@get2sammyb I guess I’ll have to compare directly, because I still don’t understand if the headset experience will be different than what a 5.1 or 7.1 surround system can do already.

I do understand that the tempest engine can track and reproduce more different sound sources at once, but still not sure if a headset would make things better or not.

@get2sammyb What I haven’t understood is that this seems to be limited to headsets, but I play using my surround sounds system. I recall that Hellblade encouraged the use of a good headset above other outputs, which confused me.

I’ve been able to hear footsteps behind me (including soulsborne games) all of the previous generation, so I’m unclear if this is just the same thing coming to headsets or actually something new?

Assuming a good surround sound system, would you say the 3D audio on a headset is superior or inferior?

My PS5 has kindly pointed out that I have already played ~547 hours of this game, and I haven’t even finished all the DLC (I stopped halfway through the 3rd one). I can’t believe I’m thinking about playing more

Demon’s souls? I heard they used it.

No mention of haptics? How well are they done?

@God_of_Nowt Thanks. I was worried about something like a bad sector (or the SSD equivalent) on the chip, or maybe a weird power supply issue. But I used it for a couple hours after that and no more issue.... mind you I didn’t use the game that was downloading when I had the OS crash (bugsnax), so it could still be something with that part of storage.

@God_of_Nowt sorry for leaning on you so hard, but you’ve been so useful.

Here is my experience so far:

• When I turned on the machine for the first time, I got a beep then nothing. Second time same thing. I changed the plug to a different plug, then pressed power and it started up fine - but for half a second it did the “repairing system storage” or whatever.....
• Later after setup and everything I started downloading a game, and just on the system menus I got a crash, screen black, then a bug report screen (which I submitted).

Should I be concerned or do you think those are just software issues with the OS?

@God_of_Nowt honestly, do you think I’d be better off just leaving the ps5 in the box for a week and work on my ps4 backlog while I wait for an OS patch?

So to be clear this is a problem with suspending the game, not with rest mode right? Still safe to use rest mode when not suspending a game?

What a ***** show. Ebgames site just died, so did the source. Bestbuy had a 30 minute queue to say it was sold out, walmart didn’t even show stock..... sigh.

A useful review, I’ll wait for a sale and let them fix the bugs in the meantime.

Not many ps5’s in the wild, so not as many connections to the servers. The limiting factor on speed will be the throttling on the Sony server side, and they’ll have to do that once they have 100 million connections

No pre-order bonus it seems, so I’ll wait for the ps5 performance details. Curious how well 3rd parties optimized load times/etc, and how well it hit the 60fps target.

@get2sammyb still looking to understand the DRM situation if I have a ps4 and a ps5. Can both be primary, allowing me to share purchases with my kids on my old PS4?

Worth noting that the Q80t only does 120hz in certain modes, and specifically not game mode from what I’ve read. Bottom line is you can play at 120hz but have slightly higher latency.

@Olmaz @get2sammyb I feel like there was such community groupthink about DmC (the remake) that the scoring of this game was influenced by the excitement of getting back to the main series.

Having played all the DMC games only after DmC, I must say that the remake (DmC) is much, much better than DMCV or any of the numbered series.

Mmmm 120fps. Interesting to see how well ps5 does the 120 FPS. The XSX handled 120fps really well according to digital foundry.

While the graphics are night and day better on ps5, the animations stand out on the ps5 because they haven’t kept up with the visuals.

I’m really disappointed at the degree to which heavy armor and hammers trivialized the game. Hammers was a role-play choice (I used Harley Quinn appearance), but ended up with a heavy attack that steamrolls everything.

@get2sammyb game designers and lawyers don’t necessarily see eye to eye, I expect.

@Feena They don’t make money off of hardware. Their strategy is to have a larger install base from the start, so that developers are more likely to make stuff for their systems. Right now the install base is heavily weighted towards PS4 over xbone, and with this strategy on day 1 their install base will be much larger than ps5.

Exclusivity is always evil and anti-consumer.... Its the same how I don’t want 10 different streaming services because shows are locked behind exclusivity nonsense. Only difference here is that the product design may have to be changed at significant cost or loss of user experience in order to accommodate the lowest common denominator of hardware.

Paid advertising spot.

Anything coming out on PC especially has to cater to a certain lowest common denominator - to a lesser degree true for games releasing on xbox too. That lowest common denominator will re-introduce those restrictions like gap-squeezing and level design limitations that Sony has worked so hard to eliminate.
