Re: Stunning PS5, PS4 Indie Kena: Bridge of Spirits Took a Month to Make Back Its Budget

Article clearly states: ā€œEmber Labs wanted to create a nostalgic platformer, the kind of thing that inspired the brother's animation aesthetic in the first place, which Michael describes thusly: ā€˜We pitched an experience that was full of charm and had that nostalgia edge to it. [PS2-era games] are definitely a big influence, we weren't seeing a bunch of those games being made, so it was like, it'd be fun to play a game like that, a kind of callback to that vibe, and the simplicity of it is part of the charm. So, for better or for worse, that's what we set out to make.ā€™"

Some people in the comments be like: Ugh. Felt like a PS2 game. Disgusting.

Iā€™m excited for Trek to Yomi! Sports games arenā€™t my thing personally, but I know theyā€™re popular, so thatā€™s good for the many who enjoy them. No idea if Jurassic Park is gonna be my thing, but I will try it one day, maybeā€¦idk.

Re: Soapbox: I No Longer Think Subscriptions Like PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Are the Future of Gaming

This was a great read, @get2sammyb! One thing you said really stuck with me: ā€œI am an enthusiast who spends as much of my free time as possible playing games. If even I canā€™t find value in a limitless library of software, then spare a thought for the more mainstream consumer.ā€ This is so spot on.

Edit: I have a question for you. What ifā€”hypotheticallyā€”the industry started putting out more games that had shorter (10-15hr) main storylines? Would that make the subscription service a more viable business model? Speaking for myself, I would love to see shorter games anyway. It seems games just keep getting longer and longer. I donā€™t necessarily think thatā€™s a good trend. Iā€™d much rather play a polished 10hr game than sink 40hrs into a game with a lot of bloat. Sometimes less is more.
