I dont want to be 'that guy' but, perhaps the interviewer could have asked him why he felt the need to talk so much smack about PlayStation and Playstation gamers when he was on Microsoft's payroll and whether he feels differently now he is selling a game on PS4......i think we will know the answer.
I recall interviews where he was pretty horrible about other devs too so any respect I had for him as a dev was gradually eroded over time.
I remember that sound precisely, i played on my beloved Commodore 64 π€
I remember Elite: Frontier even more fondly, my girlfriend at the time bought me Frontier, Cannon Fodder and Premiere Manager 2 for my Amiga.......we were 17 at the time........we have been married now for 22 years π
I am not sure that sound is under appreciated by gamers, it's certainly something I am keenly aware of and I know my colleagues at work are the same whenever we are discussing games.
While it's definitely under represented in reviews I think this is partly as a result of the difficulty in demonstrating or describing the audio quality. Short of stating how good the audio is in a review there is little else you can do to demonstrate this to your audience whereas, with the visuals, you can graphically represent this characteristic to your audience, it is more tangible as you can show them the screenshots or video.
Great piece all the same Sammy, it's certainly fair to say it's under- represented by journalists etc. but I honestly do think that gamers do appreciate this aspect of a title.
@ShogunRok
Thanks for taking the time to respond duder, looks like I have some new experiences to look forward to next year with both this and Monster Hunter.....really excited βΊ
Blimey, what a beautiful looking game. This will be my first exposure to this series, will I be able to enjoy it or do I need to gave played the previous titles?
I like the sound of the way the qualifying lap is used to put you in a race with players in your skill bracket however, I can see it being abused by people intentionally doing slow qualifying laps to get an easier race....what do you think?
It's important to me because I tend to play well against AI but when it comes to human opponents I usually get spanked π£
I almost never play online, the next game I suspect I will play online will be Everybody's Gold and then Monster Hunter.
Even then, I still don't begrudge the PSN subscription, the free games have been great (I love Indies) and the discounts on the games I do buy have been great too.
Don't get me wrong, nobody wants to see a price hike and Sony could certainly of done better with the messaging, but at least than a pound a week, i can't grumble too much.
I had this on pre-order as soon as it was announced around 10 weeks or so ago, 32 quid on Shopto.
I very nearly picked it up in the Steam sale a few weeks ago but decided to hold on as I prefer gaming on my PS4. Really chuffed I did wait now as it seems the controls are decent enough once you get to grips with them.
I have 6 stars left to find in Mario Galaxy and then i will get cracking with Shadow Tactics
Hoping to pick up a Switch next week, a pal gets his double staff discount for the day next week and has offered to pick one up up for me at 40% off rrp, so next week I will be playing Zelda BotW if all goes to plan.
@THRILLHOU Extremely under rated title in my opinion, I absolutely loved this game. It's probably the weakest in the series but still far from being a poor game.
As if I don't have enough in my backlog, you might have tempted me into another play through π
As a huge fan of Bastion and Transistor I am very excited to play Pyre.
Otherwise, it looks like I will squeeze in a replay of Evil Within as I loved that game and want a refresh in preparation for the sequel. I had anticipated getting the platinum on Crash but blimey is it tougher than I remembered, this will also keep me busy I reckon.
I thought most of the games shown looked great, especially if you add up all the games across each of the conferences.
I think the shakey start with EA set a negative vibe as I felt it was really poor and while MS misfired in respect of pushing their own products, the multi platform games they showed looked fantastic.
While i wasnt blown away with it, I was satisfied with Sony's conference if I am honest, everything they showed looked fantastic.
There was plenty to be excited for and I feel that just one more new announcement would have changed the perception of their conference completely, just one game more and the whole impression would be different.
And then there is Nintendo, they sold the Switch to me at this year's E3, just with Mario alone, it looked fabulous. Going into E3 I was expecting to come away wanting a Scorpio....what a turn around!
I can't help but feel there is a lot of revisionist history going on with this franchise. I bought it day 1 and absolutely loved it, but I remember nothing but negativity surrounding the it.
Now we are getting a sequel I hear a lot of media outlets declaring the love of the first game......not this site I should add, i dont know if or how you chaps reviewed it, but plenty of others.
Having watched again today, I actually enjoyed it much more. The games were all great, I think it was purely down to anticipation of a couple of unannounced titles that didn't materialise that left a sour taste last night.
With that expectation removed, the presentation was much better and I found I was more focused on what they showed without guessing what was coming next. I am not making excuses here, clearly the show wasn't as impressive as the previous couple of shows but the games they did show all looked awesome.
Similar problem as the EA presser for me, the games look good but the presentation was poor.
I am not so sure Bethesda have enough to justify their own conference to be honest, although I am excited for Wolfenstein and especially for Evil Within 2, that came was criminally underrated in my opinion.
It's frustrating because I feel that the games are actually really good, it's the poor production choices and extremely cringe inducing presenters that are the problem.
To much fake excitement from really poor commentators and presenters, way too much pausing to allow for non existent applause and the ratio of boring talking to actual game play was crazy.
I don't understand how a company can be so oblivious as to what makes a successful conference, just look at how Sony and to a lesser degree, MS do theirs. We are here to see games, show them off.
Not that I have any complaints at all about the catalogue of games this generation so far, but I have to say it is starting to feel like a true Playstation console now, what with Wipeout, Tekken, Crash and now Ace Combat.....just give me an SSX tricky remaster and I will be in heaven.
Really excited to play this, looks daft in all the right ways.
"Our analysis used a third-party API to randomly sample usage data from nearly one million active Xbox One Gamertags over a period of nearly five months starting last September (read the introductory piece for much more about the data and methodology). In the end, only about 1.5 percent of the more than 1.65 billion minutes of Xbox One usage time we tracked was spent on the 300+ backward-compatible Xbox 360 games, in aggregate. That translates to an average of just 23.9 minutes per sampled active Xbox One user spent on Xbox 360 games out of 1,526 average minutes of Xbox One usage during the sampling period."
Whilst purely anecdotal, almost all of my colleagues and friends play video games but not one of them have any interest in backwards compatibility. The only person I know who revisits games is me and I would always take a shiny new remaster over the original.
The stats in the link above say it all for me, turns out, people buy new consoles to play new games.
I always felt great about upgrading as, by the time the Pro came along, my launch PS4 had already provided countless hours of gaming goodness, as a value proposition, my OG PS4 more than delivered!
The Pro itself might be an incremental upgrade, but those differences have made a difference for me on my TV, with the like of Tomb Raider and Horizon absolutely blowing my socks off. Also, Diabolo 3 looks fantastic too.
Warms me cockles to see such a cool, oldschool box design, it's fab.
Adored R&C when that released, easily one of the more enjoyable platinum trophies I have earned. I only wish I had played it on my PS4Pro as I hear it looks spectacular but I was all finished up by the time Pro was released.
Following the recent release of game play videos for Crash, I have no doubt at all that the Nsane trilogy will deliver on what was promised.....I cannot wait!
Looks really good fun but I chose not to get PSVR until there was enough of a library of games to make it worthwhile to me, same approach as Switch.
The other thing holding me back from buying it is I really want to try it first as I am worried about motion sickness, I can't even read a text message in a moving vehicle without feeling squiffy.
@DESS-M-8
the problem as I see it squire, is we are now only ever going to see incremental improvements compared to what has gone before. The leap from standard definition to HD was impressive but we are in a position now where that increase in visual fidelity is going to be less noticeable. All I know is, the games like stellar and I can suspend what I am playing to pop on YouTube or Netflix with no performance issues. On PS3 it was almost impossible to multitasking as it lacked the power and would just grind to a halt.
As for your other complaints, I don't know what to tell you as I feel the complete opposite, i love the controller, I love the functionality and I love the games.
The PS3 was what, 8 years old by the time PS4 came along? It was seriously showing its age with games struggling to run at a decent frame rate or resolution, multitasking was impractical as it's memory was so limited, there was little in the way of social or online infrastructure.
The PS4 offers a huge leap in respect of graphical fidelity, multitasking functionality, online infrastructure and games that would not be possible on PS3.
Personally, I jumped from 360 not long after PS3 was released as I simply preferred the Sony brand, they had never let me down previously and, from the off, I loved my PS3. It also helped that my 360 had died twice before I made the jump to PS3 as this really soured me on MSN consoles.
I bought it bundled with MotorStorm, Resistance and Heavenly Sword. I couldn't believe how good those games were at the time and I continue to love the Motorstorm games even now.
@Rob_230 I adored the PS3, I still do, but I honestly think the PS4 is well on track to overtake PS3.
Japanese studios are firing on all cylinders this generation too compared to PS3 I think, not that PS3 was lacking, but I feel like there are even more this time around.
Will do anything for another Bloodborne title however, the idea of another new IP from FromSoftware has me just as excited. Also, I don't recall ever playing a title set in an Inca/Aztec setting (maybe Rick Dangerous on my old Commodore 64?) so this could be a very unique and interesting setting.
My dream announcement would be a Demons Souls remaster releasing this year and the new title for early 2018.
@KratosMD If you are referring to the original 'phat' PS3 then I would agree seeing as mine was replaced twice but I have owned my slim for about 6 or 7 years and it's been faultless.
What an utterly incredible console, I dread to think how many thousands of hours i spent on my PS3, and continue to spend on it.
I am gagging to play Demon Souls again at the moment but have decided to wait until E3 just in case a remaster is announced (hey, I can dream if I want too!!) π
Without wishing to sound like a blinkered fan boy, I would just like to thank Sony for providing so many exceptional titles, some of my fave franchises were born on PS3, Uncharted, Last of Us, Demons Souls, Motorstorm, Infamous the list goes on.
Hoping to wrap up my no alerts, no kills, no upgrades run through Dishonoured 2. Personally, I am really enjoying the game, but I am excited to start the second play through with all the upgrades and toys at my disposal.
Also plan to get a bit of Turrican II under my belt on the good old Amiga as well as taking a look at the Hotshots beta.
I am downloading the beta now and I am interested to play it, personally, I am not that happy about the focus on online in this game. I liked the characters and carreer progression in world tour.
I feel like I will need a main story that expands on the universe even more and is really well done before I will jump back in. It was the main quest line that kept my interest most, the side quests were kind of mundane in my opinion, so DLC that contains a bunch of side quests won't do it for me.....unless they some how manage to get another Platinum for me to chase.
@roe Dude, support the online game retailers instead of Amazon. Shopto and Simply Games are both cracking companies. Shopto also have a rewards system in place which is pretty good, particularly when you reach gold member status.
@get2sammyb
I agree with you in principle squire, a game retailer with a highstreet presence would be nice, however, this company aren't the answer.
They gouge customers who don't know any better, they are happy to cut out the game devs and publishers by focusing all their efforts on the used game market and their customer service, set out by awful policies from Game HQ, is terrible.
Honestly, who on earth pays Β£50 when they can go online and buy from Shopto for Β£38 - Β£42? Incidently, Shopto's customer service is fantastic in my experience and I can pre order and they don't charge you until the game is dispatched. Similarly, Simply Games are pretty great too, these are the companies I choose to support.
I remember 30 years ago when I used to visit an independent games retailer who was fantastic, he had a genuine love of games, their pricing was fair and you could go in and hang around and chat with the people there.....they were run out of business by the likes of Game and Gamestop. While I would hate to see people lose their jobs, I wouldnt care a jot if Game went down the tubes.
Will take a punt at the Megaman Legacy Collection at that price for sure.
Transistor is a steal at that price too, I flipping loved that game. The platform trophies in Hitman and Laura Croft GO are great fun to get too, really good games.
I have never been able to fully determine how I feel about Aisha, sometimes I think she might be a genuine game fan, a few minutes later she will do or say something that makes me less convinced. Sometimes I think she is doing what she can with what is often less than brilliant material due to the game being shown, other times she makes me really cringe.
While I don't think Ubi conferences are particularly strong, I do like a lot of the games they produce so overall I do tend to enjoy the show.
@xXDibbs
Excellent post buddy, it echoes my feeling too for the most part.
While studio size doesn't excuse a poor game, I think you can cut it some slack where it appears to be a pretty decent title. I suppose the counter to this that the studio should set there sights accordingly, including the price structure, after all, a full price title does come with some expectations.
I am excited to pick this up but I am juggling Persona 5 and Dishonoured 2 at the moment.
I loved this back on the PSP, it is simple in it mechanics but it is so much fun and even though I haven't played it in something like 5 years I still find myself humming the soundtrack to myself when I am bored or cycling to the office etc.
For the same price as a cinema ticket you are getting an utterly classic game so for me, I have no qualms in picking this up as soon as Dishonoured 2 is done. This game must be the ultimate palate cleansing game I reckon
@rjejr
I am not going to get into a slanging match because I come here to avoid the negativity you see on other gaming sites, but just to say it is possible to read someone else's opinion and disagree, but that doesn't mean you then have to try and impose your own opinions on others in the comments section.
See someone else's opinion, accept it, move on. If you want to argue and be negative in tone, go to N4G because I really don't want to see arguments here, I want to experience a fun community.
Others are of the opinion this is a fun game, that it offers good value. Why is that such an issue that you have to create a wall of text suggesting your opinion is more valid?

Re: Tons of PS4 Games Under Β£4 on EU PlayStation Store This Weekend
Will take a punt at the Megaman Legacy Collection at that price for sure.
Transistor is a steal at that price too, I flipping loved that game. The platform trophies in Hitman and Laura Croft GO are great fun to get too, really good games.
Re: Ubisoft Slaps a Date on Its E3 2017 Press Conference
@johncalmc
This made me chuckle
I have never been able to fully determine how I feel about Aisha, sometimes I think she might be a genuine game fan, a few minutes later she will do or say something that makes me less convinced. Sometimes I think she is doing what she can with what is often less than brilliant material due to the game being shown, other times she makes me really cringe.
While I don't think Ubi conferences are particularly strong, I do like a lot of the games they produce so overall I do tend to enjoy the show.
Re: Gwent: The Witcher Card Game Will Be Open to All Next Week on PS4
I could never get into Gwent when playing The Witcher but have always fancied getting into a card game.
I always hoped that Hearthstone would see a console release but that doesn't look like it's on the cards.......see what I did there

@xXDibbs
Re: Video: The 7 Best Beards on PS4
I can't set aside my love of Joel personally, that rugged, salt and pepper look is the business.

Re: Review: LocoRoco Remastered (PS4)
I am excited to pick this up but I am juggling Persona 5 and Dishonoured 2 at the moment.
I loved this back on the PSP, it is simple in it mechanics but it is so much fun and even though I haven't played it in something like 5 years I still find myself humming the soundtrack to myself when I am bored or cycling to the office etc.
For the same price as a cinema ticket you are getting an utterly classic game so for me, I have no qualms in picking this up as soon as Dishonoured 2 is done. This game must be the ultimate palate cleansing game I reckon

@rjejr
