Re: Reaction: What Happens to PlayStation if Microsoft Buys Activision Blizzard?

SplooshDmg

What really changes is that Sony is now in the ring with an extremely hostile competitor, as opposed to the seemingly docile and complacent one last gen. This deal has now been tested and proven to boost competition, and that's exactly what is going to happen. It won't happen overnight, but MS will now be taking control of all ABK marketing once the current deals expire, and that alone is going to be a huge bump for Xbox. You want to see the new CoD announcements; you tune into Xbox 'not E3'.

Re: After Initial Concerns, Sony Now in Talks with Roblox for PlayStation Version

SplooshDmg

Money is one problem, the actual predators on Roblox are another thing entirely. I've kept a pretty close eye on the content my daughter gets into on that thing, and I have definitely caught her chatting with what I'm pretty sure were probably sexual predators based on the things she was being asked. After that I basically felt no other option than to just lock the parental settings down as hard as possible. Which basically just disables half the game, so now she just complains that she can't play certain games with her friends. But oh well.

Re: Publishers Don't Like 'Value Destructive' Subs Like Xbox Game Pass, Says Sony Boss

@Rmg0731 Do you sincerely think MS Rewards is them just giving stuff away for free? MS Rewards is just an elaborate advertising racket and encourages people to use Bing to drive user engagement. You search on Bing, they collect advertising data and sell it, then give you pennies of the dollars they got paid. It's how Google makes money as well, Google just has no incentive to reward you for using Google because they're already the market leader by a country mile.

@Ralizah We've talked about this several times. We buy Nintendo game almost always day one, because the bottom is basically never going to fall out of the price tag. However, I have yet to pay full price for a single PS5 exclusive, because I can basically count on PS+ or just deep sales within six months to a year. The only brand that doesn't destroy their own value is Nintendo. The others just destroy it in different ways.

Re: Microsoft's Potential Game Plan in 2020: 'Spend Sony Out of Business'

SplooshDmg

@UltimateOtaku91 Right, I think there really has to be a way to show actual real intent, and I just don't think this email does. MS is obviously in a position to spend Sony out of business, but honestly, that wouldn't benefit them. The same way a regulator can't try to block a merger, a regulator can try to force divesture of assets. If for example Sony did for whatever reason go bust, the governments could then start trying to legally force MS to shrink its gaming division by selling something like ABK or Bethesda, because they wouldn't really have a viable competitor at that point. This trial here has nothing to do with MS's size. This trial is only exploring whether this merger would decrease or increase competition. There are arguments for both sides of it, it's up to the judge to determine which is greater or lesser.

@Tharsman This has been the really interesting part of this trial. There's been a lot of emails where you can tell that the higher ups at MS don't really agree with one another. When Bethesda was bought, we heard things like "First, better or best" then we got "case by case" then we got "We bought Bethesda to make exclusives for Xbox". I really do think comms like this shed some light into why consumers have been confused, because there really isn't a set-in stone playbook and they're basically still arguing about it at HQ. Sort of like Phil said the other day, there was talks to make Minecraft Dungeons exclusive to PC and Xbox, but here we are today, and it isn't. Because those talks obviously didn't end with exclusive to Xbox and PC.

Re: Xbox Insinuates It Bought Bethesda to Block Starfield PS5 Console Exclusivity

SplooshDmg

@Fiendish-Beaver Yeah, I listened to the entire testimony and that's the way I heard it. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I'd stick to my guns that was how it was laid out. I don't think a full transcript actually gets released, it's mostly just hear say at this point, because it's a lot to take in and no one really jotted it all down word for word. Unless we want to make an attempt at stealing the courts own recordings of the trial. LIKE NINJAS.

Re: Xbox Insinuates It Bought Bethesda to Block Starfield PS5 Console Exclusivity

SplooshDmg

@Tharsman I think Grumbles point here is that Phil made the claim that games aren't necessarily exclusive to Sony, as much as they are excluded from Microsoft specifically. Like what we saw with VIIR, there was basically an 18 month window that it was PS only, then came to PC. But the agreement could include something akin to Nintendo being fine after x amount of years, but no Xbox ever.

Re: Xbox Insinuates It Bought Bethesda to Block Starfield PS5 Console Exclusivity

SplooshDmg

@Grumblevolcano I have actually given a lot of consideration to the fact that 7 Remake could possibly come to a more powerful Nintendo later down the road. Really, though. I don't see any reason to not believe Phil's testimony here, because there's surely evidence on their end to back it up or Sony would be swinging from rafters saying it isn't true. This is REAL court. People might not like what they're saying, but in reality, it's probably the truth or at least a slightly modified version of it, on all parties part.

Re: Sony Eager to Ensure PS Plus Remains Relevant and Offers More Value

SplooshDmg

I've enjoyed my seven months with PS+ Premium, so far. I wouldn't tell you I use it every day, or even every month, but I've got my $90 out of it already. I'm indifferent enough with it that I genuinely can't decide if I want to keep it or leave it. Part of me likes it, the other part says it's not worth signing up again. Decisions, decisions.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the Final Fantasy 16 PS5 Demo?

SplooshDmg

@Cordyceps Ahh you know, it's alright. I mean, I'm glad I was able to try the demo, because SE is cool in that regard and actually still offers proper demos. If anything I was able to kill the curiosity, but if anything at least people are excited about FF again. I'll take that for what it is.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the Final Fantasy 16 PS5 Demo?

SplooshDmg

@tallythwack I've literally never seen The Godfather, or Goodfellas, or Scarface, or Schindler's List, you name it, I ain't seen it. I just don't have a particularly long attention span, actual medical condition. So if my hands aren't busy, or I'm not reading, I have a difficult time paying attention to things. When cutscenes are too frequent or run too long at a time, I just can't stay focused on the game. I love stories, I just sort of need them presented in a format that's not quite a movie. And again, I'm not trying to take anything away from anyone else.

I wasn't sold on the game, but I tried the demo and confirmed it, which is part of what the demo is for. Which is a shame to me because I've been playing this franchise since I was a child. But it's evolved into something that truly just isn't for me now. Oh, well, such is life.
