Re: PGW 2017: PlayStation Boss Comments on Controversial Last of Us 2 Trailer

I'm not big on The Last of Us, and as such don't really have interest in the sequel. That said, I think the trailer did its job well for the intended audience. The franchise is set in an extremely violent post-apocalyptic world, so I wouldn't expect any less from a trailer.

My one complaint is that it features no gameplay at all, and gameplay is what sells me on trailers. But again, I'm not the intended audience for story-driven games like this anyway.

@feral1975 Yeah, that's exactly the kind of template for a 3D platformer I don't much care about. For me it's all about exploration and cleverly-hidden secrets.

Re: Feature: The 20 Best RPGs on PS4

Witcher 3 is an amazing game, but I still think it's got nothing on Skyrim as the peak of western RPG design.

Also, shoutout to the wonderful little masterpiece that is Dragon Quest Builders.

@adf86 Well, opinions and everything, but for me R&C is absolutely not how you should do a 3D platformer. It has extremely linear worlds, intrusive voice acting (that gets repeated over and over if you happen to die), a super-genericc faux-grandiose orchestrated soundtrack and a terrible plotline that somehow ended up a focus of the gameplay. It controls well and looks incredible, yes, but it's about much more than that for me.

It's sad to me that most people seem to hold a game like Ratchet & Clank as a gold standard for 3D platformers these days, with its woefully misguided ambition of being a terrible Pixar movie in playable form.

If Yooka-Laylee is as "bad" as 90s platformers, it should be right up my alley.

Re: PSX 2016: You'll Play As Ellie in The Last of Us: Part II on PS4

@JaxonH Funny, I feel the exact opposite way. Uncharted 4 was fun for me for the worldbuilding and the constant sense of wonder, which made the gameplay appealing, linear as it is. Conversely, I couldn't finish TLOU, because for me the world felt drab and dull, and as such I felt no compelling reason to endure the endless stream of cover-based shooting segments. I guess it didn't help that zombies were already everywhere back when the game was released, and I'd always take Indiana Jones over zombies anyway.

Re: Poll: Are You Buying Final Fantasy XV?

ricklongo

Not in a hurry to get it, but get it I shall. I have a few stuff on my plate right now, and Dragon Quest Builders is probably my next PS4 game, but FFXV was one of the reasons why I got the console in the first place.

Re: Wii U Exclusive LEGO City Undercover Earns Its Badge on PS4

Amazing little gem. I'm happy more people will get to play it, as it's the best Lego game by far in my opinion.

That first sentence in the article, though... yeesh. You guys run a great site, and I really don't think you need to resort to that kind of childish clickbait to get more people to read the articles.

Re: Poll: Will You Be Buying a PS4 Pro?

ricklongo

Definitely not getting the Pro or the Slim. My original PS4 works just fine, and I'm not about to give my money to this kind of mid-generation initiative (which, to be honest, is something that really scares me).

Re: Video: You Really, Really Should Play Inside on PS4

@TimeforTravel "Some games are more about the eperience than acual gameplay. There kind of an interactive movie so to speak."

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. Historically, I just can't get into those games, though. And that even includes The Last of Us - I often found myself disappointed when cutscenes ended and gameplay started, and began thinking I'd just rather watch that story unfold in a movie instead of a game.

Re: Gamescom 2016: Yooka-Laylee Is a Nintendo 64 Game for Your PS4

ricklongo

@MadAussieBloke Like @rjejr said, It is quite different, though. Ratchet & Clank is more of a story-driven affair full of mid-action banter and with a heavy focus on gunplay (and honestly not my kind of thing). Banjo games are much, MUCH more open, allowing you to basically experience each world as a single huge adventure. If Ratchett is Uncharted, Banjo (and apparently Yooka-Laylee) is GTA, to put it in Sony-friendly terms.
