I thought the Backbone was expensive. Admittedly this does have the bonus of an included screen, but apart from that, what is the benefit? It's another, arguably limited-use device to charge when many might already have dedicated handhelds.
I own a Switch and a Steam Deck - I'm not desperate to play PS5 on the toilet.
I see this going the way of the PSTV - hefty reductions months after release.
I didn’t play a huge amount of the game, but dropping the narration and opting for a more realistic art style sound like bad ideas. The art style in particular is what made the game stand out. Dropping both these elements would have perhaps made the game more serious - the lighter, more cartoony feel of the game is what made it unique, but perhaps Ubisoft were right (and wrong) and everything should be like everything else.
I started The Callisto Protocol on PS5 last night. Two crashes in thirty minutes - this is the physical version and updates had yet to download before I started the game.
Is the updated/patched game going to improve matters? I detected stuttering, predominantly during cutscenes. What little I’ve played seems good, but if these issues persist it’s going to impair the experience.
Well that’s it, video games officially died at 7:01pm on 27/07/23. Their demise was not anticipated. They left this world suddenly and in the most tragic way imaginable. We will miss them.
Release date announced three weeks before release. This is very reassuring. Three weeks is ample time to build hype for this film and ensure that tickets sales are strong and that it makes a decent profit.
I’m not sure about this, possibly, but it it wasn’t designed as user-replaceable. Some early models of PSP had a user replaceable battery; I believe Sony sold their own first-party batteries.
This is old news, surely? There were some ridiculous sales 3-4 months ago in Tesco stores nationwide when it was announced they would be leaving the games market. Elden Ring was as low as £6.25 in some shops. I picked up GoWR and GT7 for £30 each, but GoWR dropped as low as £12.50 in some stores. This slashing of prices was to clear all the stock and the most popular titles all sold out very swiftly back in March. It was a little bizarre to see the frantic shoppers, all clearly directed by sites like HotUkDeals. Tesco’s decision to stop selling video games was common knowledge months ago.
This is so refreshing. Just a (hopefully) solid game, a complete, start to finish experience that isn’t bogged down by such a thing as micro-transactions. Again, it’s a sad state of affairs that it needs to be stated that a single-player action-adventure game won’t feature the option for the player to pay to download utterly pointless things.
I don’t really feel like revisiting the rest of what BotW has to offer after beating Ganon. It’s the most I’ve gamed in ages and I feel a little burnt out on it.
This weekend - some Dying Light co-op, a little more TLOU 1 on PS5 and maybe some Control on Steam Deck.
I played it on release on PS4 Pro. I experienced a couple of crashes and the odd minor glitch, nothing that really impacted greatly on my experience.
On the other hand, I fail to see how Redfall was was released in the state it was and also not removed from storefronts. It is the buggiest game I have ever played and freezes and hard crashes were numerous.
Discussions such as this need to be put into perspective. Each user experience is different, but for me, Redfall’s deficiencies are ten-fold those of Cyberpunk’s in its release state.
The fact that the developers are citing so many other games as their inspiration is an immediate turn-off for me.
Be inspired by something else, please. Look beyond the medium for ideas, then perhaps we might actually start seeing some original games.
“It’s Jaws, but in space”. Perhaps we need need to move away from this mentality.
And it adopts the new obsession with a single camera-shot throughout, as if it’s the most bold and audacious method of immersive storytelling imaginable. Make a good game with a good story, it doesn’t matter how you do it. The camera cuts or lack thereof are not a selling point.
I completed BotW this week, so if I go back to that it will be to try and achieve the better ending.
On PS it’s a little bit more of TLOU Pt. 1.
I also started GoW again, having not progressed very far on release. I’m not sure the endless hack and slash is for me. I appreciate the game looks great and is supposed to have an excellent story, but I just don’t seem to be into the gameplay loop.
Couldn’t Portable Ops, Peace Walker and Acid 1 & 2 make up a separate Vol.3? Arguably Peace Walker is a main series entry, but would it not make some sense to have 4, Ground Zeroes and 5 in one package and the remainder of the handheld games in a Vol.3?
Or just put everything in Vol.2 and make everyone happy.
More BOTW. I’ve reached Calamity Ganon, but I’m going to take a little more time exploring the world and “powering up”. It’s such a phenomenal game and reminds me of the magic and wonder felt experiencing Ocarina of Time on release.
I’ve also started TLOU Part 1. The improvement in fidelity is immediately noticeable, particularly on the character models and animations. Not sure if I will see it all the way through though, far too much in the backlog.
Yes, I found it to be a strange omission that the article failed to mention that this is not a new game and that the previous version was released for the original PSVR. “Final Cut” alludes to this being a newer version of an existing game.
I played this day one. I had a few hard crashes and the occasional quirk, but what I experienced was absolutely nothing like what I saw in my time playing Redfall. Crashes, freezing in mid-air, multiple items floating in the air, many instances of NPCs stuck in T-poses, quest-givers spawning their doppelgänger (floating in space doing a T-pose no less). Was the removal of Cyberpunk from the PS Store fair or justified, especially given the state of games such as Redfall? Perhaps not.
In summary - my experience of Cyberpunk at launch wasn’t that bad, it sounds better now, enjoy.
Oh really? Honestly, I’m not sure the Deck is going to be a great place to place this. I’m finding that the more demanding games are draining the battery after 90 minutes - I don’t see this being any different.
I've seen some video analyses of the game saying that Gollum isn't a character deserving of his own game, that Gollum would never sneak into such and such a place, it's very out of character and doesn't represent the books. Regarding the former, why not? There is a lot that can be done with the character, but giving him a bird pet is not one of them. In relation to the latter, it's been a long time since I've read the books, but I recall that sneaking places he shouldn't is absolutely Gollum's thing.
This game sounds buggy, glitchy and full of extremely poor design choices.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Red Dead Redemption's PS4 Port?
If I get this anywhere it’s going to be on Switch in a sale. Given it’s Rockstar, there won’t ever be a sale.

Not with a Xbox controller, at least not mine. Just getting that cover off requires Herculean effort.
Re: If Sony Does Ever Make a PS Vita 2, It'll Probably Need Replaceable Batteries
This has always been the downside of handhelds. Eventually, years down the line, to use them it will require sitting next to a wall outlet.
Xbox actually has it right with their controllers. They take standard batteries, but also accept a rechargeable battery pack - let’s stick with this.
