As someone who thinks the quest for realism sometimes really hinders actual fun gameplay, this seems like a title that could REALLY annoy me. On the other hand, I'm a sucker for medieval themes, so I'm torn.
I'm not big on The Last of Us, and as such don't really have interest in the sequel. That said, I think the trailer did its job well for the intended audience. The franchise is set in an extremely violent post-apocalyptic world, so I wouldn't expect any less from a trailer.
My one complaint is that it features no gameplay at all, and gameplay is what sells me on trailers. But again, I'm not the intended audience for story-driven games like this anyway.
@feral1975 Yeah, that's exactly the kind of template for a 3D platformer I don't much care about. For me it's all about exploration and cleverly-hidden secrets.
The reviews I've read made me fear that this is all style and little substance. It does look great, but the gameplay seems far too simplistic to me. I was never a fan of those platformers that rely heavily on mood instead of fluid gameplay, so this may sadly be a pass for me.
@adf86 Well, opinions and everything, but for me R&C is absolutely not how you should do a 3D platformer. It has extremely linear worlds, intrusive voice acting (that gets repeated over and over if you happen to die), a super-genericc faux-grandiose orchestrated soundtrack and a terrible plotline that somehow ended up a focus of the gameplay. It controls well and looks incredible, yes, but it's about much more than that for me.
It's sad to me that most people seem to hold a game like Ratchet & Clank as a gold standard for 3D platformers these days, with its woefully misguided ambition of being a terrible Pixar movie in playable form.
If Yooka-Laylee is as "bad" as 90s platformers, it should be right up my alley.
I'm super stoked for Horizon, but I'm frankly not feeling Death Stranding at all. The reliance on big-name actors is usually a good sign that a game is probably not for me, no matter how technically impressive it might be.
Sony's first part output is largely not my thing; I actually got my PS4 more for the third-party stuff like Witcher 3 and Dragon Quest, to be honest. Still, in terms of marketability, I can't say he's wrong.
@JaxonH Funny, I feel the exact opposite way. Uncharted 4 was fun for me for the worldbuilding and the constant sense of wonder, which made the gameplay appealing, linear as it is. Conversely, I couldn't finish TLOU, because for me the world felt drab and dull, and as such I felt no compelling reason to endure the endless stream of cover-based shooting segments. I guess it didn't help that zombies were already everywhere back when the game was released, and I'd always take Indiana Jones over zombies anyway.
Not in a hurry to get it, but get it I shall. I have a few stuff on my plate right now, and Dragon Quest Builders is probably my next PS4 game, but FFXV was one of the reasons why I got the console in the first place.
Amazing little gem. I'm happy more people will get to play it, as it's the best Lego game by far in my opinion.
That first sentence in the article, though... yeesh. You guys run a great site, and I really don't think you need to resort to that kind of childish clickbait to get more people to read the articles.
Definitely not getting the Pro or the Slim. My original PS4 works just fine, and I'm not about to give my money to this kind of mid-generation initiative (which, to be honest, is something that really scares me).
Not really feeling it, to be honest. I though the first game was cool, but got boring very fast, so I'll have to be conviced to spend money on this sequel.
@TimeforTravel "Some games are more about the eperience than acual gameplay. There kind of an interactive movie so to speak."
Yeah, that's what I was talking about. Historically, I just can't get into those games, though. And that even includes The Last of Us - I often found myself disappointed when cutscenes ended and gameplay started, and began thinking I'd just rather watch that story unfold in a movie instead of a game.
I really like the atmosphere in that footage, but now I'm worried it'll be underwhelming as far as gameplay goes. I'm absolutely not into those games that try to put ambience and/or storytelling over actual gameplay.
I rarely buy DLC for campaign based games, and certainly don't intend to buy any for FF15. Even if I did, I'd be quite wary of how they appear to be handling this. It has cash grab written all over it.
@MadAussieBloke Yeah... when it's unnecessary, which is not the case with Banjo, and hopefully not the case with Yooka. Myself, I'd say games trying to be movies should be a thing of the past, but sadly I'm well aware I'm in the minority.
@MadAussieBloke Like @rjejr said, It is quite different, though. Ratchet & Clank is more of a story-driven affair full of mid-action banter and with a heavy focus on gunplay (and honestly not my kind of thing). Banjo games are much, MUCH more open, allowing you to basically experience each world as a single huge adventure. If Ratchett is Uncharted, Banjo (and apparently Yooka-Laylee) is GTA, to put it in Sony-friendly terms.
Ratchet and Clank, sadly, has been my biggest disappointment in the PS4. I had never played the series before and was super sad to find out a movie wannabe instead of a Banjo-like open 3D platformer.
Oh well, yet more reason for my already unbelievable hype for Yooka-Laylee.

Re: Spyro the Dragon PS4 Announcement Looks Set to Hatch
The console war bait would be funny if the Switch hadn't gotten Super Mario Odyssey yet. As is, it's just kinda sad.
Re: Hands On: Ni no Kuni II Is a Pure Joy to Play on PS4
Haven't turned on my PS4 in a while, but this week that is definitely going to change. Can't wait to get my hands on this beauty.
Re: Hands On: Kingdom Come: Deliverance Marries the Open World of Skyrim With... The Sims?

Re: Dreams Is Going to Be a Real Awards Magnet
It's awesome that this game has gone from "what the hell is that" to this. I'm definitely intrigued.
Re: PSX 2017: Dreams Has a Full Digital Audio Workstation
I came here to applaud the tagline.

Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Trails of Cold Steel III and FIFA 18 Lead the Charge on PS4
@themcnoisy I believe that's the first week the Xbox One has managed to outsell BOTH Wii U and PS3 in Japan.
I wonder why Microsoft even bothers releasing on that market.
Re: Here's Your Very First Look at the Tomb Raider Movie
That neck tho
Re: The Masterpiece That Is Final Fantasy IX Is Coming to PS4
@ztpayne7 To be fair, EVERYTHING should be remade in the Octopath Traveler engine. Can you imagine Chrono Trigger looking like that? Man...
Re: BioMutant's Overly Talkative Narrator Can Be Toned Down
As someone who absolutely hates in-play narration / general banter, this is good to know.
Re: Japanese Sales Charts: Everybody's Golf Swings Straight to the Top on PS4
Everybody's Golf doing so well is a nice little surprise. I'll get it eventually on my PS4, when I'm not so swamped with recent purchases on Switch.
Re: SteamWorld Dig 2 Mines Its Way to PS4, Vita Later This Month
Image & Form has said this is a MUCH larger game than the original Dig. Given how good that one was, this can only be good news.

Re: Gamescom 2017: Open World PS4 RPG BioMutant Gets First Trailer
Those CG trailers with no gameplay scenes usually dampen my excitement instead of making me hyped. It's no different here.
Hopefully the gameplay looks fun.
Re: Review: Skylar & Plux: Adventure on Clover Island (PS4)
"There were multiple times where we wanted the characters to just shut their mouths and let us continue on with the level in peace."
So... Pretty much Ratchet & Clank, then? 😁

Re: Feature: The 20 Best RPGs on PS4
Witcher 3 is an amazing game, but I still think it's got nothing on Skyrim as the peak of western RPG design.
Also, shoutout to the wonderful little masterpiece that is Dragon Quest Builders.

Can't wait for this. Level-5 never fails to impress me.

Ouch. That's too bad, as this is one of my most anticipated PS4 releases.

Re: Uncharted 4's Insane Global Sales Secure Series' Juggernaut Status
Although linear, story-driven adventures aren't exactly my cup of tea, I thought Uncharted 4 was a pretty good one. Happy to see it succeed.

This is 100% my most anticipated PS4 game right now. Level-5 has to be one of my favorite game devs these days.

Uncharted definitely grew on me after 4, so I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Re: The King of Fighters XIV's Next PS4 Patch Improves Graphics
I actually enjoyed the graphics. Not as beautiful as SFV's, but a vastly superior game nonetheless in my opinion.

Re: Oh Dear, The Last Guardian Delayed into December on PS4
@adf86 Actually, you can. You can wait until you have a hard release date, with plenty of time for bug squashing, before announcing it.
Re: Oh Dear, The Last Guardian Delayed into December on PS4
I'll be busy in October thanks to Civilization VI, so I don't really mind. Hopefully it delivers when it's finally released.
Re: Poll: Will You Be Buying a PS4 Pro?
Definitely not getting the Pro or the Slim. My original PS4 works just fine, and I'm not about to give my money to this kind of mid-generation initiative (which, to be honest, is something that really scares me).
