Virgin where any interaction with Sony was blocked. PSN on my PS4, the Playstation Store via my PS4 or laptop, I couldnt sync trophies, no matter what i tried on PS4 or on the internet at home I could not connect to Sony services.

Turns out, one of the security companies Sony uses had randomly blacklisted the IP address I was using. This IP address was randomly allocated to me by Virgin as they change your IP address periodically.

I knew my PSN account was not blocked because I could log in from my PC at work.

It was super frustrating because Sony couldn't do anything and Virgin wouldn't change my IP address, it was knackered for 3 weeks and then fixed itself when Virgin randomly changed my IP again.

Re: Hands On: Can Assassin's Creed Origins Revive Ubisoft's Stealth Series?

Lovespuds

I am very excited for Origins as I really enjoy the Creed titles, I even got a lot of enjoyment out of Unity.

I think I may well leave it a month or two though so a few patches a have been released to tidy things up a little. My backlog along with Southpark will see me through......ignoring Mario however, is going to be very tough!

Re: Review: Planet of the Eyes (PS4)

Lovespuds

This seems to be right up my street but I am already bogged down and we are about to enter game season too.

I feel really sad for the devs of this kind of game, visibility must be such a huge issue given the ridiculous amount of games that seem to be releasing, it's becoming impossible to keep track.

Re: Round Up: What Did Sony Announce During Its TGS 2017 Press Conference?

Lovespuds

Well I personally thought it was a great conference. Lots to look forward too which really add depth and variety to the PS4 catalogue, you just don't see those quirky or gameplay driven games coming out from other regions.

On top of the fantastic titles from other regions, these Japanese titles add something different and in my opinion, are very exciting. Nino Kuni 2, Dragons Crown, Gundam, Earth Defense Force and Monster Hunter all look like terrific fun to me for starters.

Re: The Last of Us Remastered's PS4 Pro Support Has Been Improved

Lovespuds

One of my favourite ever titles but boy does the trophy list bum be out, those damn online trophies are the only thing preventing my Platinum trophy in this game. While I recognise it is a quality online game, i just don't play online games much, i am all about single player.

Nevertheless, what an incredible game!!!

Re: Feature: 12 PS4 Predictions for Sony's TGS 2017 Press Conference

Lovespuds

@THRILLHOU
Agreed, I think Bloodborne is such a high profile title that a show with broader audience like PSX would be a more likely place to announce a sequel.

Having said that, perhaps it is so popular that it would generate a huge amount of buzz no matter where or how it was announced. I would be beyond excited for a sequel, my favourite game of the generation so far and easily my favourite platinum to earn.

Re: Feature: The Promising PS4 Games of September 2017

Lovespuds

@Rob_230
Yeah, I often wonder the same thing.

It is to the credit of PushSquare that they manage cover these more niche titles, I really appreciate that effort the staff put in with the coverage of the less mainstream titles considering how small the site is.....fantastic effort!

Re: Review: Everybody's Golf (PS4)

Lovespuds

Something I noticed on PRO is that the 4K and HDR options are turned off by default. I played all weekend before finding out accidentally that there were extra options.

Game overall is awesome, but the progression is a little plodding I feel. My main gripe is with the dumb rules it applies to some of the character matches where, for example, you are forced to use megacups so the scores you achieve don't count as 'official' scores.

The worst one by far was a round where I was forced to use the automatic hit method of play. It was so stupid as I had already beaten maybe 6 opponents by that point so I clearly didn't need my shots being taken automatically for me.....really frustrating design choices at times in this title.

@kyleforrester87
Hey buddy, I don't wish to give the impression that I do not respect the skill of the people at DF, they are clearly very intelligent people.

My point is though, they used to be in the business of comparing graphics cards and processors and so on, but once they realised the traffic they could generate through comparisons between MS and Sony they exploited it and that is pretty much all they do now.

As a result, in order to justify their content they NEED to find these differences and overstate there relevance as they know there is a rabid section of the community ready to use this information against the platform they don't like.

Re: Soapbox: Why PS4's Big 2017 Titles Handle Female Leads the Right Way

Lovespuds

@Constable_What
What is it about this game that leads you to perceive there is virtue signalling going on, just out of curiosity?

I played through the whole thing and found nothing at all to suggest there was an agenda being set out and across the whole spectrum of the library available on PS4, there are still relatively few female lead characters.

Re: First PS4 Pro and Xbox One X Comparison Fares Unfavourably

Lovespuds

I personally have never liked Digital Foundy as I honestly believe they exaggerate any problems with how games run or exaggerate the importance of differences between versions of games.

If you have to freezeframe a game, zoom in x10 or more and use software to pixel count then at that point I just think it's pointless.

In this instance, as in any of their other videos, the differences appear meaningful when under the microscope but the fact is, in motion and to the naked eye, the differences are negligible.

I always feel like the F1 games on PS1 were the peak of virtual F1, if it doesnt gave Murray Walker commentary it just doesnt feel the same 😂

Re: Poll: Are You Loving Uncharted: The Lost Legacy on PS4?

Lovespuds

I finished it after around 9 hours and for me, I thought it was incredible and if the decide to explore more Chloe and Nadine antics they can take my money now!

Will start again on Crushing over the weekends as I want the Platinum to add to my 7 other Uncgarted plats 😁

Re: Gamescom 2017: Monster Hunter: World's DLC Will Be Free

Lovespuds

My only worry with this game is that I have a real problem killing animals in video games, I am such a wuss that the sound of a yelping dog will make me turn off a game 🤣🤣

I just watched a stream where a beastie was limping after getting a hiding and I got terrible pangs of sympathy for it....i am not sure if I have it in me to kill these animals 😂😂

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 182

Lovespuds

Just 100 percent-ed (I know that's not a word!) Yoshi's Wooly World so I am now jumping into Super Mario WiiU.

I have to say, I am loving the Wii U, between Wii, WiiU and Nintendo Arcade the library is immense and offers a nice change when I need a break from the PS4.

I am still struggling to get through Persona 5 but have hit a bit of a wall after 85 hours or so. I have also gone back to Galak-Z, a massively under appreciated title in my opinion. Not looking too get into anything to juicy as my Uncharted has been dispatched by Shopto....cannot wait!!!

Re: Review: Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (PS4)

@sinalefa
The speedrun trophy is actually really straightforward buddy and there is a nice exploit for the accuracy trophy where, if I remember, you corner a guy who can't die and just keep hosing him....your accuracy climbs really quickly then.

I have platinum-ed every uncharted on both PS3 and PS4, to say I adore Uncharted is an understatement 😂
