Re: We're Nearing a Year Since the Last Major PlayStation Press Conference

art_of_the_kill

Like I've said, it's pretty damn telling that Sony can't even be up front about us with Horizon Forbidden West's delay. That's one thing that they might as well just tell us.

I don't know if they're waiting for something to announce to soften the blow, but I think we all know that they're going to have a holiday season that's relatively sparse with software, and nothing to compete with Halo Infinite or Metroid Dread.

Re: Such Is Sony's Secrecy, Fans Hope New PlayStation Banners Mean Impending News

art_of_the_kill

Keep in mind that Sony's lack of communication does not just extend to us, the game-buyers. It also extends to game developers as well. Remember, when Sony was going to shut down the Vita's storefront they did not bother to tell ANYONE about it. People who were still working on Vita games received the news at the exact same time as the rest of us, even after Sony had given them dev kits and did not let on in any way that they were planning to close the store.

Also, general reminder that they STILL have not confirmed the Horizon Forbidden West delay nearly two full weeks since it was rumored. They haven't denied the rumor, nor acknowledged it in any way. There is no reason whatsoever why they should not just confirm it if it's true, and yet... that's apparently just how averse they are to sharing information with us.

Re: Gamescom Opening Night Live Will Be a Two-Hour Event Featuring This Year's Biggest Games

art_of_the_kill

Another event Sony won't attend because Jim Ryan is completely averse to sharing any information with us.

Oh, and speaking of not sharing information with us, at what point is Sony or Guerilla planning to confirm the Horizon Forbidden West delay? They sure as hell haven't denied it, which definitely suggests that it's true, and they've just allowed the rumor to fester for nearly a week. Might as well just rip the band-aid off and admit they have no exclusives for the rest of the year.

Re: Sony Confirms Nixxes Purchase Will Aid Future PC Ports

art_of_the_kill

@DertieBertie I dunno. The concept of more money for developers certainly didn't seem to help us get a Days Gone sequel. If I recall correctly, Sony put the kibosh on that BEFORE porting Days Gone to PC, so...

@Milktastrophe If Sony wants more money to go around, one thing they could do is stop blowing their money on ridiculous crap. They could stop doing nonsensical stuff like buying EVO for no apparent reason, or dumping money into Epic Games investments. Oh, and another thing they could do is stop moneyhatting third-party exclusives since they now believe exclusivity is so worthless now... or perhaps they just believe only timed exclusivity matters, I don't know. I just believe it to be one hell of a paradox for them to be going out of their way to secure exclusive content, while simultaneously giving away their own exclusive content.

Also, no, they're not going to "drop" PlayStation. Per se. They're just going to become less committed to their existing base, because like it or not, we're not the only ones Sony is chasing after now. However, we ARE the ones who are being actively misled or deceived by Sony as they still use the promise of exclusives to try to get us to buy their consoles. We are the ones who are ending up with the worst versions of Sony's games in exchange for getting to play them as little as two years earlier.

Re: Sony Confirms Nixxes Purchase Will Aid Future PC Ports

art_of_the_kill

Yep, this is the ONLY reason they acquired them, let's be real. It's absolutely unbelievable to imagine Sony buying a studio not for the benefit of PlayStation but for the total benefit of the PC community, yet that's where we are.

Because remember, PS gamers do not benefit from these PC ports in ANY way, and there is only potential disappointment or frustration in it for us. It unfortunately seems that Sony has now become far too comfortable with throwing their existing users under the bus as they chase after the PC community.

Re: Sony Acquires Dutch Developer Nixxes to Beef Up First-Party Tech Support

art_of_the_kill

@Grumblevolcano That is the obvious endpoint of where they're heading, yes. And they're barreling towards it so fast that they might get there sooner than we think. Look at how far they've come in barely a year and a half. From Herman Hulst saying:

"We think Horizon Zero Dawn is a good fit for PC to show people what they may be missing out on."

To him saying:

"Our PC players are important to us (the PC players that they, of course, did not even have prior to 2020, not counting people who may have been using PSNow on PC. Yeah, they're "important" to Sony now, apparently.) and PlayStation owners will receive the best versions of our games at launch" (Fully cognizant of the fact that PlayStation owners ultimately will not have the best versions of their games.)

Sony purchasing a studio specifically to port games to PC? Yep, that's just part of the insane escalation. But of course it has to be dressed up in a way so it won't seem like Sony did something that actively offers no benefit to the PlayStation community. Besides, they still want to mislead us into buying their systems, anyway.

Re: PS4 Exclusive Ghost of Tsushima Could Be Coming to PC as 'Only on PlayStation' Is Removed from Box

art_of_the_kill

@Shepherd_Tallon
You're definitely right about people being entitled to be angry. As far as I'm concerned, every single PlayStation owner who is angry about this has a right to be. And it still needs to be pushed back against that the only party who remains angry are Sony fanboys who are sad about seeing their precious exclusivity go bye-bye. This is all about Sony being actively encouraged to act in a way that offers zero benefit to their existing customers: misleading them with exclusivity, then making the best versions not available to those who possibly bought their consoles for them.

Also, no this is definitely not a life or death thing for Sony. Not in the slightest. And you know what, if Sony were really so strapped for cash that they needed to make some extra dough, one cost-saving measure I would recommend is for them to just stop money-hatting timed third-party exclusives. That's something they could easily stop doing. But no, instead...er...they want to make sure their console has exclusive content worth buying hardware for....while at the same time giving their exclusive content away...?

Yeah, that's totally not a ridiculous paradox or anything, but Jim Ryan gonna Jim Ryan.

@Shepherd_Tallon
Like I said, from where I'm standing, the dissent doesn't really seem like a minority anymore. At least not as much as it was. Surprise surprise, though, how even in this comment section, many are saying they would gladly drop PlayStation consoles if their games keep coming to PC--people who are literally happy about the prospect of not needing to own a PS system anymore. I find it rather funny how people who are put off by the dissent neglect to acknowledge things like that--the fact that some people are happy about it because they WANT to have a reason to not buy into the PlayStation ecosystem. And Sony is giving it to them.

But sure, totally changes nothing. And PS owners should totally be happy about being directly misled and lied to by Sony and the fact others are going to be playing the superior versions of Sony's games that won't be available to people who actually bought and play on Sony's consoles. Why oh why would anyone have a problem with that?

Re: PS4 Exclusive Ghost of Tsushima Could Be Coming to PC as 'Only on PlayStation' Is Removed from Box

art_of_the_kill

Funny how I'm tending to see more and more dissent over this issue as Sony continues to go down this road. I remember last year when the HZD PC port was announced how so many of the comments were "who cares?! it's three years old." or "why are you so mad more people will get to play it?" Of course, many of those comments are still abundant, but I'm definitely noticing how more and more people are starting to not be okay with this.

In any case, if Sony is indeed putting GoT on PC after only a year, then it just merely confirms what I've been saying about what would happen if they start feeling comfortable doing something that offers ZERO benefit to their existing userbase. If a year is now acceptable for a first-party Sony exclusive to lose its exclusivity, how much of a stretch will it be for us to get to merely six months of exclusivity? How much of a stretch is it for that window to keep shrinking until Sony becomes MS and does date-and-date releases? I mean, we've already come SO FAR in just a year if Herman Hulst is saying that Sony's PC players are "important" to them despite the fact that they had no PC players at all just a year ago. This is escalating quickly.

Re: PS5 Games Are Still Selling Poorly at Retail in Japan

art_of_the_kill

Honestly, this is the bed Sony's made for themselves as far as I'm concerned. Despite what they say, they've clearly made an active decision to leave Japan behind, as primarily evidenced by their shuttering of Japan Studio specifically because they wanted to make games that would have primarily targeted Japanese audiences. It shouldn't be surprising that what Sony produces now doesn't really appeal to Japan. Hell, the last exclusive they had that sold well in Japan was Ghost of Tsushima, a game that was actually centered around Japanese history, go freaking figure.

Beyond that, they've absolutely surrendered their home country to Nintendo.

Re: Reaction: Xbox Game Pass Is the Thorn in PS5's Side

art_of_the_kill

Frankly, I think Sony deserves a good kick in the rear with all the poor decisions they've been making lately, but it kinda seems like they're immune to competition, like in the PS2 era.

Hell, they actually think they're going to gain market share this gen despite Game Pass and putting their own exclusives on PC. But no, I don't really see Sony being threatened overall.

Re: Xbox Head Targets Sony for Not Launching Games Day and Date on PC

art_of_the_kill

Frankly, though, it's clear that Spencer WISHES that MS had Sony's talent when it comes to producing excellent first-party titles that people buy their hardware for.

This is exactly why they bought ZeniMax, because they hoped that with so many studios working in tandem under their belt, would be sure to produce something worthwhile for a change.

Re: Talking Point: Did Sony Lie About PS5?

art_of_the_kill

Misleading, definitely. Because it certainly seems that misleading their customers, or even just failing to share information, is something Sony has become comfortable with ever since Jim Ryan took the helm.

Also, where's the PushSquare article about Hulst possibly admitting that all PlayStation exclusives will eventually be on PC? That's a part of the interview that definitely deserves to be highlighted.

Re: PlayStation Studios Boss Suggests God of War Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7 Are Also Coming to PS4

art_of_the_kill

@truerbluer Took the words right out of my mouth.

Also...
"But we do value PC gamers, and we’ll continue to look at the right times to launch each game."

Effing wow. Cannot let that one go without comment. First off, why the actual hell do you "value" PC gamers? The ones who are distinctly not part of the PlayStation ecosystem? And why do you value them so much that you're willing to give your actual customers that shaft by saddling them with the inferior versions of your games? That you're willing to mislead them with branding of "PlayStation Exclusive" which you know won't be true in the future? Explain to me why PC gamers deserve ANYTHING from you. And if I recall correctly, the last time Hulst spoke to the press about PS4 games going to PC, he said it was all about showing PC gamers what they're missing out on. Apparently, they're not going to be missing out on anything, then, are they? If they had no reason to buy a PlayStation before, then they'll still have no reason to buy one.

Also, "each" game? As in, each game that you decide to port over, or literally each game that comes from PlayStation Studios so it won't have ANY permanent exclusives from here on out? Because if you're outright admitting here that the latter is what's going to happen, THEN YOU NEED TO ADMIT THAT STRAIGHT UP. STOP MISLEADING US. STOP LYING TO US. STOP USING "PLAYSTATION EXCLUSIVE." STOP USING "ONLY ON PLAYSTATION."

Re: Uncharted 4 Heading to PC, Investor Presentation Claims

art_of_the_kill

I have to wonder what makes people think Sony ought to do PS5 enhancements for the games that they're porting to PC. That implies Sony actually feels some semblance of commitment to us PlayStation users--the ones that they now have ZERO qualms about actively misleading into purchasing their systems. It's almost as if seeking new customers outside of the PlayStation ecosystem incentivizes Sony to be less committed to their existing userbase?

Besides, even if they do enhance the games on PS5, the PC version would still be superior, so why bother? The best version Sony's own game, the former PlayStation exclusive, is not available on PlayStation. That's apparently how it's going to be from here on out. And that's something that I, as a PlayStation fan, should be perfectly fine with because....why, exactly?

Re: Soapbox: Why I'm Not Expecting a PS5, PS4 Press Conference from PlayStation Next Month

art_of_the_kill

I'm not expecting it because being tight-lipped and uncommunicative has become Sony's MO lately. Let us not forget how slowly and infrequently they drip fed information about the PS5 last year up until its launch, and they even opened pre-orders before we knew what the UI looked like.

Not to mention all the Vita developers who were utterly blindsided by the news that Sony would be closing its storefront in a matter of months, because their aversion towards sharing crucial information extends to even devs as well.
