Re: Death Stranding Release Date Confirmed for November 2019

@Gamer83 I’m still in that same place too, except I only consider msg1 and maybe 2 great. More recently I remember him as the guy who thought “she breathes through her skin” to be a legit reason for the only major female to a naked with a big gun.

(I do hope the game turns out, but I’m skeptical)

Re: Another Death Stranding Teaser from Hideo Kojima Appears

This and his comments about violence before (“there are violent elements”, implying that it isn’t the primary focus) makes me wonder if it’s like Journey where you meet anonymous players while chasing your objective? I’m sure it isn’t a walking simulator or anything though.

The rope metaphor is central to unravel too, fwiw.

Re: Hideo Kojima Releases Death Stranding Teaser - Is a New Trailer Coming?

Mega-Gazz

@viciousarcanum I wouldn’t say consistently talented. MGS1 was amazing, MSG2 had nice graphics but the cut-scene to gameplay ratio was way off and the story wasn’t great. MGS3 and on was mediocre at best, and MGS5 was practically offensive and derivative, certainly not good.

@kyleforrester87 I wouldn’t say Nioh Devs were auteurs, but they make great games in the right way (transparency and listening to feedback). In the strictest sense of the word, Kojima is an auteur (link to def’n) because he exerts control over the end product.... but not in the common sense that he’s a visionary above and beyond normal.

Re: Hideo Kojima Releases Death Stranding Teaser - Is a New Trailer Coming?

In contrast, we have hours of footage for Nioh 2 and they’re actively gathering feedback to shape/change how the game will work. Meanwhile the supposed “auteur” won’t even give a straight answer as to what genre his game is, much less show gameplay. I know which will get my money.

(PS, he hasn’t done anything revolutionary since MGS1, so I’m not sure he deserves the title of “auteur”)

Re: Soapbox: 7/10 Is a Bad Review Score? The World's Gone Mad

Mega-Gazz

I don’t think the facts agree with this article. Just take a look at distribution of scored on metacritic, and you’ll see that 70 is significantly below the median score, and likely a full standard deviation below it.

We may want 50 to be average, but the reality is that 80 is closer to the average.

People are correct then to take a 70 as a sign of caution, given limited time to play games.

Re: Kojima Plays Death Stranding on PS4 Every Day

@themcnoisy as you point out he was forced out. And as you point out he was isolated before that. Let’s assume Konami aren’t sadistic and self-destructive for a second - they were driven to the point of isolating him from the development team for a reason, and that reason isn’t that he took direction well or was a team player. The coverage was one-sided but there is obviously more than one side to the story.

MGS was amazing, no doubt. MGS2 had breathtaking graphics, mostly. After that the games had nothing really “new” or “genius”, and certainly not a coherent plot

Re: Kojima Plays Death Stranding on PS4 Every Day

Mega-Gazz

@AdamNovice I disagree. He’s a Diva that Konami couldn’t work with or get to come in line, and no matter how badly they handled that situation, they didn’t get fed up with him for no reason.

On the other hand, he’s the guy who thought “she breathes through her skin” was a totally legit explanation for having a mostly naked female sniper.

He certainly delivered something special with the first MGS, but since then I’m not convinced he’s magic.

Re: Kojima Plays Death Stranding on PS4 Every Day

Mega-Gazz

@AdamNovice open world is nigh meaningless - bloodborne is open world, so is AC, so is GTA. “Exploration with passive combat elements” sound a lot like a walking simulator... or something else?

Buyer beware is all I’m saying.

Re: Talking Point: What Free April 2019 PS Plus Games Do You Want?

Mega-Gazz

I want the DMC 1-4 collection, but that may bleed DMCV sales so unlikely....

Last month we had a shooter and a puzzle game. So likely neither of those types.
Jan/Feb both included AAA Ubisoft games (Steep & For Honor), so I’m looking to other publishers.

Maybe The handsome collection to coincide with BL3 announcement?
A racing game like GT sport or project cars?
