Re: Reaction: Spider-Man PS5 Debacle Shows Sony Is Out of Touch

doctommaso

@NEStalgia A well written and thought-out post, but I believe that as long as Sony continues to make great games and promote them effectively, they will be just fine (as will Nintendo); in fact, I encourage them to continue to use a model that reflects the value of their games as a high end product in the market. As an analogy, you can have Prada or you can have Gap. If Sony ends up being more "niche", as you put it, so be it.

Re: All PS5 First-Party Exclusives

@ViperXT Demon's Souls and Sackboy were both confirmed as launch titles by Sony. It's one heck of a launch with those plus Spidey and Astrobot. Godfall is one, too, but I'm not sold on that one by any means.

Re: Poll: Has Xbox's Bethesda Buyout Made You Reconsider a PS5 Purchase?

doctommaso

I am stunned that nearly 25% of readers here (a devoted Playstation fan site) would reconsider their PS5 purchase or even decide not to get a PS5, simply because Bethesda's new games, WHICH ARE YEARS AWAY, may not be on Playstation. Especially because Sony's first party games overall crush Bethesda's titles. I guess the XBox game plan is working...

Re: PS5 Pre-Orders: Where to Buy PlayStation 5

doctommaso

I"m really not happy about the way this went down. Pre-orders were supposed to be today (it's 2:18 AM where I am), not yesterday. Everything in the US was sold out (including Amazon) by 12:00 AM today or close to it. I did almost get lucky enough to get a Best Buy PS5 Digital Edition yesterday evening, but it sold out just as I was about to pay.

First world problem, but I really wanted a launch PS5 to play the DeSo remake. Now I'll probably be waiting months to get one (I'm not going to pay $1K on ebay for one). Good thing I have a large backlog!

Re: Talking Point: Did the PS5 Showcase Event Deliver?

doctommaso

@Friendly I understand that sentiment but there is a lot more gameplay there than you think (except Death Stranding ). I am not big on cutscenes, so I get you, but combat/gameplay is really good in Horizon, GoW, and Ghost. And sometimes a good story can add weight to the game. That said, I prefer something like DeSo or Bloodborne, with minimal story elements.

Re: The Witcher 3 Announced for PS5, Free Upgrade for PS4 Owners

doctommaso

@Zeke68 I never really understood that complaint. The fighting is a little wonky when you compare it to something as refined as the Souls games, but it’s pretty solid overall and is better than quite a few other games of similar nature. Could you specify what it is in particular you were having trouble with?

As for myself, I never played the DLC, so now I have an even better reason to finally get around to it. I’m pretty excited.

Re: New PS5 Advert Officially Revealed

doctommaso

I think it's a mediocre if not poor ad that should have focused on real gameplay, rather than CGI of a non-game. One thing in particular that bothered me was the voice was mixed far too low and was quite unclear in places, with several words difficult to make out. I'd say it's a C- at best.

Re: Prince of Persia Remake Hopes Reignited as Retail Listings Leak

doctommaso

@Boucho11 You think it's my problem, but it's actually yours — you just don't know it because more people in our society now accept it. But morality and behavior shouldn't merely be governed by what society currently dictates; there is a "right" thing to do. That aside, if you feel that kind of language is appropriate, I'm sorry but you simply have no class or consideration. Foul language offers nothing of value except to willingly come across as disgusting and rebellious. There are better and more descriptive ways to say things with words that are not offensive. It's one thing for people to use such language in speech for emphasis, which I also don't like, but it's another to show up in professional web pages and publications. Never mind the fact that kids read this site, too.

I know you won't see it my way, because you are not willing to honestly examine why such language or other crude behavior is inappropriate.

End of discussion — I won't be reading your responses from here on out.

Re: Mortal Shell - A Souls-Like for Hardened Veterans

doctommaso

@Bliquid That's a good point. I had to grind a lot in Souls games, although I couldn't do it in Sekiro, which made me actually push myself to get better. In fact, I've considered replaying the Souls games without trying to grind so much, since I feel like Sekiro showed me I'm a better gamer than I gave myself credit for. But there are too many games out there still on my backlog for me to do that.
