I’m still very pleased with the Amazon glitch a few years back that meant the Aim & Firewall: Zero Hour bundle cost £19.99.
It’s not worth overpaying for the Aim due to the limited supported of games. It is, however, a nice piece of hardware and aesthetically it’s very well designed compared to a lot of gun peripherals down the years.
I’ve not been following this game as much of late. I’m all for new IP, but in a way I’d rather this was Dishonored 3. Such a wonderfully realised series, it’s a shame we’ve not heard as to whether there will be further entries.
Golden Abyss really is quite entertaining. It has less set-pieces than the main entries and there are more puzzles, but this is no bad thing at all. The use of the Vita-unique features is well implemented and adds a little more interest to the puzzles.
Yes, purely for A Plague Tale. I started this on PS4 a while ago, so happy to return to it on PS5, once I finally have it set up again. No PS gaming for over three months - sad face.
3 has the better story. 4 was good, with a well-realised villain. What I’ve played of 5 has been disappointing - the story seems rather directionless. I felt that most of the missions were clean up or fetch quests unrelated to the main story. The gunplay I felt to be rather poor too, it’s a pain to aim and the weapons have no weight to them. It’s not a bad game and I plan to go back to it, but the story just wasn’t pulling me in, which is a shame, as I like the setting. The use of a silent protagonist doesn’t aid matters after 3 & 4’s voiced player characters.
Rage 2 is a lot of fun, purely down to the combat - it’s superbly implemented, not much about plays better than this in that regard. Overall, the game is not remarkable, but there is still enjoyment to be had. I’m not sure why they went with a voiced protagonist for the sequel, it separates it too much from the original. Have you played/completed the second DLC? I’ve not touched that yet and was wondering if it’s worth it, seeing as it requires levelling up first.
Enjoy Vader Immortal - it’s excellent. It introduces new mechanics across each episode to keep things fresh. The dojo sections add a little extra - although make some space for those Move controllers, there will be lots of arm flailing going on.
This doesn’t seem particularly remarkable - being able to play the year-old base game, even if it is part of the Director’s Cut version isn’t exactly a USP.
The combat can indeed be sluggish. Have you played Shattered Memories? That does away with the combat entirely and replaces it with tense chase sequences and it works very well.
What about the Climax-developed Shattered Memories? That’s a very good Silent Hill game, a very good reimagining and a very good attempt at introducing some new concepts to the series. Admittedly it perhaps sits outside the main series and is arguably not canon, but it’s also arguably one of the best Silent Hill games.
Perhaps Sam Barlow should be given another go at the series?
Nope, it’s Abandoned. I shall hear nothing more of it.
Or perhaps this game and Abandoned combine together to create some bizarre modern day equivalent of a Sonic & Knuckles lock-on cartridge, one set in the normal Silent Hill, the other in the alternate world. The full game is only playable after paying £140 for two games.
The Switch had an outdated processor on release, that seems to be doing okay.
I would also argue that Remote Play was marketed as a major feature (after the aborted effort on PS3). The lack of L3 and R3 meant that actually using this feature was far from ideal for the majority of games. The touchpad/touchscreen alternatives were unintuitive and unresponsive. A few first party games got the implementation right in terms of the touchpad, but generally it was a cumbersome alternative to clickable sticks, which by the time of the Vita’s release, had been a feature of controllers for many years.
It’s not surprising that companies like Hori developed cases that provided some form of solution to the stick problem.
“It means you can no longer communicate with your friends…”
Oh well.
I pulled out my Vita today purely to check on the battery. The slim version has a lovely svelteness that is rather refreshing after becoming so accustomed to the relative heft of the Switch. If it wasn’t for the proprietary memory and lack of clickable sticks, its lifespan may have been prolonged. No physical L3 and R3 was such a mistake, especially considering the emphasis on Remote Play.
I don’t understand some of the negativity towards this game - it had a great sense of atmosphere, it still remains graphically stunning, the presentation is highly cinematic and the game isn’t overlong. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would gladly replay it again. It was a perfect early-generation showcase.
Repetitive cover-shooter mechanics and too short, were those the main downsides?
I wasn’t referencing any specific examples, but was thinking more of demos that also include additional content, trailers etc.
I would agree that it’s perhaps the most questionable aspect of this whole scenario - why release a separate app, and one that apparently will have little content at launch, as a promotional tool? There is the possibility that something playable could be contained within the app, or it could be updated with a demo at a later date.
It does become a lot more questionable the more events are dissected. We are being told that what was shown wasn’t even representative of the game? This is the worst marketing approach ever if it is a genuine Blue Box Studios game. Conversely, it could also be the opposite if it does indeed play in their favour. However, the whole thing has blown up in such a way that if it’s not Kojima-related, what they do release would have to be truly remarkable indeed.
Has there been any discussion regarding Kojima’s relationship with Konami around all this?
It wouldn’t seem so bizarre if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s just intended as a promotional app for a game. This sort of thing has probably cropped up in the past without any fanfare whatsoever. It is a very strange way to go about marketing a game indeed. Are the issues with the app really that bad that they will take two months to fix?
The whole saga has become rather uninteresting now - it’s either a marketing mess or the most drawn out and obscure way to promote a much bigger project that’s been seen for a long time, or ever. As it stands, it’s no longer of interest - a two month wait to see an app that will likely not have much content at launch, that is intended to promote a game from a small studio - remarkable. It’s bordering on absurd that this came to such prominence. At this point, only an actual, real Silent Hill game coming out of this could redeem the situation.
Miles Morales Ultimate Edition was £45 from Amazon for a period in February. Sometimes the Prime Day deals aren’t always that great, perhaps it worth shopping around before jumping on some of these deals.
I recently pick up a new copy of Elex for the bargain price of £3.09. The digital version seemed to hold its price for quite a while after release if I recall.
Disruptor was a rather good game if memory serves correctly.
There are some schools of gamers who sell their last generation consoles as soon as a new one is released and then there are the collectors. Those are the people who happily dig out and enjoy older games. I would definitely play previous generation games on PS5 if it was possible.
I was expecting the trailer to detail all the new content - I would much prefer to see some onscreen text setting out exactly what is expected.
Is there any indication as to when this comes out? Presumably it’s going to be before Back 4 Blood releases and potentially steals some of the player base.
I will likely pick this up, especially as I don’t have the the DLC.
I played BF4 on PS3 for 18 months before upgrading to a PS4 and its version of the game. It took a long time to get used to the upgrade - the PS3 version only supported 32 players and all the maps were smaller versions than those found on the PS4. The game played noticeably differently across the platforms for these reasons.
Battlefield 4 is the only game I’ve played multiplayer for many years. I really didn’t get on with the gun play of 1 & V. If the new game plays more like 4, with the visuals of its successors, then I’m definitely sold.
It’s good fun and looks fairly decent on Switch. Not much option for anything other than handheld gaming at the moment, so the Switch is system of choice right now.
I started playing Immortals on Switch a week or so ago. It’s precisely the less than serious nature of the writing where the appeal lies. The continual Prometheus/Zeus voiceover helps to relieve some of the open world fatigue. I can certainly see why it might not be to some people’s tastes, but it is indeed a pleasant surprise to see something that at least tries to do things a little differently in what is becoming quite a stale genre.
I know it’s no masterpiece, but it’s one of those games that clicked with me. The term “open world” is really to be applied very loosely here - it feels like a large hub connecting more linear interior “levels”. The megatexture tech makes for a wholly unique aesthetic and it’s the overall look of the world that is part of its biggest draw. Whilst the sequel bettered it in terms of gunplay and combat, it failed to introduce a proper open world that wasn’t just full of nothing. The original still remains one of my favourite games, if only because I find the visuals and the world design so well realised.
This remains one of my favourite games of the past few years. The music is superb and the atmosphere, particularly at nighttime, is perfectly judged. The asymmetrical multiplayer aspect is also a great fit.
It would be nice to see a PS5 update - given the excellent post-launch support this is not implausible.
I’m rather unexcited for the sequel - aesthetically it seems to have lost much about what made the original unique.
